I love this store. Im shying away from 5 stars, however, because I am a firm believer in Hill's Science Diet, which they carry, so I am not experienced in all their other "junk" foods that are in previous posts. I do, however, make sure I check expiration dates on my food since reading these posts, but have had no problems. My only complaint about the place is the parking, in the biggest problem being 3 front parking spots are also on the walkway (my boxer and I had a couple close calls with people flying blindly into one of the spots on the walkway). Other than that, excellent service, and absolutely the lowest prices on Science Diet puppy food, which is important to me because my puppy, I am convinced, has a vacuum somewhere in her esophagus!! read more

Every. Single. Time I've been in here (maybe like 4-6), I have dealt with the nicest, most unpretentious, most helpful, calm, relaxed, easy-going folks who are genuinely interested in your customer needs. I am writing this review (my 2nd of 2 reviews ever) because I just went this past weekend and encountered four different employees while walking around the store with my two dogs... and ALL FOUR OF THEM actually enhanced my experience in a way that even took me by surprise. I'm a consumer who doesn't like to be bothered -- I want to walk in, don't speak to me, literally don't even greet me, definitely don't ask me if I'm "finding everything I'm looking for", don't even look at me, but somehow happen to be on hand if I do need you -- so I'm a grump who wants reactive but not proactive customer service. Which was exactly what I have consistently experienced with the current staff, and when I had a spontaneous question or needed advice, they were right there, like Harry Potter apparition, like I didn't have to walk around yelling "Hello" into the backroom abyss, and every one of the people who helped me was genuinely pleasant and interested. Also very competitive prices and well-timed sales for the few things I buy my dogs (that's just good luck though). But the customer service is what I respect. I live in Berkeley closer to Pet Club Emeryville now, but I waited until I happened to be in Marin to go to this location because I recalled a good experiences, but after this last time -- I will make the drive out of my way unless my car blows up on the freeway or something. Also, I bought a new dog tag from the engraving machine for my new dog, and this tall guy with giant hands (who had earlier recommended me wet food because my new dog who just came from the shelter was blessing my home with blowout diarrhea) helped me put the ring on the tag (and my dog likes the wet food). Thank you, Giant Hands Man. They have a no returns/exchanges policy which is the only customer-unfriendly thing I can see, but they have been supremely accommodating when I've had issues -- I had bought dog harnesses that were not working out (one of them I even had taken off all the tags) and both times I was able to get solution to my satisfaction without any quibbling on my part (and I came ready to quibble). Maybe just good luck again. But I digress, this is all way more than I came on here to write. Because I just came here to say this last line: I will fight anyone who doesn't like Pet Club Corte Madera. read more

I love this store...as someone who is disabled and on a limited budget, it's wonderful to be able to still feed my beloved pets quality food for their health and longevity. They carry top brands such as Wellness, Royal Canin, Taste of the Wild, Blue, etc.,which cost ALMOST DOUBLE at the local pet shop. They also offer rescue adoptions and low-cost vaccination clinics, micro-chip is only ten dollars. I really appreciate their low costs for people like myself as well as others who do much for abandoned or catch/release ferrel populations. There are so many ABANDONED AND DISTRESSED ANIMALS OUT THERE. Went in today and forgot my coupon, Byron could not have been more helpful, he honored the coupon for me anyway! I've shopped in the aquarium section - who knows maybe the rest is better but..... Very dirty store, Very unpleasant staff and lots of dead fish. I try to support local businesses but I just can't support this one. I really tried coming back again to give them another chance but it's pointless, they're just seem like they don't care about anything in there and are annoyed at your very presence. When I ignore the funk and the somewhat rundown nature of the store in general, I am greeted with reasonable to truly low prices on all the pet goods I could shake a stick at, and then ask to go fetch. Okay, bad jokes aside, I get my natural food and natural treats, natural litter, and clever little toys from Pet Club. Often times, I get all this goodness for up to fifteen dollars less than I would at Petco. The staff is comprised of oddballs, but they've always been helpful. Sometimes they sell out of items early in the week because whoever does the ordering kinda sucks, but otherwise, within a week's time, I've never had difficulty procuring any good I've needed for my kitties. read more

I have never had a problem walking into this store and buying dog or cat food. However, what's the deal with the fish department? Nine times out of ten when I go there to buy something, the fish guy has "gone home" or is "on break." It is SOOOO bizarre. I wish I could figure out where else in Marin I could buy fish and supplies for my saltwater aquarium. The other day I was there and wanted to buy a fish, but no one knew what to charge or even what any of the fish were, so I couldn't buy anything. Too weird. Pet Club is by far the most resonable for all cat food & supplies. I shop the one in San Bruno. Own three inside cats & feed a colony of ferals. If you are complaining on price your nuts. Buy Fancy Feast four cases at a time when they go on sale. A can is less than half the price of other stores. They carry natural products as well. Also, a secret they will order if they don't have the product. Someone said they don't offer correct advice. They are not vets they are a good discount retail store. The dates are also always good on cans/kibble. What is the compliant? If you ask them to please start carrying products they will try & accomodate. Pet Club four stars....... read more

I have been buying all my dog and cat supplies here for years. The prices just cannot be beat and that means alot if you have many pets :) A visit to Petco reminded me of just why I go to PetClub instead. The prices for food and litter are significantly less. This is really an awful store, but I'm giving it 2 stars only because they have lower prices than the other pet stores in Marin and they have a good selection. I stopped going there years ago mainly due to the HORRIBLE customer service and the general grunginess of the place. The employees are a total joke, complete idiots for the most part and unbelievably rude. Where do they find these people, and why do they give them retail jobs? Yesterday I decided to give them another try. While in the cat food aisle, I reached up to try to grab some cans of food but had trouble reaching around the employee who was sitting on the floor directly in front of the food. This little man with glasses and a permanent snarl (I recognized him from years ago) refused to budge. Without being able to adequately see what I was grabbing I got a few cans of food and some treats and went to check out. So far, very unimpressed. The young checkout girl with rainbow hair was actually really friendly and competent. Getting better. But then today when I went in to return some of the cans of food that I had blindly grabbed off the shelf the day before (turns out I grabbed the wrong flavor for my finicky cat), and a couple of bags of treats that my cat didn't like, the s$&t hit the fan. I went to the cashier and told her I'd like to exchange 5 cans of cat food for a different flavor and return two bags of treats. Seems fairly simple, right? The woman tells me they don't accept returns on pet treats. I tell her that seems ridiculous and that they should post a sign telling customers that. I never would have bought 3 bags of treats had I known. Then she starts getting nasty telling me she doesn't argue with customers. By now I'm really getting pissed off, and I tell her I'm not leaving without a refund and that I won't be shopping there again. She says, "it doesn't matter because we have the lowest prices." I ask for the manager, and she tells me there is no manager there. Just then a much more well-adjusted guy comes to the register and tells this lunatic of a woman that the policy is that they don't take back opened bags of treats. Since mine weren't open I could return them. The woman glares at me without apologizing, and the guy takes me to another register now "manned" by the little jerk with the glasses. The nice guy tells him to refund me, which he reluctantly does. Without a word, a smile, a thank you or a "please come again," the jerk starts ringing up the next customer. When I ask if he could please put my replacement cans of food in a bag, he literally throws them into the bag and just leaves them on the counter, not bothering to hand them to me. Really nice. Please stop shopping at this place, and if you do continue to go there because you don't want to pay a little more at the nice, clean, friendly pet store (Pet Food Express), then bring your hand sanitizer and prepare to have your good mood change to vile in record time. I'd much rather pay a little more than have to deal with this crap. read more

I've been going to several pet club locations on and off for 30 yrs and while it's always been a dump the fish prices were always reasonable until a few ago. Now they are more ridiculous than Ceaser's in santa rosa. It seems that they are taking full advantage of he lack of stores that sell salt water fish. There is no way that their wholesale prices have jump high enough to justify the extortion that is currently going on. I've been to several stores in SF, Sac, and Vallejo and they are not tripling their prices on Marine fish. It is also clear that they saving the limited stock they do have for people that have fish maintenance business that buy more than hobbyists do and that, Chris the store manager, just makes up prices up on the fly to stop people from buying fish they are saving for their friends. $50 for a very small Lemon Peel angel is just complete bullshit. I just bought an Eibli Angel in Sac that is 3x the size for $29. At any rate i will be going anywhere else other than Pet Club to buy fish and supplies. I don't care how far I have to drive. The corporate office clearly doesn't give shit about any of their stores because they have all been in the same state of disrepair since the 80's. read more

The reviews here are accurate. This is a unique store in Marin - very inexpensive - I get sticker shock whenever I go to a "regular" pet store. Yes, the staff is generally unfriendly and not knowledgeable - they get paid $9 an hour - what are you expecting? Yes, the store is odorous. No I would never buy a live creature there. However, I probably save $5 a week (that's $260 a year) on food and litter for my two cats. Well worth the slight side trip that is required. read more

I went to my local Pet Club in Corte Madera to buy Ecunuba Dog Food. Surprisingly all the price tags were removed. I bought what is usually $33.00 I put it on debit. At checkout they asked if I wanted my receipt. I said yes this time. The price was now $43.00. I will be looking for a different dog food store. read more

I love Pet Club! Sounds like a bunch of snotty Marinites wrote most of these reviews but everyone knows you ask for Byron when you need help and Juan if you need help with fish. They are the go to guys here. Robert has not been happy since Mama Chi Chi, the store cat died. If you are nice to him, he is nice to you. If you give him an attitude, he gives it right back. I've been going to the Pet Club in Corte Madera for about 20 years. I think it's fantastic and always have liked the prices, the products, and the people working there! I've purchased all kinds of cat food, dog food, cat litter, cat furniture, cat & dog toys, brushes, leashes, collars, food bowls, cards, t-shirts, etc. If I can't find something, one of their employees will always help me find it. They are great at the cash register and great with carryouts. I'm a happy friendly down to earth person, and no one has ever been surly to me. They've always been friendly and helpful. Each time I shop there, I spend $150 - $200. It used to be more, but I don't have as many pets as I did ten years ago. I'll keep going to the Pet Club until I'm too old to drive! read more

The best prices in town regarding pet supplies. The things that does bother me is that they also sell junk. What I mean by junk is that they are in the business to make money not sell you the best product for your animal. If you don't know what you are buying you could end up hurting your pet. Listen to your vet about things like flea control and proper brands of food. The cheapest thing is rarely the best thing or even a good thing for your pet when it comes to these things. Prices are hands-down the best I've found in Marin, and their hours are terrific - very accommodating for those with longer work days. Have only had to return an item once in 4 years, and they were very gracious about it. Once you know what's where, it's easy to zip in and zip out fast. This is a family owned and operated store. It's a Pet store not Nordstrom. It has a great variety, good pricing they hire local help. Some have special needs. If shoppers are not able to see this then they need to stay over in Berkeley. The stores with perfect lighting and shiny tiled floors and pristine smells also charge 30-40% more for the same products. Pet food is expensive even when discounted. I appreciate the break in price when I can get it and I obviously don't need coddling when I shop for pet food as I like this store and the others that are family owned in Marin. There is a local following here and we are not so uptight about shopping at a pet store. read more
