My husband and I recently adopted a German Shepherd mix who is about a year and a half. We don't know much about her past before we got her, but we do know that she was returned multiple times to the shelter. She has proven to be majorly reactive towards other dogs on walks (barking, lunging, etc.), but a complete delight around people. We tried three other trainers, and finally ended up taking a recommendation from a friend who had a similar experience. This brought us to Laura. During the pandemic, we have been able to do our sessions with Laura over zoom and facetime, and I am thrilled with the results. We still have work to put in, but our lives are changed and we have the tools now to continue moving forward. We have two beautiful, untrained and crazy little dogs. My husband and I were at our wits end due to Roxie's barking at anything that moved and Oscar's stubborn but sweet nature. I scheduled a session as our 9 month old pitbull was jumping on the counter. Laura spent time with us correcting both walking on a leash and jumping. I have researched a lot of dog trainers in the valley and I saw Pet Peeves. I immediately schedule an hour phone call with Laura to inquire about her services for boarding and training. Laura recommended the private lesson (6 sesh). I was skeptical in the beginning but being a first dog owner, i was clueless. My dog Toffee, she is a siberian husky, started to develop destructive behaviors like chewing cords and my car seat belt. She cannot stay still in the car and even in my house. She runs around, pee, and poo. She also pulls a lot during our walks. She is a strong puppy hence I always have a hard time during our walking sessions and it was becoming a drag. Just the phone consult with Laura was worth its weight in gold! Behaviors changed right away with the ideas she gave us. When we actually had our training session, it was very clear that Laura understand canine behavior and helped us to understand our dog much better. Let me start by telling you about my story with DOGS. Me and dogs just don't mix, after I got bitten by three dogs my life change and I have been always scared about dogs in general. It doesn't matter what breed or size of a dog I'm just afraid. About 11 weeks ago my oldest son Omar bought a German Sheppard puppy, he was name Moose nick name Moosie. He was jumping all over me and biting me, of course I'm so scared of him, I love him but too scared that he's going to bite me hard. Plain and simple I'm scared of any dogs. My entire family owns dogs and I won't go in their back yards if the dogs are out and loose. My son Omar is the one that walks him out in the morning and I'm the one that walks him during the afternoons. He literally was all over the place and kept trying to bite my feet, ankles, hand etc. I was waking out in our neighborhood and I met our Hero by the name of Laura Rice from Pet Peeves training at one of our neighbors house, where she happened to be doing her workout and she came out and we met thanks to Moosie. everyone there came out to say hello to Moosie. INCREDIBLE. As a first time dog owner, I was pretty overwhelmed when it came to training - and even more overwhelmed when I had to go out of town for a couple weeks while my french bulldog puppy was 6 months old and still getting the hang of... well, being a good dog. I was nervous about boarding him anywhere because I didn't want his bad habits to become engrained. And then, I found Laura and Pet Peeves Training, who was willing to board and train Ernest while I was away. She looked after and trained my little Ernest for 4 weeks, sent me regular video updates (which also really helped with my separation anxiety), and I am completely blown away by how much he learned! He's like a completely different dog now -- he's calm, pays attention to me, waits for permission to do things... before Laura, he was rambunctious, always running around my apartment and getting into trouble. Now he sits and waits for my commands, goes directly to his "place" when we return from walks. And THE WALKS - he used to be distracted by EVERYTHING, and now he heels throughout our walks and waits for me to say "release" before going off to potty or sniff the grass. It takes an amazing gift to have patience with animals, and Laura has that gift. How she can take a puppy who is rowdy and doesn't know his size and that chases cats, and jumps on people from overly rambunctious to a perfect gentleman in a matter of a short time is beyond my comprehension. We dropped Russell our Lab/Pit mix off with her (basically wishing her the best), she immediately understood him and began working with him. I have a changed dog. We rescued a high energy, easily distracted, noncompliant Yellow Labrador Retriever. We adopted a White German Shepherd rescue dog who was approximately 1 1/2 to 2 years old a few years ago. Initially she appeared very calm, mild mannered and never even barked. But after several months, we noticed a change in her behavior around people, other dogs, squirrels, rabbits, etc. She became more difficult to control and more aggressive towards dogs, animals and people. She nipped the ankle of my sister-in-law, and barked and lunged at other dogs. Furthermore, she constantly darted back and forth sniffing in front of us, and pulling the leash during our daily walks, so it was becoming so unpleasant walking her and we always had to avoid other people as well as other dogs. At one point, we considered returning her to the shelter. Instead, we enrolled her in one dog training program designed for aggressive dogs. After 6 weeks, we weren't satisfied with the results as her behavior towards other people/dogs continued despite following their "positive" reward practices. We decided not to give up on our dog and try another dog trainer. Laura is our "savior" as she trained our dog and us to be firm and show our dog who's the "boss". We understand why the prior type of training we received before doesn't always work, as dogs...like "kids" need to be held accountable for their actions. So, we hired Laura as our personal dog trainer to help us control our dog during walks and manage our dog's behavior towards people and dogs. Laura absolutely transformed our German Shepard puppy Frankie. We had a Zoom chat with her and after the 1 hour lesson, Frankie was immediately more calm and behaved. Frankie would bite a lot when playing with us and when he wanted attention but he no longer does that since we've learned from Laura how to stop and prevent that behavior. Laura is absolutely amazing! The female equivalent of Cesar Milan. I had a very leash aggressive shepherd mix that made my life extremely difficult as I walk my dogs daily. I would run the opposite direction each time another dog on leash would approach us. Laura taught me how to make some very simple corrections and now have a pleasant dog walking experience. Tonight we walked by two very aggressive (huge) Shepherds and I was able to handle the situation with ease after ONE training session with Laura. She didn't train my dog, she trained me. I have had other trainers in the past, however, no one has had success with training me the way Laura did. Love her and her pack! With two new 6 months old pups in our household we were feeling overwhelmed with the shier gravity of having undisciplined puppies that terrorized our house. Laura is the absolute BEST! I can't say enough about how she's transformed both my dog's life and mine. I rescued Maya from an abusive home:( She was terrified of anything and everything...especially men. Maya wouldn't let me touch her for weeks and took about 6 months for her to trust me enough to hug her. Maya "had" severe anxiety. Simple things like a knock at the door, sound of the washing machine, the vacuum or text message alerts would completely freak her out. Her trust issues didn't allow for visitors in my home without her hiding and tearing things up. She wouldn't allow anybody to touch or walk her except me. Laura is absolutely the best. My 1 year old pitmix khaleesi has severe anxiety around other dogs and was struggling with basic commands. We started with the basic obedience class. She passed that class and now does much better with basic commands. Now she is in the leash manners class and it really helps with her dog anxiety. She is relaxing around other dogs and starting to play! She went to daycare with Laura for the first time today and had a great time! Can't wait to take her back. We have used other trainers before. The one before Laura was quite fabulous for certain issues but we were never able to deal with my wee dog's insane behavior on leash with other dogs passing by or with jumping gleefully on guests when they arrive into our home. I met Laura at a Pet Food Express store...FABULOUS store, by the way. I asked her one question about my dog and his behavior. She said it could be fixed, which I thought was impossible. She suggested I get a prong collar and try that. I bought it right then and there. He did pretty well but I didn't have the knowledge to properly use the collar. So, though he was way better, it wasn't perfect. After my dog went on 4 hikes with Laura and her pack of assorted dogs, and one private hour, we have had AMAZING results!!!! I kid you not. For those of you who don't like the idea of a prong collar to train, trust me, it doesn't hurt or cause damage. It looks awful but it's not and it really helps to correct the behavior needing change. I have a little 16 lb dog. The collar is fine. Laura also showed me how my behavior and voice were playing a part in my dog's bad behavior. Even without today's private lesson, 2 weeks ago after my dog had had only 1 pack hike, I was finally able to take my dog to restaurant patios with other dogs, and he was a dream. So now that we have better training I will have the perfect dog! I have to stay on it, of course, but I'm so encouraged and happy. Laura is responsible, caring and so very smart. I love my dog, thank you Laura. I have a shepherd mix that we got from the shelter. Rain is a sweet and smart dog, but had all sort of behavior issues and very impulsive. He would bark at everything and was driving my neighbors (and our house) nuts. He was a running and could not be trusted. I was ready to find him a new home until I was at someone else's home and their German Shepard was so well behaved. That is when I learned of Pet Peeves Training and called Laura. Simple the best! I was amazed how immediately she connected with our boxer ,Rocky! She was able to improve Rocky's attitude, get him to keep in check his exuberance and teach him basic commands on the first day. In the past, we had trained our dogs but for some reason, Rocky would not respond to us. For us, Rocky was impossible to train. We felt our situation was hopeless and we were lost as to what we should do! So we sent him to Laura for a complete two week boot camp. It's is amazing the things this lady was able to get accomplished in such a short time. Rocky is now home ,is relaxed and obeys commands.
