The E-Vet made a misdiagnosis and their prescribed medications made our boy extremely dehydrated, but Dr. Penny has been able to get him a little better. He might be away from us for at least another night, if not two. The staff at Companion Animal Clinic are helpful, knowledgeable, kind, compassionate, patient and I can tell they really do care about us and our babies. I won't trust another vet ever! We were advised to do X-rays and consulted on everything and the staff were very supportive My cat was diagnosed with Lyme Disease, Pancreatitis, constipation, dehydrated, 3 fused backbones making it impossible for him to walk. Judith not only professionally and effectively cared for my cats, she was a compassionate individual. She came in the clinic late one night, from a holiday party, when Ruffles seized for the first time. When it came time to say goodbye to Ruffles, she came to my home and gently helped me let him go. She sent me a card afterwards that I still have, years later. If I still lived in Maine, I would still be going to the Animal Wellness Center.

My husband and I have been taking our pets here for about 15 years. It used to be a great place that we trusted, but we have seen this place change over time, and not in a positive way. It started when I took my hound Gunnar there when he was puppy. A vet tech asked if I ever had a dog named River. I answered no, I never did. She then proceeded to say "Yes, You did, I know your name, Stephanie Grant!" Then proceeded to berate me on things I supposedly did this dog named River who I had never heard of. (By the way, I know there is another person who shares my name who lives in my area, or at least used to. I only know this, because I received her sewer bill once in error) When She was done, I shrugged it off as an odd encounter, thinking it was someone having a mental health breakdown. My hound, Gunnar received all his care there from puppyhood to his last day. The last day, though, was the final straw for me. On Tuesday 1/13/2026 Gunnar's health suddenly deteriorated within hours, to the point where he was unable to walk. He was quite elderly by this point, and we had expected this. At over 90 pounds, he was a large dog in a great deal of pain. I asked if he could be possibly be euthanasized in our vehicle. Instead, I was curtly told that he needed to be brought inside for a "quality of life check-up" because it was over a year since he was seen. This made me feel like a neglectful pet owner, even though I was sure it hadn't been that long. Later on, I looked through my CareCredit receipts and saw that Gunnar had a wellness checkup on 1/17/25, so he had been seen, in fact LESS than a year. Since Gunnar was unable to walk, we had to put him on a stretcher and bring him inside, rather than taking our word for it. For us, it wasn't about the money at all, how we were treated or gaslit. Or, perhaps, the staff thought I was the other Stephanie Grant, I don't know. Have your vendetta all you want with me, (or whomever you think I am) but DO NOT take it out on my dying dog. It was about the unnesscary pain and discomfort Gunnar went through on his last day on Earth. For that, I will never forgive them. I'm kicking myself for not refusing and taking him to an emergency veterinarian instead who would have done the procedure at our vehicle. There's been a few things about this place that's rubbed me the wrong way, but I will never forget how we were treated. Gunnar deserved better than this.

They came as scheduled and saw my old girl in our driveway. Dr. Anderson and the vet tech weighed her, examined her, and drew blood with so much kindness and patience, I'm not convinced she knew it was a vet appointment. They followed up on the bloodwork promptly with realistic recommendations, considering her age and situation. I will be using them for my younger dog who currently has two prescriptions in order to endure a vet appointment. It is a bit more expensive as you pay for the house call and it does take a while to get an appointment--I believe they scheduled this annual visit out about a month from when I made it, however it is totally worth the extra money and the wait.

She was such a handful, and it wasn't until we started sending her to daycare at Wags a few times a week that we felt like we were able to breathe again. Wags does an excellent job with their daycare dogs! There is plenty of land for them to run around in, and we never had to worry about dogs being unsupervised or getting into fights. The check-in process was easy, and the owner is very friendly and knowledgeable. She even gave us tips on finding the right kind of crate for her at home based on their observations at daycare. Most importantly, our puppy absolutely loved coming here. One time she ran out of our house when my mother-in-law accidentally left the door open while unloading groceries, and we eventually found her sitting inside the car hoping to be brought to Wags! Thanks to Wags for taking such good care of our girl.
