One of the biggest pros for me is how convenient the location is. Being so close by makes it really easy to get care without having to plan too much around it, which is a huge plus. I'll be honest, I was a little nervous going in because of some of the front desk reviews. When I called to make the appointment, the staff didn't come across as rude, but they were definitely more on the blunt side. Not overly warm, but still professional and got the job done. However, in person they were very kind. That said, the quality of care from Dr. Finnie and the male tech I'm not sure of his name, really stood out and made the visit worth it. I'd definitely come back because having a vet you trust (and that's nearby) makes all the difference.

Chloe doesn't usually mind going there and she's made friends with all the staff. They're always happy to answer the questions that we have about Chloe and her care and let us know if there are things that need to be tracked as she gets older. Today she had an injection and some other work done and they helped her stay calm and relaxed through all the procedures. We always appreciate their help! You may be worried about going to a large company for your veterinary care, but the staff at Modern Animal cares for your Animal as if it was their own. I was initially worried about going to such a corporate practice but everyone there is great.

However, in every single visit, they try to push unnecessary products and treatments. They often charge for medications and procedures before test results even come back, which makes absolutely no sense -- you end up paying for something that may not even be needed. I am a Portuguese speaker, and whenever I attended appointments without my husband (who speaks fluent English), the bills were significantly higher. In moments of concern for my pet, I felt pressured and ended up paying. Only later, at home, did I realize how excessive and abusive those charges were. This week's incident was the worst of all. My plan was about to expire, and they called me to schedule a "vaccine appointment." However, my pet was completely up to date with all vaccines -- done at the same clinic, so they had full access to this information. When I arrived 15 minutes late, they initially refused to see me -- which I understood. But the moment I mentioned that my dog was pregnant, their attitude changed immediately. Clearly, a pregnant pet became a financial opportunity. They offered only one option: a procedure involving sedation, lasting 5-6 hours, just to determine the number of puppies. The cost? $1,700. My dog is extremely calm and gentle -- sedation was unnecessary for a basic evaluation. When I declined, they refused to even take a simple look at her. I explained that she had been scratching more than usual and that I was concerned about her mammary area. All I asked for was a quick visual check -- something that would take less than five minutes. They refused. So they were willing to spend hours performing an expensive procedure, but not even a few minutes to check on her basic condition. This made it very clear: their priority is money, not the well-being of animals. They create the illusion of care and professionalism, but if you are not well-informed before your visit, you will likely be pressured into spending large amounts of money unnecessarily. Do not be fooled by the nice structure or the ease of scheduling. You may think you are saving with their plans, but you will end up paying far more in unnecessary treatments. I left feeling extremely frustrated, worried, and disappointed. I am still concerned about my dog, and they couldn't even provide a basic evaluation or answer simple questions -- like whether I could safely give her a bath. They spent nearly an hour trying to sell me an expensive procedure, but couldn't spend five minutes actually helping. I strongly do NOT recommend this clinic.

We…read morewere made aware of SF SPCA's spay and neuter services when I called my vet requesting for an appointment to get her spayed. They recommended to go to SF SPCA instead since the prices were way more affordable than what my Vet was offering. My husband ended up calling the clinic after I gave him the information (I was dealing with a terrible migraine, so I was unable to call them myself) and he had the appointment all set up. We were able to schedule our girl to get spayed the following day. We did have to pay a $50 deposit for the service, and then upon arrival it was around $200 for the spay service. I did ask them to microchip her (the staff in front mentioned it would be free), but I don't believe that was done during her appointment. If you do happen to book online, there is a $50 deposit and I believe the service is $325. It wouldn't hurt to call and ask if you could negotiate on the price. I ended up taking a Waymo here with my cat and I have to say that there should be parking around the area if you come early enough. The spay and neuter clinic is located inside the building on the right (past the black gates) - it is on the 2nd floor. If you're still lost, there are front desk staff that can assist you. There is a table out in front where you're able to check in your pet, and then wait until the initial exam is done with a vet tech. They ask several questions about your pet, if they are up to date with their vaccines, and any concerns you have. They also ask if you want to get your pet flea/tick medication or if you want their nails trimmed. I did mention that my cat was in heat and that she was already up to date with her vaccinations. I did not need to bring her pet records, but it was helpful to have on hand. Otherwise, once you're done signing the consent forms, they will take your pet to the back to perform the surgery. Drop off for cats was from 7:30 AM to 8:00 AM. Pick up time for me was 4:30 PM. I came there a bit past 4:30 PM and there were a ton of families waiting for their fur babies to be brought out. It did take another 15+ minutes to have my cat discharged, but the vet tech/vet did explain the medications that needed to be taken post surgery, and they also provided a surgery cone for your pet. They do not recommend post-surgery suits, donut cones, or anything of that nature (I tried with a post-op flower crown and my cat ripped it off immediately while being super out of it). Definitely a smooth experience, although they are super high volume and may not get to complete all the things you wanted to have done. I'm grateful they were able to take my cat in since because she experienced her first heat, and I was trying to get her spayed sooner. Grateful to the SF SPCA team!

The receptionist will direct you to the 2nd floor where you check in with staff and answer some medical questions. They will have you meet with a vet technician who will weigh your dog ask you questions about your dog and what will happen. They also provide ID chip foe your dog upon request. The vetinarian will come in let you know what is going to happen and they will call you to pick up the pet. My entire cost for the procedure was $600.00 which includes medications, the chip implant, and a cone. Every one there was great and it was definitely a positive experience.

He would start chewing and would lurch back from his bowl in pain. His primary vet and and the dental specialist in that office posited that his pain was from his upper canine teeth being too long, and their recommendation was to extract both teeth. We balked at this for a couple of months. Then, after what looked like an abscess forming, we took him to SF Vet Specialists in the fall. Lucky for us, a dentist had recently joined the practice. After x-rays and a biopsy, we were told that our cat had squamous cell carcinoma in his lower jaw. Dr. Zacher was at a conference (that discussed, among other topics, squamous cell carcinoma) when we received the biopsy results. We were essentially told that cats don't respond well to treatment, and that we could expect to make him comfortable until it was time to put him down, sometime in the next three months. Dr. Zacher returned and spent a long time--with much patience--talking to us about all of our options, including a mandibulectomy. Given our cat's docile demeanor and the likely success of the surgery, she talked us into the surgery. (yes, we did remove almost 3/4 of his lower jaw) Our cat is about to celebrate his 16th birthday, thanks to Amalia Zacher. The recovery process has been long and at times difficult, but she has been extremely attentive and incredibly compassionate. It really feels like we've worked as a team, and she has never given up or sent us on to someone else when things felt tough. It was an incredibly emotional day, and Dr. Crawford showed so much compassion while guiding me through the best decisions for my cat. He and his staff stayed with me until almost 10 p.m., waiting for the veterinary ambulance to arrive and transport my cat to the hospital. How amazing and sweet of them!
