We been ordering from Persis for the last couple of years now and I find their food to be very decent. I can only speak to my take out experience as I never actually eat in their dining room. For take out, we ordered butter chicken, chicken tikka and chicken biyani. The food is always consistent and good. Chicken is tender and creamy, does perfectly with the garlic naan and rice. The chicken biyani is super spicy, so please be aware. I love spicy food and I still find it very spicy. But I can't help it to keep going back for more. This has been our favorite takeout Indian spot in the bordentown/hamilton area. The store front isn't overall impressive and we have not ate in the restaurant yet. Awesome service: kind, chivalrous, and humble person took care of ensuring that each customer was tended to appropriately and efficiently. He was fast and friendly, intelligent at understanding the food descriptions of the customers even if they (we) didn't know the exact name of the dish. The restaurant often added extra items to our package, graciously. This made the customers want to come back again. Their onion naans were especially warm and tasty with rich flavors that complemented the butter chicken. One does need to specify which spice level one wants; otherwise, some foods can be quite spicy for the average person, even one used to North Indian cuisine. The boneless chicken biryani melts in the mouth and is great with the raita. Do ask for more raita if you need "cooling sauce." Great gulab jamun, also, if you've given up on your diet for a while; otherwise, these have more calories than a piece of chocolate cake! Absolutely obnoxious on the phone. Attempted to order delivery through GrubHub, but the app stalled while processing. Order seemed to go through, but my wife was unsure, so she called to confirm receipt. The man who answered shouted a question to someone else in the kitchen, then got back on and yelled, "don't bother me! Call GrubHub!" So we did. Unfortunately, Persis already confirmed the order, so we couldn't cancel. When the food arrived over an hour later, it was okay, but nothing noteworthy, and certainly not worth dealing with the staff's negative attitude. I would give this restaurant negative stars if I could do so. The problem is not with the food, it's with the VERY POOR service and CONSTANT DELAYS when ordering. I have ordered food from Persis for about a year now, maybe 10-15 times. Of those orders, my food arrives on time about 10% of the time. And be warned, the Managment there DOES NOT CARE WHATSOEVER. My orders are consistently at least 90-120 minutes late BEYOND the expected delivery time provided on popular food order delivery apps. So if you like Indian food like I do but want to actually eat it within 2+ hours of ordering it, find a reputable alternative to this mess of a business in central NJ. This place deserves to be better known as the food here is, in my opinion, the best Indian food in Central NJ. Not that we've tried all the Indian restaurants in CNJ, plus we only go during their lunch buffet, but I've yet to find better tasting food. Certainly better than Paradise Biryani Pointe or Shalimar along Route 1, prices are also very reasonable. Standouts for me are anything korma, biryani, the goat curry, chicken 65, the naan bread which comes straight from the oven. Place was okay. Garlic naan was basically plain naan and really soggy. Got the navratan korma (vegetarian dish) which wasn't the best I've had but it was okay. Only problem is, it was a vegetarian dish and i found a couple pieces of bone in it. If you're a vegetarian I would avoid this place or you'll find yourself eating bones or meat in a vegetarian dish. Chicken Tikka was so spicy and dry and came with no rice and a small portion of chicken for 16 dollars. Do not order food for pickup on Friday night!! Arrived at store with 10+ people waiting to receive their food. I had to wait nearly an hour for my food to be ready. Horrible pickup process. Update: I decided to give Persis another try and picked up food on a Tuesday night. This time there was no wait but the owner was incredibly rude to me due to my negative review. He started shouting at me and his suggestion to me was to unassign orders if his restaurant cannot abide to the required pickup times. Contract delivery drivers are not paid per hour and if we unassign orders after arriving at a restaurant for pickup then we do not get paid anything and lose money on the cost of traveling to the restaurant. I popped in to order samosa today. The bill was $5.32 I handed him a $20 and started to give the 32 cents which he waved away. He gave me $5. I looked at him like what? He took back the $5 apologizing and gave me a $10 at this point I put the 32cents on the counter and stated that I gave a $20 and should get $15 back. I find myself going to the movies in Jersey more than at the closer Oxford Valley or Neshaminy theaters. Hamilton AMC is often my destination, so I look for interesting pre-cinema dinners in proximity. Last night we found Persis Indian Grill in the strip mall at 3800 Quakerbridge Road. The reviews were mostly decent so we gave it a try. Very glad we did. The room is not very big, but on a snowy night, there was only one other brave couple in the house, and we were on opposite walls. The menu of several pages covered the veggie and non-veggie possibilities, and we quickly decided to try a cross section of dishes to get a good feel for the kitchen. We skipped the apps, and went right at Navarattan Khorma, Chicken Chettinadu, and Persis Goat Biryani. An order of Garlic Naan, Long Basmati Rice, and a Mango Lassi rounded out our table. The Khorma and Chettinadu were both excellent, with creamy sauces and mild heat (although we asked for our dishes spicy, they were nonetheless mild). The mix of fresh veggies and tofu was delectable. The Chettinadu had ample white meat chicken in a rusty sauce, also very good. The Goat Biryani was a bit of a challenge. It was my first attempt eating this. While the rice with all the veggies and spices was quite tasty, the dark meat of the goat came with small bones that made for slow chewing and some picking. The flavor was deep and savory, but not worth the effort for me. The Naan was thinner than I had eaten in many other Indian shops, but still hot, and excellent at absorbing the sauces toward the end of the meal. Can't let a drop of those wonderful gravies go to waste. The Lassi was cool, sweet, and creamy. Loved it. While Persis is a chain/franchise outlet, with stores around the USA, it was a genuine find for an enjoyable South Indian meal. While perhaps not quite at the level of satisfaction I feel at Palace of Asia, it is a worthy competitor, and I will be back. read more

The food here is very tasty. I order the Goat Pepper Fry and the Boneless Chicken Biryani, absolutely amazing. I love spicy food and have heard good things about this place from my coworker. I ordered food from here for my lunch break and picked it up. When my order was ready I received a call letting me know that it was available for pick up. This was during lunch time. The person I spoke with was very polite, professional and friendly. I was even given 4 samosas and a container to sample something from the buffet bar to take home. The spice level for my food was medium which was good for me, I like spicy food and am used to the heat and it was perfect. Be sure to specify your spice level if you are not accustom to spicy food. Chicken tikka masala was way too salty, Aloo Goobi was mostly cauliflower not many potatoes, also on the salty side. Both dishes didn't taste good other than saltiness. The garlic naans seemed to be frozen stuff reheated, not freshly baked, you can tell from the texture itself. The dessert "brown sweet cheese balls" didn't have enough honey in it, kinda on the dry side. Everything was below expectations. Never order from this place again. read more

This restaurant deserves five star if only the food is taken into account. The masala is really great. Excellent spice, amazing chilly, Loved it. Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala are great. Fish Fry is fabulous. When crowded, he made me wait for more than twenty minutes. Over the phone he says twenty minutes and you end up waiting twenty more minutes. Only one person can get in to pick up the food. When the food is not ready for the one who went inside, that person waits and all the other ones have to wait outside! There is only one person and he keeps taking the order, walks back and forth, I can clearly see they are short staffed. They haven't opened for public. Only take outs. May be that's economical for them. There are customers who park right in front of the hotel with flash lights on and wait for for twenty minutes or more which is crazy annoying as one needs to navigate around to go and park. read more

The person who took my order was a bit rushed and abrupt on the phone but in person he was very kind and gracious (I found out later that he was short-staffed). The dishes that we ordered mild were still a bit too spicy for our taste but delicious nonetheless. Luckily, I had the ingredients at home to make a lassi, and that helped a lot with the spice. Their food is much better than Amaravati or Hurry Chutney - the sauces are rich and delicious, not heavy or salty, the chicken was succulent, and paneer was cut in nice large pieces (not tiny little dices).
