We have only needed to board our dog on a couple of previous occasions, and we weren't really happy with the experience at the first place we used, for two different stays. An acquaintance recommended Tailwinds, and after some research, and some paperwork, we took the plunge. I think my dog enjoyed her stay there so much, that she wasn't really happy to see us when we came to pick her up! She's gotten re-adjusted to our little place with the cat, but I'm sure she'd be happy to stay at Tailwinds again in the future. Great staff, a great experience, we'll be using Tailwinds again in the future, I'm sure. read more

I'm looking for a daycare solution for 1-2 days per month during the weekday. I stopped by the facility today to take a tour and was taken back by the receptionist. She said they are not taking new customers; they have no openings and are always at full capacity. She was nice and offered for me to fill out the paperwork, but why? 1-2 random days per month isn't doable. Tailwinds you could even pick the days! I read someone else's post from earlier in the year that said they were on a waitlist for 5 months and thought maybe that person was mistaken. Ummm nope! I currently use Camp Bow Wow Avondale for overnights and daycare (highly recommend)- love them but need a daycare closer to work. Tailwinds isn't available folks - off to check out Foothills Pet Resort off of 32nd st and Lincoln. BTY: the receptionist was supposed to email me the paperwork.....no email yet. read more

We started going to TPR a couple years ago based on the good reviews on Yelp and have not had any issues until our last, I'd say, 3 visits. We have a small Chihuahua and take him there for grooming and nail trimming/filing. We specifically requested they use a the dremel (?) to smoothen/round out his nails so he doesn't scratch the furniture (leather) or us and it is noted on his file. The last 2x we had to take him back to have this done after picking him up. This last time it clearly was not done and we didn't bother to go back. The second of our issues? The 3-4 hours we have to wait before we can get him. That seems like a long time for a 5lb dog. I get that they are busy on Saturdays but we're wondering now if he is left until last, hence the lack of filing of his nails as they are in a rush to finish him? I don't know. The final issue and most concerning? The last time we picked up him up, he couldn't open his eyes for several hours. They thought he was sleepy. He was not sleepy. He simply could not open them and was constantly rubbing them with his paw. We talked to our vet and he suggested Visine or Refresh Eye Drops which we did, and it helped. This Saturday we took him in at around 9, picked him up the requisite 4 hours later, and he couldn't properly open his eyes until this morning, and they still aren't quite right at that. That's almost 48 hours. It was really sad to see him trying to walk around with his eyes closed, pawing them, and saddest of all, bumping into things. We've been using the Visine and switched to Refresh which seems to help. We do not know why this is happening. Is it hair clippings getting in and irritating his eyes? Is it the shampoo? Are they spraying him with something that gets in his eyes? Are they shaving the fur too close to his eyes? We are totally at a loss. We did call on Saturday when we got home and to TPR's credit got a call back from the groomer who claimed they did file the nails. I am questioning that as evidenced by the red scratches on my arms and chest from holding the little guy who can get a little squirmy when he wants down. Sadly, I think we will be moving on from Tailwinds Pet Resort. We tried to give them the benefit of the doubt the last couple of times but this final visit was the final nail. As I am writing this review, some TPR reviews are posted right next to the text field. They are all 4-5 stars but only talk about their kennel service and not their grooming services. Tailwinds is the 1st pet resort for our pups, Murphy & Jane. We've taken them in for grooming there, but never an overnight stay. My husband and I were out of town for 5 nights and we were worried sick. I just picked them up and they were happy to see me...but they looked like they were having a 'puppy party' at Tailwinds! The employees knew our pups by name and were so sweet with our dogs. Murph & Janers came out with BIG smiles, trimmed nails and clean coats. They looked better coming out then they did going in! I would highly recommend Tailwinds to friends/family and we will only use Tailwinds from here on out! read more

I can't say enough wonderful things about Tailwinds. Our boy, Clifford, has been going to Tailwinds for almost a year, and we've had nothing but positive experiences. The ladies at Tailwinds truly love animals, and it shows in how happy and excited Clifford is each time he arrives. The staff are easy to deal with, and they go out of their way to accomodate us/Clifford. In response to the reviewer about the $10 temperament test, all I can say is, "seriously?" If you are willing to pay for doggy daycare, is $10 that much??? I am glad they conduct the behavioral test, because I would not want my Clifford getting roughed up by another dog that is too aggressive or placed with the wrong play group. WOW! This is a wonderful place to leave your dog overnight. We use to hire a house sitter for the pets but always came home to chaos. Now we will send our doggies to Tailwinds when we go on vacation. I was very nervous about how the dogs would handle a kennel but this place is truly a pet resort. Awesome outdoor space for the dogs, your dog is not locked up all day, your pooch will get to play the day away and sleep safe and sound inside a clean kennel. There is always some one on the property for the safety of the animals. They were happy and healthy when we picked them up after a 3 night stay. What a relief. Thanks Tailwinds. read more

Tailwinds Pet Resort is my only destination for my dog Duncan. The wonderful staff and facilities are very accommodating for pets and pet owners. Not to mention Tailwinds has an amazing Synthetic Pet Grass system recently installed. Now I don't have to worry about my Duncan getting muddy paws or any other allergens from natural grass. Tailwinds outdoor play zone is safe and clean. I highly recommend this pet resort to everyone I speak to who wants grooming, daycare or vacations for there pets. read more

We've used Tailwinds for boarding and daycare and have been very happy with how they treat our dog. The staff is very nice and the owner clearly is an "animal person." Recently we tried them out for grooming too. Teddy came home looking the best he ever has. Another good sign is that Teddy enjoys going there.....He squeaks and wags the minute we pull into the parking lot. I guess you could say that he gives Tailwinds "four paws up." read more

Not just a boarding facility but rather a vacation getaway for the family pet. Whenever I leave town my pups come here and they have the best time. I am grateful that I have found this little jewel as it gives me piece of mind to know that they are not just ensuring they are fed twice a day but have play time frequently throughout the day. I own a very high needs French Bulldog that is the love of my life. She has had the pleasure of playing / boarding at Tailwinds since she was a puppy. I owe her sunny disposition and social graces with other dogs in part to her time at Tailwinds. Holly and her staff pay close attention to her needs. I trust them to take care of her whether its for the day or for two weeks. Yes, Tailwinds is more expensive than other facilities but would you send your child to the cheapest babysitter? My friend suggested Tailwinds as they had a good experience with their dogs several years ago. I went out ahead of time and got the tour and met the staff. I felt my 3 small dogs would get along with other dogs during playtime, however I wasn't sure. They assured me, they would do a temperament assessment (one time fee) and, if for some reason, they didn't pass, they would still get playtime on their own. I brought them in and called the next day to see how they were doing. They had up to date info on their progress, they were fine with playtime with other dogs. When I picked them up, it was obvious they got lots of love and pets from the staff. I would not hesitate to board my dogs here again when I travel. In addition, because they were there 5 nights, they got a complementary bath before leaving, which saved me $$ for a bath at their groomers. read more

If I ever need to board my cat "Baby Sweet Cheeks" again I'm coming back here. After dropping in on several others I was uncomfortable. I stopped by unannounced here also & the young ladies at the front were very pleasant, answering my questions. I was surprised to learn the cats were boarded upstairs in an apartment with an attendant. I then asked if I could see what it looked like, the desk checked to see if Natalie was available. From the moment I saw her apartment, which was clean, with no odor. The kitty there was happy & how she cared for them I was sold. She has cats so she understands them. She gives them personal loving attention. It was an all around excellent facility, but honestly to me it's the people. The manager, front desk to Natalie was superb! I would like to add that after I brought him home he will now go to other family members for attention which he had no interest before. Big thank you to Natalie! read more

I think the daily rates for dogie day care are quite good however, it is the other rates for a bath and extras that seems to be my issue. I have an 11 lb dog and for me to have her go in for a bath and to get her nails done was $32. To me, that seems a bit excessive. There was no hair cut or anything else done to her. Just a bath and trim the nails. If I could just drop her off for dogie day care I completely would but I don't think I will ever again have them add any other services. We have dogs that need socialization (Chinese Shar-Peis) so they go to Tailwinds one day a week and love it. Both get plenty of exercise and come home Good and Tired. Our bitch is dominant and jealous so the staff suggested separate play groups. It was the perfect answer: he has his friends and she doesn't have to work being his boss all the time. We have boarded them at times with full confidence. Each has a different diet and at times have been on medications. They are taken care of superbly and we have not had to worry. I cannot say that about other places we had used, including vet facilities. One added feature after their stay they come home freshly bathed. This is a staff that cares and know how to do a good job. This is a long overdue rave about Tailwinds Pet Resort. My dog Daisy stayed at Tailwinds several times before I moved from Phoenix in 2014. She always went in happily and came home exhausted. The staff is exceptional and I always knew Daisy was in good hands. I used their grooming services as well. Daisy is a puggle so we're just talking a bath and nail trim, but I was pleased. Dog owners - you have a lot of choices. But cat owners listen up! If you have to leave your kitty overnight there is only one place that they will play with your kitty (for no extra charge) and where they stay with the kitty overnight - and that's Tailwinds. Applewood Pet Resort had been recommended to me by a dog owner, but cats are different. Dogs regularly play with each other at dog parks and go for walks and see other people. Cats are more skittish so pet resorts have a hard time providing much freedom to cats. Applewood looked like a beautiful place, but if you're a kitty, you're either going to be in: a) a cage b) a cage with a tiny 'patio' which is just two more square feet of space outside - like those pitiful setups at the pound c) the tiniest 'room' which is like 3 feet by 5 feet And if you want them to take your kitty out for even 20 minutes a day it's like $20 extra per twenty minutes! As a previous reviewer said - at Tailwinds they stay in cages in a little apartment where the care giver (Lesley?) actually lives. She takes each of the kitties out to play with her. And depending on how many kitties are staying they may get to play a really long time (no promises, but they do say some cats get to stay out of the cages all night). This girl is really nice and really loves cats. It's much better if you can leave your kitty in your home and have someone look in on her, but if you *have* to put your kitty in a pet resort - Tailwinds is the place to go. read more

This place is the best! I researched a ton of places and this facility was by far the best. The buildings are secure and the staff is great. The kennels are meticulously clean and the dogs are very well card for. There is always a staff member with the different play groups which are separated by size and temperament. The groups are then rotated so the dogs don't always play with the same ones. They have a play pool for them also! The prices are on par with other facilities. My dog is a puppy and they were very patient with nervous mom phone calls the first few times, now the puppy runs to the door when I drop her off! I am already seeing the benefits of having a well socialized puppy. I would not go anywhere else! read more

We have been using Tailwinds for daycare and boarding for over six years. We have been so pleased with the love, care and proper socialization that our dog has received with the Tailwinds staff over the years- so much so that we recently added a rescue puppy to our family and he has been going to Tailwinds as well. We couldn't be happier with his progress with his furry friends and the staff. It's no secret that pet parents are extremely particular and that every dog has their special needs and requirements during a visit. I can tell you that my boys are no exception and I'm a pretty tough customer to please. I have found Holly and her staff to be knowledgeable, kind and very accessible any time that we have needed time to speak with them. We trust them implicitly and know that we can travel without a worry while they are in their care. Her staff have become our friends and partners in helping us love and socialize our dogs and we are often greeted by them and told something funny that our dogs have done or about the latest friend they have made. They are also the first to call when something doesn't seem right or one of them is having an off day. When I drop our dogs in the morning, you can see the smile on the staff's faces when they see them coming. You can tell that the staff really does love spending time with them and I'm not sure you could feel any better dropping your pets off. Our dogs bark and jump out of the car, they can't wait to play! I brought my dogs here for a couple weeks until i found a more reasonable daycare that fit my needs better. This place is expensive and when I went on a tour, I found a majority of the dogs caged. My dogs came home with just as much energy as they went there with. The new daycare I bring them to has the dogs out all day and my dogs are exhausted when they get home. read more

I wanted to share my wonderful experience I had with my pet recently. I have a 1yr old Bichon and needed to find someone to watch her at the last minute. I did some research on Pet Hotels and decided to go visit Tailwinds as it was conveniently located. The girls there were so nice and professional and the facility was quite impressive. Bella (my Bichon) stayed there for 2 nights and was groomed prior to leaving. She was happy, clean and the prices are very reasonable. I would take Bella again if the need arises and would highly recommend Tailwinds to anyone looking for a great, safe and professional place to keep your pets. read more

I brought my 4-month old puppy who was not very comfortable with new people to Tailwinds for the afternoon, and was a little nervous to be leaving him for the first time. He couldn't have been in better hands! The owners gave him extra attention and even gave me tips when I picked him up about how to help reduce separation anxiety. They also gave him a quick groom while he was there just to get him comfortable with the process. The facilities are unbelievable, but the best thing is that the owners so clearly love the dogs and love what they're doing. Tailwinds' contention that they are awaiting our response is untrue. This is what happened: We entrusted our dog to Tailwinds. While there, he fell, was dropped or jumped off the grooming table. Tailwinds admitted that he hadn't been tethered. We asked Tailwinds to assume the cost of his medical bills, about $4000 at this point. The owner refused, stating that our dog's injury was an accident and that her insurance wouldn't cover it. read more

I have a minature dachshund. In the past I've taken my dog to Pete and Macs on Happy Valley Road. Regrettably that location has now closed. Having heard good things abt Tailwinds, and the fact that it was somewhat close by, I took my dog for 4 nites of boarding. Previously when I toured the facility I was shown the petite compartment and told that my dog would be in that size ($38 nite). When I picked my dog up after the 4 nites of boarding I was charged $48 per nite (for a 15 pound dog). When I asked abt the higher amount I was told that he was boarded in a larger compartment because the petite compartment was for dogs 10 pounds and under. I told the person at the desk that no one had ever told me abt the 10 pounds limitation. I also asked that she show me where in Tailwinds brochures or the papers I signed that there is a 10 pounds limit. She couldn't show me anything in writing that stated this limit. So, bottom line I paid $202 for 4 nites of boarding what I consider (and most others would consider) a small dog. On another note, part of the $202 was a $10 behavioral assessment fee. When I asked how my dog's assessment turned out no one could provide me with any specifics. Also, when I asked the desk person how my dog did during his stay - the response I received was he must have done OK since she didn't hear otherwise. Not being satisfied with this matter I contacted the owner of the business and expressed all my previously stated concerns. The response I received back was thanks for bringing this to my attention and that they would work on doing better in the future. No offer to refund me any amount. Needless to say I won't be going back to Tailwinds. I'll go out of my way to go to one of the other Pete and Mac's in the valley. I also won't be recommending Tailwinds to any of my dog friends. read more

Atrocious Customer Service! I had a very upsetting experience with the grooming of my dog at Tailwinds. I was 40 weeks pregnant while my husband was away deployed in Afghanistan when I took my pet into be groomed. When I got her back the grooming was horrid. I called and asked to bring her back to be fixed and they did not allow me. It was only after the owner had time to call and demand that I bring her the following day to have the grooming fixed. The next day I went into labor and had a beautiful baby girl, I was unable to bring my dog in for her appointment. I then took my dog in to explain my circumstance and to have the mistakes corrected but the owner told me "No" and that I did not bring my dog into be corrected on the appropriate day. This establishment could really benefit from a education seminar on customer service. I will not be bringing my pet back and I will not be referring customers to Tailwinds. read more

A friend of mine recommended Tailwinds when our West Valley pet resort closed, and although it is a bit of a drive, it is well worth it. Before I made a reservation, I dropped in to see if I could get a tour and meet the employees. They were happy to take me around to the back where the dogs stay and show me the facilities. I was impressed with how clean everything was, and how friendly the staff were. Before our first reservation I filled out an extensive questionnaire about my dogs' likes, dislikes, fears and behaviors, and at Tailwinds they are sticklers about keeping vaccinations up to date. I have boarded my dogs there several times since, sometimes for as long as a week, and have always come home to happy, exhausted puppies. I feel like the staff at Tailwinds work hard to create a safe, fun environment for each of their clients, and that is why I continue to be a loyal customer. read more
