I saw a $25 basket book sale shared on Facebook and had to come check it out. This spot was also within walking distance of a coffee shop I'd been wanting to try.. so why not, right? THREE FLOORS. There are THREE floors worth of books. They are organized by topic, by author, by color and into little private nooks that I absolutely adore. I was here for over an hour just browsing and filling up my basket, but I could've definitely stayed longer. Definitely my new happy place. I got an ad on Facebook and that was my reason for walking in and checking the store out. It definitely is worth the trip because it's such a cute little shop and their prices are really great. I got a collectors edition, Black Beauty, for a lot less than Barnes & Noble carries (soft cover though). They have a relatively decent selection, but as a lot of it is used books it is difficult to find a specific author if they just don't have it. I was specifically looking for Terry Pratchett books, but I could not find any. The service was nice and helped us out the café in the back. Unfortunately, I ordered a hot chai latte and got a cold one which was still pretty tasty. Overall worth a visit read more

Absolutely amazing book store! The $25 basket sale, designed to clear out some of their inventory, is brilliant. We spent over two hours exploring. The espresso bar is a nice touch to the space, and the barista was friendly! I found tons of books I'd been looking for. There were a bunch of books not included in the basket sale but they were clearly marked. I still bought some of those anyway! I can't wait to go back! read more

I love Persnickety!! I have been many times now and love that they sell secondhand books primarily. This not only makes the books cheaper for the buyer, but it gives those books another life! I bought a book I had been eyeing on Amazon that usually sells in hardback for about $25 and got it here for $5! Hard to beat that. I also love that Persnickety has a little coffee bar. They have a student discount that made the coffee half the price of what Starbucks is these days. I also adore all the cozy spaces they have set up for reading or playing board games. This used bookstore in downtown Burlington is simply perfect. I wish I lived closer. It has tons and tons of used books, but is not overwhelming. Everything is neatly organized into areas by theme. There are comfortable chairs and tables, nooks, reading areas, and privacy cubicles. There is a community space upstairs with printers and other office necessities, and we must not forget the mirror ball and huge arched window letting in the natural light. The entire store has eclectic touches and artwork to discover. There are three floors of books, and a charming kids area for young readers. The sign and exterior window displays are exquisite. Anything with a cat has got me already though. This is a nice environment because the staff lets you be, yet is extremely friendly when you approach the front counter for payment or questions. I love the gifts, homemade cards, and origami creations throughout the store as well. read more

Loved this big used bookstore and really wished we lived closer! Very organized & cute displays throughout. The storefront windows are ADORABLE. Great variety of lots of genres of books, & super kind and helpful staff. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in their YA section as it was very limited and leaned heavy on the younger (middle school) side. Also, most books were priced a little high for used books, but when you take into account the store's amazing mission (helping fund literacy programs & bring more books to the incarcerated), it's easier to look past. Definitely will be back if I'm in the area! read more

I just got out of this bookstore and I bought 3 books for $19 dollars and 2 of them were hardbacks so that is a great deal. The cashier who checked me out was very nice and they seem to have a great rewards account/system. They also had a wide selection of books. I will definitely be coming back and I'm so glad I found out about this. read more

I visited Persnickety Books for the first time this evening, and I already feel confident in saying that it is pretty much everything I want in a bookstore. For starters, the space is larger than it appears from the street. There is an adorable upstairs area where you can comfortably sit and relax or host a book club. Most of the books are used and in good condition, though they do have brand new books as well. Unlike many used bookstores I've been to, Persnickety is warm and inviting and very well organized with easy-to-read signs on each bookcase indicating the genre. There are also endcaps and tables with newer titles, perfect for browsing when you aren't quite sure what you're looking for. If the book you're interested in is not in stock, you can special order it - I found the bookseller to be incredibly helpful and kind when I inquired about a particular title. They also sell t-shirts and other small gift items. I follow them on social media and that has been a great way to hear about BOGO and other promotions, which seem to happen frequently. Best of all, each purchase goes towards supporting formerly incarcerated individuals. The only thing that could make Persnickety Books better, in my opinion, is if they opened a coffee shop next door! read more

I visited the store today after following for a while on social media. The space is beautiful with a good selection. There are both new and used books on three levels. I appreciated the signage outside requiring that patrons wear masks, but would have appreciated the employees doing the same. Linda was, however, very friendly. There is a cute upstairs area for reading or relaxing. I hope to return after the Pandemic. read more

I really liked the atmosphere. I love how the books were organized into separate genres and authors. There were cute little chairs around for you to sit. Bathrooms were very unique and clean. Not very many book selections for young adults, but lots of selection in other genres. I would recommend checking this place out. read more

This is such a shining star in the downtown Burlington area! If you didn't know better, you'd think you were in a NEW book store! It's so well organized, has a great atmosphere, the prices are great and I was welcomed the moment I walked in! There are several cozy sitting areas and it feels like you're stepping back in time to an old school local bookstore, before the big box bookstores took over. I can't say enough great things! I don't live in Burlington but I'll be back every chance I get! read more

Updating my review. The old owners were absolutely amazing. The new owner leaves a lot to be desired. Main problem is they have no business selling books from Dolly Partons Imagination Library (those are received for free every month from birth to the age of five). That alone shows me that Mr Batulis is more concerned with making a buck than doing what's right. read more
