He charges ridiculous amount of money ($30 a pair of heel rubber replacement) and didn't even bother to shine my shoes. It took almost 2 weeks to get my shoes back and because he lives so far away I can't even argue the price/quality of the quality of the repair. I went to pick up my boot on January 19th, 2011 after leaving it with the owner of the shop, George Perry, on December 10, 2011. I left it for a simple zipper replacement. When I went to pick them up, they could not find my boots, the ladies behind the counter were aggressively throwing shoes around trying to find my boot, raising their voices at me because I didn't have my ticket (which makes no sense at all because the ticket only has the dates and my name, which I gave them, and which, by the way, I do have in my possession), and saying that they "didn't have time for this". During this nightmarish customer experience, I asked the owner, George, what would happen if he could not find my boot. He said in front of store of customers and employees, that he would "replace" them if he could not find them. That evening he called me and told me that he thought he THREW THE BOOT AWAY. That he left it in a bag to dry out and that it must have gotten thrown out. He told me to buy the boots and that he would reimburse me. I have this recorded on a voicemail. I called him back the next day, January 20th, 2011, and told him that I could not afford to purchase them at this time and asked him if he could do it for me and have them shipped to me. He agreed. At no time during our discussions was price discussed. He offered to replace them. Period. These boots are only made in small quantities for the winter season and I was only able to find one place online that had them. They retail for $149 and were on sale for $119 plus tax, so I called him on Monday, January 24, 2011, and sent him the link to purchase. He told me that he was "busy" and could not get around to it until Wednesday. By Wednesday this online store had sold out, so I sent him another link on January 27th, 2011, to an online store that I found had the boots in stock for $149, retail price. I did not hear back from him. So I wrote him an email on January 28th, 2011, to please send me the receipt for the purchase so that I may have it for my records, to which he replied, "I was happy to replace your boots if the price was reasonable. I thought $120 was more then fair to compensate for your boots. The boots were not new, the zipper was broken so to ask us to replace your boots for $150 plus shipping is very unreasonable. We will be sending you a check for $120 to the address you listed below which, is more then fair considering how old the boots were and in the condition that they were in. Thank you and have a wonderful day, Perry's" So I called the owner, George Perry, following his email response, and informed him that he was now going back on his word of replacing my boots, a pair of boots that had been worn for snowfall only for a period of 3.5 months MAX. So now I, the *customer*, am being penalized for their mistake. His unprofessionalism and failure to take responsibility for his actions is truly appalling, and it's hard to believe that he would quibble over $30. How am I to *replace* a $149 boot with $120 due to his ineptitude???? As it stands, I am now contacting the Better Business Bureau to seek resolution, to which George Perry replied,"go ahead". So he has not replaced the boots nor has he given me the proper amount for me to replace them. I brought my favorite pair of dress shoes here to be resoled before my wedding. The new sole looks excellent, and the craftsmanship and detail look good. I don't know how the price compares to other cobblers ($65 for new leather sole and heel piece), but it seemed reasonable to give my shoes a new life. Shoes were completed when promised. The staff seemed really busy and a bit short in conversation, so I didn't necessarily get a warm, welcoming feel. But for what I needed, they got the job done. read more

Great folks, Perry's has been a family run business for many years. Their prices are fair, and their quality is very good. They have breathed new life into many pairs of shoes and boots of mine over the years. Oh, and they do luggage repair as well. They are now at their new location at 1711 15th St. They are between Canyon and Arapahoe on the west side of 15th, across from the Animal Hospital, almost to Arapahoe. Great shop. I've been coming here since college and they do exceptional work on just about anything I've brought them - shoes, belts, leather goods, etc... even stitching shoulder straps on some bags I own. They also carry a great selection of boots (Frye) and other great shoes. If you ever need to waterproof some specialty leather good or have a question, they're a great resource to ask before taking the plunge. They even fixed some classic Timberlands I owned for 20 years that got too close to a heat-source and shrunk! I thought they were goners but Perry's brought them back to life! read more

Terrible experiences. First I brought in a pair of shoes that needed the zipper replaced and rather than replace it they glued the problem spot and charged me the price of a new zipper! I decided to give them another chance and I brought in another pair of boots that needed a zipper replaced and they did a mediocre job, the zipper was unevenly stitched in and it was difficult to zip and unzip. When I brought the boots into another shoe repair store they informed me that Perry's did a lazy job in replacing the zipper. The only thing that Perry's does and okay job of is shining shoes but they are overpriced at best! read more

First of all the prices here cannot be beat, I have gone to hundreds of different shops, and I can tell you that when i shop in Boulder, this is the #1 spot. I so hate to write this but I have had a nightmare of a time with perry's. Last October I sent my Frye boots to them for repair and it is the end of Dec and I still don't have my them. First they were lost in their shop and though they had called me ealier with a question, claimed not to have them. Then when they were found I purchased insurance to have them sent back and this was about a month ago. Not a fan. I went here because I thought my old shoe repair was gone & the reviews here weren't too bad. Mistake. Go to the shoe repair off Arapahoe & 28th: they took beat up boots of mine & had them looking brand new. I took a pair of old sandals here to get scuffs repaired. The counter woman asked the unhappy man (owner?) how much for the repair & he said $17. I paid $17 in cash, got a pick-up tab, and was told to come back in a "week from tomorrow." I was thinking the entire time, "This is odd to pay when dropping off..." I didn't follow my gut, nor did I get a formal receipt: another mistake. I failed to look at the pick-up tab and drove back 8 days later, thinking the entire time that I didn't get a receipt and I bet I caused myself big problems. The man said he had tomorrow down on the tab. Sure enough: the tab said the following day. I told him I don't live in the area and asked if I could come back in a week or so and he shortly responded, "Sure, but they'll be ready tomorrow." My boyfriend offered to pick the sandals up 3 days later. He went in and the man said they weren't ready because I said I'd be back next week. Then he said he'd stay late to fix them, so come back in 15 minutes. I warned my boyfriend about the payment and, as feared, the man said that he hadn't calculated the price yet, so of course I had not paid. My boyfriend said the woman I had paid initially was not there. And the price was: an unsurprising $17 AGAIN. The final product had the white scuffs covered, as they said would be done, but the nicks and dings were still present. Also, because of the fast work, the man left behind stain on the jewels that were present, instead of just on the shoe. When I first went in I had asked him if he could make a strap on one shoe, that I had reattached with tread, look better. He said he'd just do the same thing I had done, so I didn't even bother to get that done and instead came home and super-glued it. In summary, $34 later, my sandals are slightly improved, but I am much frustrated. I wish I had just bought $2 stain, saved some gas, and done the job myself. In the man's defense, my problems were probably all due to his female desk clerk & not to him. Still: a drag. read more

Had some custom work done at the shop and the owner was very dishonest in pricing as we had plenty of conversations about the boots custom changes to allow him to give me updated quotes and the day we go in to pay he raises the price an additional amount. The other fine point is that he videos everyone that comes into the store with a camera on a tripod (thought that was illegal but might not be). I had these boots I wanted to see how he did as I have about five other projects that I needed done and the work was just so so. This place is awesome. I came here a little over a month ago with an absurd request, and Perry's fulfilled my request beyond my expectations! I came to Boulder for a wedding and only had 1 pair of shoes that matched my dress, but they were in need of repair. I brought them on my trip hoping to visit a cobbler. We didn't have a car (or much time), so I ended up walking to the cobbler the day before the wedding. By the time I got there it was ~2 hours before close, and we had to leave very early in the morning for the wedding. I had no expectations that they would be able to repair my shoes in less than 2 hours -- turns out I was wrong! They ended up repairing my original request (new rubber on the heel) AND fixing the soles of the shoes -- which they pointed out when I arrived but I didn't think would be possible in time -- AND gave them a quick shine-- all in less than 2 hours and for less than $50!! They looked like new shoes! The shoes are Frye, and if you know Frye shoes they are well worth the investment to keep in shape... Highly recommend and can't thank them enough for saving me from having to wear broken shoes at a wedding, where we were standing and dancing all day and night! Thank you! read more

I got a pair cross-country boots mended here, and they did a really nice job. (Banged down a metal bracket, and replaced a metal ring that had fallen off.) Affordable, too! I brought my beloved boots to Perry's when the side zipper simply stopped zipping. They quoted me somewhere in the $40 range to have a new zipper put in and stick up some of the teeth on the other half of the pair. I came back a week later to find my total bill was under $20! They were able to salvage the original zipper and save me 20 bucks. A year later the zipper is still working great, I have never had any other quote from anywhere be reduced by 50% and I have brought many other shoes to Perry's, always with stellar results. Brought in roller blades, which is bizarre in itself, that were pretty old and giving me retrocalcaneal bursitis. This store fixed my skates using a shoe press and got them back to me promptly. The store employees and manager/owner were extremely professional. My skates aren't hurting me anymore and the extra space they gave me the heel was exactly what I needed. Thank you guys. I had 4 pairs of boots and 2 pairs of shoes repaired here. Some needed new soles to protect them from the elements, some needed the heels rebuilt, and some needed to be dyed, buffed, and sewn. I even took a belt here to get resewn where it had begun to unravel. The job they did was perfect and all for less than the cost of buying a new pair. Worth every penny. I have at least 2 more seasons for each of my gorgeous boots. read more

Great service. I've been taking my hiking and mountaineering boots here for four years. Four soles on the hiking boots two on my mountaineering boots. I'm a tree climber, hiker, mountaineer and I beat up my footwear. I look for leather boots with good rands. Perry's has resoled, fixed stitching, repaired rands, and even replaced rands on my boots. I drive from Denver for their services once to twice a year. They do offer mail service. One last thing they are recommended by La Sportiva the boot company. read more

I've actually never written a Yelp review, but I had such a horrible experience here that I wanted to save someone else the hassle. I brought in beautiful sandals for repair. When I went to retrieve them, the job was poorly done. I pointed out that leather was hanging off the sole and asked for them to be properly fixed. Returning to the store a second time, again, the repair was shoddy, the leather unglued, and the manager hostile --- demanding (overpriced!) payment for unwearable shoes I must now bring elsewhere to be cared for. I like supporting the local businesses, but these guys tend to lose shoes every once in a while, and can be kind of short with you in conversation. I called several times upon the pick up date and was told they couldn't find my shoes, didn't know what they had done/were supposed to do to them, and seemed annoyed that I wanted to know if they were ready. I suppose they do a good job, but in my opinion small businesses need to be extra competitive if they want to stay open in Boulder, and that means keeping a tight ship and being friendly to customers. DO NOT GO HERE! I brought them a brand new pair of yellow shoes - worn once and they ruined them. I get them back sprinkled with stains - and the leather flower on the front covered in brown stain. They refused to take any responsibility and had the gall to say "I don't know what to say". Faithfully at the end of every winter, I take my Frye boots to Perry's, which I bought there, for new heels (I wear them a lot), a cleaning, and a polish and have done so for years. I also bring my husband's shoes there and my Birkenstocks. Never have I paid for anything upfront and often leave with a product to be paid for when I return to get my shoes or boots. Their work is good and has prolonged the life of all my shoes! I followed them from their Walnut location and will continue to patronize this superior local business. read more

This place is expensive for what should be cheap repairs. I cut a strap off my shoes and needed 4" of straight stitching, outside edge, to close the seam. The estimate (I thought) was for $11 total, but Perry meant for each shoe?? I would have said no to $22 and just glued the seams. If Perry's took more than 5-10 min a seam, this'd be really slow. I know they need to cover expenses, but they shouldn't overcharge small repairs to do it. read more
