Went there for the first time - a lot of supplies here and I could see that I would have difficulty finding the particular dog food that I sought - aisles of dog food. It was for a local dog shelter in need. I bought out their supply of this particular food - 3 bags plus a neighbor's bag of another type of dog food. The employee who assisted me to select the dog food then walked me to the checkout counter. After paying, the checkout person then assisted me to my car using a dolly (it was over 100 lbs of dog food). Above and beyond - He offered - I didn't ask for the assistance. Great store and surprisingly fair prices. Almost the exact same as amazon. The 5 stars goes to the middle aged gentleman last week. I discussed to him my cat's current CKD condition, and he was not only informed and polite, but listened to my points as I'm also a volunteer at a humane society. He wasn't dismissive, overly persuasive, etc. He completely understands that in cats last few weeks, or days, the quality of the food isn't important. Just getting calories in and staying hydrated is best at the terminal stage. For someone to actually grasp that in November 2024 and understand it, shows he's got a PHD in being an animal lover. I've been disappointed lately in the cat toy selection at both Target and Petco, so when I saw this store while exploring the shopping center during a visit to Houston, I figured I'd see what there was to see. I'm glad I did. It's pretty big inside, deeper in breadth than width, but well stocked with everything! In fact, I didn't have to go far inside to find what I was looking for. Pretty awesome, and many cat catnip toys were on sale, too. I picked up a couple packs of two each, for my kitty's stocking (early December),then wandered around to visit the pets they had for sale. I've always loved aquariums and birds and said hello to a pair of kittens hoping to be adopted. Anyhow, the staff were nice, and I was happy to make this discovery. Whereas this little pet superstore in the heart of Houston, is actually pretty decent with regards to pricing and products. Barbie always likes this one more than a lot of the competitors. I, too, am am big fan. All kinds of treats that the big box stores like Petco and Walmart don't have - but higher pricing on some of the stuff that the big box stores do have. A pretty nice store with a lot of space & variety of products. I go for the self-wash as I have a toy poodle with a lot of coat and they have force dryers (something I need but don't own yet). Too bad the other patrons often absolutely ruin it for me. I can't believe this has to be said, but if you have no control over your dog, or it's aggressive to people and/or other dogs, DON'T BRING IT TO THE DAMN SELF-WASH! To the couple with the two ugly pit bulls and an uncontrollable, aggressive rat dog that you LET OFF LEASH to dart under my feet and harass MY dog while I was drying him, you should be lucky I wasn't wearing steel toes, especially since it 1. was growling & snarling at you while you half-heartedly tried to grab it, and 2. you left it loose, unattended, and WALKED OUT of the self-wash area several times! Dogs like that DO NOT belong in self-wash! Not only that, I had a creepy woman right up against the self-wash barrier who watched me wash and dry my dog for upwards of 20 minutes. The only thing she said to me the whole time was asking if I worked there, I said no and looked away because she gave me really scary vibes. She was leering RIGHT at me the whole time. She even followed me over to the drying table on the complete opposite side of the area. I was scared she was going to try to steal my dog if I stopped paying attention to him. My question is, why are there NEVER employees monitoring the self-wash station to prevent things like this from happening? I shouldn't have to be afraid someone else's dog is going to attack me/my dog, or some crazy woman is going to snatch my dog! read more

I fee like the name doesn't do this place justice because you think "supermarket" and think Walmart or something like that. It's definitely a huge store, but much homier than some of your traditional pet stores. I used to shop at Petsmart because they offered a coupon book of freebies when I first adopted my cat. I didn't even know places like Pet Supermarket existed! They are always running promotions on different items throughout the store and even sent some of the neighborhood customers $5 off coupons (no minimum purchase) to use for June through August. I popped in to buy my kitty some more food and saw that the usual brand I get was $3 off, so that combined with my $5 coupon was a great deal. I was scambling to tear off June's coupon, but the cashier chuckled and said I could keep it because they were meant to be reused. My cat has to eat the "fancy" stuff because she's allergic to basically everything, but they stock every single brand you could think of. And it's not just the expensive brands that have the deals. The last time I went, the Purina Tidy Cats litter was $1 off and offered a free bag of treats! My absolute favorite part about this store is that there are adoptable kittens that the employees encourage you to play with. You're welcome to pop open the latch and cuddle the kitties for as long as you'd like. They're from Houston Pets Alive, which is a no-kill shelter and adoption fees are only $50. The cats are positioned right next to the adoptable birds, rabbits, and hamsters, so there's plenty to keep them interested until you come visit! read more

I got my baby Theo from here! Blue Quaker parrot got him at 6 months old. Staff is wonderful here super kind and actually seem to love their job and want to genuinely help hou and your animal. I love this pet store!! Not only did we need a clean, well organized and well stocked pet store in the area, but the new groomer is amazing! Maureen took such good care of my frenchie, I snuck in early as she was finishing, and I could see she was being kind, patient and super attentive to Penny making sure she did a fantastic job. First time my pup didn't seem totally stressed out leaving the groomers! And she smells aaaaamazing. My poor Pheebs was rattling her empty bowl around demanding that her Royal Highness be fed. I went to her food container - only to discover we'd ran out. I knew that her Royal Worship would only become more and more angry - and before she called for my beheading, I remembered this place was now directly across the street and OPEN! It is very nice inside. Thoughfully laid out, with the cash registers directly in the middle. As you enter, to your right there are self serve washing stations for you pet. Well, dogs I guess. I don't think you could fit a horse there, but I'm sure you could try. Cat stuff to your immediate left. Small animals middle-left. And finally fish/aquatics to the back left. On the right were dog supplies as far as the eye could see. Right up front they had a bunch of dog beds on super-clearance. I'm talking nice beds for cheaper than you'd find at any other store. I perused their toys and chewables (LOTS to choose from) and ALMOST got the Queen P a batch of fresh baked treats. Almost. She's spoiled enough. The brands of dog food were all the fairly high end stuff - Blue Buffalo, Taste of the Wild, Nutro and more. No bottom of the barrel stuff for my liege. (I kid, she'd eat anything.) But, we were in a pinch so I paid a minor premium for the convenience. We signed up for the VIP card so the 11th bag of food is free! Dave (and the other guy who's name I just can't remember) were SUPER helpful. Showed me around, made some excellent and helpful tips. Cautioned me about changing dog food brands. All the really good stuff you actually want from a pet store employee instead of the usual i-don't-care-attitude you usually get from big box stores. The self-help pet washing area is free until August, after that there is a fee. However, they provide shampoo and misc. supplies AND towels to dry your pup. If you see us, come bow to the Queen, but prepare to grovel. read more

I've been going here since it opened recently. It has an amazing selection of pet supplies including the food that my cats eat. The staff are extremely helpful and the animal enclosures are cleaned daily. The animals seem happy, and they even get their kittens from the local shelter. All the kittens are fostered and the foster parents must meet the adopters before anything is final, so you know they're going to good homes. I'm so glad I can finally shop at a pet store guilt-free, unlike at PetCo or Petsmart. Today I bought a bunch of stuff including a pretty heavy and bulky cat tower-type thing. An employee I see there a lot, Dave, was so nice and carried it all the way to my car across the shopping district. We had a lovely conversation about our animals. I've never ever had such amazing customer service anywhere. He was also super friendly inside. I can tell he really has a passion for animals, and everyone in the store loves animals as well. On the north side of Richmond a few doors down from Spec's, close to the West Loop, is Pet Supermarket. They have lots of treats and supplies, food, for birds, small mammals, cats, dogs. They, also, do dog grooming. There was a large St. Bernard getting his shampoo while I was there. He seemed quite happy. Or course, any dog that comes in can get a treat! The staff was very friendly, helpful, and obvious animal lovers. They'll even carry your purchases out to the car, which is nice if you're buying large bags of dog food. When I first saw that Pet Supermarket came in across the street, I didn't think much about it. Never heard of it before and I pretty much buy all of our cat and dog necessities at Target. However, one day I was bored and decided to stop in. WOW!!!! I was blown away by the place. The absolute coolest part about the store is that they have all sorts of animals (cats, rabbits, birds, ferrets, Guinea Pigs, gerbils, etc) and you are able to pet all of them. Other than the cats, the tops of the cages are all open so that you can pet them. As for the cats, you are allowed to take them out of the cage and walk around with them. Every Saturday and Sunday they have cat and dog adoptions. Depending on the litter at the time, some go faster than others. But, the cats are always replaced by a new litter when the others are adopted. The cats are taken care of by a rescue/foster group. The fosters visit their cats regularly during the week. The point of allowing so much hands on attention is that they feel the animals will be happier and more adaptable to humans when they do get a forever home. On top of the animals, the products are awesome! The prices are not much more than your typical pet store and they carry more boutique items. I swear these animals eat better than I do! The variety of every item possible is crazy. I usually walk out of there with more than I came in for. The other cool thing about the store is that they have a dog wash station. We took our dog there today and it worked out great. I believe its only $10 and they provide the towels, aprons, and hairdryers. Basically, this place is awesome! If you are bored and in the area, stop by and give some fur babies some love and attention. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this place! I come to that plaza semi frequently, but had never noticed this store. I decided to go in on a whim, and found some cute toys and yummy chews for my dog! This store as a great variety of items, and reminds me of a mix between Petsmart and Krisers. They had an adorable little bakery section up front with seasonal cookies and cakes for pets. As soon as I walked in, Osmar helped me and even when his register line was getting long, he was patient in helping me answer all my questions!
