Bad Experience - Unfair Treatment and Possible Discrimination to : Mr. Jeff Clarke, as the owner and operator On Sunday, October 19, 2025, around 12:45 a.m., I was asked to leave Person Street Bar (805 N Person St, Raleigh, NC 27604) by one of the female servers. While this happened, another individual placed his hand on my shoulder. I was not being disruptive or inappropriate in any way -- I was dressed in a suit and behaving respectfully. I was simply being social and talking with other customers. Despite that, I was suddenly asked to leave, which felt unfair and humiliating. I believe I was treated without respect and possibly discriminated against. This kind of behavior is unacceptable. Mr. Jeff Clarke, as the owner and operator, I want you to be aware that I intend to report this incident to the City of Raleigh Office of Equity and Inclusion and consider legal action for discrimination and wrongful treatment. read more

This was my first visit to PSB with my friend and I got vibes of it being more divey for the area when we entered. I did not like the draft options so I got a can of Bell's Two Hearted IPA instead. We went outside to drink our beers and enjoyed it. I liked the misters and outdoor space but not all of the ash trays. It was a chill spot but it personally would not be my first choice for a drink around there. read more

One of my favorite local spots to land at when I'm winding down the night. The bartenders make quick work of everything so service is good, they've got great drink prices and a solid regular menu of drinks to choose from (my usuals are the #1 or #2), and there's a ton of space to hang out. There's a front patio, bar with a little alcove, a game room and a spacious back patio. Thye're also one of the only places open late that isn't in a high traffic, overcrowded area of downtown. This place has no business being as pretentious as it is given it's just an open room in a strip mall on Person St. Every interaction with staff is offputting. Service is inexplicably slow and attention to detail is lacking. The vibe attracts a clientele that is similarly icy. I arrived with a few friends. We spent a couple of minutes outside finishing our Two Roosters before walking in and the bouncer exasperatingly greeted us with "you can't just stand out there" and "if you come in are you going to buy something?". Always gotta like bar-bar's, places that are purpose-built to serve beers, cocktails and other libations. Person Street Bar fits into that category and fills a gap in the recently busy, Oakwood/Mordecai neighborhood! On the outside the place is super unassuming, not noticeable unless you're looking which is probably what they're going for. Inside the space is a mix of dark and light. There's a lot of dark walls and woods but a lighter colored (tile?) floor and gameroom. The windows up front are also pretty big giving the space natural lighting. So I'm sorta mixed on the ambiance. But bars are all about the people that hang out there from staff and patrons. The local fall into the 20 and 30-something hipster category. Lots of tattoo's and plaids which is fine by me since I pretty much stick out wherever I am in Raleigh. So so far, so good Person Street Bar. We'll see where she ends up a couple of months down the road... read more

The perfect definition of a friendly neighborhood bar! I went to Person Street Bar for the first time to meet a friend and had a really good time! The space was cool and comfy (especially the patio), the staff were all friendly and helpful and the drinks were very good! I tried one of their specialty cocktails as well as a cider and both were tasty, though I preferred the cider a bit more (both in price and taste). Also bonus point for being dog-friendly- there were lots of cute pups to pet while we enjoyed our drinks! My only (slight) complaint is that the game room is a bit random, with no one really enjoying it (at first I though it wasn't open). Perhaps a bit more thought needs to go into utilizing this space? Despite this small nitpick I REALLY enjoyed my time at Person Street. The place was full of regulars and i'm kinda hoping i'll become one of them soon! read more

I think this place was awesome. I was also pretttty wine stumbly so the details are kinda fuzzy. But it is a bar, soooo I'd say they did their job. I enjoyed a few glasses of delicious Malbec while out for a friend's birthday. The ambiance is nice and the bathrooms are clean. Prices were average to a bit higher but not unexpected for the area. There were some creepers around the pool table so I didn't get to finish my game of pool by myself. The outdoor area was totally unexpected and a lovely surprise. We went to this bar a few times because it's in our neighborhood. The large tall bartender with the beard is and always has been rude and inattentive. Won't even look at guest half the time when taking an order or anything, he just looks over you. We were the only two people at the bar without drinks and waited for about 10 minutes to try to get his attention. He kept glancing everywhere but was too busy on his phone to actually even notice and kept his back turned. It's been like this every single time we've been here. read more

I've driven by Person Street Bar about 100 times and every time we go by, I think to myself, I need to check that place out. Turns out some of my friends are regulars due to their favorite bartender Tom and invited me over the weekend to stop by. We were in Saturday during the day so the place had a nice crowd on their patio, inside the bar was lively, but not so crowded that you had to wait to order a drink. I thought Tom was entertaining, friendly, and made a great drink. I am already looking forward to heading back in and sipping on some deliciousness. I thought the cocktail prices were pretty reasonable as well. I love the mid-century vibe of the place. If you're searching for a chill hangout spot to have a tasty libation in a cozy bar with retro feel & amazingly awesome patio, look no further! Person Street Bar is conveniently located downtown near the Raleigh City Farm & Yellow Dog Bread Company. There's a few parking spots in the shared lot of this plaza & there's many on nearby neighborhood streets. It's bike friendly with ample spots to lock up & snag a bevvie of your choice. I love coming here on week nights & earlier in the evenings on weekends; still a 4-star place though bc the weekend night crowds just really suck & bring down the vibe of this place. Otherwise, PSB is knwon for their chill music, good vibes, great drinks, pool, pinball machines, and a projector TV for sports games or throwback movie faves. The patio is probably my favorite spot at night- it's dimly lit with Edison bulbs & surrounded by lush herbs- so aromatic & cozy! There's a fabulous water feature that provides great ambiance to enjoy a beverage in their vintage patio loungers or table/chairs (probably holds 40-50 with all the space they have). The patio is very dog friendly (some staff let dogs inside & some don't- haven't figured out why the discrepancy). They've always got 8-10 taps of different sorts that are $5-6 each, usually something for everyone's liking! Several local craft beers and a few others from around the country - they sometimes get rare-r ones too. The bartenders can mix some classy cocktails with the fine whiskies, scotches, vodkas & rums they carry; many unique ones that are worth the money & effort. All in all, this place is definitely one of my favorite spots in downtown Raleigh. Since they don't serve food, they often have someone checking IDs (& like $1 memberships) at the door. It's a good bar to go to when you want a casual night. They have a small cocktail list, if you want to try a cocktail, and they also have a good draft selection, as well as other beers. They also host watch parties--recently I went there and they were streaming the UNC-Auburn game. I didn't realize this was going on, just happened to show up. The place was packed, so it also seems like a fun atmosphere if there's a particular sports game they plan to stream. I've also gone here for the day party during Hopscotch, and that's always pretty fun. They'll have a band playing and offer beers inside and outside. read more

Been meaning to check this place out for a while and finally stopped in after dinner with some friends. This place makes me want to be a regular. Cool neighborhood bar with a slightly divey undercurrent. Has a decent game room with a pool table, foosball table, and a couple of pinball machines. The bar has you covered with cocktails and beer ranging from good craft draft to cheap canned. Didn't check out the wine selection, but based on the other choices it is probably decent. They don't serve food, but there are plenty of good places to eat before/after, or grab some take out and eat it there. As for kid friendliness, leave the kids at home and enjoy a drink out with the adults. read more

Came here last night for a quick drink with a friend. I almost missed it because I'm not sure their signage is complete yet, but I saw the big P on the door. Inside was a lot larger than I expected, with a beautiful huge wooden bar - the woodwork extends up to the ceiling. There was plenty of seating, both at the bar and at various tables where you can sit and look out the huge glass windows. We were there from about 6:30-8:30 and the place filled up by the time we left! I know this place is walkable by a lot of people that live nearby, so I'm guessing they are pretty excited to have a new spot in the area. This place JUST opened, so I could tell they were still setting stuff up. They don't serve food and they do serve liquor, so you have to buy a membership. The lone bartender was BUSY but very nice and didn't let my glass get empty before offering another. They had two Mother Earth drafts, Highland's spring ale, Crank Arm Rickshaw Rye and maybe one other. Can/bottle selection was pretty good too - I had a Founder's Centennial and a Bear Republic Racer 5. We ended the night with a draft Rickshaw Rye, which was excellent. They also serve wine! What really got me excited about this place is they seem to have a separate game room, with a foosball table and a pool table, and lots of room to play. I love that - it's nice to be able to play some games while you're drinking. Overall, a relaxed casual space with great beer selection that would be great to meet up with a group - there is plenty of space. I will definitely be back! read more

I went to Person St Bar after an event on Thursday and really enjoyed it, well other than the really mean girl sitting next to me... From reading the reviews I can only assume the bartender that was working that night was Tom. He's a cool dude and gave great service. This is my kind of bar. It was dark, plenty of seating throughout the whole entire place, clean bathrooms, has a patio, and they serve up the good stuff. It felt like a grown person bar. There's foosball and a pool table in another room as well. I read somewhere they have Game of Thrones viewing parties, if this is true, I'll be back April 24th. Winter is coming.... read more

Cute place. Customers are friendly. I work downtown about 8 blocks from here. Until.... I waited for my drink for a good 5 minutes while the bartender paced himself. Then my guest arrived and wanted a drink. After five minutes, she waved to him for a drink. Tom the bartender said he would be with us shortly. A few more minutes passed, and she asked for a drink. The bartender started to reprimand my friend, telling her he takes everyone in turn and so HE WILL WAIT ON EVERYONE ELSE AND MAYBE WAIT ON HER AFTER THAT. Seriously? She wanted a bottle of beer. Dude, put yourself in second gear and make some tips. He was the bearded large bartender named Tom so you may want to turn around if he's there. Definitely don't tip until your entire party is served. It was embarrassing to me as a host as well. We left and walked to one of the other many restaurants who loved to wait on a few girls. Oh well. Plenty of other places where the bartender is into great service and fun for guests instead of a pretentious bartender with too high opinion of himself. Sorry Person Street. It's your rep and I am not he first to talk about it. Just didn't believe the stories until now. Maybe a little retraining is in order. The place and great customers deserve it. read more

It's a great little bar. Ahh an adult space. Lindy and I took our own brew tour around town hitting up all of our favorite spots. See what I did there. I didn't say bar hopping. That's so college. Ok I just showed my age. This is a great meet up spot for the downtown dwellers. Its located in the midst od Mordecia and Oak Wood. Its just a bike ride away from Boylan and Thompson Hunter neighborhoods. There is plenty of parking for your car or bike. It looks small from the outside, but there is plenty of space for you and your friends on the inside. The first time I walked in I was kind of amazed by the beautiful bar and eclectic decor. My favorite spot is the drinking nook to the right of the door. There are some tables, a spacious bar, foos ball and large projector screen for your sports/movie viewing pleasure. They don't serve food, but don't worry they support local food trucks and bring them to your face when the hunger strikes. Check out their FB page for the details. The major here are the local brews and craft drinks. To wet your competitive whhhistle they have friendly competitions like the upcoming Foosball Tourney. I love the retro feel of this neighborhood bar. They laid back decor, friendly staff and good music make this a keeper. There is a one time fee of $5 to become a member. Those savvy NC lawmakers spread the love. I'm sure if it were up to all bar owners they would not charge the fees. read more

The only reason I am writing this is I am sure management are aware but just don't care . Ive written this same Review on FB but now I see all of the reviews mentioning Tom the lone terrible bartender I have no qualms calling him out . I know a few of the bartenders personally there and they are fantastic . However , Tom is incredibly rude and completely unaware of his surroundings . One who prefers to flirt with the next pretty girl who walks up the bar on a Friday night and let his colleague try deal with people who have being waiting 20+ minutes and get in the weeds while he is being "personable"two two girls he doesn't know from Adam and honestly being super skeezy with them . I go to this bar at least once a week , it's my local and have been since it's opened . However , next time I go and that dude is working I am walking right back out .It is not just me being an "ass" , it is also people I go there with that feel the same . Jay, Lucius , John and Schmitty are great . Every other time I go it's like a totally different place . He really brings the place down and this is after me giving at least 5+ tries to this dude to try not suck huge melons and each time it's been a chore. I made my first trip to Raleigh recently for a close friends wedding, as my little backstory. After the wedding reception a few of us wanted to go out for a couple of drinks and celebrate. It was a Saturday night and my friend suggested this bar, thinking it wouldn't be too crowded. I generally like to visit a place more than once before making a review of it.. However I make exceptions. The bar itself is actually quite rustic and cute. Large space, really nice outdoor space with a lot of seating options, and some games to play as well. That right there would have completely won me over. I love a charming bar with a great space. I'm giving it two stars based on a couple of things. 1. The noise level. Holy. Loud. I get it, you're a bar. But the jukebox was SO alarmingly loud we opted to sit outside so we could hear each other talk. I feel old even saying this, but COME ON. The music level did not go well with the acoustics in the place or how big the space really is. 2. The bartenders were just rude. A female bartender was very rude, and dismissive. My friend asked if they had Corona and she practically scoffed at her. The male bartender wasn't much better in his manners department. Maybe I was there on an off night, but even if I make the trip back I can't say I'd go back to give it another try. read more

Terrible experience. I wanted to give this place the benefit of the doubt with all of the the negative experiences I have heard about but unfortunately I could not. A bartender literally tried to fight me. I would love to speak to management about this employees erratic behavior. This is one of the few bars open during COVID-19 but I will not be back due to my threatening experience. If anyone is thinking about going here, I would recommend standard brewing or William and company which are right near by. This understated yet stylish bar is refreshingly removed from the often far-too-rushed and occasionally overambitious Triangle bar scene. The bartenders here are also talented and charming (and kind). They do not suffer fools lightly, but when one shows up I have only seen the staff handle them with good humor and common sense. Interestingly, there is another reviewer here in this neck o' the woods who is branded Mary G. I am not that Mary G., but am in fact a Mary G. This Mary G. simply has a far less irritable countenance. Let me explain: I only know dark-haired, large, bearded bartender Tom as a bartender. By this I mean I do not know Tom in any way other than as the superb concocter that he is when I have been his patron. And Tom is indeed a talented concocter of drink and conversation and efficiency. As Tom has been called out personally for not being too clever or caring with the patrons, and as I think highly of Tom and his fellow Person Street barkeeps, I would like to try and refute this Tom claim while also singing the praises of the Person Street Bar on the whole. [*Concocter (plural concocters): One who, or that which, concocts.] I have never known a more gracious, amusing and eagle-eyed bartender than Tom. He has exceptional bartending talents and he kindness, good humor and patience personified. Patience most particularly with the other Mary G's in the world. You know the type. All that I have written is only my opinion, so you should go and see for yourselves. In summation, the Person Street Bar ambience is refreshing, the drinks superb, the location every-so-slightly off the heavily-trod Raleigh bar scene path. And Tom? This bar is such a great place to have drinks great conversation. A friend and I stopped here after dinner to grab a drink before heading home. It was a Tuesday night and I was surprised how lively it was. The bar is located in a small center of the newly development person street neighborhood. There's a bakery and some other cool places in the center. Person street bar reminds me of the local neighborhood bars in Philadelphia or Chicago. There's a juke box and plenty of seating. The selection of drinks ranged from beers to wine. They don't serve food but who needs that there. That place is off the beaten path of noisy streets like glen wood south. Four star review because I have not yet been there past 6pm. (Although I will try!) It is a quiet spot to watch the sun sink from their back yard deck next to a little fountain, and close to Raleigh community garden. Or you can smoke (not recommended but do what ya like) on the front patio where you can drink sip of your beer for every car commuting on their way home. Poor souls. Service was consistently attentive but again, I've only been there during down times. The space is large; two side rooms, and two TVs (sigh) but one room has fooseball and an arcade game, and another with a Nickelodeon colored couch and some lovely art on the walls (might change) And any place with a jukebox is really already head and shoulders above other bars. I had a delicious mole (chocolate and chile) stout from SKA Brewing out of Colorado, and the bartender was incredibly polite when I returned later that week for another and they did not carry it. This afforded me a chance to try a local beer that was also nice. Hope to come hang with folks here later in the evening and see if wait times are that insane. read more

The first time we checked out this bar, it was awesome. REALLY friendly bartender and she was super attentive. The 2nd and 3rd times have been not so great. The second time, my wine was stale... and we were overcharged by the bartender *different one from the first time* (not by much - $4, so we didn't say anything). The 3rd time (a week later), we were overcharged by $2 this time by the same bartender. I'm not sure exactly what's going on with that but it's def turning us off on the bar. It's obviously a small amount but it's odd that the guy has done it 2x in one week. Love the atmosphere but not loving the small overcharges. read more

Our only knock is that when more people showed up it got overly loud because there are a lot of hard surfaces inside, so the noise was amplified. I've been here a few times in the past month and I really enjoy coming here. The atmosphere is really cool and they even have a nice little outside space. I would recommend trying it out on a week day first - it isn't as crowded as on a weekend but they usually tend to get a decent crowd nonetheless. It's a great date night place or a chill little spot to meet with friends and have a few drinks. My only negative comment and why I chose 4-stars is because it's very dimly lit near the seating/couches and it's also a bit tricky to find at first because it looks closed from the outside. read more

I ordered a very rare sour beer called Garcon de Ferme (made by Wicked Weed). I was super stoked as this beer is very hard to find but incredibly delicious. My $17 500 ml purchase was the last bottle in the bar & I was beyond happy to have found it! I poured half into my cup & proceeded to imbibe. I needed to use the rest room so I took my beer glass with me but left the half full bottle on my table (located outside on the patio). When I returned, I couldn't locate my bottle. When I asked the bar back, he informed me that he had thrown my half full bottle away. He didn't seem at all apologetic, but instead told me it was "a heavy bottle & had very little beer left inside." I agreed- the bottle was heavy as it was HALF FULL OF DELICIOUS BEER. He offered to purchase me another beer when I finished my first glass of Garcon de Ferme (but he couldn't "buy me a $17 bottle"). I smiled & gave him a thumbs up (as I realized I had no other option in the situation) . I soon returned & requested a $6 beer from the bar back. He spoke to the bartender & she delivered my beer. She delivered it & told me I should "keep better track of this one." I was very surprised & put off to say the least by her attitude & lack of any type of culpability in the situation. I said "pardon me" as I hoped I had misunderstood her comment. She repeated that I should keep better track of my beverage. I explained that although I'd taken my beer to the restroom, I'd left my half full bottle on the table. She was very rude & cold to me during the entire transactions, as was the bar back. Clearly they felt that my remaining $9 of beer was trash since I wasn't holding it in my hand for the duration of the consumption. I will no longer be offering my business nor tips to this establishment. I was treated as though I was the one to make a mistake. I was never offered an apology for the mistake, a partial refund, and i was made to feel that my concern was a valid one. I was made to feel that it was my fault that the bar back threw away my half full bottle of very expensive/very rare beer. This could have literally been the last bottle of Garcon de FERME available in the entire state. Not only did they act like this beer was on par with any standard light beer, they also treated me (the paying/tipping customer) as though I had created the situation. Save your money for establishments that respect customers as persons. read more

Oh look, a neighborhood bar, in a neighborhood, in Raleigh! This place has been longly anticipated by the folks who work and play downtown as a refuge from the young swarms of the college aged binge drinking elite who swarm the streets on a quest to inebriated existentialism. The lineup of bartenders, bar-backs, and door-folks are predominately long standing members of the tight knit Raleigh service industry with probably over a hundred years of experience between them all. They have done this before, and they are here to do it well at Person Street. The layout of the bar is open and airy, and the furniture choices will allow for organic evolution of the space. The bathrooms are large, well lit, well stocked and clean. The game room off to one side dawns a flat screen television for sports stuff, there is a brand new pool table and foosball. There is a small little nook on the polar opposite end of the bar that would be great for a small group to relax that is tucked in a corner out of the way from constant foot traffic. One of the best elements of Person Street is the service well cut into the middle of their bar, allowing patrons to step up and grab a drink without hovering over and in-between folks sitting at the bar. The upcoming roll-away along with the gentlemens' rail in the front window is going to be amazing during the summer time as will the back patio once they are completed. Outdoor seating and available free parking, this place has a lot of good going on for it. The bar is well stocked with quality booze, bottles and cans of beer and a row of local drafts. They do not serve food so by law you are required to purchase a membership, which they offer for life, for a measly $5.
