Missy and I dressed as two members of the Beatles.
    Lucinda A.

When my beloved Missy passed, I was shattered in a way I didn't know was possible. Enter Pina and Welly Jr.; and my life changed forever. I honestly would not be here, or in a good place, if it weren't for them. Pina didn't just counsel me through my grief; she held space for my love, my sorrow, and my healing in the most compassionate, authentic way. I will forever be thankful to Missy for bringing Pina into my life. Pina helped me ride the waves of loss instead of drowning in them. My family saw the transformation in me; how I processed the grief with intention and heart, and they now donate yearly to Pina's nonprofit, Mission Wellington, which supports animals on Skid Row. It's been five years since Missy crossed the Rainbow Bridge, and still, Pina reaches out on my birthday, Missy's gotcha day, and even the anniversary of Missy's passing. That level of thoughtfulness is rare and deeply meaningful. When Missy died, we were struggling financially after paying for her chemo and surgery. Pina offered a sliding scale and even gifted me sessions during a time I couldn't afford care. She was always upfront about not taking insurance, which I respected. Her work is personal, transformative, and worth every dollar. I learned so much through our work together lessons in grief, love, and moving forward while still holding on. My mom and I even went to Pina's home to help fill goodie bags for Mission Wellington. That's the kind of heart-centered community she builds. If you are navigating the devastating loss of a beloved pet, I cannot recommend Pina enough. She is truly doing sacred work, and I am endlessly grateful.

We lost our 14 year old Frenchie / Boston Terrier mix (Bibi Ferreira Gordon) seven weeks ago after a protracted battle with endothelial carcinoma. Despite years of treatment -- when it came time to do the difficult thing and euthanize her -- we were overwhelmed by how profoundly we experienced Bibi's loss. My wife found Pina on Yelp while trying to make sense of her feelings. With Pina's guidance, my wife developed a language to describe what she was going through and directed her grief into a memorial for our lost pet. I asked to be included in a session with them. Pina was thoughtful and respectful. She walked us through writing exercises that brought us to tears, but also left us feeling satisfied, if not pleased, that we had constructed a beautiful testament to the life of our Bibi. For that, I am very grateful.

My husband and I have met with Pina for one long meeting so far and it was so wonderful to find her. Our sweet Puppy Archie was hit by a car instantly leaving us with ptsd, grief, sadness, and guilt. He was just barely 8 months old and the pain we feel with losing him so suddenly is intense. We also have two young boys who unfortunately witnessed all of this with us. Nothing can prepare anyone for something like this. Especially when we thought our adorable Archie would be with us until our boys went away to college. Pina is helping us though one step at a time through talking, exercises, and books. She's even given us tips and books to help us help our boys. Our next meeting we plan to have her work more closely with them as well. We can never get Archie back but grateful to have the tools to get us through such an awful time in our lives. I never knew something like this existed but I'm so glad that it does.

Pina is a life saver! After our first session I felt so much better. She has such a great program. I wasn't sure if I was the kind of person who needed grief counseling for a pet's death but after our session I felt such a sense of relief. Even if you don't think it's for you..if your sad or hurting give it a try!!

I lost my heart dog three months ago. It's been extremely difficult. The pain is epic and some days I just feel so lost. He was not only my best friend, but my emotional support, my teacher, my comfort on a bad day and my cheerleader on the good days. We were a team. I was "Scout's Mom". He was the way I was able to let my heart speak to the world, without having to say a word. He just made my life and the world a better place. So losing him is the loss of so many things that brought me purpose and joy. A piece of my soul left with him that day. I am so thankful to have met Pina and learnt that there was something available for people like me. I was a bit reluctant to make an appointment at first because I am not one to openly share my emotions with others. Be vulnerable, but all that washed away within the first ten minutes of our session. Pina made me feel comfortable, heard and I knew I was not alone anymore in my grief. She too has lost a heart dog so she can truly relate and has the professional skills to help me come up with coping mechanisms in this most difficult time. I am so thankful to know this is available and i look forward to our next conversation. I feel 100% comfortable recommending her to any of my friends who have or have lost a heart dog.

I'm so glad I found Pina... its been beyond rough and traumatic with my beloved cat of 15 years passing... there were times I felt like giving up because I didn't want to experience this excruciating pain anymore. Pina was beyond empathetic, kind, warm, gentle and compassionate. With my hospital bills racked high and some other debts incurred I really didn't feel I had any options in the path to healing nor did I even see healing as possible. Pina was on the phone with me for over an hour... guiding me, listening to me, sharing her journey as well as giving me some mind-blowing exercises that helped me gain a lot of perspective. My tears flowed; not from locked pain but more in the sense of releasing the pain. What she provided was very purposeful. I even love her book, "The Little Handbook of Pet Grief Support". I keep thinking as I'm reading, "Wow, this is exactly me right now! How did she know?!" Pina's essence is very nurturing and soothing. This was the best session I have ever had with any counselor/therapist in the past and I am inspired for our next session. I encourage anyone who is going through loss and grief to contact her and work with her. The questions she asks and insights she provides is stellar. It lifted a massive burden off of my chest... I feel less alone... especially at a time when I feel less than a shell of a being. Also, her generosity in working with me while I'm in a lot of debt has really touched me deep. She really has a lot of compassion and wants to help heal. She provided a lot of fair options for me and I am more than grateful. If this isn't a top notch counselor I don't know who is. Forever grateful...

My heart dog, soul mate, and best friend, Loki, died unexpectedly about a month ago. Until that time, he had always been the picture of good health. We took him to the vet for vomiting and discovered that his liver was failing. We thought we could get him the care he needed and that he would heal, but three weeks later he was gone. Even as I type this, I still can't believe this really happened. Each day is a struggle without my baby, but talking to Pina has helped me take steps toward living with my grief instead of being consumed by it. In my first couple of sessions with Pina and through reading her book, she has helped me understand more about the nature of my profound connection with Loki and how that changes after death, but doesn't completely disappear. I don't know how I'll ever get through a day without crying and feeling lost, but she has already helped me move forward with Loki in my heart. Not everyone understands the type of bond I had with Loki. He was more of a son to me than anything. I knew I needed help dealing with my pain, but was nervous about working with a counselor who talked about him as if he was just a pet when he was so much more. Pina knows exactly what I am going through. She listens and is gentle with my pain, but gives me the tools I need to move forward. I feel like I am getting exactly the help I was hoping for. If you are struggling through the loss of your heart dog, I highly recommend reaching out to Pina.

Tessa, healthy and happy at the beach in Malibu

Most of us don't know about pet bereavement counseling. I actually just learned what this entails when I met Pina De Rosa, a licensed pet bereavement counselor, animal philanthropist and professional dog sitter. For the past several years Pina took incredible and compassionate care of our sweet pug, Tessa when we were out-of-town. This is when she told me about her Pet Bereavement Counseling services. It wasn't until this past weekend, however, that I found I actually needed to enlist her services when our beloved Tessa had sudden respiratory failure and died in an emergency animal hospital. The trauma of this sudden incident and the profound pain in my heart prompted me to reach out to Pina for support. She provided me a counseling session where she brought coping skills to my attention in the most heartfelt, caring and compassionate way. Pina is a great listener. She asked me meaningful questions and had me do some writing that helped me get to my inner most feelings to help me on a healthy and spiritual grief journey. Many tears were shed and I feel like I'm on the road to honoring Tessa, my pugalicious lover girl, in the most meaningful, loving way. Pina cares deeply about animals. Through her personal experiences losing her furry loved ones, she started a non-profit called "Treats for Pups". https://www.treatsforpups.com/ This amazing organization provides dog and cat care packages for homeless people with pets living on the streets. You can watch a video here https://youtu.be/k4o1YIYKmy8 According to Pina, tragically more than 95% of shelters will not give a place to sleep to a homeless person with a pet!! This is where her services kick in providing bags with such things as food, bowls, blankets, and other necessities to help animals stay warm and fed. Pina is an exceptional, professional and compassionate human being. If you are facing grief over the loss of a beloved pet and could use support, I highly recommend you reach out to her. In addition, if you love animals and are horrified that many people choose to live on the streets so that they don't need to give up living with their pets, you may wish to make a donation to Treats for Pups.

Twelve years ago, my girlfriend and I adopted a little tuxedo cat, after his owner abandoned him. I was always a dog-person but there was something special about this cat. He looked like a "Sam", so that's what we called him - formally, Samson. Along with lots of love, we made sure Sam got the healthiest food and vet exams every six months. Tragically, that was not enough to protect him from developing cancer. Sam stopped eating last December and needed to be sustained by an esophageal feeding tube. A biopsy, performed a month later during surgery to place a stent below his liver, came back positive for small cell lymphoma. After a month of round-the-clock feedings; chemotherapy treatment; multiple medicines and supplements, Sam's body couldn't fight the disease anymore. It was time to help him finally rest. Watching Sam's health decline over the previous three months, still did not prepare me for what I was about to experience. I felt sadness and guilt, along with physical symptoms of fatigue; nausea and loss of appetite. I cried so hard that sometimes I couldn't even catch my breath. I never felt anything close to this, even after my father's death. I knew that I needed help fast and was fortunate to find Pina's listing. It was after 4:00pm on a Saturday when I texted her. She promptly replied and we spoke by telephone, shortly after. Pina was very compassionate and scheduled us for the next day. Although she offers telephone sessions, we opted to meet her in person. I felt hope and strength after our conversation, knowing I just needed to get through one more night. Our first session was productive. Pina walked us through helpful writing exercises, that we continued at home. She suggested a book to read before our next session. Pina also prepared us with a way to memorialize Sam's earthly presence in our home, when we brought his remains back from the crematory. The days following our session were difficult but we grew stronger and memories or photos that brought tears before, now were starting to bring smiles. We had a second session with Pina the following Sunday to reinforce our healing and are steadily coping with the loss of Sam. Pina's counseling gave us hope in the days following Sam's death and still provides us with healthy ways to navigate the grieving process.

We felt lost, exhausted, and terrified for him. We had nowhere to go and no idea what to do next. Angela stepped in with availability, empathy, and a solution-focused approach that quite honestly held our entire family together. She helped us create a path forward when we couldn't see one. She understood that as parents, we needed to exhaust every possible option before making the harder decisions. Our hearts were broken, and we struggled to let go, and she honored that. She moved at the pace of our emotions while always keeping our son's safety at the center of every decision. She never shamed us, never rushed us, and never dismissed how painful the process was. Instead, she balanced compassion with clarity in a way that allowed us to move forward when we were finally ready. She held our hands and hearts through the entire process. We are still a work in progress as a family, but we are stronger and wiser now. We better understand how to support our son without interrupting his growth process. I paid a $7,650 upfront deposit as instructed in order to coordinate an intervention for my mom - something I was told needed to happen "immediately" because she was at her rock bottom. What made the situation worse was the complete lack of follow-up, support, or any offer of a partial refund, despite the fact that nothing was ever carried out. At the time, I was 26 years old, paying out of my own savings, trying desperately to help my mother. Instead of feeling supported, I was left feeling taken advantage of, financially and emotionally. I understand that not every situation goes as planned, but the absence of integrity, communication, and accountability in this process was devastating. I would strongly caution anyone considering working with this company. I hope you enjoyed a free $7,650 to your bank account, Angela. 5 years later I cannot get over the money you stole from me. Shame on you.
