Absolutely great service! I was traveling with my two pets and shedding season creeped up on me! All a sudden I had a stinky car full of pet hair! I knew I needed the dogs nails clipped so I called Pet Haus for immediate help! The staff were friendly and professional. They did the nail clipping but they weren't sure if they could get my lab in for a bath. About a hour later they called me back and said they could see him. I jumped on the opportunity to get Benny in for a grooming and de-shedding. Two hours later I picked him up. They did a great job on him! He looks great and smells so clean! Today my son and I went into The Pet Haus. We've been patrons since they opened. We had our newly adopted Staffordshire terrier, he's a big boy. His ears were clipped before we adopted him. Three employees were standing behind the counter. They all just stared at us. We immediately didn't feel welcome. I asked where the pronged collars were. A smaller woman with blonde hair responded, "We don't carry those. You'll have to go somewhere else". My son and I were taken aback by the snarky and sharp response. She didn't even offer to show us any other options. We stood there for a second and left. We chose to shop at the Pet Haus over the only other pet store in town over the years, and this is how we are treated. Our newly adopted dog is two years old and pure muscle. I researched the prong collar and decided that would be the best choice for us considering I am 115 pounds and my dog is 75 pounds and has pulled me down the street on my knees several times already. I know that if you put the collar on loose so that the dog doesn't feel the prongs, and only feels them when he starts to pull, that it will be successful and you'll be able to take your dog on a pleasant walk, instead of being dragged where it's unsafe for owner, pet and whatever else the dog wants to go after. Also, I can't afford a dog trainer. After today's unpleasant incident, My Son told me that he was met with the same condescending and rude behavior just a week ago when he went in looking for a certain brand of food for our new dog. He was spoken down to instead of recommending another brand. I am so disappointed that we were judged immediately and, didn't even receive help or advice for our needs. We are no longer customers of the Pet Haus. It was a good run until recent events. This isn't how you treat any customers, especially ones that have been loyal from the beginning. read more

HORRIBLE! Do not take your dog (much less any pet) here! "Groom room" is a joke and should be called a "Chop Shop." The groomer shaved our dog down to the skin, mind you she a Great Pyrenees, which should have never happened as she has an undercoat to keep her cool in the summer. My dog was shaved down to the skin and has cuts as well as razor burn all over her body. The 'groomer' has no idea what she is doing much less cares about an animals well being. We went strait to the veterinarians after picking her up and they were horrified just looking at her. We are now paying for skin care as well as praying she doesn't get any infections. The staff were extremely rude and did not care one bit that I was upset not only about how they had shaved my dog down but they also kept her hair to 'prepare' me before bringing her out because she looked horrible! No dog owner should have to be 'prepared' to see their dog after a grooming!? You should be happy and leave with a healthy dog. I am so upset and beside myself trying to process this wrong doing. Do not take any pet to the PET HAUS unless you want your animal to come home abused and physically as well as mentally. Please do not take your animal to this grooming facility. read more

We just stopped in. We're in from out of state and our pup's paws are sore from a few days of hiking. We wanted to get some boots for him and just intended to do a quick stop. I didn't catch her name but the employee in the shop went above and beyond, even coming out to the car with a few different options because we didn't want to take him in as he gets overstimulated in new enclosed spaces. When it became obvious the boots weren't an option (he wasn't having it) she recommended an organic salve as an alternative and even sent us off with a goody bag of treats. Highly recommend this shop if you need something for your pups; their products are quality and their staff clearly love animals. read more

Aspen loves to shop...literally. He sniffs and smells everything until he finds something that tickles his fancy and then he clamps it into his mouth and God help you if you try to take it away again. When he goes for the 99 cent tennis balls, I find this practice adorable and charming. But when he goes for the $40 faux-fur gorilla that's 2 feet long and has a squeaker in each appendage, I'm not so amused. But Aspen will become so set on a toy that I usually have to dig around and find the tag on the damn thing (which is already slobbery) and pry it off to give to the cashier, because my dog will NOT let go. This gets me weird looks as to why I am presenting a price tag with nothing attached, until I point to my Golden, who has become so enraptured by having a new toy welded into his mouth that his brain has shut down and he appears to be malfunctioning. And he's ten. Oh, f#@%. The Pet Haus is new, but since I'm new to town as well, we get along great! It has a nice selection of toys that Aspen browses and a huge selection of food. It also has some nice bowls and collars and sometimes a big cage with kittens for adoption that Aspen is ALMOST as interested in as the toys. Almost. The prices are pretty fair, although I'm a cheapskate when it comes to food and buy it at the local feed store for $14 a bag. But we come for the toys, and the Pet Haus have a very good selection of those. The owners are very friendly and bring their dogs to work, so you get a greeting party upon opening the front door. My favorite is the most beautiful Australian shepherd I have EVER seen. His name is Murry and he has a gorgeous, soft, long blue merle coat and the iciest eyes. I am wondering how long it would take for his owners to realize that their beloved Aussie has been replaced with a mangy, dark red Golden retriever who has a toy constantly crammed into his jaws and the brainpower of a pea....Still working on ideas. read more

I just dashed in during my first trip to Durango and have to say it was great. The food that we buy ( Honest Kitchen) was about 10 dollars cheaper than we get either online or at our current dog store so we grabbed a box. This store had a great selection and the attendants were all very personable and it was very easy to start and maintain a conversation, even joking about how I didn't think my boy dog would appreciate a purse dog poop holder on his leash. I wouldn't recommend bringing your dog with you though as it is fairly cramped in the store and there are dogs in the store full time, not a great combo for my dog as he hates to share anything that he would grab with other dogs. Hello, I just want to tell the owner that I was a loyal shopper for years that spent a ton of money with my senior 135 lb dogs needs. To be honest, it was really upsetting yesterday when I came to town to get dog food at 6:15, when your supposed to be open unti 6:30 to find a note on the door saying you are closed early due to a staff meeting. I was out of dog food completely so had no choice but to find another avenue and hope they had the same food. As you know switching up a dogs food can reck havoc on a dogs digestive system. This is not the first time this has happened to me at your store. In fact it's been a few times through the years I've been turned away when you are supposed to be open. Yesterday I watched 5 people try to get in yours doors to turn away with an upset look on their faces. Thankfully creature confirms stays open until 7 and had my brand dog food. In addition 75% or more times you are out of my joint supp I need so I've now resorted to buying it online because my dog can't be without it for even a day. My question is why you wouldn't just schedule a staff meeting before you open or or at 6:30 al when you close to avoid upsetting your customers? It should be scheduled on hours you are not open for business. Each time you inconvenience your customers your are risking losing them to your competition. I will now be shopping at Creature Comforts after being let down one to many times. Come to find, have better hours 8-7, they are open on Sundays and they don't close the doors when they are supposed to be open. read more

This is the worst pet store in Durango I bought a 30 harness from here and the thing was defective and snapped on the second use! David Davis the sales manager told me that it has to be sent off and repaired they wouldn't back their products at all and he even said it's my dogs fault for braking the harness! Wow what is that? I was on a camping trip and my mastiff had broken his collar. He was also anxious and not eating. I stopped in to replace his collar and check out food that might tempt him to eat. The young lady who helped me was terrific. She even came out to the car to measure Humphrey's neck to make sure we got a leather collar the right size. She also introduced me to dehydrated food, which is amazing! Humphrey loved it and we didn't have any more trouble on that trip getting him to eat. I'm often through Durango on camping trips, I will definitely stop there again. Some folks have criticized the higher prices--cost of living in Durango isn't cheap, and in general is higher than most hometowns. For the excellent service and products they supply, I'd pay it all in a heartbeat. read more
