My review is so so hard to write. We just helped our deeply loved and sweetest dog across the Rainbow Bridge with the expert, kind and respectful help of Dr Perl. Our baby was in such pain and he was not going to get better. As hard as it is to write this as our loss and pain is fresh I must tell you Dr Perl was an angel to us and to our pet. All of us on the kitchen floor, he guided us through everything, honored us saying goodbye and thank you, and most of all carefully and with great respect led our boy home. What remains with us along with terrible grief and wonderful memories is knowing we loved our dog so much that we turned to Dr Perl. The fact that he comes to you takes so much stress off of your fur son or daughter and that peace of mind is priceless! But beyond taking care of your own, I wanted to share his character. I am helping a homeless gentleman who has a 12 year-old American bulldog and she was throwing up and I told the gentleman let me take her home with me so she can get some sleep and not be on the alert as she too is homeless. I brought my cat home from Friendship Animal Hospital (I would never recommend them) with a diagnosis of terminal kidney cancer. She appeared so sick when I brought her home, I called Dr. Solomon thinking it was time she was put to sleep. I had never had to do that before and it was extremely difficult. Dr. Solomon came to my home and checked her and said that she was not in pain and not ready to go. He gave me 1 more week with my precious baby. There are no words to express my gratitude for that. I'm not sure if other vets would do that. A week later when it was time, Dr. Solomon came when I needed him (same day notice) and he was patient, kind and gentle with my cat and I. He made the process less painful than if I did it at the vet clinic, with another vet. I'm sure about that. I would recommend him wholeheartedly and will be calling him again. read more

I used Dr. Perl's services for the first time today and it was a wonderful experience! He showed up on time, did a quick wellness check and vaccines and offered me helpful advice. Dr. Perl couldn't have made my dog passing away any worse. He arrived minutes after my dog had passed, holding a trash bag to take her body. He never said sorry. I felt her still breathing and I begged him to check her heart beat to ensure she was gone before he "bagged her up" and took her away. He slapped a stethoscope on her, said "de Nile is a River in Egypt".,.. word for word.... then threw the stethoscope at me and told me I could listen myself if I didn't believe him...... This was my baby. She had cancer and had passed literally minutes before he came into the room. He immediately asked for payment and stood there with a garbage bag like she was a piece of trash and he had somewhere he needed to be quickly. I've had nightmares thinking to myself "why would I let this person take my dog out that way"? I have never regretted anything more in my life. I wish I had someone come in and tell me they're sorry, then check everything and tell me she's gone and I could take my time, or atleast even just a minute or two to say goodbye. That is NOT Dr. Perl. It's taken me a full week to write this review. Please do not reach out to him if you care at all about your pet. I will never get over the last 30 minutes I got to see my precious baby. He made it a horrific, unforgivable disgusting experience. If I can save anyone from that, this review was worth it. The worst experience we ever had with a vet. 10 years later and I am still heartbroken about it. We contacted Dr. Solomon Perl, at the recommendation of the pet crematorium, when it was time to put our beloved cat to sleep. We had thought about taking her to our regular vet, but she hated going, and we didn't want her last hour to be scary and awful. We wanted it to at home, with us, in her favorite bed. So we contacted Dr. Perl to come to our home and put our baby out of her lung tumor trouble-breathing misery. We didn't like the way he sounded on the phone but it was a Friday on a holiday weekend and there was no one else. We had waited too long and we knew the weekend would be bad. So Dr. Perl it was. We made the appointment Thursday, and spent Friday filling her last day with as many favorite things as possible. He forgot about us. The appointment time came and went. After an hour, we called to ask where he was. He said he had forgotten and would be there in an hour. 2 hours past the appointment time, he arrived, rushed. If I had to describe his attitude, it was: let's get to it and get it done as quickly as possible, I have places to be. So he proceeded to give our baby a sedative. He wanted to test whether it had worked, so he pushed up her head with his hand and then let it flop down. I can't explain to you the emotions after seeing that. Rage, heartbreak, complete dumbfoundedness. I will never forget that moment. Of all the body parts, he could have used to test her sedation...it was just so disrespectful. Then he prepped her final injection and went to give it to her. He didn't prep us. He didn't say "This is it, do you want a moment?" Just sedate and kill as fast as possible. I realized what was happening, turned around tear-soaked and sobbing, and asked him to give us a minute. Actually, I think it came out more as a scream. He gave us the moment we needed. Then, he gave her the injection, asked if we wanted him to take the body, and left when we declined. Recently, I was talking to someone who had had a different vet come to her house to put her dog to sleep. She described the idyllic last day she and her husband gave her baby. Then, she described the vet. The vet had talked with them beforehand. She REMEMBERED THE APPOINTMENT. She described everything in the moment. She prepped them about what to expect from each injection. When she was ready to give the final injection, she said to my friend, "She's ready when you are." I was heartbroken and so envious comparing her experience to ours. That's the experience I wanted. I tried to give my friend comfort by telling her she gave her baby the best last day possible. I told her we had tried to, but she had actually achieved it. She then asked about the experience. After hearing the story, she asked, unprompted, "Was it Dr. Perl?" Apparently, she had interviewed him too, and didn't like the way he sounded. She almost had Dr. Perl for her baby's perfect last day. That's when I decided to write this review. I don't want anyone else to have the painful experience we did. We tried to do the best for our baby by putting her to sleep at home. We tried to do everything right. Instead, we got Dr. Perl. This will forever be a wound and a sore-spot for me. Forever a regret. 10 years later and it still hurts. read more

Dr. Perl euthanized our 18-year-old beloved cat today, a day after coming on short notice and diagnosing an inoperable tumor. Dr. Perl was realistic but gentle about our options, and made our cat as comfortable as possible until we had a chance to prepare ourselves for the inevitable.The end was as peaceful and non-traumatic as anyone could possibly hope. As our lovely Doberman, Holly, began to suffer from her spinal problem, I knew that the time was coming when we would have to ease her departure. Since she could no longer climb up into the car, the possibility of taking her to the vet was no longer an option, so I searched for a veterinarian who could come to the house and found Dr. Solomon Perl. When he first came to the house, I was a wreck. He could see that the idea of losing my loving dog was a heartbreaker for me. (I'm weeping as I write this.) He checked Holly out and informed me that she was not really in any great pain and still seemed interested in getting around and going outside, so he asked if I was really ready to go ahead now, or would I rather wait. That reprieve was greeted with gratitude and tears. I paid him for his long drive to NW DC and for his analysis of Holly's condition and (left unsaid) for his understanding of human nature - my human nature. A month or so later, I called him again, and again he came. Holly remembered him and wagged her stub of a tail. He sat with her on the floor as she leaned on him as he again looked her over and again gave me the option of waiting. Again, with tears and gratitude, I accepted the possibility of keeping Holly with me for another short time. This time, he declined payment and wished me well. A week later, however, Holly had deteriorated quite a bit. She had great difficulty standing up and staying up, would fall frequently, and needed my help coming down the stairs to my room on the ground floor. I knew the time was here. I called Dr. Perl and he came. He agreed that, yes, the time had come. With great tenderness he administered the appropriate drugs and Holly - my closest, most loving friend over the past four years - went to sleep. As much of a tragedy which that day was to me, I have to thank Dr. Perl for his expertise, his willingness to accommodate our needs, his compassion for my loving dog and for his understanding of the emotional state I was in. He was as much a doctor to me as to her. You might wonder why a grown man would develop such an attachment to a dog after only four years, but it would be clearer if you knew that I had been an infantry combat medic in 1968 during the Vietnam War. I had worked on a good many men, and many of them died and some of them were my friends. I left Vietnam with burdens of grief and guilt that were never reconciled. I was diagnosed with 100% service connected PTSD in 1997 and began a solitary life. Since I left Vietnam in 1969 I had closed myself off to closeness with any living being. It was not till this dog worked her way into my heart that I opened up to actually loving her. As she loved me. I'm convinced today that God put dogs on this earth to teach humans how to love. I came to understand that after I watched this friend die. That was December 15, 2016. I have not been able to face writing this review until now because thinking about the loss of such a faithful friend is very difficult. It brings back the memories of how we rescued a rowdy, three-year-old, semi-wild dog from the PG County dog pound and how we had got her used to us and how she developed into a dog who knew she was at HER home, with HER family, at last. read more
