There seems to be staff members that are available everywhere in this location. Most are fairly knowledgeable about some of the things in their dept... except in the fish dept. it's been about 3 different times I've gone to purchase one thing or another from this dept, they can help you locate items on the shelves, but there hasn't been any of them that can hold a conversation about the actual fish. I was there about 3 weeks ago with the intent to purchase some guppies, both male and female I'm hoping to have fry to feed to other fish... anyway this child didn't know how to tell the male from the female ( so silly ) I tried my best to explain how to tell. Another location, another fish dept . As soon as my husband and I were talking about making a different purchase, and an offhand comment about them being feeders, she got very angry, told me I needed to leave the store immediately, that her fish were pets not food! I really did start to get a manager , but ended up so irritated y her that I just left, ( I haven't been back to that location since ). But I'm not reviewing that place . The South Lyon location has a lot of friendly and helpful staff, they just need so more training about the animals in their dept. which would have gotten them a 5 star. But 4 is still good, right ? read more

I believe this location has gotten new management. It is so much better and more pleasant now than in the past. I love the bakery and the Boujee little shop in the back. Of course my dogs are too large for this selection, it is still fun to look! There prices on dog food are matched elsewhere which I do appreciate when most places have raised their prices lately. I spoke to a young employee while I was working on some training with my dog, and they were just so friendly and respectful. I don't remember their name unfortunately. The South Lyon pet supplies plus has recently gone through a complete remodel of their store everything is super easy to find and they've added a lot more stuff to their selection. They now have saltwater fish and other small animals that they didn't normally Carry. The wash area has been revamped and The grooming station as well. Staff is always friendly and helpful. I have to post about what a great experience at Pet Supplies Plus. I always have a positive experience but today was just outstanding. All the employees go above & beyond to accommodate customers. The two young ladies, one was named Sara, brushed both of my big dogs, clipped their nails and grounded them smooth. All done with incredible care and kindness. The young lady who manages the grooming area was so kind, patient and over the top helpful. Russell greeted us when we arrived and helped me get the dogs thru the door, which is no small feat given their size. And the cashier allowed me to take my dogs to car before I paid, saying, "Its ok, I trust you." All the staff appeared to hard working Millennials. We hear & read a lot about the lack of work ethics from this group. Today's experience contradicted all of it. That is a business that really cares about their customers. So thank you to all the employees at Pet Supplies Plus. I will continue to thank them with my patronage. read more

The South Lyon Pet Supplies Plus is excellent and every employee I have had interactions with has been most excellent I have visited this store since 2012 day one opening and I remember Patrick making a lasting impression on my opinions and how I felt about purchasing from here he also made a positive lasting impression on my 3 dogs and two cats that have visited; they loved him and knew he loved them back; he truly understands and bonds with animals on a level only those that have the ability understand; he always would go above and beyond and enjoyed doing it. Me and my wife have spent many hours shopping around at many different pet stores over the years for food and supplies for our small zoo we have. By far our favorite place to go is the South Lyon pet supplies plus. Every time we come we are always greeted warmly as we enter, the prices are always comparable if not better then all their competitors. And if you find it cheaper someplace else, they will price match it. The staff and management are always friendly and helpful which really makes it enjoyable to shop their. The reason I like coming here is because they have a great selection of products for my dog. I came home from a long trip to find my parents over fed my dog while he is on a diet. I had to go to the store and buy new food and treats. A young lady asked multiple times if I was finding everything okay. Then a manager, Patrick came by and was determined to help me find low fat, low calorie, high fiber treats for my dog. He also helped me select a better dog food for him. He matched a deal for me as well. Today is my dogs 3rd, birthday and I can't wait to give him his new goodies! I was previously buying dog food online from petco, but will definitely come back here from now on thanks to the excellent customer service. read more

Overall our expedience is usually nice. Love the dog groomers, who love and try to make room for our little pup. The groomers gush over our pup as much as we do. Our biggest issues are usually that supplies aren't always in stock or have been moved. Our pup LOVES the Starmark Everlasting Treat Ball, but the small size treats seems to always be out of stock. It's the one toy that he can actually eat. He is a serious chewier and he can rip though the heavy chewer toy in a day. This isn't the only item we usually have to wait for or order from a different store online. We've been waiting for Paw wax since early December. We love to us it in the winter to help give out pup a chance in this cold weather...we had to seek other options; found a better option in the process. Then today we had an issue with the washing area. When we first turned the hose on, it was hot (fine for adult human but very hot for a small dog). After wetting him down by putting the water in hands, we turned on the soap setting it began to cool down, so we started spraying him down, it suddenly went from cool to ice cold. We quickly rinsed off our pup, feeling bad is was so cold. I thought if we could just get to the blow dryer he'd get a chance to warm up (it's usually warm). But no not day, cold air. My mom went to go see if there was anything the worker could do (turn up the water heat or something for the next pup), while I quickly tried to get my poor pup dried off with towels, at least friction still works. When my mom told the lady about the situation, she went to call a manager...who never showed up. We decided to leave, carrying out violently shaking dog out wrapped in my mom's sweat shirt and his doggie coat. We sat in the parking lot for almost 10 minutes with the car heater blasting at him. His tail and ears was still very cold by the time we returned home (my mom held him the entire way on her lap). read more

The woman who worked there, possibly the manager, was working with the fish tanks. It was late in the evening and she was clearly in the middle of a project. My son and I were shopping for supplies and enjoying watching all of the reptiles they had available. She made conversation almost immediately, talked about her pets at home, asked what we were interested in. She offered to show us a few of the critters that we were admiring. She was extremely knowledgeable about their care and needs. Her attention made for a great experience and we even left with a new pet I'd had no intention of buying! Say year-and-a-half ago the store was the most wonderful place to shop. But I have watched as I walked into the store the employees slowly depleting and moving on running into them here in town. Their stories of why they left are at best second hand. But when I hear it over and over again it is sad to see so many good people leave for the same reason. Now when you walk in noone greets you it is hard to find somebody to help you. There was a cashier there for many years that was always so pleasant and happy to help everybody she too has disappeared. I think the turnover at the store is horrible and I cannot understand why so many of my favorite employees that used to make me feel so welcome felt the need to leave. The cashier used to know my name my dog's name and knew what kind of food I purchased and would always tell me if my favorite treats are on sale so I could stock up. Now when I walk in I feel like everybody is just there to show up until it's their time to leave. I appreciate the fact that you have kept furry friends there as I love visiting the cats. I will still shop at your store but I expect nothing from all of the new people working there. The few that have stayed that seem to at least be sincere is Joe and Kobe. There was another manager there that is way too over-the-top and scares my small dog every time I have brought him in so I no longer bring him into the store. read more
