We haven't eaten in a Perkins for a long time and was not sure what to expect. Our waitress, Victoria, was a sweetheart and awesome waitress. Her smile lite up our night after driving over 8 hours. We ended up here by chance as we exited I80 for gas and this restaurant was next door to the gas station. I had to ask the waitress where we were in IN. It had been a long day as we started out at 6 am in Northern WI (Hayward). We were warmly welcomed by the hosts and noticed the senior menu on the back, which we qualified for. My husband asked what the difference was between what was on the Senior menu and the regular menu. We were told "the price". So the Senior menu for a cheaper price was the same serving size as the regular menu. We both ordered the turkey and dressing meal. We do mostly home cooking try to eat as clean as we can so we're surprised that the food was not overly salty. We both added some pepper but no salted needed for our pallet. It was just right. As I was asking for a to go box for the rest of my dinner Victoria informed us it was free pie day. So, we had a cherry and banana cream pie to go. We had a little over 2 hrs to our hotel for the night so we're looking forward to dessert on arrival. We entered the restaurant a little before 7 pm and were the only ones there so that may have been a factor why our food came out so fast.. Usually always came here with my mom for food cravings while I was pregnant but just recently returned after a couple months. We are usually satisfied but noticed a whole new staff who aren't as nice as our usual waiter we had. We felt rushed by the guy who was our new waiter. He forgot about us about 3 times after we asked for our straws. We waited about 20 minutes for our straws. We got rushed to order and the food wasn't even as good as it usually is. Visited the South Bend Perkins location for the 1st time today. Arrived during the lunch hour, 12:10p or so, but was quickly seated by the friendly hostess. Adrianna took my drink order, and quickly returned with my unsweet iced tea. I ordered the Triple decker club with fries. It was a good sandwich. Fries were hot. MY go-to spot whenever I'm in town. They have a good-sized parking lot and enough parking spots, but on a busy day, then there can be limited spots to park, so you might have to wait until one opens up lol if you want to stay, but it might take a while. The friendly staff greets you when you walk in with delicious pies in the glass that calls out to you right away, so you can order something to take home or eat while you are there. I mean, it's a busy spot in town, so that the wait will happen no matter what. And even if you get seated, you will have to wait, but the food is worth it in the end, always good every single time I've been there. And they offer special which is nice. But on game days, expect it to be even crazier. read more

A great place for a good meal and a great piece of pie. I love the over 55 menu. It's a great deal. The Country Fried Steak meal (I had mine with corn and tots) is really good, as is the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Pie. Service was good, it wasn't crowded on a Sunday afternoon, and overall it was a good experience. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because they were having a problem with a staff member while I was there, which didn't directly affect me, but the drama was loud and the manager didn't handle it well (lots of yelling back and forth and eventually she asked the employee to leave, but it took awhile for her to decide to do that). Things like that should really be taken outside our into the back recesses of the restaurant immediately so they don't upset the customers. Will I come back? Yes, definitely. Just left the Perkins on 933 n., in South Bend, IN. Very poor service. After we were seated, nobody came to serve us or even offer to get drinks. Two other families came in and were seated, got their drinks and orders were taken. I ask a passing waitress to please have our waitress come to our table. The person were spoke to said our waitress would be right with us. Several more minutes went by and still no waitress. We got up to leave and I asked to speak to the manager. The manager, who was standing right there did not even acknowledge us. A waitress told him we wanted to speak to a manager, he still ignored us. Then when I called him, he said just a minute and the turned to a customer who just walked up. This was a bizarre and unappetising experience from start to finish, and not at all worth our time or money. We were "greeted" by someone dressed like a handyman or mechanic in a big sweat jacket, dragging long pants on the floor, with a huge ring of keys clanging around. Is he the janitor? Is the the manager? Couldn't tell you. He sat us at a table that wasn't fully wiped clean. When I mentioned the bits of mess he said we could move to another table - not that it would be cleaned, and it certainly never was. The waitress was nice, but nearly silent and never checked in. We had to try repeatedly to track her down if we ever needed anything, and this place was far from busy. The final nail in the coffin of our Perkins visit was when a different waitress brought out our long-awaited meal, served 2 of the 4 of us, and then flipped the tray over, throwing the rest of the food on the floor. We had to wait another 12-15 minutes to get our meals. Our other diners were already finished eating by the time we were served. The food was just okay. Certainly not worth the wait. Definitely not a place I will ever visit again. After spending a long time vying for the waitress's attention so that my Dad could order pie, we finally gave up. Tried to just get her attention so we could have our bill, and that took forever too. Parting gift from this place was once again interacting with the janitor/manager/host to pay the bill - which he wordlessly took from my hand. None of the customer service one might expect like "how was your meal?" or "I hope you enjoyed everything." Just had me pay with over-aggressive instructions on what to press on the screen even though I'm a young person who can follow the screen instructions myself. Went in this morning with my grandma, aunt, and mom. We had coffee which was good and we had a great server he was great! Buttt Emmy mom ordered pancakes and got blueberry pancakes and then they didn't taste like anything just flattop top grease. We ordered drinks my friend and I. No straws were provided we had to ask for those. No utensils when we sat down we had to ask for those. Out waitress was pleasant and polite but our waitress had the attitude that she didn't want to be there. We found out when we paid that our waitress had to do the whole dining room area and that she had to come in very early. I guess if I had to do all that with no help I would have a different outlook as well. I wish our waitress good luck. I ordered a short stack of pancakes which were nothing to ride home about for $5.99 for 3 pancakes. My friend ordered French toast. My friend did not receive any butter so I gave him 1 of mine. He wanted skinny bread but got the Texas toast size bread. He was also told there would be cinnamon on the French toast but there wasn't. My friend said the French toast had a bland taste to them. I had ice tea with 2 small lemon wedges. I have never been to a restaurant that charges for lemon. I was charged .50 cents for two small pieces. Since I drink a lot of unsweetened ice tea with lemon I won't be back. We should of gone to Bob Evans a few doors down the road. The Perkins in Elkhart is so much better. I guess the Manager or company does not care about there restaurant as they have left no comments to the reviews that customers have left. To me this shows that they do not care. This was my worst experience at any restaurant. I would not recommend anyone go to this Perkins.To start off with we didn't know who our server was due to 2/3 different people coming to our table. We weren't given silverware until after we got our food and asked for it. We ordered the strawberry crispers and I almost ate a piece of a wooden skewer because it was inside my crisper...waited 40 minutes for food and when we got our food it was cold. We talked to the manager to resolve the issues and all she did was give excuses as to why things were bad then asked to heat up our food. We decided to have them remake our food. It was warm when we got our food for the second time but the dishes were dirty, there was gunk on the outer edges of the plate that was not from them plating our food. Great, friendly atmosphere. It's a small old diner, but it's cozy. They had a great lunch trio deal for only 9.99. So I got a southwestern salad, loaded potato soup, and peanut butter pie. The portions were prefect and the food was good. Honestly better than I was expecting. I spolied my brother and he got a kids cheese burger and fries, lemonade, a chocolate shake (which we shared), and the "chocolate chipper" dessert. The shake was good, but I do think it could have been more chocolate-y. We were really pleased with our waitress and all the staff really, everyone was very nice. Although I did run out of water a few times (but to be fair, I drink a lot of water). The baby changing table in the rest room was cleaner then a lot of the restaurants I've been to lately and the strap to buckle babies in wasn't broken. I have not been a big fan of Perkins- but I had a coupon so I thought I would give them another try. I went for late lunch- I ordered the BBQ Bacon Cheese Burger (minus the BBQ sauce). I also got some mozzarella sticks and a Coke. The restaurant was dead empty at 4:30 PM. Cold air was blowing down from the ceiling vents and the room temperature was uncomfortable. Perkins seems to be trying to attract the next, younger generation of customers by playing some Sirius XM station clearly targeted to snot-nose Millennial's. Instantly forgettable music from "nobody" bands that was not attracting a younger crowd and is alienating to Perkins actual customers who seem to be mostly over 40. I was directly under a ceiling speaker and as I looked around for spaces without speakers so I could move and eat in peace there was unfortunately no where to escape the noise. My burger, fries and mozzarella sticks came out in about 20 minutes and the burger was actually quite good. I substituted A-1 Sauce for the BBQ and removed the offending lettuce, tomato and pickle (not in the mood for ANY veggies today!) and I enjoyed the burger. The bacon was a little more fatty than I would have liked. The mozzarella sticks seemed as though they might have sat in the window for a few minutes because they were warm, but not exactly hot, the way I like them. The waitress had an annoying high-pitched, high-rising-tone voice (like a bitchy, suburbanite, female Donald Duck), but she did her job. The whole deal cost me a little over $20 - kind of expensive for a burger, fries and mozz sticks. Perkins probably won't be a favorite of mine, but occasionally when I'm in the mood for something different I'll remember to stop in once in a while. ***************UPDATE 5-13-2015 ********************** I stopped in to Perkins again today and had the BLT. "Cat" was my waitress very nice and friendly! The BLT was good, but the bacon was too hard- beyond crispy, like "chew carefully or break your teeth" crunchy! This was the worst restaurant experience I've had in as long as I can remember. Started out good, we were seated right away. Then we waited and waited. Only a few people dining in. After 10 minutes we were able to flag one of the waitresses down. After much debate between the waitresses and 5 more minutes. The youngest and most inexperienced girl came over. Unfriendly, no apology for the wait, didn't know the menu, just took our order and left. Never to return. After 30 minutes with no interaction we left. She was extremely slow in getting us our food, even when we were 1 table of MAYBE 3 in the entire restaurant. She never asked what dressing I'd like on my salad, and then never mentioned it when it came. I had to ask. Then, when we paid, she shorted us $10 in change. We asked for it to be corrected and asked for change in 1 $10 bill and 2 $5 bills so we could leave a tip. She gave us a $20 bill. When we asked AGAIN, she made a "tsk" sound with her teeth, rolled her eyes and gave it to us. There was absolutely no need for that. Food - 2 stars - it's average diner food, and completely what you expect. What you DON'T expect is the service. Our waiter was a nice young man, but let me set the scene. There was one couple in here when we came in (family of 5). I've worked in restaurants before, but never one where five employees hung out at the front counter, one girl taking selfish, touching her mouth and eyes, and one being obnoxious, while two others swept. Then there's the back of the house. 5 people, 5 breakfasts. 40 minutes for 2 to get our food, 60 for the other 3 to get theirs. One couple came and left after waiting 45 minutes with no food. A 4 top has been here and waiting 45 minutes for their food. We're about to leave and they're still waiting. We were here about a month ago - same thing. Not busy, but horrible wait times. So this was their 2nd chance. Too bad. I loved this place when I was in college next door. Sad, but don't waste your time. read more

We had to ask for the table to be wiped off, no silverware, no coffee refills, our food was half cold as if it was under the heat lamp a long time. Right next to the toll road. It's okay food reminiscent of Denny's and IHOP... with the dankity dankness of a run down Denny's. They have an extensive dessert case of pies, muffins and cookies that entice. I was never able to try one though, cuz by the time we got up to leave I'd be so full. But their chicken soup was note worthy to my cousin and I who are both from the west coast.. land of the most wonderous food finds in all of the United States. If you don't agree then bite it bitch. I think for the most part we have all been to Perkins So it really comes down to rating experiences at different locations- and this location is great!! It's always super clean and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. Many people may not know but there is a purlins club where you get awesome coupons and a free meal on your birthday!! I've been to this location about 5 times and have had not one complaint. The late Nite Bites (apps) after 9pm are a really awesome deal! My daughter loves their fried pickles. My favorite is the chicken strips when they toss them in buffalo sauce! Yum!! read more
