I left my Great Dane, Levi, at Pet Paradise for a 5 night stay. Understanding that a Dane has special needs, I asked if they had experience with them and facilities to fit their needs. They of course assured me that they regularly care for Danes and everything would be fine. When dropping him off I had to assist in walking him back, as I have to do at the vet, because he is a bit too attached and the girl taking him back weighed less than he does. haha. When I saw the back hallway where the dogs are held I was immediately concerned. It looked no different than any pound or humane society I've ever seen. Concrete floors soaking wet because I assume that's how they clean their stalls. That's what they are too, stalls. Not rooms. I witnessed a male employee dragging an uncooperative Golden Retriever by the collar into the stall. Then he screamed at a small terrier as it was avoiding him. At this point I wanted to say no thanks and take Levi home, but there was nothing I could do because I had to get on the road for this trip. Midway through the first day I received an email with a photo of him during play time and it put me at ease enough to enjoy my trip. Upon picking up Levi I immediately noticed that the fur on his elbows had been worn off and the joints were swollen. After arriving home I found evidence of a bite mark and also noticed that he smelled of urine... Not how I hoped to receive my very loved boy. I called and spoke to a manager and expressed my concerns. She of course apologized and volunteered to give me 3 night free for a future stay, which I accepted so it would be noted on my account. Knowing full well I'd never use them. The manager went on the say that their beds aren't designed for Danes and that sometimes the animals will "choose" to sleep on the hard floor. That's when I reminded her she had told me they were well equipped to care for giant breeds. She insisted that they are and it was Levi that "wanted" to sleep on the concrete. I had had enough and thanked her for her time and hung up. A few days later I received a satisfaction survey in an email and let them know I was dissatisfied. The next day I received a phone call from the general manager and explained what happened and they again tried to defend their actions. I told them at that point I have no interest in using them again and would like the 3 day credit for future use sent to me as a refund. Gracefully the manager complied. So, in this respect they did the right thing. At this point I was torn as to whether or not to write this review. What pushed me to do it was when Levi's vet told me that the loss of fur and calluses were permanent. Had there been a review like this I wouldn't have used them and Levi might not have had this terrible experience. For small dogs and cats, they may be fine there but that is for you to decide. This is just my experience and I'm not saying that it 's what you'll find, but buyer beware. I recommend checking out Care.com. I am using them for when I'm out of town for 2 weeks over the holidays. Wow. We took our dog here and expected great things. We got the polar opposite. I will lead in with the fact that I am sure this place is great for 99% of the pets that go there. Just not ours, who had some special needs going in. Our dog has a dry eye issue and specific instructions were given at check in. They assured us that they have experience with this condition. Instructions were fairly simple - flush eyes morning and night with saline and use eye meds, twice a day lube drops during the day. We supplied 7 bottles of saline and only one was used. An eye flush takes at least 1/2 bottle each time. Our dog literally could not see when we picked her up - she had no idea who we were until we did an immediate eye flush in the lobby. Worse yet, we supplied 6 bags of veggie dog food for 5 days. We had 4 bags left!! Meaning, our dog was fed twice in 5 days. Stay away if you have a pet that needs anything extra, because they basically have kids taking care of your pets and they obviously do not have experience...either that, or they don't pay attention when you give them explicit instructions. Again, I am sure this is a great place for a normal pet. Upon check out, I was guaranteed they took good care of our dog. If guaranteed means starving the dog, who lost 4 lbs, and not flushing out a dog's eyes who cannot produce tears, then yes, they took great care of her. read more

In the past, you may have noticed that I have given this place a one star but after our recent experience I would change it to zero stars. This was my second time taking my dog to this place. I honestly really trusted this place to actually take care of my dog! Whoever recently took their dog or EVEN your cat PLEASE check them for fleas! My dog went into the place WITHOUT ANY fleas and once we got him back he had ADULT FLEAS! His entire stomach and legs were covered in sores because of the fleas biting him. I have proof from the groomers who I took him to the day after my boyfriend picked up our dog. My dog is not a outside and there is not a very grassy area anywhere. I went up to Pet Paradise and told them what happened. I brought with me a letter from our dog groomer expressing their concern from what they found in terms of bites and fleas. The resort says they "treat" for fleas which is NOT the case! After bringing this to their attention, the manager there that I spoke to said she told me and my boyfriend she would follow up with us once she heard back from her regional manager. After a week of waiting for her reply, I have yet to hear from her. I tried calling the regional manager Rachel Humphrey but had no response. My calls were completely IGNORED. I left her voicemails multiple times and no answer. If you all really want to leave your furry friends in hands of a trusting place, this is not it!! read more

I have taken my dogs (and at one time a cat as well) to Pet Paradise since 2012. They love it there! The staff is animal oriented, and I have NEVER witnessed any mistreatment. I noticed a red irritated area on one of my dogs belly's after a departure bath, and when I told them about it they started using a different soap. I go out of town frequently, and have been called by the staff there for things related to my dog's well being. I have never had a bad experience there, and my dogs appear to be very happy when they go. When they get home, I can tell they have been very active because they sleep like rocks. I am one of those people whose animal's are my surrogate kids, and there is no way I would subject them to intentional harm. I have never gotten the impression that they were not very happy there. Their arrival emails always have pictures of "the boys" and every time I depart I get a "pawgress report". My dogs (3) and cats (2) LOVE it here! They get top-notch care and attention every time they stay and let me tell ya - they are there pretty frequently. The staff is knowledgable and caring as well as professional. They tailor each visit to each of my dogs wants/needs - 2 prefer to swim while the other just wants her 1 on 1 time. Our Kate is treated to her "spa" whenever we go out-of-town. The staff is very animal oriented, and it is reflected in Kate's attitude upon arrival. She is excited to be there. We had a medical emergency on a recent trip that caused us to extend our stay by more than a week, and Pet Paradise was more than accommodating in extending and supplementing Kate's needs. If was the first time using any kind of a dog boarding service and I cannot say enough good things about this place. First of all, staffs are all nice, welcoming and attentive. Second, each room is spacious with a dog bed and a balconie. Third, a lot of dogs for your dog to socialize and dogs are separated into groups so that they can chill with friends with similar personalities. I will definitely use this service again! read more

Pet Paradise in Gainesville, Florida is the B E S T! I have 2 dogs, Brody & Charlie. They aren't around other dogs often. First time I boarded them. Was a bit worried how they would behave with other dogs. I chose option to get daily updates with photos. To my pleasant surprise, they both had a great time! I had to extend their stay by one night, not a problem. Staff, AWESOME! Facility, BEAUTIFUL! Rates are very competitive and WORTH IT! Pet Paradise also is Appreciative to US Military and Veterans. This place appears very nice and organized with picking times that your dog can have individual, group or day camp play time but they did not follow the schedule at all. In fact, my dog didn't get let out once on the first day he was there because of a mix up of the schedule that we had already clarified when we got there. In addition, as we drove way we got a call saying we had to eliminate individual or group play time due to full times and we chose individual to be stayed but they ended up removing both individual and group play time. I am very disappointed in my dogs stay. And yet we got another call on our way out of town asking if we had dropped my dog off yet... Also, we had gotten multiple calls while we were away asking about how to make our dog eat and we had told them exactly what to do: he needs exercise and individual play time would really help him eat. We had thought he was getting individual play time but even when we told them how to get him to eat they never provided him individual play time. There are so many workers there but there is a huge lack of communication of how to care for your specific dog. I was going into this thinking my dog would love this place but honestly it was the worst boarding place and I will never bring him back there. I have taken my mixed breed beloved dog to pet Paradise for the last year for both boarding and Day Camp and I can say that our Dog absolutely loves it there he comes home happy and tired from all the fun he has with other dogs and the excellent staff. Thankful to have such a fine establishment conveniently located on my way to work. I drop off my pup about once a week on average. He doesn't even mind me once we pull up to Pet Paradise. He has a clear agenda to have one of the staff take him back immediately to begin playtime. Loved this place. Clean, odor free, friendly people. They take the time to separate dogs into play level appropriate groups & the dogs get breaks in the A/C & get to swim if they want. I don't worry about my dogs accidentally going after a small dog there (she seems to think they are prey or self-propelled furry toys the way she looks at them curiously before trying to toss them in the air) since they are separate. Employees seem nice with pets & I like that you can check in on them via a web cam if need be. They are a bit pricey, but honestly, they earn every penny, so I don't feel like I'm being ripped off in any way - just would appreciate some more deals - they have specials...just would like a few more to choose from! Pet paradise is amazing!! I have sent my chocolate lab bear twice and he is loving wacky Wednesday. It's a great opportunity to get him a little more exercise during the week and for him to socialize with other pups! It is very clean! They have turf in the play areas so it's easy to clean. I'm able to check on him on the live cameras and they even give you a report card when you pick them up! Too cute. The manager is awesome and the staff is so friendly!!! read more

This is always the place I take my high-energy pup to when I leave town or anticipate a long day at the office. The staff are super friendly, compassionate, and flexible in making reservations and handling drop-offs, and when I pick him up he is always sufficiently worn out and excited to go back (especially to use the pool!). They are also good with medications, special food schedules/dietary needs, and the discount for UF students/staff makes it a very affordable boarding and day camp option. My only gripes, which are largely present at other boarding facilities, are that my dog has gotten conjunctivitis from past stays (though this happened while a portion of the building was under construction) and I wish it were closer to town for quicker drop-offs. Overall, Gainesville Pet Paradise is a mostly clean, slightly-inconvenient, but fills all the other needs for pet boarding and doggie day care! Pet Paradise is a great option for doggie boarding (I don't have a cat) and doggie day care. They are friendly and professional, and my dog Greta always comes home happy and exhausted. I took off one star because the location is really far from town, and not technically in Gainesville- and it is a bit pricey for me. But I keep going there because I trust them and Greta likes it! I also like that they are patient with me when I call frequently to check on my precious girl. Overall, great place! read more

Pet Paradise is the ultimate kennel and spa for our standard poodle. The environment, the personal attention and the price makes it a place we feel comfortable lodging our dog and she arrives eager to get with it! I recently had an unexpected trip come up, and my house sitter wasn't available. It was more complicated because my dog had developed a limp and had to receive meds and a specific amount of exercise. Pet Paradise took care of the whole thing. My dog loves the folks at Pet Paradise!. Her tail is wagging as she walks in the door, and it is wagging when I pick her up. I have used Pet Paradise for years for grooming and for day camp, but can now report total satisfaction with the boarding, too. They are really outstanding! We have always had friends come to our house to dog sit while we traveled. This past Thanksgiving, we needed to make other arrangements. I did ask on Facebook for suggestions and several friends suggested Pet Paradise. We were offered a complimentary play day and when we picked her up she was happy. She is old and get nervouse being away from home, even if she is with us. I was very worried but after touring facility, had complete confidence with leaving her there. Place my dogs Molly and Jax at Pet Paradise from 9/29/15 to 10 6/15. They had a great time there. I was worried since they never had been boarded. The staff there were terrific. The babies were given extra play time, and the staff separated them for eating time. Molly likes to eat Jax food first! I was very pleased with the quality of care both babies got and will definitely place them at Pet Paradise again. I will also highly recommend Pet Paradise to others.
