I went in over the weekend looking for recall/training leads for my dogs. They were completely out of stock, or they were doing a reset in the area, hard to tell. Anyway, walked around and looked for someone to help, maybe to look in the back and see if they had some not stocked yet - no one other than the cashiers were around to help. It was a Sunday, so i was pretty surprised to find that that was the case. We walked out of the store empty handed. I ordered the items online through Amazon instead. Since my review on 4/4/24, I received no call from Corporate to address the original complaint I filed after the last incident. I resorted to engaging the Better Business Bureau in an attempt to get some answers. At this point, I felt their disabling of my online access and banning my dog from their grooming services was a retaliatory effort due to the complaints the store has received from me. Keep in mind those complaints sought to address serious fire safety violations, OSHA concerns and poor customer service from Management. I finally got a response in late April from the Corporate head quarters and this is what they said (I won't hide one word from their response). "After reviewing the feedback from our groomers/store partners, it has come to our attention that there have been multiple instances where they have felt disrespected and treated unprofessionally by you during the grooming sessions for your dog. This has created an uncomfortable working environment for our employees, which is something we take very seriously. As a result, you will not be groomed at this location in the future. And while we wish that we could further assist you, we have policies that we need to enforce, and we reserve the right to refuse service to guests as we see fit." First off, this is news to me because I have had great interactions with the 2 groomers I have ever worked with. When I asked for the dates of these occurrences so I can cross reference them with actual grooming appointments, they failed to respond. Unfortunately the consumer is to be blamed in this instance even though none of what they stated was true. I have my suspicions as to why the store would make up something like this, as I know a couple of the workers there and they would make up stuff just to ban a customer out of spite. I would use this store with caution, given if someone like myself who puts thousands of dollars a year into the store gets banned for "NO" reason, but a made up story so the workers are not disciplined for their actions then it tells me everything I need to know about their brand, mission and how they treat loyal customers. There are dogs who I have seen bite their groomers who are still being groomed today, yet my dog has done nothing and gets banned. Hmmm double standard here or just personal preference on the part of the groomers to choose who they feel should get their services rather than the consumer decide who gets paid for their services. read more

I visited Petco two months ago after adopting my new dog. I knew that Petco prices were slightly higher than other option but the shelter had given me a discount certificate. At the checkout I redeemed my coupon and signed up for a member program which would have made the price difference a non-issue. I returned for my second visit a month later and gave my name and phone number for my membership privileges. They couldn't find my account and so charged full price. I have now driven over an hour on my day off twice to get my dogs nails trimmed only to be told upon arrival, that they can't do it. Today I tried calling about four times before making the drive again to see if there was availability for walk-ins as the website and nobody answered the phone those four times. I won't be giving my company my business anymore and will be taking both of my dogs to get groomed somewhere else as well as their nail cut. Their customer service is poor. read more

Twice we have ordered our dog food online and twice the delivery was canceled days after it was supposed to arrive. We were told both times that the order was cancelled due to package damage but were never refunded for the missing shipments until we called in to ask for it. This store is very disorganized. My issue is with the grooming salon. I have had multiple cancellations. I travel from peaks island to make my early morning appointments and they have cancelled three consecutive appointments. They cannot keep groomers and the managers have made promises that have not been kept. We have utilized Lyndsey for several years and she did a wonderful job and managed her appointments well. However she is no longer there and the department seems to have taken a huge dive. Also the website is awful and the online booking service is terrible. Never to return. read more

I went in about a month ago with my pup and informed them of seizures do to swelling of the brain from water consumption on Christmas Eve... they said it was fine and took her! three weeks ago she had another appointment and turned her down after I reminded her of limited water she stated she was unable to take her this time with out a vets note.. but didn't say anything during her first grooming about it. we drove 45 minutes to get there and stated she didn't know when I informed her many times at her first appointment arguing with me that I didn't inform her when my husband was right there! January 3rd 2025 walked in to Petco Auburn Maine. Straight back to aquatics to get crickets for my leopard gecko immediately. I was told that they had no crickets. And then in the same breath, the woman pointed to 3 boxes directly in front of the cricket container saying. We won't open them until about 2 o'clock. Why could they not open them right? Then? In there and yet my 30 crickets for me for me to be on my way. So now I have to go back some time after 2 o'clock. It's a 20 minute drive one way just because they were lazy and didn't feel opening a box to retrieve the crickets. Very dissatisfied and this is not the first time.I've been shoe'd away from this location, oh and not to mention there was two employees that were standing there doing absolutely nothing. If it wasnt for the fact that they are the closest vendor to me that carrys crickets regularly i wouldnt go back. Very terrible customer service skills. read more

I'd give zero stars if I could. I drove 2 1/2 hours for a grooming appointment. I called to advise I was running a little bit late due to construction that was near the Petco paving construction which had traffic lined up. I called multiple times and nobody picked up the phone so finally I dialed zero it was connected to a manager and she said I'll let them know you're fine, when I arrived, I was told completely something different that the manager made a mistake and the manager came over and apologized that she did not know that they could not take on somebody Lee. However, they would not take me for my little Yorkshire terrier dog, which I was shot 20 minutes late Stuck there for 10 minutes with shock on my face so they would not take me even after I was told that they would on the phone by the manager. I pleaded because I drove so far but the girls had no compassion she was booked for a bath and a cut so maybe you just don't do the cut and you just do the bath?? I can't imagine 20 minutes throwing them that far off the Hwy The by the time we were done talking about it. It's been 30 minutes now so the girl tells me well it's 30 minutes. Still a little tiny dog it can't take more than 30 minutes to bathe her, I just could not believe it. Terrible experience no wiggle room. read more

First time cancelation was due to his nails needing to be cut..Thought that was part of grooming. Went to the vet. Supplied vaccines. Went to the store 2 more times again cancelled without a phone call. Head groomer offered free grooming. Went today n the groomer declined grooming because my Yorkie growled when touching his paws.. Groomers assistant said they dont groom dogs that growl. So I left the store pissed with no grooming after a months time. Duality noted for a free grooming was the part I believe the Petco fromm grooming my dog. Very UNPROFESSIONAL..I wouldnt bring any scared dog to there groomers because the dog might growl and not get groomed..never heardca groomer whos never had a scared dog be pushed out the door for this dogs reactions.. read more

The stupidity of their employees, at least the ones in Auburn, Maine, is absolutely astonishing, and I am some damn tired of constantly being the recipient of it. I called to ask if they had any gel-filled cooling collars for dogs, and they don't (big surprise), but they said I could always order them online. If they had two brain cells to rub together, and they don't, they would have gotten ahead of this heat wave (it's not like we weren't warned with climate change) back in May and they would be selling like hotcakes now. If their answer is always we can order online, then what good are the brick and mortar stores? Some stores have made the comment that Amazon has ruined their businesses. This is absolutely not true! They have ruined their own businesses by having piss-poor customer service. Why should we get treated like second-class citizens at the brick and mortar stores when we can order online to begin with and save gas and aggravation. read more

I was very dissatisfied after asking about some issues I've had about my bird ( parrot) when they said they knew NOTHING that could help and scurried away like I had the plague. I couldn't even find the corn bedding because once I spoke to them they avoided me like the plague. Maybe it's the way I looked ! We go to the petco because it's closest to our house. We brought my pup in for a grooming appointment in September and he came back still smelling! We tried again a few days ago and my dog came back smelling great but had nicks all over him. There was a chunk taken out of his paw pad. I am extremely upset that no one informed me of this. I will never bring my dog to get groomed at this petco again. read more

For a chain pet store, this one is great! The store employees are friendly and generally knowledgeable. My cat was just diagnosed with feline diabetes and they were able to help me find the very best food for him. I'm just hoping he'll eat it once he's on the mend. Ashley was extremely helpful and caring. She spent almost a half hour showing me different foods and helping me figuring out what is best for low carb/high protein diets. Kris helped me on the phone and she was also very helpful. I'm definitely going back here for our cat supplies! read more

Adopted two kittens about two weeks ago and bought a cat perch same day from Petco. Five days later I started seeing these bugs in my bathroom (bathroom suite where the cat perch was). At first I thought they were ticks because I live out in the country but after seeing three more and getting bites all over my body I really took a look at the bugs and panicked. These are not ticks. We wrapped the cat perch up in plastic and put it outside. Week later finding two more bugs in the bathroom. Called Orkin. Bedbugs. Gross. Thankfully we caught it before a full on infestation. He went outside to look at the cat perch and there was a full on infestation in the perch. I've never had issues with Petco before but do not buy any type of pet furniture from there. read more

I'm not in the auburn area much but I prefer this store to topsham 9/10 times. The employees are so much more knowledgable and generally more pleasant. Went in the other day for flea and tick meds for our cats and thought why not pick the girl's brain about our two cats' weight issues. (We have one thin fit cat and a fat but still quick on his feet cat.) And she was extremely helpful with telling us what food would be good for then (since they eat from the same bowl.) She also was great about explaining why it's important to mix the food and gradually switch them over rather than just switching them over completely. read more

A couple months ago I brought my dog to have a simple bath/ear cleaning/nail trim at the Petco in Auburn. I will never take any of my dogs there ever again. He is a mild manned dog who loves baths, doesn't mind his ears being cleaned, and since the age of 5 weeks I've played with his paws so he'll be used to them being touched for trimming. When I brought my dog to the grooming station I was first told that I would be able to watch him being groomed, through a glass door. Not true. They took my dog out back, and I wasn't allowed to see him. I let that slide because I thought it might be best because he does have slight seperation anxiety and seeing me might make him want to be with me and not the groomer. I was told it would take an hour for everything to be finished (at home it takes me 30 minutes max, and I'm not a professional groomer, nor do I have all the fancy tools.) I was also told that I would be called on my cell phone when everything was done. No, instead they called my -home- phone and left a message. So after an hour and 15 minutes I went in to see how long it would take for him to be finished. The girl said "Well, we called you at home...nobody answered!" Well no crap. I wasn't at home, hence why I told you to call me on.my.cell.phone! She brought my dog out and he was shaking all over (not an excited shaking, a "I'm scared to death" shaking). I wanted to get him out of there as soon as possible to try to calm him down, since he obviously must've had a bad experience so I paid the groomer and quickly left. When I got home I noticed that 1.) his ears were not cleaned, and 2.) his belly was still dirty (his stomach is white so it's easy to see dirt. So I don't understand how she didn't see it). I called and complained about those two problems, and I got half of my money back. When it was time to trim his nails again, I of course did it this time. Before his trip to Petco he was 100% fine with his paws being touched, as well as having his nails cut. When I went to clip them he instantly started shaking when he saw the clippers, and kept jerking his paw away every time I went to touch his feet. It makes me wonder what they did to him during the nail trim. Did they restrain him? Hurt him in some way? I don't know, and most likely never will. I'm not trying to outright bash the store/company, I've had many good experiences at Petco with my dogs. They all love to go in and walk around, meet other dogs, pick out toys/treats, and run to the cashier for their treat. I'm just trying to warn people that maybe you should look for a different place to get your dog(s) groomed. read more
