I'm giving this location a 5 stars simply because of one thing: Josh. The employee by the name of Josh he is the greatest employee I've ever seen in my life. I had to take a breath before writing this review. So frustrating when you have to discuss issues with a company and their representatives that project a personality that they "do not care!" Before I start, I want to acknowledge I am talking about a $7 issue! Issue: I wanted to return a defective dog toy. It was bought 6 weeks ago and Petco has a 30 day return policy that is not mentioned on receipt nor backside of my receipt. I left store and called the customer service line! Another story which I will not bore you more. But, similar personality! To me, the issue of 30 day return policy for $7 should not matter! A customer is in your store and highly likely will be buying more - NOT this time!!! The competition of Chewy and Pet Smart should be enough incentive to provide customer service that creates an atmosphere for the customer to return and buy again! Obviously PetCo does not care! So, I will make it known to my many pet friends NOT to buy at PetCo. If PetCo is reading this, I was going to buy dog food - $85! Went for beginner level training for our dog. Sorry to say, she didn't learn much. The trainer Austin was nice enough but not prepared for the classes. Everything seemed to be a spur of the moment decision on what training situation was going to happen. Not the closest Petco to me but it's near my mom's so I'll pop in every so often when I'm in the neighborhood to find my pups a new collar, harness, or goofy sweater. I love their Bond & Co. line and it's my go-to for cute, functional gear for my pups, but I have to say, this particular Petco is perhaps the most disorganized I've ever been to when it comes to apparel. Their stock is great, and I think they carry more than my store in Ann Arbor, but it's not organized in any meaningful way. All the pieces are just thrown onto the racks. Not by size, not by style, nothing. And the racks are overpacked so picking through must makes a huge mess as pieces fall onto the floor. I was looking for one particular size of a jacket and it was like a tornado came through by the time I finished. And I tried to be as careful as possible! It's just terribly structured. I think if they take the time to reorganize and carefully arrange the stock they could be a great shop. The rest of the store is organized, I don't know why this section is such a mess. read more

My problem was in the section with all the fish music background fish splashes was playing, it made me very uncomfortable It's almost as if they wanted me to leave the fish section. We have a chocolate lab puppy named Krü and we had signed him up for level one puppy class. Michael is our trainer and at the first class he had asked each one of us what we want to work on and what we want to accomplish. After introducing everyone he took each one of us off to the side and worked one on one for about ten minutes then let us work with our dog. He kept coming back to check on how we were doing which was very nice. These classes are only an hour but he worked with us for over an hour and a half, we were the last class of the day. Michael is vey knowledgeable and very patient with the dogs and us! We have been to two classes now and Michael has given us plenty of helpful tips and tricks. I don't know anything about the other trainers but I can say Michael is a great trainer and very passionate about what he does, highly recommend Michael! read more

I have been coming to this Petco since March of 2019. Training- I was originally drawn into the free puppy play time for age qualifying dogs we had recently adopted our first puppy. Free anything is hard to find but we were so lucky because we met an amazing trainer Jake! My puppy was definitely more timid and I was so worried that he would never come out of it. Religiously we went to the Saturday and Sunday puppy play time until he aged out. We have done Puppy 1, Puppy 2, and are currently in Adult Two. I can not recommend Training at this Petco enough and more so even training with Jake. I do wish the store invested more into a training space because it is small and working in the store can become hard while people are shopping or if there is a big training class. Products- They have a great return policy basically if it doesn't work out for any reason you can return it. I have used the return policy and never been hassled. The prices are typically higher than what you would find on maybe Chewy. Petco will match their own online prices, so if you are looking at a bigger investment like a training collar or gate check on their website first. Staff- Nice, helped when I asked. Other than that nothing really note worthy. Rewards system- Basically if you have the rewards loaded on the account then you have to use them on the next purchase. I didn't like that because I didn't know if my training collar would work and didn't want to lose my rewards. The staff was nice and did say they think I would somehow get them back, be able to apply them to another purchase, etc. Grooming- The lady that is always in there looks angry. I did attempt to get my dogs nails trimmed once when in more than an hour before close stood at the desk 10 minutes no worker. Overall, my rating is primarily based on my training experience. I would still give the whole store 5 stars. read more

Oh my God. After five and one half hours, we just went to get the dog. We were told"about three hours first. At the four hour mark, she called us to say "your dog is ok". What does that mean??? The groomer said "she is almost done". I told her I had plans (this was Saturday night) and and she had to be picked up by 6:30. My husband went to pick her up at 630 and she Was on the table, and all that was done was her face. She looked ridiculous. No other animals nor customers. He asked for a manager but that was useless. Honestly I won't take my 7 year old Havanese anywhere else to be groomed. He loves One of the groomers Kia, and she does a great job with him. No matter how matted his coat might get (he hates to be brushed) she never cuts to the skin. I didn't originally plan on writing this review but I feel it is necessary that my story is heard. Just so your family doesn't fall in love with your pet (like mine) and than suddenly out of no where have it meet its end. (Not blaming the store but still confused on how a healthy bird can meet this fate) In October we purchased our sun conure and quickly bonded with our bird. We had spent close to a year doing research on what pet was right for us. After visiting Petco in Canton several times - We decided a certain sweetheart of a bird was for us!) When we bought the bird (not cheap) we bought just about every accessory - special food - toys galore - a great big cage and perch. Our bird was super happy and we spent tons of time socializing and enjoying him with our small kids. Sadly on Valentine's Day our beloved angel literally dropped dead before our 7 year olds eyes. He started screeching and his head went back and his wings seemed to have gone stiff fully spread and within seconds fell to the bottom of his cage no longer breathing. It was a very sad day for our family after growing so close to a pet that should've lived for 15-20 years. We went to Petco to inform them of what had happened, not saying it was there fault but to simply let them know that they may obtain there birds from a bad breeder. When we spoke to our friend/also an vet whom has tons of experience with birds she informed us that this was odd and we were doing everything right so it was a possibility that the bird could've had a congenital defect. Anyhow, explaining all this to Petco's manager I felt that he really didn't care. He seemed to speak without listening and really didn't want to be bothered. When people who really care about pets invest in your store, no matter the dollar amount someone in charge should probably be a little more sensitive to them. (In a perfect world) Also the food we were told was the birds recommended food (by teenage employee in October) was in fact not the right food for 3 month old sun conures. If you work at a pet store you should probably get your facts straight or educate your employees better. Our vet informed us 2 weeks after we bought the bird that the food they recommended was for large macaws. I will most definitely never do business here again. My money mattered - myself or my feathered friend, not so much. read more

I took my baby girl to the groomer. Everyone was very pleasant. They even assisted in finding my vets number an DC called to verify my baby girl had her rabies vaccine. Because duh me forgot the paper work at home. It was a very pleasant experience and my baby girl came out all nice and clean and smelling like pumpkin spice. Thanks Petco Groomers. Well truthfully, I've never had much of an issue here. I love the dog socials, those are my favorite. The people here seem very helpful too. There was just one major issue I had with this place. I went in there to buy a bark collar for my dog (I had two dogs that needed them but couldn't afford two collars). The bark collar I chose was $156. No cheap at all! But they said if it didn't work to just bring it back so I figured 'what the hey, I'll try it out'. When I got home I looked on Amazon to see how much they sold it for. I was SHOCKED to see they had the exact same one for less than HALF the price at Petco. They were selling it brand new for $60. I went back to Petco the next day and asked if they'd price match it to which they said no. So I returned it and bought two of those bark collars on Amazon for less than the price of ONE at Petco. I was disapointed to hear they'd rather pass up business than price match. Not good business in my opinion. read more

As far as a pet supply store goes this place is a little above average. They have some toys, an okay selection of pet food, and a decent selection of dog bones. As far as a pet shop goes this place is weak. They some some birds, some reptiles, 3 cats, and no dogs. They do have a decent selection of salt and fresh water fish. Nothing about this place has a wow factor. There aren't very many people around to help and what staff that is around can be somewhat sarcastic at times. If I could rate it 0 stars I would. I took my puppy to get a bath and blow dry today. The groomer told me she was to big for the puppy price even though she's under the age requirement. After 3 hours I went to pick her up and her tail and back end were soaking wet. I asked her why she was wet and if she could dry her before she gets into my car. She told me she didn't have time to dry her again and handed me a towel at me for me to wipe her down. I'm so disappointed and frustrated. I payed full price for a blow dry and got a wet dog back. When I got home there's a sticky substance all over her belly. I got her back dirtier than when I took her. I will not be going back. read more

I just can't even believe what happened at this store. I'm outraged. I was with my family when my 2 year old daughter was almost attacked by a huge dog. Unbelievably they were doing training with this dog down an isle in the back and it almost got away from the owner barked and started for my daughter. After that I heard the trainer say oh it's ok and laugh a little. My daughter was so scared she peed herself. I'm sure that there is supposed to be some sort of gated area where they do training so I'm going to call corporate and file a complaint. Please do not take young children into this store. read more

The groomers are great HOWEVER no one answers the phone to make appointments and if they do they will put you on hold for an inordinate amount of time. I put up with this for over a year but today I had enough of it. I spoke to the store supervisor who was dismissive and could have cared less. He did nothing to resolve the situation . I went into the store and it was like every other store until I got to the checkout. There was an employee with a dog claiming to be for therapy. The dog didn't seem to care for me due to the dog charging at me while growling. The dog also was growling and barking at other dogs it seen. Employee didn't seem to bothered by the fact that the dog could have bitten me. I thought I had found a new store for my pet supplies but I refuse to go back after that traumatic experience. If you get into the PetCo pals membership (cause everyone has to have a club now) you can accumulate significant discounts and coupons. My older pup is so much fresher after her bath, nails, and teeth are done. And as she is at times a grumpy old dog they are surprisingly accommodating to her attitudes and needs. read more

Wow, I've never encountered a business so completely inept. I went in to this store on 3/9/2018 looking to PURCHASE a complete Glofish setup with tank, filters and about 10 fish. I spent half an hour simply trying to find somebody to help me bag up some fish. I talked to TWO separate employees who told me they would be there in a sec but could not be bothered to stop stocking cat food or playing with another customers dog to actually make a sale. I left pissed off and ended up spending over $200 buying the same stuff at PetSmart, which is a good thing, since they were quick to help out. Very poor customer service. Called the day prior to our pets grooming appointment to cancel it because he "moves too much to be scheduled on the weekend". If I could give this particular Petco store no stars, I would. To be perfectly honest, I don't usually shop at Petco. I live much closer to a PetSmart, and I've never had a bad experience there. Today, having seen a Petco ad that piqued my interest, I decided to give this store a try. I went in and found what I was looking for without any problems. It's worth mentioning that I was not once offered assistance by an employee, although I really didn't mind at the time. What bothered me was this store's cat adoption area. I walked around a corner with my merchandise in hand and stumbled upon a set of four cat cages. Naturally, I stopped to give the cats a bit of attention. I was absolutely appalled by the condition of the cages. They were disgusting, and looked like they hadn't been cleaned in at least a week. The cats themselves felt filthy; it was as if their cages were so dirty that the cats couldn't possibly keep themselves clean. To make matters worse, one of the cats had an eye infection that looked as if nobody had even attempted to treat it. Another cat's claws were so long and sharp that they were beginning to curl up and poke into the bottom of her paws. All four of them were completely filthy and seemed to be in less-than-good health. I wish I was exaggerating, but unfortunately for these poor cats, I'm not. I was so offended by this that I dropped my merchandise on the nearest shelf and left the store immediately. On my way out, I saw a bunch of employees sitting/standing around and talking to one another. Obviously, this only offended me further. I would think that one of them could forego social time, get off their a**, and go make sure that all the animals in the store have a clean, comfortable space in which to live until they are adopted out to good homes. I sincerely hope that other Petco stores do not neglect their resident cats (or any animals, for that matter) like this. I have already filed a complaint with Petco directly, and I will be checking to see if my concerns are taken seriously. If there is not a marked improvement in these cats' living conditions, I will report it to the humane society. The manager(s) and employees of this store should be ashamed of themselves. Make no mistake about it, what I have just described is animal abuse. And it is reprehensible. Shame on all of you. read more

I usually go to the petco in Ann Arbor, and the staff never quite seems to know what they are talking about. Not the case here! They have a wonderful selection of saltwater fish, and the staff member who was dealing with the fish was very knowledgeable about the fish.
