What an amazing place! My very first venture here was to go to an adoption event for Go Beyond Rescue. How amazing is it that Pet Food Express built a whole area in the front of their store so a rescue organization can hold adoption events every weekend! So heartwarming. I did adopt a dog that day.. Upon adopting my little girl, I was given a coupon for Pet Food Express so I could purchase some supplies to start us off on our adventure together. At the register, the cashier asked me if I had adopted a dog that day. I answered yes, and he was so excited and wanted to come outside where she was to meet her. His genuine warmth and love for animals was so heartwarming. This was the icing on the cake, not only do they host adoption events but they really do care for animals. We came by recently because the Pet Food Express near us (Laurel Village) closed about a year ago and i still haven't gotten over it. (Crying emoji) It used to be super convenient to get my baby a self service pet wash every other month (I get him a grooming appointment every other month), now it's a hassle. The Petsmart across the way (near Target) has the worst water pressure. Okay if you have a huge dog, but for smaller breed, it's craziness. I felt like I was having a water fight with my pup. Anyhow, a few weeks ago, I brought him over here to the Stonestown Pet Food Express to then find out they DON'T have self service pet wash here. (Sigh) The staff here were super nice tho and even gifted me a gift for our trouble. We got some treats for our pup instead. read more

I still love Pet Food Express! I've noticed that this location hosts a lot of adoption events for Beyond Rescue, and it's such a nice, visible way to get people interacting with the dogs. It makes me so happy to see the foster parents and volunteers advocating for their pups! Moving on to the store itself. It's always weirdly empty when I'm there. The last time I was there I wanted to attend the treat sampling event, not realizing it wasn't actually an event so much as a free but very small, forgettable souffle cup of a couple of treats. I asked one of the cashiers at the front and she seemed confused, but then went to the back and pulled out a cart and set up the "event". I honestly felt so bad making her do all that just for a tiny paper cup of treats lol! So just FYI, it's really not an event even though the website advertises it as one. I have never been to this particular pet food express, and I didn't know they had a parking lot around the back. Lol I somewhat double parked in the loading zone but I was just getting some quick canned food and two treats for my puppies after walking all over Ocean Beach and lands end. The employees at this particular pet food express were incredibly sweet and asked if they could give my puppies a treat. I asked if they could have them do a trick like "shake their hand "and then my larger dog decided to nuzzle up to the lady with his giant nose! Do NOT order pet food to be delivered from this company. After spending 40 minutes ordering and waiting a few hours for a delivery the WRONG items were delivered. Delivery done by no English speaking person. What an absolute mess! I have had a recent hip replacement surgery and this was phenomenally complicated and handled in a poor manner. I live alone and my apartment is up 30 stairs. Patrick in customer service COMPLETELY lacked ANY empathy skills. Just now I spoke with Lindsay, the supervisor. She thought it made up for the whole mess to give me one free can and not charging for delivery. I would be embarrassed to offer a customer a single free can. As a mediator, I found her reply to my comment about not offering anything meaningful for all of this inconvenience, to be genetic. "I'm sorry you feel that way." I would have spent over $50 but they were out of stock. Very Macy's like. Had it been Nordstrom's, and they had inconvenienced a good customer, I would have gotten a significant discount. Message is they don't need delivery business. Interesting because I am a long term shopper there and they often talk about their delivery service. read more

After a rainy day I made the mistake of taking my dog to the Vallejo dog park. He became 50% mud. Luckily Pet Food Express has a self service dog washing station that was still open at 6pm. Buy a token. The cashier gives you a green plastic collar if you ask for one. Put on an apron. Guide your dog up the steps and it's almost like Seven Flags Car Wash self service. Clip him to one of the multiple ties. Press the buttons and hose him off. Dry him off with the air blower. For $18 it's a great deal not having to deal with the clean up of washing your dog at home. They even have a bowl of treats. I haven't had a chance to browse their selection of products but from what I saw it's much more extensive than Petco and Petsmart. read more

Honestly a 4.5 rating! My only complaint is that this one has no restrooms for clients. A real perk for me is that they offer real deals on Clearance & offer affordable vet clinic services thru PET VIP which usually Offers coupons that are available online & is a great company in general. Staff are very attentive & the small location offers many items compared to other ones. The real winner of my high review is that this shop has a "FENCED IN YARD " aka a micro dog park! Today I was panicking my Fur Baby had a Hernia and a spay operation yesterday. We were doing great until this morning , my Baby did not want to eat , I pulled all the tricks I know to feed her buy no way she was going to eat they had mentioned that they have placed a tube in her mouth while she was under and it might cause irritation so that might be the cause. I ran to Pet Food Express and I was so Lucky they were not busy and a really nice young lady assisted me. She patiently showed me everything I asked for . This is our Happy Place! I have come here so many times to get help for my sweet older pup who needed special food due to chronic kidney disease. EVERYONE here is amazing-- each of the staff, who I have seen in countless visits, is amazingly kind, caring, warm, compassionate, AND knowledgable about what foods, treats, etc are best to try. My pup loved every visit here, too, because everyone was so kind to him and gave him love and treats. It is always a joy to come here, not just to get the best food, treats, supplements, toys, etc but also to get to engage with the kindest and most capable staff I cannot say enough how amazing they are here. Guest services is just amazing. I came in because my pup has been having diarrhea for the past 2 days and I was looking for something to help him. I asked this really nice associate and told him the issue. He suggested some probiotic mixings that come in a small packet to sprinkle onto my dogs food. However I was looking for this bottle of syrup. He helped me find the bottle and what luck, other 3 bottles left. Their online inventory system is pretty accurate too. I came here after Petco on Sloat ran out. And they even gave me those 2 packs of probiotic for free! I'm very happy with their service. read more

This is a late post. It was started a while back & forgotten. Completing now. We love PFE... no really... we rather shop at PFE than shop online because they always have everything we need & the ppl there are always helpful & friendly... EXCEPT TODAY!!!! Sad & disappointing!!! My husband & I were running errands today on our way to San Bruno when we decided to stop at the Stonestown PFE on the way since we need a bunch of stuff. When we entered, we were greeted with a "welcome" over the air... not sure who said it, but we answered "thanks". I went the the cat food section while my husband proceeded to the dog food. Not more than 5 minutes had gone by when I hear my husband's voice in a tone of distress. As I walk towards him I immediately recognized what was going on. He was being profiled as an African American for no other reason but for the color of his skin. It was even more perplexing since this came from another person of color. Before anyone thinks that "oh no, PFE ppl are always so nice, it must be a misunderstanding"... let me assure everyone that when you've been profiled for over 1/2 a century... you KNOW instinctively when it is happening. Back to the story... what happened was as my husband was looking at the "just for dogs" chicken chews, Ahmed stood behind him not saying a word for minutes. When my husband turned around & said "yes?" Ahmed replied "how may I help you?" So my husband thought "ok I'll bite" & replied " can you read this label for me?" Ahmed replied "how may I help you?" again. What? So my husband returned a "no, how may I HELP you?" Ahmed just kept repeating "how may I help you?" By this point, it was obvious to my husband what's going on. Ahmed was the gatekeeper & meant to keep out whoever he deemed undesirable or unworthy or suspicious. We've done business with PFE for over 2 decades, never has this ever happened to us. So my husband angrily told off Ahmed. Another checker witnessed the exchange & immediately offered apologies to my husband because she knew what had just transpired was so wrong. She called the manager Cary to speak with us. Cary came over to access the situation and we explained what happened to him. He had Ahmed come over to join the conversation. Ahmed was defensive & said that it was his job to ask how he could help their customers. We said no, helping a customer does not mean to hover silently behind then for an extended period of time without saying a thing, then only offer help when you've been caught profiling. There were a number of customers he could have helped, yet he laser focused his attention on the only black person in the room. Cary was initially apologetic, but fell short & failed to acknowledge what Ahmed did was wrong. Cary was 1/2 way between being defensive & showing attrition. We left the store without buying anything & drove to Petco down the way. We spent almost $100 there. So PFE, your lost. read more

Pet Food express is a wonderful company, but this store might just beat the best location... I'm a dog trainer in Bay Area and I buy items in bulk... like 300 bags of wild weenies kind of bulk! This location and especially our friend Delaney has been so kind and helpful to us with our excessive orders! Every time I have walked into this store I have always been greeted with excited enthusiasm and genuine kindness. Simply not something you receive reliably from most chain retail shops. This location and its employees are kind of like stumbling on your own private fan club... no I'm not exaggerating. I've watched countless encounters between staff and customers who needed some help with equipment or finding a new food etc. No one one this team ever makes you feel as if you should know better, or that your training tool of choice is wrong... which is unfortunately common at pet stores. As a trainer I try to support my local stores as much as possible. However sometimes I've learned that after sending a client to shop for a training tool that they were scolded or shamed for buying the very tool the shop sells! Never at this pet food express. I have heard nothing but incredibly positive feedback from the folks that work at this store. They simply go above and beyond. And let's face guys... these people are essential workers and really deserve our appreciation! Walk through these doors and I dare you to be met with anything less than a fantastic experience. This evening I received the most wonderful service from Rae: This was my first visit to this store, although I've been to the one on Market St. many times in the last two months. I told the gal at the front door that I needed a lot of help with my puppy, and Rae was called to meet me. The first thing she did was introduce pup (who was sitting on a towel in their cart) to a "No Hide", which might seriously change my life. While he was happily munching, she chatted with me for nearly an hour, addressing all my questions, from behavioral to feeding to crate training. When others charge upwards of $150/hour to chat doggie, this is much appreciated! She also hooked pup up with all sorts of goodies and treats for him to try, to see what he likes best. I'm all for supporting family owned businesses. Every time I stop by, I usually bring my dog and the staff is so friendly. They started doing test trials on local deliveries and I think that's great! Some days are busier for me, this just saves me a trip even if i'm less than a 10 min drive away. I highly recommend trying it out because there are time slots for you to choose from, they send notifications of whom the driver will be, and another notification indicating it has been delivered. The manager? Or whomever even sent me a full size small bag of dog food for my dog to try! How kind of them! read more

SO daddy bought the wrong treats for me...again. Ugh. Doesn't he know I hate sweet potatoes? Of course mommy gave him sh*t for it. So daddy had to go back to Pets Food Express to buy the correct ones. My favorites are the individually wrapped chicken jerky with NO sweet potatoes (made in the USA). PFE Stonestown is one of the best local neighborhood pet stores I've ever been to. My partner and I adopted Cooper 6 months ago and happened to walk into the stonestown location immediately after leaving the shelter. As a first time dog owner, the staff was unbelievably helpful in getting us situated. It's because of great staff at PFE like Taylor, Claire, Rae, and everyone else that we keep returning. We're big fans and love visiting the store rather than shopping at chewy or other big box pet stores. It also helps that Cooper has a BLAST every time we visit. It would be great if management looked into adding a dog wash station at this store. read more
