The grooming services was terrible. He looks terrible, the lady didn't even clean his body off. We paid for teeth clean, genital cleaning and basic cut. he came back with a lopsided head cut and his body was not even touched. Never take your dog here. He looks like a cube. We've done both grooming and dog training here over the past 4 years and aside from a few scheduling issues (was not notified of classes being cancelled, so we showed up) we have been very happy with this Petco. The staff are friendly and helpful and our dog gets so excited whenever the car parks in front of the store. He knows that treats and TLC are in his immediate future! He even gets excited when we walk into the grooming side of the store (even though he's not a fan of baths). The groomer was the first to suggest we get him clipped last summer and I can't believe we hadn't done it sooner! He looked great, we had less shedding, and I think he had a more comfortable summer with his short hair cut. read more

We took our Australian Shepherd Katie to be groomed here. We told them to trim her coat. We left, came back to pick her up, and they shaved her!!! Her whole body was shaved down to about a 3/4 inch-1 inch. You do not shave aussies, as their coats do not always grow back correctly. These groomers obviously do not know much if anything about dog breeds. Ridiculous that they thought it would be okay to shave her. Never coming back, they do not know anything about dog breeds and we are praying our beautiful dog gets her coat back. These groomers should know at least something about dog breeds. read more

I recently took my goldendoodle to get groomed and four hours later she's finally done so I go pick her up. At first she's happy to see me and is excited then we get home. Immediately in the house I notice she's limping and I look to see her paw has been cut. They never even informed me. Since her appointment she's been sad and laying in bed not wanting to do anything and not acting like herself. I will never bring her here again. I'm furious. My sweet girl can't even walk to get food or go to the bathroom without limping or crying. read more

I don't really write review specially bad one's but I guess this petco grooming shop lady had one bad day. I made appointment for two dogs and told me to come in between 10-1030am. But I was running late about 10min or so I arrived around 10:40. There was no greetings or no eye contact from this lady. She just staring at her pc and said "your late" so I apologize and asked her if dogs can get hair cut. All I got from her was "NO" just like when you say to your pets no lol... Idk maybe it's just one of bad days for everyone but she was being very rude imo. I know I was late a bit but for pet shop it's $120 business. Atleast she could a been little polite about it. My wife and I needed to get our dogs to behave better so we scheduled lessons. It was especially time sensitive because we are expecting our first child in February! Danny, the certified pet trainer, was excellent with our dogs. After six weeks they have improved drastically. I brought my previous dog here once before and had a bad experience. I wasn't going to come back, but they had availability and my dog really needed a cut. Well they were super friendly and patient, and took their time with him so he didn't stress out. I just couldn't give 5 stars because the cut wasn't really what I wanted. I told them twice I didn't want it too short, but they did it like a buzz-cut. Oh well, it's hair, it will grow back. No. Just no. I went here to buy stuff for my dog that I was getting a couple days after: 1. I don't blame the employees or necessarily THIS petco, but they barely had anything stocked (I blame the company for not shipping their products) I bought a cute red simple food and water bowl, which "required' a bowl with it. They only had one small stainless steel bowl left, and the girl was looking all over the boxes that had been shipped that day. Nope, it wasn't there. The poor girl looked all over the place for it, so I felt bad and just bought the one metal bowl anyway. 2. It disgusted me how dusty the place was. I bought a Treats Jar which was on clearance, and when I looked inside, there was a LOT of dust bunnies. I remember thinking, oh whatever I'll clean it. But, I remember looking at the shelves and the other products and it had a thin layer of dust EVERYWHERE. 3. This didn't happen to me, but I witnessed poor customer service. Two guys in front of me wanted to change some paper thing that he paid $50 for, into some sort of gift card. Another petco employee spoke to him with extreme attitude, with hand on his hip and leaning against the shelf. He spoke to those customers with a tone that you wouldn't even use to friends. 4. I went into the petco grooming place to ask about how much they charge generally. The guy looked as if he didn't give any care in the world, and treated me with almost the same rudeness as the employee talking to the guys. I even caught him rolling his eyes at me at one point, I then cut him off and left the section. Customers should NOT have to deal with this sort of thing. It's ridiculous. read more

The worst part is when I ask her what happened and what our dog was doing during this hour of waiting she answered me like she didn't do anything wrong and that it was completely normal. read more

Horrible customer service. I walked in with my tank water to be tested and needed to purchase items as well. They call over their aquatics worker and she's helping me but basically putting me down at every turn and speaking to me like I'm a child. I explained my situation but I guess she wasn't listening so she asked me the same questions over and over. I did have a lot of questions myself and while I'm speaking with her, she takes a call on I hope is her work phone and tells me she'll be back. So my 5 year old son and I are looking around, picking up what we need but also waiting to get her opinion on our options. After waiting 20 minutes (she did not return) I decided that I was going to petsmart instead (petsmart is further for me but it was the best decision since they were AWESOME). After I set my stuff down I walked out and there was the same lady just in the front while I was waiting for her for 20 min. Side note: their fish in the tank had ick and clearly no one was doing anything about it since it was multiple fish in multiple tanks. read more

So, I took my dog here to get her nails clipped, as I was in the store recently and heard over the loud speaker that they offer nail trimmings for a mere $10. I thought that was a great deal, so I signed up my Riley for her first trim. We arrived around 10:00 am with my pup anxiously pulling on the leash. Let's just say that she was a bit excited. We walk in an some kid was operating the computer and phone. He acted as though he was asleep, high, or some combination of the two. As he asked a few questions about my dog, he inquired as to her rabies vacinations. As she is current, and she was wearing the tags to prove it, I figured this would be simple. Apparently not. He could not grasp that the expiration date for the shots was on her tag, provided by the vet. He then proceeded to call the vet but he kept calling the wrong one. Ugh. My dog was growing more curious by the minute. This endeavour lasted a good 15 minutes. Riley was less than patient as other dogs filtered in and out of the shop and she was asked to wait patiently. When he finally understood that she indeed had her shots and the tags were vaild, the real distaster began. Instead of bringing Riley back to the grooming station, he walked out from behind the counter and proceeded to clip her nails on the dirty floor while I had to hold her to keep her from moving (REALLY?? I COULD HAVE DONE THIS ON MY OWN!!!) As I laid on my 60lb mutt, this kid (when I say kid, I mean he was probably 19 yrs old) was clipping her nails and cut them too far back! There was blood everywhere and he didn't know how to stop the bleeding. Needless to say, I was furious. And on top of that, he decided that he didn't want to trim the back claws! I paid $1.00 per nail, and he did a crappy job! I had to pay for him to hurt my dog. It seemed like some back alley sort of deal with me lying on the floor in the shop. I will NEVER bring my dog here for ANY sort of service. I actually haven't been back to the store since, and I really don't plan on going back. If you love your dog and don't want to see them hurt, or if you don't want to lie on the floor of your local Petco, PLEASE do not bring them here. Oh, and the guy NEVER apologized for his mistakes. I am straining to give this Petco even one star. The customer service is terrible. The grooming salon is very disappointing. They lost my reservation and then acted like I had never made one. They even showed me the schedule on their computer, to prove that it wasn't in there. Not my fault you made a mistake. I have been trying to setup an appointment with the grooming salon. I was put on hold 7 times. Every time the lady come back on the phone she asks me over and over the same question. Not her fault. She must be overwhelmed and she can't hear you well with all the dogs barking in the back. Why the store manager don't setup better condition for their employees to work. I almost lost patience and wanted to take on her and I realize, the MANAGER of the store is to be blame. I just hope this is not the same lady that take appointments and groom the dogs. read more

I often take my dog to Petco to be groomed. To start, they didn't cut my dogs hair correctly. The lady at the front spoke very little English and was hard to understand. I think there was some confusion. Secondly, I had a coupon for 10% off and nobody in the store had any idea of how to use it. I thought it was expensive too. $64. read more

I can't believe I have to write this as we have been patrons of this store for two decades. The store managers and staff have always been nice, and our puppy was even trained there. Their dog grooming department is ruining this store and I am not exaggerating, that entire staff/manager needs to be fired ASAP. They do not allow appointments for small services like nail trims, only for full services which is understandable. Everything else is "walk in" but there have been multiple times now where we "walked in" and were told to come back later, only to be turned away again the same or next day. No one is there to acknowledge the problems, or even the presence of customers waiting 5-10 minutes. No apologies. Do not even consider the $20 vital care service, you will NEVER get service without some sort of run around. If you are busy, hire more staff (especially someone at the front to acknowledge customers...basic customer service 101), or start taking appointments for EVERYTHING and stop allowing walk ins. This would save frustration for both your staff and customers. read more

I will start this off by saying the instore customer service I received was good with a nice greeting at the door and got the help I needed quickly. So I purchased two rats from this location as pets and upon bringing them home noticed a little sneezing from one of them, didn't think too much about it since it was a new home and rats are known to sneeze a little in getting used to a new environment. The next day one of the poor baby rats was in complete distress and I quickly rushed it to the vet not thinking about the 30-day guarantee that Petco offers with the purchase of a small animal. During the vet visit, I called Petco and spoke with the manager and was told them what was going on and that the rat needed to be hospitalized I was told that since it was too late and the vet that's on call for them was closed I had to wait until tomorrow. I was able to stabilize the rat till the next morning to take into the store. That was Saturday morning that he was taken in and I was told they would call me later that afternoon for an update. I never received a call so after worrying I called the vet to get an update but was told I was not allowed that information so I had to call Petco again and FINALLY got the update that they hospitalized him and they will call again with an update if anything changed. I let a couple of days go by since and It is now Tuesday so I started worrying again since not hearing anything, so I called multiple times that afternoon and was told I would get a call later that day with an update. IT NEVER CAME. So it is now Wednesday and called again and spoke with a manager that said he had heard of the rat that was at the vet and that it had passed away on Monday. TWO DAYS PASSED WITH NO COMMUNICATION TO ME!!! I gave Petco a chance after hearing bad stories of getting pets from them, and now I understand those stores. And after all that I just asked if I could get my carrier and other personal belongings back that I used to drop the poor baby rat off in and ONCE AGAIN I was told I would get a call when they found it. I wasn't surprised that they never called me back. So I took into my own hands calling the vet myself and asking for it back. Thankfully the vet had my things or else I don't think I would ever get it back. I don't think I will be coming back even for my dog's things after that experience. read more

Jake HATES to get his nails clipped and I warned them about that but asked that they not stress him out since he's not been feeling well lately. 'Rebecca', who told me she's normally a dog trainer, had another person who worked there clip his nails while she soothed him. He was happy and his nails were well clipped. How can you be a dog groomer and be scared to handle any dog. Take you dog to Canine Classics they are so good and knows how to handle dogs. read more

I was at the Burke, VA location (Old Keene Mill Rd.) to get my dog's rabies vaccination. Vaccination timing is from 2 pm to 3:30 pm on Sundays. I reached there at 1:45 pm as suggested by a staff member that I called prior to my visit. After waiting in the line for over 90 minutes I found that the line was just to get the dog's form filled out! After I got that done, I was then asked to go outside the storefront where there was another line to get the dog vaccinated, in a van parked outside the Petco, right next to the road!! Firstly, I think it is outrageous that anybody should have to wait that long in a line only to get a form filled out and then go out of the store to wait again (possibly another hour) to get your dog vaccinated!...Secondly, it seems unsafe to wait outside the store next to the road with your dog when there are several passing vehicles right next to you! Mine and most people's pets that were out there were well behaved, however, it seems like Petco is taking a huge risk in having the pet owners and their pets wait for dog vaccination right next to the road (between the Petco and the parking lot). Also, they should have more staff members deployed to handle this service, especially considering that they provide this service only one day of the weekend (Sunday - which is when most people can take their pets), and also, that they try to cross-sell products to people while they are getting the forms filled out. When I found that I would have to wait again (outside the store) to get my dog vaccinated, I went back inside the store and returned the dog tag they gave me and I declined their extremely slow and sad service. Update on 4/23/18: I provided all info as requested by Elizabeth of Petco the same day (4/9/18), however, no one has yet contacted me for a clarification or a courtesy follow up regarding my initial review and experience on 4/9. THE VERDICT IS :- PETCO HAS HORRIBLE VACCINATION SERVICE AND THEY KNOW IT! THEY DON'T WANT TO DO ANYTHING TO FIX OR ADDRESS IT! read more

Made 2 different appts for grooming and was turned away both times. The first time, they had no record of my appt. Ok, maybe just a mistake. I came home and called to schedule again for the following week at 1:00. Went in and was told that my dog's appt was at 12:30 and they couldn't take him anymore. This is just not possible. I KNOW i made the appt for 1:00 because of my schedule today. I now see there's a call from this store at 9:00 am with no message and another at 12:48 pm saying I'm late and they can't take him. It's a holiday and I'm sure they're busy. I'm convinced they changed his appt without notification in order to justify turning him away. read more

This review is for the Puppy play time program in this Petco location. We went for this program for our 3 month GSD starts few weeks ago, it was announced "FREE" for Petco customers, but NO! Actually they want you to sign up for their training program later on, once they know you are not going to do it, you are Sure welcome to LEAVE! They will find silly reasons from your puppy that saying: he is not fitting here! or he is too big for other puppies" REALLY?! I don't think these people are truly love animals, all they want is The Money In Your Pocket!! Never a Petco fan, now proves more for not going to this store in the future! read more

Went in yesterday for replenishing dog food.... ended up meeting a wonderful employee. Don't know his name but he was wearing a grey shirt. Helped us in learning about Meerkats and even let us handle one for a few minutes!! We eventually got our food and it was supposed to be 10% off for a promotion. When we got to the register it didn't show up. The same gentleman was ringing us up, and he understood the screen wasn't showing the discount and helped us further! We received unsatisfactory customer service today at the Burke, VA store. Spring-like weather arrived a few weeks ago and it was readily apparent that our two miniature schnauzers will need relief from the coats they grew for warmth during the winter. We called almost two weeks ago and scheduled an appointment for them with the grooming salon. We've been patrons of the store and salon for a year. We received a voicemail from their groomer the evening before the scheduled appointment who told us there was an error made with the booking and that only one dog had a reservation. He said he knew we always bring both dogs in at the same time and asked us to call and confirm if we wanted an appointment for both dogs. When we called the next day to confirm we indeed wanted an appointment for both dogs, we were told an error was made on our appointment and that the salon was now full and we could only bring one dog. We discussed the situation with the manger, Sol Griffin, who offered no solutions other than to reschedule both dogs the next weekend or bring in one dog at a later date. The seemingly unwilling attitude and lack of creativity to resolve the problem created by his employee's error didn't seem very manager-like to us. We have found another grooming salon and will take our business there in the future. I recommend some problem-solving managerial training for the Burke, VA store in the hopes that they don't lose other repeat customers in the future. Best wishes. read more

What topped the cake was the girl at the checkout that touched the bag of cat liter and exclaimed "Eeww!". Really? It's a pet store.
