An amazing patio overlooking one of the main streets of downtown Greenville, with a cozy interior ambiance as well. Our server was super friendly and knowledgeable of the local food, drinks and their amazing wine selection. Soby's just won the Wine Spectator Grand Award (highest possible) and a Michelin recommended restaurant for 2025. And it shows. We didn't get any wine this evening, but the menu is as thick as a long novel. Anything and everything is in this puppy. Wines from all over the world, ranging from a few bucks to over $13,000 a bottle. Take your pick. We opted for some beer and cocktails, all of which were perfect. The food. This southern inspired menu with local ingredients was fantastic. We had a spicy pimento cheese app with crispy pita and pickled okra...delish! The beet and goat cheese salad was one of the best we've had. The pic speaks for itself there. The Soby's fried chicken is something you HAVE to get if you go. The best fried chicken, with the best bacon mac n cheese to complement it. Tender and juicy, crispy and flavorful...these words don't even scratch the surface of how good this dish was. Verdict: Come for the ambience and the white chocolate banana cream pie, stay for the gravy, and hope your eggs don't spend too long in the "spotlight." Soby's serves Southern charm before the food even hits the table. (And if your experience is anything like mine, you will be waiting awhile for the food to hit the table.) Weathered wood beams stretch overhead, brick walls hold decades of character, and the warm lighting makes the whole room glow like butter on a hot biscuit. The kitchen hums with the kind of energy that says brunch is serious business. If you sit upstairs at the loft, there are some seats that overlook the kitchen so it's like brunch and a show. The pecan sticky bun is sweet enough to make you reconsider sharing though I wouldn't know because they ran out of it before 11:00a. Service was friendly and quick on the front end, though the kitchen's food expeditors seemed a little short-handed. The result? A slight wait that left some eggs spending a bit too much quality time under the heat lamps. My Shakshuka dish had an egg-istential crisis. Instead of that luscious over-easy river of yolk, the eggs arrived closer to hard-boiled territory--less "runny brunch bliss" and more "deviled egg audition." Thankfully, our waiter expedited another over easy egg to replace the one that came with my dish. The Providence Farm Country Fried Steak was the undeniable headliner--about 1.5 inches thick and fried to golden perfection. Smothered in sausage gravy, it was the kind of dish that makes cardiologists nervously flip through their calendars. The flavor? Steak-ing its claim as one of the better country fried steaks around. The sunny-side egg, however, had clearly spent a little too long basking beneath the warming lights alongside my shakshuka. But, if you come for one thing only, let it be the white chocolate banana cream pie. As I've heard Southern Belles say in gest, "it'll make you wanna slap your mama." It's frustrating, because the food and service are great once you are actually seated, but the past two times I have been there, I had a reservation, and I still ended up waiting more than 40 minutes to be seated. Nobody ever acknowledged the wait either, just an unbelievable amount of time consumed standing around waiting. Great food, very cool restaurant, but it'll be tough to pick it with so many other good places in Greenville that won't waste nearly an hour of my time. read more

We decided to try Soby's and ended up taking our waiter's suggestion to do the half and half, which included a half portion of the crab cake and a half portion of the shrimp and grits. I'm so glad we listened as both dishes were great. The crab cake was definitely more crab than cake, which is always a good sign, and the creamed corn underneath was delicious. The green beans were fresh and perfectly cooked. The shrimp and grits were also spot on. The grits were creamy and well-seasoned, and the shrimp came with sausage that added just the right amount of flavor. It had a little spice but nothing overpowering. For dessert, we tried the sweet potato cheesecake, and it honestly tasted just like sweet potato pie. The mandarin oranges on the side added a nice citrusy finish that balanced it all out. I would like to live closer to Soby's just so I can have the banana cream pie more often. Seriously. Best banana cream pie ever. Of course, I did eat other things. We started off in the bar for a cocktail while we waited for one of the big booths--it's the south, so there was loud sportsball on the TVs, which wasn't my favorite. However, service was good and the drinks were well prepared. We were soon seated in our booth, and service from Brion (not sure of the spelling, sorry!) was appropriately charming Southern! Because we wanted to try a lot of things, he kindly suggested a half portion on the shrimp and grits so we could have an appetizer size serving. Arrived early and was seated very quickly with a lovely table inside. The ambience is amazing. It is a 106 year-old, remodeled and converted building that was once a grocery store and pharmacy. The food was great, we enjoyed shrimp and grits and added a side of a crabcake which was filled with crab. There was a good variety of wines and mixed drinks on the menu. We came for a group brunch, I had challenges with climbing all the stairs with my old knees to where we were seated. Our waiters were very nice and quick and our food was very good. A bit of a salt bomb on the grits but they were very creamy. My partner ordered the chix fried steak, it was not crispy nor was the meat done, it bled on his plate. So that was a bummer. read more

Ah the goat. This is the paragon for Greenville restaurants. All the dishes are well-made, the presentation is sufficient, and the service is spot-on. Of course, the area is kept clean and well-maintained. To give an example of the service, their training server overheard me and my then-girlfriend, now fiancee, talk about sharing the shrimp and grits. So, she asked the kitchen to split up the portion ahead of time to allow both of us to hand a good looking dish. It's those little things that set restaurants apart and this is one of them. We were greeted at the host desk and seated immediately with a reservation for brunch. This place is huge, but also spacious. Our waiter, Stephan, was attentive, helpful, and actually seemed like he cared about serving us. We got the pecan sticky buns as a starter and the fried chicken plate as our entree. The sticky buns were much bigger than expected and tasted even better!! They were able to split the fried chicken plate for us, which included a chicken breast with an amazing hot honey glaze, mac and cheese, and green beans. I was interviewing for a job in Greenville, SC and the interviewer stated I must try Sobys. I went for dinner and had the Southern Fried Chicken, Fried Green Tomatoes , and finished with the banana cream pie. When I tell you I don't like tomatoes and wanted to order a second order, I mean it. It's a classic southern dish and went perfectly with the family feel So ya exuded. The service was wonderful. We go to Soby"s regularly, especially before attending a concert or a show downtown. It didn't disappoint until today. It wasn't the ambiance or the service but the kitchen. My country fried steak was the most abismal meal I've had, hands down. I've had country fried steak and chicken fried steak all over the country and have never been served a so under prepared, gristle laden, over salted piece of meat. It was about 3/4" thick and obviously wasn't tenderized with a mallet to break down the muscle fiber before preparing for cooking. I had to have ginger chewies to calm down my stomach before going to the Peace Center. Soby's, it you can't cook it right, take it off your menu. read more

We recently enjoyed a long weekend in Greenville, and we were very surprised at what a foodie town this little city is. We loved the downtown area, and saw so many positive reviews for this place, we made a reservation even though the best time we could get was 8:30 for dinner. When we arrived, there was still a wait, which we know happens sometimes. This is a bigger place than you realize, when we were finally called, we went all the way to the back and up a flight of stairs. Our table overlooked the kitchen, that's kind of cool. The food was all very good, I must say. Everyone says order the crab bisque, so we did. Very good. Even better when you use the biscuits to sop up the last little bits. We shared the Southern Fried Chicken... very good as well. The server knew we were celebrating an anniversary, so he brought us a banana creme pie. I can see why folks enjoy it, even though we could only eat a bite or two. We thought about bringing home leftovers, but if you are visiting this area, know that everywhere is very walkable... so you're likely to not get your car out until you're heading home. We went here for brunch to celebrate our in-laws anniversary! The ladies got the Shakshuka which was to die for! Packed full of flavor and the bread was so good with it. My husband got the shrimp and grits which he loved and my father in-law raved over his country fried steak. They gave my in-laws a complimentary chocolate bite to celebrate their anniversary at the end of the meal. I wish I would have saved room to try their pecan sticky bun because a few of the tables we passed on the way out had ordered it and it looked huge and amazing! I am excited Soby's decided to start serving brunch as their dinner is so good. The restaurant is located in the heart of Main Street in a beautiful brick building. Inside find, booth and table seating and even an upstairs dining area. There is also an outdoor patio. The kitchen is open concept and the art on the walls features local scenes. We had an amazing lunch here. The fried chicken is not something I would normally order but so glad I did! It was super juicy and the little bit of hot honey drizzle made it. The Mac and cheese was excellent as well (big chunks of ham). The shrimp and grits with sausage was very good, although I prefer more crumbled, crispy sausage but still very good. OMG! Seriously, some of the best food I've ever had! If you are in Greenville, highly recommend coming here. It was so good, I didn't even remember to take pics before diving into each item. A coworker and I are in town for a work trip. We couldn't decide what to have for dinner, so we decided to take a walk around the area by our hotel and let the walk decide for us. We stumbled upon Soby's. There were several people eating in the outdoor patio area and in the inside bar area that had large doors open. All the food everyone had looked so good! We shared the Baked Brie and Ciabatta - delicious! The apple, walnut, apricot topping was the perfect texture and flavor! I had the crab cakes. It is a large portion, so I just knew I was going to take one to go. Nope! I ate both of them because they were a good! My coworker had the salmon and she said it was very flavorful and she enjoyed the sauce on it. We shared the cookies n cream cheesecake. Perfect sharing size and level of sweetness! The server (I think his name was Cameron) was super attentive to our table and everyone else around us. TLDR: just go! The food is amazing and the service was incredible. This was our second visit to Soby's, and it was just as amazing as the first! We started with the fried green tomatoes and spicy pimento cheese. Both were full of flavor and so well done. For our mains, we had the braised short rib and the Joyce Farms fried chicken, and everything was perfectly cooked and delicious. Drinks were also 10/10! The service was excellent, and the staff went above and beyond to make the evening special. Food and service were great! Our waitress was very attentive and kind. We sat upstairs and it was fairly quiet for a Saturday morning. We also were severely underdressed (sweat shorts and tennis shoes lol) I ordered the eggs Benedict and it was really good. My boyfriend has the biscuits and gravy and he wasn't a huge fan of them, but I liked the bite I had! I will say I think we had post-order regret for not ordering the lemon ricotta pancakes.... Came here on a Saturday around 8pm. A lot of restaurants in this area didn't have reservation or walk-in availability but there was no wait here! The ambiance was lovely, there were a lot of interior tables along with seating near the bar in an indoor/outdoor setup. A lot of outdoor patio seating as well. Our bartender, Brandon, was absolutely spectacular. My friend got an espresso martini (made custom with tequila) and it was delicious. I ordered the salmon, I didn't specify a temperature when I ordered it but I'd recommend medium or anything a little bit less than the default temp here. It was seasoned very nicely and came with a side of little potatoes wedges and crispy cabbage. I also ordered a side of mashed potatoes, they were wonderful!!
