I was treated very poorly at your store. I went in as I normally do. 3 employees were at the registers and no one acknowledged me for the pick-up. So I walked through the store looking for another employee and there were none. So I came back to the front and finally caught the attention of the girl behind the register and said I have a pick-up. She told me to "sign in" on line and they will get to me. Or I could wait on the check-out line until I was "next". I told her that I order and pay online so I do not have to wait in any check-out lines. I picked up my item over her yelling at me that I was not allowed to touch it, that I needed to wait. I told her I have already paid for this and I am taking MY property. She said if I leave the store she will call the police. Then a young man who was in the office came out and told me that I needed ID to take MY property. I showed him my credit card with my name on it (matching the order) and he said that was not sufficient, that I needed a driver's license of passport. So I showed him my driver's license and left. This is TERRIBLE customer service and completely unprofessional employees. If another pet store carried the product I need Petco would be losing a customer. read more

Well my best friend just brought some fishes yesterday and he figured it out that each fishes that he brought had fungus so the employee by the aquarium area support to ask my friend to check the fishes if he has any fungus or any problem before buying him the employee was not supposed to give him the fishes without asking that's not a, professional employee worker by the aquarium we need professional aquarium employees workers that really know how to clean the fishes tanks and to check on them and feed them to see if theses fishes are oh okay in this Petco. In the front we need more employees on the front in the cash registers in this Petco and they need two guys in the aquarium department one guy to clean the fish tanks and the other guy will check on the fish to see if they are died or old and in the fish department that area should be busy not to quite it should be one guy should have there lunch and then went the other guy is done with his shift the other guy should go and take his fish aquarium shift because we need real professional employees in the aquarium department for this Petco. read more

I would have selected zero stars. My wife and son went to the Petco in Clifton off Route 3. They purchased five platies. Two days later, two of them died and the following day we lost two more. I noticed my original two red-eyed Tetra's weren't looking good either. With that said one of them died. The following day we also lost our algae eater. And the following day, the last two had passed. All of this in less than a week. I went to the store and complained. The associate asked me for a water sample. My original two fish and algae eater were fine until I bought those five platies. I should have known better we had a similar issue with fish we purchased about a year and a half ago. I will NEVER shop there again. Anyone who reads this --BEWARE. Petco you should be ashamed. read more

Went there today with the intention of meeting either a ferret or chinchilla to add to the family. We have experience owning both. They did not have ferrets on today's visit so we inquired about interacting with the 2 chinchillas they had. Upon asking we were VERY rudely informed by the woman at the counter that they could not be handled. I am not purchasing an animal without any idea of its disposition and as I stated, we are experienced owners and understand that chinchillas can be extremely shy. There were multiple quiet back rooms we could have been allowed to meet with the animals calmly and safely, but instead your cashier (approximately 1:45pm) talked potential customers out of a sale. Way to go. We had a much, MUCH better experience at the Totowa Petco. read more

went there today Sunday September 29, store manager Michael was awful. To all of us there is customer service, then there is also not wanting to do your job. Michael not only spent over 25 minutes with one customer, also refused to acknowledge the customers that were waiting for his assistance. Part of being a great employee is knowing how to answer questions and move on to the next customer. This person Michael was terrible at communicating and acknowledging people waiting for his assistance. It was so bad that I just left the store and went to Absolutely Fish on Route 46. Absolutely Fish is an excellent source of information regarding all types of fish. I think Petco does not realize that people do not have to go to their store. Other options are available. If Petco staff is going to react in this increasingly adverse manner soon they will have no customers. read more

The driving force behind me driving to Petco in Clifton was due to all of the PetValU stores closing, otherwise, I would not have gone there. However, my Lab needed a bath. It should be noted that prior to this visit, I viewed the Petco website for this store and was impressed that a photo of a totally renovated doggie wash area had been completed. (Or so I thought.) As I approached the back of the store it became evident that nothing had been done in many years to improve or replace the old, antiquated stainless steel wash tubs still in place within the very small wash rooms. In affect, the photo shown on the website was a blatant misrepresentation of the dog wash facilities! Although I was now annoyed, I had come this far and still needed to bathe my dog. As much as I tried, she would NOT climb up the VERY STEEP metal ramp into the tub. I first had to lift out the sluice gate to create an opening. She would not budge as she did not like this tub at all. Running out of patience, I returned to the register and received a refund. For fellow Yelpers, know that I had written and posted an earlier review of this facility dated 6/12/2015, with similar complaints. That review can still be found on Yelp. As a result of this recent visit, I contacted Petco Corporate via a written (email) msg bringing to their attention the fact that renovation of the wash stations had NEVER been done and that portraying newly constructed wash stations on their site is conflicting! As a result, I received a lame, useless response from Petco. Customer Service is nonexistent and I will never return to this location nor do I have any lingering respect for the Petco name. read more

The new staff is more friendly. The cashiers are also helpful and welcoming to my dog. However, one time when I went the male manager gave me a nasty attitude when I asked about the reptile section being 50-60% off. He said it's not discounted so then I showed him the Petco email I received and come to find out he forgot to put out the discounted price tags. Not my fault you forgot. No reason to give me attitude when I ask you questions about the reptile products. Also, Petco often has a problem with their coupons. The friendly cashier assured that this happens often and they'll figure it out. After waiting 10 minutes they got it to go through. I don't mind though because they entertained my dog with treats for the time being. Corporate should figure out the problem with their coupons. Some of your fish tanks are way too crowded. Any experienced fish owner knows a goldfish needs 20 gallons per fish. Your goldfish tank doesn't even have plants or rocks. You wouldn't recommend a customer put this many fish in a tank without any plants or rocks, so why do u do it? They're fighting for space and are depressed from being in a plain tank and barely and room to swim. They need a natural environment while they're in the store. read more

Took our dog for the self wash and it was horrible. The store is very dirty, they even had a cricket hoping around. Shame on me for not checking but when I booked the wash I was under the impression it was $20 but they ask you if you want a half hour or an hour so I took the hour, we'll they charge you twice for an hour but didn't tell me that originality. Anyway, the actual room to bath your pet is also disgusting, they had used towels in there and looked like the place hadn't been cleaned ever. Than they only had one bottle of some unknown cleaner, didn't know if it was conditioner or shampoo cause it's not labeled. The other thing I don't like about it is the door is glass and anyone or any pet in the store can see you so obviously as I'm cleaning my dog he can see other dogs walking by. Definitely don't recommend coming here for the self service wash, I probably wouldn't even come here to buy anything either. read more

After 15min standing around the one employee came towards me again, I then asked him I needed help with a fish purchase. I luv my local Petco. They have everything you could possibly need for your pet. The staff is friendly and helpful and it's very clean. What I luv most about this Petco is that they have self-wash facilities so that you can bathe your dog yourself. It's great, you have your own little private room. It has a stainless steel washing basin, shampoo, towels and hairdryers. It's by appointment but I usually never have a problem getting her in. And it's only $16 bucks! And the best part.....you walk out with a clean pooch and leave the mess behind!!! read more

I just had to write this because this petco is great! Giovanni went above and beyond to help me and my bf get two ferrets. He explained how to care for them and guided us to what we needed. He was patient answering all of our questions. We bought our first ferret from him a couple of months ago and just got another one yesterday thanks to him ! Also Heidi heard we wanted a bell collar for our new ferret but there were none on the floor so she went through a couple of boxes and found us the collar we wanted! They are just amazing and you can tell they love helping people. That is genuine customer service ! I love this store we live about 30 mins away but It's the only petco we go to! This petco is small and not too much options. We went here for fishes, aquarium and the goodies.. there really aren't many choices of fishes that you would want to buy. I've been to the other petco in paramus and their layout is much better and their tanks are cleaner looking with plenty of fishes to choose from. The guy that help us with the tank was nice and informed us we needed to do a cycle first before bringing fishes home. read more

I brought my dog here for vaccine and the doctors and staff was just not welcoming. One of the staff named Andrew was just very impatient. He kept implying I should get my dog training for the way she was behaving. Granted she isn't trained but she clearly knows what's going on and is very uncomfortable at the moment so instead of being patient with her they were just trying to rush the process. As well as having me comfort my dog like as doctors and a team that works with animals I feel like they didn't have the compassion even the doctor! Like imagine these people working with kids, like are you going to get frustrated that a kid is fidgeting And crying ? I would not recommend their vetco. Side note: the cashier was very pleasant, gave my dog a kiss and a treat so that was cool. read more

By far the worst Petco I have been too. Crazy small, not many options, and everything is OVERPRICED. A dog crate on sale was $119. No thanks. However, it only got worse when I brought my puppy in for a self -wash. Will not be back again. I was going to go to Pet Valu as I heard it was cheaper but since it was Sunday, they closed at 6 and I was a bit too late. I decided to give Petco a try, never did a self-wash here before so I asked how to get started. The associate just said, pay up front, then just go to the back. Simple enough right? Went to pay for the wash, came out to about $17. Pretty pricey considering online it stated it was $10. My pup needed a wash badly though so I paid for it anyway. Went to the back, there were two rooms, One had the door open so I walked in. An employee came in and said this room was reserved for someone already. I said ok and he asked if I had a reservation. I said no that I just paid up front so he said he would get a room ready for me. There really should be signs for instructions.... He got the shampoo and towels ready for me so I walked in. The place was filthy.... Hair everywhere. Nowhere to hang my jacket so I had to put it on the drying station with my pup's leash. Bad mistake as so much hair got on both, I guess no one cleans up any of the stations after they are used. I ended up taking my jacket and the leash and putting it on top of all the actual bottles of shampoos, which by the way were mostly opened. I looked at the three bottles that were on the table for me, they were all in mixer bottles. One was green, one blue, and one pink. I had no idea which was which so I had to pick up the actual gallon bottles they were in (where my jacket was) to see what they were. I don't understand why there aren't labels on the bottles at all. I was provided a few towels, they weren't great and looked like they have been used way too many times, but I dried my pup off and moved him over to the table to blow dry him. This is where I got even more frustrated.. The table was so wobbly, he was shaking while he was standing I had to steady him. Then, on top of that, there was no tether to keep him in place, it was on the floor, I guess broken. Mind you, I just got my pup from a rescue yesterday and I knew blow drying him was going to scare him since he was already freaking out in the tub. As soon as I turned on the blow dryer, he freaked out and went crazy. He tried to jump off the table multiple times and I had to catch him then put him back on the table. I ended up having him kinda in a headlock, his head was under my arm pit and I kept him in place like that. It was absolutely terrible. I didn't have both my hands to properly dry him off, so he was a little wet still when we left. I can't believe what a terrible experience and I definitely won't be back here for anything. Do yourself a favor and go to other self wash locations because for $17, it's a complete rip off. Go Pet Valu in Clifton, I heard it was $10 for the first half hour. Side note: I just read another review by Ken below mine that was posted in June of 2015 saying that the rooms were going to be renovated. Well, sorry to break it to you guys but there has been no renovation done. read more

I had a very nice guy that was knowledgable, smart, friendly, nice, and went out of his way to be very helpful. He even gave me a coupon book and spent a lot of time searching through it and cutting coupons for me, which was great. Location: Super convenient right on Rt 3, but if you are going the other direction you can get in through the back. Close by to lots of restaurants and other stores too. Selection: They have anything and everything, definitely a one stop shop for your pet needs. It is not boutique at all, very mainstream as a chain, which is good and bad. I like it because if you are clueless on what you need, you can see all the options, and then decide if you want to go bespoke or not. Pricing: Not great, you pay a premium, but all pet stores are expensive as anything. Online you can get anything for less, but you have to put in the time and energy, versus just browsing the store and piling things in the cart. read more

This PETCO is very into community service. It isn't the prettiest PETCO, but it has the best customer service. I was asked over and over if I needed assistance. The store was well organized. I came here for puppy playtime and it was great. Brought my 8 week old. The following week I was told by the trainer that my pup needed all of his shots. I told him he had his first set but he insisted he needed to have all of them. So basically needed to be at least 4 months. What's the purpose of puppy playtime since if you are fully vaccinated you can just go to the park and socialize your dog there? The website clearly says "8 weeks to 6 months". These people are great. They all are big pet lovers and are super helpful. I brought my dog in for vaccinations today. She's not good around other dogs. When we were leaving one of the employees stood in an aisle to make sure my dog couldn't see the other dogs. They all were petting her and you could see how much they love animals. I don't understand the bad reviews... Yea it's small, but the staff is amazing. I went for the "puppy playtime" per a friends recommendation. I took my 4 month puppy whom, at the time, had not been around other humans or puppies or even outside our house:.. Because it is a smaller store, there were no other puppies when we showed up for puppy playtime.. But the staff ran around the store to find puppies to join. There is a trainer overlooking the playtime who helps encourage the puppy to play and guides the owner in positive enforcement behaviors. I'm a fan.. read more
