This place is such a gem, and the baked goods are awesome. We live in Colorado but always try to stop when we're in town for danishes, cupcakes and whatever else looks good that day. The coffee, unfortunately, is ass. Bad enough that I genuinely hate docking an otherwise great local business two stars for it. The espresso tastes like someone emptied a bunch of used Keurig pods and cigarettes into pool water and boiled it for seven hours. Burnt, dirty and aggressively bitter, without any of the flavor that makes strong coffee actually good. And that's what makes it so frustrating. This is exactly the kind of independent bakery/cafe where I WANT to buy a great latte instead of going to Biggby or another chain. There's a huge opportunity here to be the legit coffee spot in town, and the rest of the place already deserves it. Please, for the love of God, fix the espresso. Your pastries deserve a better wingman. read more

This is a great meeting place to enjoy exceptional freshly banked pastries. There were so many I wanted to try and I chose the cinnamon roll. I enjoyed a cup of tea with mine. They also have coffee, including speciality coffees. The seating is very comfortable and has a coffee house feel. The entire establishment was exceptionally clean including the restroom. So in love with this cozy corner in this beautiful space. Dowagiac has needed something like this for a long time and it has arrived. I order a fruit smoothie and a pastry and sat for a few hours to work. It was so cozy and so comfortable. Overall quiet so I could get some work done, but also so "well with the soul". My drink was excellent. I love peach and so this peach mango smoothie did not disappoint. I'm so glad this place is open. I hope between the students at SMU and locals, it stays open for a long time. I could go on and on, but I'll try and keep my reasons for loving it brief: * I have yet to have an item from The Baker's Rhapsody that's less than absolutely delicious. This includes my favorites -- cherry and raspberry cream danishes -- as well as cupcakes, bear claws, you name it. And even though I make my own iced coffee and iced green tea at home, I will occasionally treat myself to theirs since it's so good. * The team there is so friendly and welcoming, and I say this as a person who is usually not adequately caffeinated when I visit their establishment. * They take COVID protocols very seriously. They clearly put a lot of thought into a plan to keep their patrons safe, and they stick to it. I've never visited when either staff or patrons were maskless, or doing the "I'm wearing a mask, but it's not covering my nose [so why bother?'" thing. I deeply appreciate this. * That said, the space itself is really cute and well-designed, and I can't wait to visit and linger with my coffee once we're on the other side of COVID and it's safe again! The staff and owner, Jordan, are beyond friendly and professional. The bakery items are all freshly baked and authentic, no Panera Bread bakery here. The danishes are to die for, my favorite being the raspberry cream. The Mocha drinks are made with home made chocolate ganache. My favorite drink is the white chocolate raspberry Rhapsody. It is a mocha that is just the perfect blend of espresso, white chocolate ganache, raspberry and steamed milk. It is a great spot to relax, read, meet people and have a great conversation. Apparently there a mini danishes that sell out first thing in the morning, would be interesting to try. Espresso drinks are dark-toast based, Giovanni beans.
