I went in to Petco to pickup one item that my dog needed for aches. I've been very careful about COVID-19, masking, distancing, and being as safe as possible. The store had a COVID-19 mandatory masking sign on the door, and I was relieved. After walking inside the Petco, I realized it was JUST A SIGN. There was a checkout person with a half face shield (which does NOTHING to safeguard or deter COVID-19). COVID-19 sheds from the NOSE and vapor from the mouth. The other checkout person had a mask only over their mouth with their nose and nostrils fully exposed (this does NOTHING to safeguard or deter COVID-19). In addition there were two customers non-masked with clear shields (which do NOTHING to safeguard or deter COVID-19 without a MASK OVER NOSE & MOUTH. [Face masks remain at the core of the CDC's recommendations for protecting yourself and others against COVID-19. However, plastic face shields do not provide adequate protection from COVID-19 when used by themselves as an alternative to cloth face masks. Sep 1, 2020] Petco Eden Prairie does not care about protecting you from COVID-19. The signs on the doors are just signs to Petco. Petco does not adhere to safe COVID-19 preventative guidelines to protect or keep you safe. I set the bottle of Vet's Best Aches & Pains for dogs down, and bought a 3X supply on Amazon and saved $10. Disappointed with the petco vet set up and customer service. It's clear the highly trained and educated vets resent having to work in an isle and their performance and attitude reflect it. I felt bad for them because I know they didn't get into the animal business only to be set up for failure by their big box store not providing an adequate space or staff to handle even the most accommodating customers. read more

Not only do they do a poor job, but they also have no respect, and will even turn you away for being a few minutes late. I wish I could give this place zero stars. I was there today to see if they had a pet adoption going on. I was in the grooming aisle when I witnessed one of the groomers doing a nail trim on a dog. She had him on the table tied on a neck leash. He was turning at her, foaming at the mouth, growling and show his teeth at her. She kept going. The owner was just outside watching this happen. I was in tears so angry and sad for this poor dog. Never ever is it okay to force an animal to that point. If you ever witness your dog reacting this way, they aren't doing their jobs right. I'm a certified veterinary technician and fear free certified. This is never okay. I saw no signs of positive reinforcement, just restraints. No treats, nothing. This animal was stressed out of its mind...do you think anyone is ever going to have luck trimming those nails in the future? No. My heart is broken because this was so not right. Do not push animals like this!!!! Do not ever allow this for your animal/s because there are so many fear free non-stressful ways to handle things like these and make it a positive experience and leaving happy and full. Not angry and stressed! Please just know there are always so many other options in making your pet happy and healthy! -Side note I was so close to filming this, but for the owner and dogs respect I decided not to. We brought Abby in last week, on March 27th. I would have written this review earlier, but I suppressed my anger until today. As I petted my beautiful Airedale this morning, I thought about how the groomer at the Eden Prairie Petco had totally taken aware her character that we have loved over the past 10 years. The groomer had not groomed Abby; rather, she cut away all of her hair right done to the skin as if she were going into the Vet's office for surgery. Not just on her legs or abdomen or back or head, but her entire body. Then, when my wife picked her up, she was given a full charge for the so called grooming service! I was so angry when my wife brought Abby home that I wanted to go back to Petco and scream at them. But, my wife calmed me down and said the hair will grow back. I followed her request and didn't think about it until this morning, more than a week since the so called grooming visit. But, what they did at Petco was unthinkable. Here is the best explanation I can give without adding photos, and I tried to add a photo to this review but can't figure out how. If you had a Collie and brought her into Petco and when you came to pick your dog she looked like a German Shepherd; this is what happened to our Airedale. If I told you she was an Airedale, you wouldn't believe me. She looks like a small Doe. We will never utilize Petco's so called grooming service again! If I had the name of the groomer, I would gladly post it. Whoever did this to Abby certainly is not a groomer. To do this to your beautiful Airedale and then call it a grooming exercise and charge you for it should not be in this business. Heed our advise and take your dog elsewhere; the question we should have asked is have you ever groomed an Airedale before? Our mistake, but it won't happen at this place again! I took my 4 month old poodle for grooming. I got her back 4 1/2 hours later after I went in to see why they hadn't called me yet. They still weren't finished with her when I went in. They said they had to take breaks with her since she wasn't tolerating the process well. Her cut was uneven and she peed on the floor in the store because they never took her out in all that time to pee. I'll never go back to another pet store grooming factory! read more

I went for a grooming self-serve appointment (you can go and give your pet a bath and use the shampoos, towels, etc., provided by the grooming salon) this morning and upon walking in decided right away that I WILL NOT BE BACK, and that the place should not host pets -- or people. The place is so disgustingly filthy. They have a stainless steel tub that my dog can walk up into, which is nice, since he's big and he's old. Although the tub itself wasn't visibly dirty (being stainless steel), there was dog hair in it from the bath before. I tried to keep myself from staring at the floor, because it was making me nauseous, although my eye was continually drawn to it by the amount of real, visible DIRT (also perhaps some mildew?) on it. The towel (yes, single towel for a 100 lb, super furry dog) was threadbare and laden with old clumps of dog hair (SOOOOOOO GROSS!). Walking out of the grooming area and into the store itself wasn't much better. Feels dirty, gives me the creeps, had to cut the dog bath short and zoom home and hop in the shower for myself. If you do happen to ignore this advice then be sure to always question whether or not the particular person grooming your pet is licensed. I advise always staying to observe the grooming process to insure that your pet isn't abused or mishandled. read more

I am writing this comment because I want others to be aware of my recent visit with bitter experience from this store. This is my third and the last visit to this location...To begin with the appointment itself I had made appointment 3 weeks in advance and yet when we went to drop off my dog for grooming they cancelled the appointment onsite because they're short in Staff and told us to reschedule ... why would you make us confirmed the appointment and canceled? It is not professional at all ... Now talking about my pet's grooming - it's the worst ... we told them to make it short but instead they completely shaved him and make him look totally unrecognizable... again very disappointing and unprofessional service ... I didn't sign up for shaving of my dog's fur , I wanted it to be taken care and that's what I paid for instead you guys simple shaved the entire body of my dog.. So, please don't let this happen again with other pets .. I know, it will grow back but it's not what we signed up for ...I re-read the comment made by Richard K who went thru exact experience and seems like it's pattern in this store .. I have consistently found extremely friendly and helpful staff at this store, and this goes for the pet needs for cats, dogs, and a turtle too. The grooming service has done an excellent job too. If there has been a coupon, a deal, an exchange, the staff have been really nice about it. They have a huge selection of foods and other products, and Petco has the online store also. You receive the Rewards and other discounts with Pals, and a huge range of products including higher end short of the Vet only products. read more

I have been going to Petco for a year since my dog was a puppy. I do not know why I kept going back except that they were very close to me. The gals that work there do not seem like they really enjoy what they do. Twice I was charged for a service that was not performed. They would ask me how I wanted my dog trimmed...then do what they felt like dong. This last time the gal nicked my dogs face and didn't say one thing about it. I was told by by Linda, the sales partner that I could not park in the space next to the return cart area because it's for disabled parking. It's the one that has the disabled sign on the ground that is PAINTED OVER and blacked out and has NO blue sign to mark it as disabled parking. There are 4 empty disabled parking spaces clearly marked with blue signs and newly painted white signs on the ground on the other side. Anyway, I moved my car. On my way out, a white guy parks (no tabs either) in the spot I was told I couldn't park in. Was he told to move his car? Take a guess. I went in today because I noticed last night that my dog's dew claw had grown into his paw pad and was swollen. I don't take him to get his nails trimmed very often because he is extremely afraid of having this done. The staff was only able to get the claw clipped in half and couldn't get anymore of his nails cut because he was extremely upset after the one that was sore. The nail remained stuck in his pad and they recommended a vet remove it, but also walked me through what to do if I wanted to remove it at home. They were kind, compassionate and gentle with him. I will 100% be going back there to try to get his nails trimmed again once we get his paw pad healed. After the trim experience we bought a toy as well (since I was feeling guilty as a dog mom) and the staff that checked me out was amazing and while I was rung up it was slow enough for that time of day that another staff member was able to take 60 seconds out of his day to let and comfort my dog. I will absolutely be going back again. It was an all around amazing experience for this guilty dog mom. read more

I decided to get my shih tzu groomed at this Petco because I had recently moved to the area and have previously had great experiences at Petco grooming salons (as well as previously working at one). When dropping him off I was asked how I wanted him groomed I wasn't sure of the length he usually got and I asked if she was able to look it up. I was told that they can't see any notes from different stores, which was fine. I explained how he usually gets trimmed (face length and shape) as well as a guess for the body length. The groomer was very condescending and pretty rude with me even though I was just trying to answer her question. When I came back to pick him up I noticed that there was a special handling charge on his bill, I thought that was pretty strange as when I worked at a different Petco this charge was only put on extremely naughty dogs which didn't happen very often. After paying I asked the groomer why the charge was there (who knows, maybe there was a good reason). She kind of smirked and told me that my dog had bit her. I thought it was strange that she didn't show me where or even kind of motion to her hand or anything as I or the groomers I had worked with did to show the owners if they were bit. She told me that he had lots of "naughty notes" from previous visits even though when I dropped him off I was told that she couldn't see any of his notes! I have had him for 5 years and have never once been told he was naughty, if I had this would have been way more understandable. She told me that even though he was bad she would be willing to "give him one more chance" if I wanted to bring him back. The next day I also noticed a nasty blistery wound in his groin which I'm guessing was from the clippers. Honestly it was a good groom, he looked great but I just don't feel comfortable bringing him back at all. I work with animals and I know that even good pets can be naughty when stressed but the whole situation felt very dishonest to me. read more

We went here this afternoon to have our dogs nails trimmed because we were short on time and couldn't make it to our usual place. Both of our dogs have city tags and rabies tags that are on their collars. The tags say where the shots were given, what year and a phone number to call to confirm the shot if you need to. They refused at first to trim their nails because we had rabies tags and not a piece of paper that said the same things as the tags. They then asked us where the shots were given. We told them that one dog had his shot at Hopkins Pet Hospital and the other dog had his shot at the humane society. They said they could trim the nails on the dog who's shot was at Hopkins Pet Hospital, but not the one who had his shot at the humane society? At that point we left. We will go to Bubbly Paws in St. Louis Park. We have always had great service there and have never had an issue with our rabies verification on our dogs. read more

I brought my shitzu in to be groomed. Upon entering the store, the lady (Moriah) was on the phone for about five minutes. She did not greet me or even say that she will be right with me after the phone call. She finally gets off the phone and asked me if I had been there before. I told her no that I hadn't been there. She said well you need her vaccination papers and I had told her that I did. She said that she still needed proof of vaccination.WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED? She was very rude and inconsiderate and had no customer service skills. I told her ok then I'll just rent the sink to give her a bath and she said I needed proof of vaccination for that as well. Ok, so I spoke with the manager who listened to my frustrations with Moriah to no avail. Please don't get your dog groomed here. They may mistreat your dog and you won't get treated right.
