Best Indian food in town. The buffet was excellent. Everything was great. If you like Indian food you will love Persis.

This was the second visit for ordering takeout for a summer evening for a family of 6. Ordered two of three entrees each of saagwala paneer, paneer tikka masala and Malabar veg curry. For a price tag of $96, we received two pints of perfect sauces, one pint of steamed and 'ground to smoothness' spinach but that is where it stopped. There was hardly any paneer in the paneer tikka masala or saagwala paneer. I ended up roasting paneer at home to make the dishes presentation worthy and Malabar curry with mixed veggies was underwhelming as all we saw for veggies were a poor portion of frozen vegetables out of the grocery store's frozen aisle. What a let down for a hefty price. Disappointed. No pictures to post because I ended up cooking after paying that money. read more

Y'all. We eat at a lot of Indian restaurants and at this point, it's difficult to stand out. When I tell you Persis stood out, believe me. We were in Greenville for the week on vacation. We had already had "okay" Indian delivery from another place in town on Monday. My wife was shopping at a store in the plaza, so I decided to go check Persis out rather than wait outside a dressing room. Saw they had Masala Dosa on the menu and promptly forgot which store my wife was in. The masala dosa was amazing. Crisp on the ends, good flavor, the masala in the middle was just spicy enough and nicely done. The tomato chutney had nice spice, and the coconut chutney was good also. The sambar was probably the best I've had in my life. I probably would have fought you for it. The lady managing the place was outgoing and welcoming and chatted me up while I was there. She heard we were traveling and told us we should come back on Friday for the buffet. Unlimited dosa? I ain't dumb. We went back two days later as instructed. The buffet was large and had a great selection of veg and non-veg selections, as well as a dosa station. Here are my highlights: Tawa Vegetables- basically griddled seasoned veg mix. These were a stand out item for us. Simple veg but done really well. Eggplant with green chilis - this was suggested to be spicy, but I didn't find it to be so, and I'm a bit of a weenie. It had good flavor, and Baingan Bharta is my all time favorite, so it was fun to try a different yet similar dish. Veg Biryani - light and well cooked. I enjoyed it very much. Butter Chicken - Y'all, this might be the first time in my life I've seen someone make butter chicken with texture and richness to this level. When they say it's their signature dish, I understand why. The chicken was grilled and had *actual* char marks, giving it actual texture and flavor. The curry tasted amazing and had so much butter that it was richer than Jeff Bezos. I almost couldn't finish it because it was so rich, but Mama didn't raise a quitter. 10/10, would eat again right now. There was a fish dish that I didn't try and a Chana Saag I just never made room for. There were many choices across a wide swath of foods and flavors. The Chai they had was also excellent. Apparently they make their own Chai Masala rather than a mix. The staff was friendly and checked on us many times. Overall, 10/10 and would go back to Greenville just to eat here again. read more

We love coming here for date night. Everyone here is always so friendly and the owner is the best! You have to get the garlic naan when you were here because it is absolutely delicious. We always like to try different things but a staple and what we order is the butter chicken or the chicken tikka masala. We love to get it extra spicy. They do also serve a lunch buffet on the weekends which I haven't gotten to do yet, but that is going to be a goal of mine! read more

There is absolutely no consistency with the food. Our first couple of visits the food was fantastic and we thought we had found our go to. Every visit since then has been a major disappointment. Sometimes the tikka masala is so heavy on spices it doesn't taste like masala. Sometimes they just substitute butter chicken or just make it bland and oily. The heat scale is also incredibly inconsistent. Ordering on buffet days is the worst. They either pull subpar quality food off the buffet instead of making your order fresh or they'll just give you a substitute dish that's similar. So if you plan to roll the dice and eat here, shoot for an evening M-T. You might get what you ordered and it might be really good. read more

The buffet had dishes that had no meat or vegetables in them. They were just sauce. No chicken, beef or shrimp. It makes me think that it's a cost cutting measure and they're trying to dupe their customers. Service was non existent because of another cost cutting measure: 1 waiter. Dear Persis, Your Tika Masala can do no wrong. ;) Ok but seriously, this dish has become one of my favorites, and I've never had a better Tika Masala than what I've had at Persis. Persis is off of Woodruff Road, in the same shopping center with Once Upon a Child and the Dollar Tree. Despite it's humble location, it is a hidden gem. The lunch buffet is fantastic - a variety of fresh made Indian dishes that will please even the less than adventurous eater. Note: You do NOT have to like spicy food to enjoy this restaurant. If you have never been here, I highly recommend the buffet (lunch only). You will have a chance to try out so many different dishes and really to see what you like best. If you go at dinner and don' have the buffet option, you really can't go wrong with the Tika Masala. Both the chicken and the shrimp are excellent and they are served over a soft, light rice. P.S. Hate to do this but I have to pull them down a few stars. I love the recipes but the last 2 times in a row I went my order was either lost or messed up. I order paneer tikka masala, the last visit my order was initially lost. It finally comes and they forgot the vegetables (gave me Paneer Butter Masala instead). The prior visit, they gave me a bowl full of paneer (cheese) with little to no sauce. I love the owner's recipes but these careless mistakes are starting to make me think about taking them out of my rotation. No apologies, discounts, etc either. We went here for lunch about a week before Thanksgiving. $34.54 for two, which I felt was a bit pricey for a lunch buffet. But it's been at least two years since I've been to an Indian buffet, and covid has raised the cost of seemingly everything. The food was delicious, the people pleasant. The restroom was clean. Good if you go on a day when the lunch buffet is closed. I ate here (twice) on a Monday afternoon when the lunch buffet was closed and I thought the food was really good. Despite my distaste for buffets in general, I decided to give it a try. As I feared, it was really sub-par. Imagine being in the hospital and getting served Indian food and you may have some idea what the lunch buffet experience is like. The buffet food just tastes like the most mediocre version of itself. The Tikka Masala was ...meh. The naan tasted like they bought pita bread from Sams and put it in the warming tray. Everything I tried was disappointing. Not 'I'm going to get sick' bad, but definitely 'I wish I'd eaten at Taco Bell instead' bad. I went there today and thought 'I'll just order off of the menu and maybe it will be better!'. I can be soooo naive sometimes. I paid for the lunch special and I swear the guy ran into the kitchen and served me from the buffet trays because he brought back my order in under 5 minutes. I got small portions of mediocre food instead of large ones. The atmosphere isn't really nice enough for dinner dates so, if I go back - it will be on a Monday! read more

Visited Persis Biryani for lunch. The strip mall exterior is a plain package for this absolute delight of a restaurant. The inside is bright and cheerful and the owner was incredible. She stopped and talked with us at length about the 2023 vegan challenge, her favorite items, and what was already vegan on the menu. The kidney beans and tofu that are special for the challenge were truly exceptional. I hope both make it to a permanent menu and I'll definitely be back. The food was truly exceptional. read more

While the ambiance was okay, the food and service were absolutely amazing! The owner suggested a "hidden gem" from the menu based on my description of my tastes, and she absolutely nailed it. I won't tell you what it is because I think you should explore the menu for yourself, and let her guide your taste buds to the right selection. This is the best Indian food in Greenville in my opinion. The chicken tikka masala was heavenly. The chicken tasted fresh and not rubbery like some of the other places I've been. The sauce was so flavorful and interesting. Sooo good. I also loved their naan which seemed to be fired in a tandoori grill. My friends also loved the mango lassi which seemed to have real mango purée in it. Only negative was I had to ask for them to bring the check after waiting for a while, which I don't like to do. Full Buffet is on Saturday's & Sunday's from 12pm-3pm Come to the buffet so that you can experience a little of everything they have to offer. I've found lots of great new dishes this way. Their mango lassi's are also good and if you've never had one before it is a hidden treat you will love whether you like Indian food or not. Well, unless you just don't like mangos, in which case I'd say there's something wrong with you. All dishes I've tried so far I give 5/5 stars. You just can't go wrong here. Excellent Indian food, and now at the top of my list for when I need to get my cravings for the stuff down. Make the trip even if you live in a surrounding city. You won't regret it. read more

I found this restaurant through the restaurant week of South Carolina website. The food was really outstanding. The review is also for a takeout meal: our go-to in this area of social distancing. We started with "cut mirchi" as an appetizer. Id never had it but it was a chili-based dish with fried chickpea batter. it was served as very hot and VERY tasty. Our breads were a regular naan and kulcha. This was stuffed with chilies (not too hot) as well as herbs and spices! Onto the entrees, I had chicken tandoori murgh, wonderfully spiced after being cooked in the traditional clay oven. She had butter chicken which was the highlight of the meal. Spicy but wonderfully rich and full or body. Location not the easiest to find but it was well worth it. The female owner helped us over the phone as well as serving during pickup. She was delightful! The food was very disappointing. It seemed like everything was soupy. Not sure what they make their Butter Paneer from but tasted like Campbell's soup and the Paneer had a tangy taste. Not what I am used to. The selection was not great for a buffet so you are pretty much stuck. The condiments like the mint chutney again were super soupy and lacked in taste. Came here for lunch buffet which doesn't exist during the week anymore. They only have lunch buffet Friday-Sunday. They had lunch specials that were priced at $14.99, be aware if you get your food to go you will have to pay $2 more which they don't disclose, when I asked why I was charged a different price I was told it was for extra containers! Asked two people I came across of South Asian origin on my latest trip to the GVL of where was the place to go for Indian food and both declared Persis was the spot you should check out. So I had to drop in for a visit. Spoke with the owner Sima who was very cordial and friendly. They specialize in South Indian cuisine here. She asked my preference for spice and I shared that my tongue can handle moderate spice. Decided to go with what was recommended for the fried donut fritter with three different sauces as an app and it was a nice touch. Then for dinner decided on the lamb Vindaloo. It was succulent, rich and super flavourful with a good kick of spice. I ordered a garlic naan which was a good mix of crispy and soft.this is the key to good naan bread. My only disappointment was I just return for the buffet as for me the spices and flavours of different dishes to sample I can't wait to try. **Buffet is only available for lunch only. Dinner you must order off the dinner menu. Spice, presentation and flavour plus service was outstanding. Can't wait to come back. read more
