HUGE fan of SF Puppy Prep for its day school, socials, and workshops! This is a long review because…read morelike other folks reading this review, when I was about to bring my puppy home, I was debating between SF Puppy Prep and similar places in SF. Choose SF Puppy Prep! DAY SCHOOL: I sent Goji, 10 week puppy to prep school as soon as I was able to. The confidence and manners he developed over 4 weeks was invaluable. When I dropped him off for school his 1st day, he was trembling with fear when I left; by the 2nd day he was leaping out of my arms at drop off bc he was so excited to be at school. I'm positive that it is because of SF Puppy Prep that I get compliments EVERY time we are in public on how well behaved he is because he is so calm. He approaches larger dogs with curiosity and confidence; when other dogs bark at him, he remains quiet and checks in with me; he is rarely afraid of new sounds and environments. He also has shown a ton of improvement with obedience /commands and crate training at home that I was struggling to train myself. I see small things come out at home that I can only assume puppy school taught him (bc I sure didn't!) that make a huge difference. For example, when I put his food down in front of him, he will sit automatically and wait until I release him to eat. He also runs into his crate and puts himself to sleep at night when he's tired. Big shoutout to Tiro, Isaiah, Lindsay (sp?), Adrian (sp?) and all the other wonderful counselors that made my puppy's days so happy! PUPPY SOCIALS: Best in the city - I've attended a LOT of them and the reason these folks are better than any other is because they explain beforehand what good puppy play looks like, they narrate what's going on while the puppies are playing, and gently include owners in intervening or helping take breaks as needed. Because of this, as the owner, I am also more educated on how my puppy should play with others when he meets them in less structured environments. WORKSHOPS: I love the specialty workshops that are offered! I took my puppy to a recall workshop as it's very important to me he functions well off leash. He was a little young for the workshop but Amrit, the teacher, was so accommodating, and what we learned has been so helpful for me to continue training my puppy as he gets older. I typed this all on my phone and my thumbs are SORE now but in conclusion, if you're a new puppy parent debating sending your dog here, DO IT!

While it was my partner who brought our dog in twice over the last two weeks, I am very happy with…read morethe work Dr. Rosen has done with our dog! She's young and reactive, especially at the vet or with new strangers. We brought her in with an eye infection and she ended up being so thorough and did much more work on her than we ever initially anticipated in both her appointment and our follow up appointment. She really did everything possible to make her comfortable and worked with my partner to go above and beyond our expectations, she doesn't normally allow more than one vaccine, while there we received two vaccines, blood work, eye drops (her least favorite) and a proper diagnosis and follow up protocol for her hernia we've always been worried about. We're going to prioritize continuing to see her going forward because the care we received was above and beyond. Thank you Dr. Rosen!

He patiently listened to us and answered our questions, and recommended the proper course of action for a couple of other issues. The rest of the team was also very helpful and friendly. The front desk team helped us submit a prescription to Costco for a couple of the prescribed medications so we could get them cheaper. The only problem we had was that our little guy hates going to the doctors and gets all nervous and shaky whenever we go for his visits, so next time we may have to remedy the situation with a tranquilizer to lessen the impact on his heart.

The staff was so helpful bringing in the two cat carriers after I was dropped off by a taxi. My ambulating is not great even with a cane. Every staff member was cheerful and helpful throughout the visit. Dr Gervais is like an old friend to the cats. Their exams and treatment were carried out expertly, quickly and the cats used their best manners---they like the gentle treatment and sweet words. I certainly will be back. Dr Gervais explained their followup care do be done until we return.

The funny thing about animal hospitals is that they're generally better than human hospitals…read morebecause everyone working there tends to love animals. I could tell that everyone at SFAMC loves animals, and that's really important. SFAMC is not the cheapest option. It does not appear to have been consumed by private equity though. Just like any other health care, you should always make sure that ultimately you are the one making decisions. No one knows your dog or cat as well as you do. The doctors and staff at SFAMC did everything they could to save our dog, including keeping her in their ICU for three nights. The hospital is very well kept and well equipped. We were able to visit her three times a day during visiting hours. We were able to bring her home, but ultimately her age caught up with her. It made it sting just a little less knowing that we got her the best possible care when she needed it. We miss her so much.
