To begin I like to thank Assaf, Dafne and Daniel for helping me through 2 tough cases. Assaf won my PUA for me years ago and this time Daniel helped me won a voluntary quit case (one of the harder ones) and it was such a great victory that I received my letter the night of the hearing instead of weeks later. I work as a claims examiner and I deal with attorneys on a daily basis and it is fair to say we are arch-enemies. I will like to take this opportunity to address some of the unreasonable comments here. The job of the attorney is generally to write propositions, represent/respond to argumentations, and legal counseling. People don't understand that in different field of cases the amount of these duties will vary. In EDD cases the attorneys are here to send your appeal, prepare you for examination from judge/possibly employer (rare), and give you the best legal counsel to respond to the questionings. YOUR job is to listen, and do what the attorney tells you to do.. In EDD cases the Judge really only cares about testimonies unless in certain cases where cross-exam or more rigorous defensive tactics are required. So please don't hire attorneys and expect to just sit through the hearings, because you are expected to testify and nothing is more powerful than evidence which is mostly your testimony. With that said PSLF did just that Daniel's pre-hearing counselings were professional, thorough, and effective. I am naturally a good debater as well that did help, however the legal insights these guys provides you are unparalleled. You won't find better attorneys to rest your tough cases with. read more

I had an incredibly frustrating and upsetting experience with Pershing Square Law Firm, and I feel strongly that people need to be aware before choosing this office. My case was not just randomly canceled -- it was closed after a completely unacceptable interaction with someone on their team, Alexis. I called with simple, reasonable questions about my appeal date and the call I was supposed to attend. Instead of getting clear answers or basic support, the conversation turned argumentative. Alexis spoke to me in a disrespectful and demeaning way, and the situation escalated when she continued to argue rather than help. I did raise my voice in response -- but only after being spoken to in a way no client should ever be spoken to. What is most concerning is that this interaction ultimately led to my case being closed, without giving me a fair opportunity to resolve the issue or even properly communicate with my attorney. That is completely unacceptable. When you hire a law firm, you expect access to your legal representation -- not to be cut off because of a conflict with front office staff. I also made it clear during this interaction that I am pregnant and already dealing with a lot of stress. Instead of showing even a minimal level of understanding or professionalism, the tone and treatment remained cold, dismissive, and confrontational. My experience with Allison was not any better, and overall the environment felt disorganized and lacking in accountability. The way clients are spoken to and handled here is not okay, especially when people are already going through difficult situations and relying on this firm for help. What's especially disappointing is that I had a very different experience with this firm back in 2020. Something has clearly changed, and not for the better. I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and I strongly encourage others to read reviews carefully and consider other options. Based on my experience, I would not trust this firm to handle a case with the professionalism, respect, and communication that clients deserve. Disgusting and unacceptable behavior. He was eating while on the phone with me :| Second was when on the phone with another associate they informed me that if I didn't win I wouldn't have to pay. I want to be straight here. I am an attorney and take reviews seriously. I called Pershing to do an appeal of my daughter's denial of the inception date for her SDI claim. She has been very ill and it was extremely important to me get this appeal right. I provided medical reports which I thought addressed the issue. I was told it was a good case for appeal. I paid the deposit. I would like to tell you what their brief/appeal looked like, but I was never sent a copy. The result was adverse. I would like to give you the reasons for the board upholding the judge's decision, but I was never sent the denial. After the denial I was sent the rest of the bill. I would not recommend this law group at all. I clearly explained my situation, yet they made unrealistic promises and made it seem like my case would be simple to win. The billing representative told me, "If we don't win, you'll receive a refund." Unfortunately, that turned out to be false. The attorney assigned to my case did not prepare me for the hearing in any way. I called the office once a day for updates, and each time I was told, "He's going to call you," but I never received a call back. They changed my method of payment to check and had it mailed to their address and took my monthly benefits that they had no hand in obtaining and stated "since you are receiving payment the matter has been resolved". What they were suppose to recover is still in limbo and they are trying to collect their fee upfront. This is not what they advertise, I had a stroke and they've taken my monthly living allowance. This does not demonstrate a fiduciary responsibility, it is downright disgusting to take someone's living expense money whom cannot even see right do to illness . I spoke with a man representing the firm and took him at his word and signed a contract. Now I have to resort to legal measures so I can make my house payment and monthly bills which I am sure will all be late because of what this firm did. Worst Law firm! They told me I had a 99% chance of winning and if I they lost my case I would get a refund. On the contract they put they would prepare me for my hearing and help get evidence for my case. I would call to get an attorney on the line and they always told me someone would get back to me. This was a terrible, agonizing, stressful, and high anxiety experience These people are uncompromising when it comes to payment. As a result I do not have representation for a big hearing with the EDD that has already been extended. Due to some glitch or whatever it is that has flagged this false statement as a result I have not been paid on my EDD claim since last year. This has put me so far behind to the point where i was nearly evicted out of my apartment. I have been out of work and working with temp agencies with sporadic work of which I could not do a full payment plan before the cut off date the way I hoped for. When I tried explaining the situation the day before my hearing and how I was waiting until Friday my payday in full, Avital was very rude, short, and curt with me. No compassion at all. I explained and pleaded with her to understand to which I asked to speak with a super visor. She was just gate keeping. I had a check deposited into my account today 7/25/23 but a standard 24 hour hold was placed. I just can't believe they couldn't wait not even a mere 24 hours for the funds to clear from my bank due to a 24 hour hold that would be placed that's beyond my control. My remaining balance was $750 and I paid an initial $250 retainer up front. They would have received over half today $500 and the balance of $250. I would have given them my bank info for direct debit, which I was more than happy to do. There has been barley any communication from the beginning with these people which has lead to me having to have had the case rescheduled the first time. Just no compassion here and they won't even refund my retainer. No representation at all on a matter I Truly needed help on because this EDD packet is huge alleging false statements that's overwhelming so I was hoping for some help here from the experts. I begged Daphine the billing supervisor to help me to which callously said no. Whats troubled me even more was that they were saying that my case was still trying to be assigned a lawyer so now it's leading me to believe that even if I paid them, I would've gotten a rush representation for a very important matter. I submitted all documents to them way before the deadline so I guess no one reviewed them. I guess no one sent those documents to the EDD before the deadline either. I understand this is a business but this is about as cut throat and greedy as it gets. I'm really worried what the outcome will be now. I don't recommend using them at all. It has been 2 hours, and I have tried to call them back with no success, and they are not calling me back. Update; Judge denied appeal based on the way the first missed hearing was handled. Had I been told that this was a possibility I'd have done everything in my power to make the first hearing, despite being 8 hours out of time zone and in remote area. But the representative I spoke to said we could reschedule and didn't spell out the possible consequences of that. That said, take a look at the other negative reviews & be cautious. It's true that you will likely only have two phone calls: one to take your payment and one a day before the hearing that will be rather rushed and impersonal. For anyone considering this firm, please do your research. Within the first 2 phone calls it was absolutely apparent that this was a 2 tier call center set up with an opener and a closer. Their fees are clearly based on a portion of what you're owed, which is why they ask your weekly benefit amounts, filing date, etc.... they are gauging how much they can squeeze out of you and taking advantage of you in a time of need. When I laughed at the cost there was an imediate "oh let me talk to my team to see if we can reduce that" comment. This is a WHAT CAN WE TAKE THEM FOR based billing system, just like criminal tax resolution firms. After imediately telling them I was not interested in their services I have received THREE more sales calls, and every time I tell them to STOP calling me. This last time when I told them would sue for harassment, they just hung up. The services they "provide" are absolutely accomplishable on your own accord. read more

There are things that you should know. * They use a phone app to communicate. All documents you need to read will be in this app, and all documents they need you to give them must be sent through this app. From inspection it seems as if they're hired someone to develop it for them. * This app is impossible to install on an Android device as of the date that I write this review. The Android app store informs you that 'This application is out of date and cannot be installed on your device' * Every time a document is filed with the state of California, you'll get an email letting you know where to find it. It's in that app. There is no other way to view any time sensitive information listed in that email except..... * There -is- a second way to view and upload documents. It's a web site. It's broken. Every time I've talked to a representative they've told me in detail the way that it doesn't work and how to work around its problems, "hopefully". The email I mention doesn't tell you that you can't use the app on an Android phone, that there is a website that partially works, or that there are problems with that website as well. * If you need to backdate your claim and have been denied , they'll take your case on a 'contingency basis', meaning they only get paid if you get a positive outcome on your appeal. --- this is the part where it gets potentially unethical instead of incompetent. --- * If you are collecting benefits during this process, they require that you put the amount that they would collect if you win in something similar to escrow. They win, they get the money. They lose, it comes back to you. * There's a decent chance that they might -entirely forget- to take this money up front or tell you that you even need to give it. I was told about this not less than five weeks after I retained them, after I called to clarify their technology problems. They gave me a do-it-or-good-luck-with-your-case option. * Emphasis on Good Luck Now Go Away. Basically, they do legal soft ball work for a high fee. That's okay if you need it, but they're also -very- sloppy in the details. Tech doesn't work. Terms of the agreement may be revised mid course. And if you complain, thanks and have a nice day. I have been waiting to write this review for almost a year now. I owed the EDD almost $10,000... to say I was mortified is an understatement. I was working during the pandemic at a grocery store and had lost my job in the beauty industry due to covid shutting everything down. Keep in mind, I've always had both jobs. So in my mind, unemployment would help me with me losing my second job and I could pick up more hours at the grocery store. Welp, I was wrong??? I claimed every week how much I made and then the edd tried to take it all back. I had just lost my job this past year, was homeless for 3 weeks couch surfing, had my car stolen twice (paid everything out of pocket due to my insurance) I was going through a spiral freaking out on how much money I could be losing and go into extreme debt. Thank god I found this place because they saved my life!!!! I just got notice that I am innocent due to my grocery store job not claiming the correct amount that I earned... WT***!!!!! Also, because I claimed my earnings honestly and truthfully, I was able to get back 7,000 for my time being unemployed (they took it away the second time I was unemployed and left me high and dry when I needed it the most) on top of that, I DONT HAVE TO PAY THE $10,000!!!!! I am writing a review on behalf of my husband. He filed a hearing on his own, but was denied by a first judge. The letter came from EDD stated they over payed him and they want him to pay back amount of 15K. This case was more of a fraudulent claims. Someone had stolen his identity to claim EDD while he was still working eight hours from his previous job . We ended up searching a Law Firm that handle this type of situation. We found Pershing Law Firm which the office is located in LA . Read their testimonies and also read reviews as well from good to a bad wrote by other people. We decided to proceed with Pershing Square Law Firm. I believed we spoke with Avital . She gathered information on what went wrong with my husband's EDD. She reassured us that we are in the right place and we have high hope to win this case. Aviital, also guided on how to use the App given from the Law Firm as a communication back and forth with documents that is being needed. This is how it communicates by their app. My husband's fee to hire an attorney was $2000. He had a choice to do installation or pay in full. My husband took the installation payments and proceeded with the case . Whatever mail was sent by EDD law firm will also get their copies along with the hearing date with the judge . At this point it was a long process that we all had to wait estimation time was 5 months or 6 months hearing date . Finally, my husband received a letter from the hearing and so my husband was scheduled to do a phone prep meeting stated they will call after 4pm. This did not happen instead the attorney called at 8am which was during his work time . That being said he missed his prep session. My husband and I kept reaching out to his attorney which is Megan Lazar who took his case . We left messages for a call back , but there was no response until one day before the hearing. Megan Lazar called and proceeded prep meeting, she made sure my husband gave the correct statement on what happened with his job and the claims. She went over everything with him and sounded aggressive as well. How do I know? Because my husband had her on speaker . I am a good listener. Finally, the hearing day with the Judge has come . Megan Lazar called 30min before the meeting to go over again with him. After the hearing with the judge , Megan called my husband immediately and told him he did a great job and this is what she love to hear as if she have a high hopes that the judge will dismiss the overpayment. Two days later my husband got a mail which was a decision made by the judge . We did not understand what was said on that paper whether it was dismissed or we had to fight again . Then Megan called right away after we both read it and look confused . Megan went over and said "you won" ! The only reason why it was given a 4 star rating instead of 5 star was because lack of calling back and it made us worried if we should reschedule the hearing date and we lost communication from not getting a response back right after we made several attempts. If anyone that is going through this , please read the reviews and testimonies along going on the website to see who are these attorneys you are hiring. ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK - I contacted Pershing Square Law for an EDD overpayment case. I spoke with Client Rep Avital who AT FIRST was very nice, she explained the process and connected me directly to attorney Charlie. He seemed like he was in a hurry, rushing to his car. He was nice enough but didn't seem like he was listening well. He wouldn't let me finish my sentences and quickly decided my case was once he would take. I had other important points to share regarding the facts but he was ready to get off the phone. He transferred me back to Avital and she gave me the cost ($1,500) and information. She said the lawyer would be assigned before my hearing date and they would prep me the week before. It seemed like there were some red flags so I took some time to consider other law firms and make comparisons. After the phone call I chose to look up reviews of past clients, I noticed the negative similarities to my initial experience. This gave me pause and concern. I wanted to give Pershing Law a chance to explain why so many reviews in the last three months were outlining scam behavior & unethical experiences. I chose to call them and give them the benefit of the doubt. I spoke to Avital hoping to gain some clarity and she was immediately defensive, rudely speaking over me. I tried to share some of the details and ask some questions but she would not allow it. Her response was, general and scripted, "All successful businesses have bad reviews and its normal. I have nothing else to say." She said this sentence over and over. Rather than engage in her unprofessional behavior and tone, I respectfully chose not to retain them. Megan L is an excellent attorney who offers great advice on how to prepare for the hearing in terms of the questions asked during the administrative hearing with the EDD UI APPEALS BOARD . She did take the time to review the materials submitted via the portal which is hands down very convenient and user-friendly . I had my administrative hearing with the UIAB back in October of last year and at the hearing , I had to ask for a continuance as I absolutely needed representation with my former employer appearing at the hearing . Looking online for an unemployment attorney on contingency led me to this firm. We reached out and they got back to me in about four days letting me know a paralegal would be in touch. Well, she got in touch and we spoke about my situation and she sent me an online sign-off so they could obtain my records from the EED. I felt good - I've been unfairly denied unemployment benefits and at this point it's as much about principle as it is about attempting to get some of the benefits I was due. During that conversation, I was informed it could take about two weeks to obtain the records.... That was the last I ever heard from them. Weeks later I haven't heard back from them... I've left two messages, no one returns the call. This led me to look them up on Yelp and the BBB, and let me tell you folks, I dodged a bullet. The cases they take are big money cases - that "take a case on contingency" thing? Looking at other reviews here, I think that it's fair to call it a bait and switch given how many people in my situation have posted here.... All those posts about paying money upfront and not getting the services paid for? Perhaps if you have some sort of "Big" employment case these people might take your case and do a good job, but if you're an average person seeking help with an EED denial, forget about it... I suggest they remove online materials that suggest that they take such cases on contingency as at best it's misleading, and at worst? An outright lie. Not even the courtesy of a call or email or text informing me that they weren't taking my case. I contacted Pershing years ago regarding an overpayment issue, after a collection agent tried to threaten me. Anyone encounters this, tell the collection agency you have an attorney and offer them the number, and watch how fast the collection agency disappears! It was a very slow process, not with the firm, but our court system, which was combined with a covid epidemic! The case was heard by a judge in 2020, but a bunch of events happened during that period which not only made my case interesting but showed how good this law firm is! The judge, who ruled in my favor, apparently never forwarded the results, which meant the case was not over! Two years later, the threatening notices are appearing again, and the state is now getting more aggressive and nastier with me. I recontacted the firm and then they really put their heads into this case. Two individuals' names that helped me tremendously were Alexis and Charlie! These two stuck by my side through tough times and eased my nerves many times, when I just wanted to give up! Thank goodness I listened to my counsel. We won against the state and everything they claimed I owed them, vanished! I'm also told that all monies I paid to the state already, will be returned to me! This I was not expecting, after past dealings with other tax agencies in our government, but miracles do happen apparently. I'm posting this message on behalf of my Dad, Arturo Gabrintina. My Dad was given ZERO chance of winning his appeal, ZERO. We know it's not a guarantee, but like others before, lack of communication and last minute preparation didn't help. Of course he lost, he's called to find out what options he has and no return call or email yet from Charlie or anyone from the law firm. They don't prepare you for the hearing or anything. He could have did this on his own and saved $1500. That's a lot of money. Don't ask someone to gather documents a few days before the hearing. I recommended Pershing to my Dad, I regret that now. Extremely disappointed. I've read the reviews and saddened we didn't get the same kind of care and attention. To all those reading Yelp, be very careful. read more

My caseworker is Alexis and I just want to say she is absolutely fantastic. EDD had stalled from giving me my benefits for over 4 years. In that time she was persistent and supportive of my plight. Frequently following up with me on my case even when I thought it was done and gone by then. I'm not the type of person that is good with paperwork and finding the right person to talk to in order to process the necessary info. For the past years I've had trouble. An important mail never arrived to my mailbox which led me to miss the deadline to confirm my identity. We took this matter to court, got the appeal but still my benefits wouldn't come even after months. I called EDD, they said they received no mention of my court decision. Then came the shitstorm of different replies I got from EDD responders. Some of them told me that I filed under the wrong program and that I would have to file another case. Others told me not to do that. All of them said they'll call upper management to call me back (They never did) Every person that said they'd call me back--never did. It was just a way to get me off their back. When I told EDD that I have the court decision so just point me to a physical office where I can send those documents--it was impossible. They didn't give a PO box, no email, no physical office, just nothing to work with except their stupid, outdated and horrifically designed online system that doesn't streamline communication like something as simple as uploading additional documents to help your stalled case. Btw, don't bother messaging for help, those are only bots and they keep you waiting for weeks for a reply that tells me to call them instead (groan) You ever had that problem? When you desperately have the solution and you think if you can just speak to the right person, it would be solved...but instead your just constantly having different outlets manipulate you under their shitty system and point you to dead-ends? It's like being in a miserable bureaucratic loop. Alexis help me through all of that. We waited on the phone for hours and she would talk to their associates who had no desire to actually help us. Saying it was out of their hands, that their not in a position to do this and that they need upper management--except upper management never came. Regardless, she kept on calling them, we kept talking to what was dozens of EDD associates, someone that could help receive those court documents. She had communication with them and would do things on her end and this whole entire process would stretch for nearly half a decade. She finally got a breakthrough in what was perhaps an absolute miracle to my eyes when I received the mail asking me to certify for benefits. I dunno how she did it, or how she got through, I just thought it was hopeless being this long but if you ever need proof that you shouldn't forfeit your case no matter how much of a slog it is, she's the gal that'll go through the trenches for you and prove that persistence does carry its weight in gold. I have nothing but my dearest thanks and love for her and Pershing Square Law Firm who never gave up on my case. They didn't earn a dime from my case for those four years since the contract policy they gave me was that I'd only pay a small portion of my benefits assuming they succeeded at my case. I should have just sent my money to the EDD. Now, I've spent $800 on nothing when it could have paid the EDD. Unfortunately, my experience with Pershing Square Law Firm was more than unpleasant. I felt most taken advantage of by them. They make it sound like you have an easy case and that they handle this every day. I did not receive a call until an hour before the hearing with the judge, and they went on to tell me that my story is not that strong. They provide a bunch of information that should have been spread out, but of course, they don't care. The hearing went terribly, and now I am down $800 and have to pay back the full amount to EDD. read more

Completely incompetent. A one minute five minute phone call prior to the EDD hearing. But lots of emails about how much money I owed them. It was paid. The judge informed attorney, Taylor, she'd filed the wrong documents, so I basically represented myself. The judge directed all questions to me. I didn't need them and they were useless. read more
