Anytime I need quality food and treats for my rescue dog, I go to Pet Food Express. It's nice to know they include plant-based items. I'm so proud of this store for not exploiting, commodifying, or selling animals. I hope people will also let them know they are glad they do not contribute to the cruel practice of overbreeding animals for pet stores that lead to tens if not hundreds of thousands of animals being needlessly euthanized every year. Super clean store and fantastic customer service! I went an hour before closing on Sunday (6pm) for their pet wash service. Has about 6-8 tubs, I don't remember exactly but I love how big it is! Other stores feel really crammed but this has a nice spacious feel. Enough space between each tubs to comfortably clean your pet. You need a token to use the wash service, if you buy 3 you get 1 for free. They actually have that deal for anything in the store. Including treats. But you can't mix and match categories. Has to be the same. So like buy 3 bags of treats from the same brand, get 1 free. They always have this deal. Anyways, 1 token gets you 25 mins. They allow you to bathe two dogs at a time but you just have to manage your time accordingly between the rinse, lather, and dry time. They used to give you an extra token if you needed more dry time but they've stopped. Thankfully their towels are super absorbent. So while my two doodles don't get 100% dry, they leave the store about 80% dry. Then I open the windows and let them finish drying on the car ride home. But the best thing about this store is how knowledgeable their manager is! I found out Pet Food Express made their own brand called Fog City Pet. I've purchased their travel size shampoo at the Fremont location and they didn't even tell me that it was their own brand. Super cool to know. I also was looking for a smaller bottle of salmon oil and the dog section only had huge size bottles. When I asked about this the manager informed me and redirected me to the cat section where they have the same exact product just smaller size. It was the same ingredients and brand, just smaller in size cause it's catered to cats but perfect size for me so I purchased it. It was the Grizzly brand and they had a 20% off sale for it, which the manager also informed me of. I didn't get his name but he definitely needs a raise. Excellent service! The store is separated into a dog and cat section. Petfood express doesn't have the best selection of collars, leashes, or accessories. Their main focus is really the food and treats. They also aren't nationwide. And their return policy is great. You can return an open bag of treats or food if your dog didn't like it. I've never actually returned anything since any food items I've purchased my dogs ended up loving. They really focus on quality over quantity and supporting local businesses. Big parking lot located next to Safeway and Bart station. I was only near the area since I went to Point Isabel with my dogs but wish the Petfood Express near me has the same service. It sounds strange but I was dazzled. I had gone to pick up cat food which I ordered online and wandered through the store because it had such an inviting feel to it. The prices were good, the store was clean, and the shelves were full. It was a pre-pandemic experience of the joy of in-store shopping. The staff was warm, welcoming, and helpful. Jessica was a delight- she promptly brought my online order and instead of leaving, I found myself drawn to look around. This store has customer service DOWN! They are seriously impressive. I now go out of my way to come here. It seems like the management does a great job selecting folks who are friendly, outgoing and earnestly wanting to help. I started coming here to give my dirty dog a bath after a muddy trip to the dog park. I ended up looking around and finding something else to buy. One of the employees greeted me and my pup, asking if there was anything in particular I was looking for. She literally walked me around to various areas, after listening to my needs. She ended up suggesting a long-lasting chew toy that was perfect! My dog LOVED it and spent a couple hours that evening occupied (and not bugging us). Months later it's still a fave. I've experienced this one other time, and witnessed other customers getting similar treatment. If you want to be left alone, no one will bug you, but they're there to help/advise if needed. The baths are used by many other dogs, so not exactly pristine, but they're cleaned regularly. I love the single sprayer with shampoo and rinse, then blow dry feature with ample clean towels. They even went into lockdown mode (locked front door) when my naughty pup tried to run away. Overall most impressed!! read more

My frenchie baby has some sensitive skin allergies. Stella and Chewys Beef & Salmon freeze dried pattys are among the only commercial brand puppy food that doesn't aggravate her sensitive skin. Matthew, the manager, doesn't seem to have any shame in ruthlessly trying to get customers to buy outside of their comfort zone. Every time I come in I'm pressured to buy more items even when I've repeatedly said I was fine. I've also witnessed how condescending and rude he is to his employees. Absolutely amazing staff. I've been here a handful of times now and every time I've visited the staff has been so helpful and tentative. This most recent time, I went in to purchase a new shedding tool for my dog and didn't exactly know which one to get since I felt like I've tried it all! Then, here comes my savior, a staff member who asked me if I had any questions. I told her my situation and she jumped into action. It was super helpful that she knew was familiar with the breed of my dog and was able to make excellent recommendations! Other staff members was also amazing, I had a coupon for some dog food, and even though I've screen shot the coupon to be scanned, but the way I screen shot the coupon was very fuzzy and even though it was legible to the human eye, the register was not scanning it. I started to give up because it was my fault for not paying more attention, but the staff members help found a way to validate and use my coupon. I also overheard them helping other customers. if they didn't have something the customers were looking for, they have no hesitation recommending other places. I wish there was something else I can do show them my appreciation. but I hope by writing this, people will look and decide to come in. read more

I go to this location even though I live in SF. We are in San Pablo a lot and I like the customer service at this store. My wife and I went to look for a harness and leash for our puppy pug and bought him with us. Carina helped us and she was wonderful. She recommended a great harness that I should be able to use for a while before he grows out of it. She even let him try it on.Also she said I should just get a regular leash for now until he's been out for walks for awhile.So after we get used to going for walks I will go back to get him the leash I wanted.I give all my business to this store if possible. Please let me explain why I'm giving this store 1star. I went in one day recently looking for a few items. I was greeted by Maya, she is fairly new and very awesome with really great work ethic. I would really like to say the same about leader of the store......MATHEW.... But I can't. I have worked in retail and this is the kind of person that should never be given power. Mathew, you suck at your job and should find another path preferably one that doesn't involve working with people. Let me continue what I experienced, after being greeted by Maya and ignored by the manager I waited patiently. As Mya tried to help me and greet everyone that walked in through the door, answered questions ran back and forth, rang people up, answered the phone.....this is all happening while the manager... Yes you Mathew..... is leisurely helping one customer..... and finally as Maya tried helping me with a specific item, she asked Mathew a question.... I was disgusted by his Condescending, belittling and Misogynistic tone.... If I was his boss, I would do all the employees a favor and tell Mathew to take a long unpaid vacation. That of course wasn't the first time I witnessed this behavior from him. I ended up leaving and going back another day. I wasn't very happy about my time being wasted... but maybe it wasn't time wasted after all.... I'm waiting this fantastic review. The service I received at this location was amazing! All of the employees were very friendly and made me feel comfortable. I am a first time dog mom so I had A LOT of questions. Mari assisted me that day and she was such a huge help! With all the questions I asked, she did NOT seem annoyed or in a rush at all. Her knowledge and confidence made me feel at ease. She told me about the buy 3 treats deal and all the other deals around the store as well. I was with my pup who is about 9 weeks and she was able to give recommendations for him. She also gave him some treats that he absolutely loved, so we ended up buying a bag of that too! Mari also gave us a sample of food for JJ, which definitely made my day!! What a great place to shop. They treat pets like royalty, have great prices, a great selection, a clean store and delightful and truly helpful staff that seem to really love their jobs. I went by today to buy batteries for the light collars we bought for nighttime walks. Not only did they replace the batteries but when I tried to pay for them they said that they replace the batteries as a customer service. That's what I call service!!! And my review wouldn't be complete without a shoutout to Stephanie for her quick turnaround on the batteries - she actually spotted me as I walked in and offered to replace the batteries. This review is for the self wash. It was my first time here and the people at the register walked me through the process. You first pay prior to using the self wash. Calling around this is one of the better self-wash deals as they have a buy 3, get one free wash. Each wash is $15 which includes the choice of 3 different shampoos, warm water, a blow dry, 4 large towels, an apron, and to my surprise there were treats! So the person who helped me was super helpful as she walked me to the back and explained the entire process to me. She even spotted a wash area that still had time on it (you get 25 minutes of wash time, which is plenty enough). The sink/wash space was big enough for my 70+lb labra doodle to easily get in. I am a petite Asian and I didn't have to bend down to stretch much. Ergonomic baths are a plus! Meat treats are another huge plus! Great customer service and I am sold! This is a convenient location next to Safeway and BART. The employees here are really nice and helpful. When my cat was pregnant they loaded me up with everything to make her super healthy. My cat went crazy for the goats milk they sell, and I would have had no idea it was good for pregnant cats. The prices are a little high, but they have a great selection of high quality food for my dog and cat. Good gifts for pet owners as well, they sell gourmet treats and cat grass bouquets. Most of the products are better to order or Amazon price wise, but I like to hear employee opinions on the products. read more
