Well, I unfortunately "landed" at Dr. Silva's office again for a tooth extraction, because another less experienced dentist fractured my tooth and could not complete the extraction. Let me emphasize that Dr. Silva is not only a dentist (DDS), but also a physician/surgeon, who attended medical school and completed a surgical residency (oral/maxillofacial) after attending dental school. As such, he not only works on complex dental issues (sometimes due to the failure of other, less trained dentists), but he also performs surgery on the jaw, sinuses and facial bones. What I'm getting at is this guy is expert at repairing most things above the neck. My "adventure" started with expertly-placed local anesthesia (think Novocaine) so that I felt absolutely no pain whatsoever and yet I was still able to feel most of my face, lips, etc. After about 1 hour of cutting, scraping, prying and suturing, the job was done. Post-op pain and swelling were minimal and almost completely resolved within 48 hours. Thank you Dr. Silva! Dr. Silvia's "supporting cast" is just as professional and competent as he is. They are all very sweet and nice as well and made my visit as non-traumatic as possible. Best dental surgeon in Monterey County. I been working with Dr Silva on restoring my whole left side by rebuilding it with implants. It took an over a year to accomplish this big project, I had a number of long and deep surgeries. I moved to a different state and unfortunately got an infection that affected my bone. Dr Silva and his staff took extra care and worked with me on scheduling and accommodating my flights back and forth to take care of the issue. this dentist seems to have a monopoly on oral surgery in Monterey. I've had better treatment by staff and dentists in other towns where I've had a wider choice. Silva has to fill up his workday with patients who pay before their dental procedures - he seems to do an okay job but his priority is PAYMENTS. shop around for mote integrity and courtesy - Silva can and should make improvements to their business and patient relations. Just because he can "see" you tomorrow doesn't make him the right oral surgeon. Have your credit cards ready at the front desk. read more

I moved to Monterey, California and I needed an oral surgeon, and was referred to Dr. Perry Silva by my dentist Dr. Wilson. Every step of the way was really difficult because I had work done in Mexico, and what was done was terrible. Dr. Silva was the only doctor that took my case on along with Dr. Jantsen, and he told me it would take "heroic efforts" on our sides to accomplish what needed to be done. RUN...Do not make the same mistake that I did. I had the absolute worst experience I've ever had with a dentist (and I've been to western dental). This Doctor does not have any patience. His bedside manner couldn't be worse. I went this morning to have a tooth pulled. This tooth has been in pain lately. Because I was expressing the fact that I was in pain, he continued to get upset with me. He threatened to stop working on me 3 times during the 30 minute procedure. He raised his voice asking if I thought he was a magician and finally he threw his gloves on the table and walked out. I literately felt like I was in a nightmare. I had a molar out, with a bone graft done expecting an implant before I move in a few months. I was assured I could get the implant before moving but today was told "take care of it wherever you move." During that procedure I was "put under" (paid for the sedation) but still awake bc I take a perscription that blocks opiate receptors. I take this medicine bc I have a spinal cord injury. After the procedure I continued to take my non opiate/synthetic opiate pain medicine for both my spinal condition and the surgery. Dr Silva also perscribed extra strength ibuprofen. I was out of commission/ in PAIN all weekend (friday-monday). A few months later, (today) I went to get my top wisdom teeth out and was extremely happy about the procedure. I actually was asleep this time. I had no idea he was not going to communicate with my pain management doctor or just give me a good non opiate pain reliever. An older blonde surgical assistant hurried me into a wheelchair and out the door before making sure I'd be perscribed something to help with the pain. That was very disappointing. I will try calling him if the pain is worse tomorrow and hopefully he will be a good doctor and make sure his patient is comfortable while recovering. read more

My daughter went to Dr. Silva, and he was very disrespectful towards her using remarks such as "she needs to man up" and "next time I'll just strap her ass down". My daughter recalls him using direct and aggressive behavior saying "this is not how I run my business". This is not how I would imagine a "professional", if that's what he is, would treat his clients or others within the liking. I be been to Dr Silva for three different procedures over a ten year period. In the earlier years, I would have agreed with some of the negative reviews about the front desk personnel. HOWEVER, he now has a fabulous front office team who are friendly and helpful and done a great job with all the COVID protocols. His dental assistants have always been very professional, efficient and comforting. And finally, Dr Silva is a fantastic oral surgeon! I see my other review was removed. I had trouble with his staff, they wouldn't let me talk to him when I got dry socket in a wisdom tooth he pulled. He was arrogant, and ended up not being thete6 for me when I complained. He did some good him surgery following an extraction, the fragments of bone were coming through gums deep down inside my jaw where he had pulled a difficult wisdom tooth. Dr. Silva is all medicine, no frilly office, no super stereo headsets, no HDTV. He does have an old-fashioned dental chair along with lots of medical and dental education coupled with experience. It was the worst experience ever. My teenage daughter, was having her wisdom teeth removed. After I was told the surgery was over I had to ask to see my daughter 30 minutes later. Dr Silva, was beyond annoyed that my daughter obviously had a bad reaction to the Anesthesia. She was crying, confused and asking for me And profusely apologizing because it was obvious Dr. Silva was very upset with her behavior. In front of me he told her how "immature" she was ! She needed a wheelchair to get to the car because she was so ill clearly having a bad reaction to the Anesthesia. Which I understand is quite common and not unusual. His behavior however was completely out of line and so upsetting to both of us. The next day when I confronted him he said her immaturity was "his observation " never Apologized. Dr. Silva has done excellent work for my daughter. He removed a tooth below the gum that was growing the wrong direction and she recovered without an issue. Dr. Silva extracted wisdom teeth on my 3 daughters in the same week. They had no complications and they really liked the staff. I'm a physician myself and found Dr. Silva to be competent. I had 2 teeth extracted and 2 implants over a period of more than a year. All my experiences with Dr. Silva and his staff was excellent. The office staff always greeted me in a friendly way when I arrived. I was ushered into the dental chair and saw Dr. Silva within a few minutes of each of my appointments. Every time I phoned during normal business hours, a person answered the phone (a pet peeve with some medical offices) and was able to handle my call immediately (to make or change an appointment or ask a question about home instructions or some unexpected outcome from my procedures). The technicians assisting Dr. Silva were professional and knowledgable, and worked smoothly, anticipating Dr. Silva's next actions on my teeth so they were always on top of the process. Best of all, Dr. Silva was excellent about explaining to me what was to be done and how he would go about it in advance of doing it. He answered all my questions thoroughly and was patient throughout. Then, while extracting or working with the implant, he explained what I was hearing or feeling and how long it would last. All the post-visit instructions were clear to me and the meds prescribed were clearly specified for how much, how long, and what to do if there's a problem. BILLING NIGHTMARE!!! We had 2 of our family members have procedures done here and the out of pocket expenses paid for up front the day of surgery. However, after many back and forth communications, they are still saying we owe them several hundred dollars. Even our insurance says we don't own them anything. They aren't honoring our in contract amount. On top of which, the first surgery was unsuccessful for one and we were charged for the redo. Will NEVER go here again! First of all - online location lists an old address - and I found myself in the wrong location for initial consultion Secondly - I only scheduled after doing my 'homework' and asking all the right questions as a consumer re: cost and payment and insurance coverage. Thirdly - I left without being asked to make a payment for consulation and was told I could be billed and make a payment (as discussed previously with Doreen). She was very clear and very kind and helpful on the phone; but apparently gave me the wrong information. I scheduled an extraction (with doubts, based on the fundamental office and equipment therein, as well as, what I felt, was a 'chilly, unprofessional staff" as basic as it gets. AND THEN, on the day of surgery, I arrived and was told to make the entire payment prior to extraction or I would not be seen. I said I could pay the amount due for services rendered and provide a check for the total balance post dated 13days away. I explained that I had been informed differently; and Doreen, who was sitting there, denied her information to me. Ana, asked the doctor if it was okay - and he stated that he required cash, 1/2 payment, or I would not be seen. The 'quarrel' was over 35.00 - I offered him full payment - ultimately; and was refused. I took two days off of work for this procedure. I told the front desk staff that I was glad to know in advance that Dr. Perry Silva had such low integrity, and was happy to leave without his service. read more

Dr.Silva and his staff were absolutely amazing! I have had some real bad childhood traumas with the dentist so I've stayed away. I had a very painful Root Canal for little over a week, and had to get the tooth removed. I was forced to see a dentist due to awful pain... I did some research and had herd that Dr.Silva was the one to go from. As I showed up his front desk staff was nothing but helpful and understanding of the pain I was In. I had an X-ray done and was told we could remove the tooth the next day if I wanted to. My heart dropped of fear but, I made the appointment anyway. The next day I could swear Dr.Silva was a tooth guru! I was in and out in less then 45 minutes, and was awake might I tell you all. He gave me Novocaine and his assistant made sure I was ready to have it removed. Dr.silva talked to me the whole time and made sure I was okay no pain and was even humming while he was removing the tooth. I could have not bin in a more relaxed state of mind and will definitely be coming back anytime I need anything done! 10/10 read more

Never got to see Dr. However , staff is rude. From the moment you walk in , you're bothering them. No matter what your reasons to talk to them , you're interrupting their day. After having an appointment for a week ,then sitting in the waiting room for 45 minutes, the staff came out to tell me that the Dr has decided to no longer take my Aetna insurance. When I asked when he decide this I was told " he turned in the paper work to no longer work with them or whatever like today or a few days ago or something " . " So yeah ". When I voiced my irritation because I had rearranged schedules to get this time off and a courtesy call would have been nice. I was told " well he isn't taking the insurance any more so I don't know what else you want me to do or say ?" How about suggest a dentist you know of that takes the insurance ?
