I'm so happy PetCo hasn't succumbed to the closures of businesses caused by Amazon. I will always continue to support my local stores and hope that others out there do the same. Petco always has great deals and matches just about any competitor price out there so why wouldn't you stop by and bring your pet for a mini field trip. Store is always clean and never too crowded, which is nice for a pet atmosphere where anxiety is common. Make this your #1 pet store and make sure to donate $20 to get a SPCA calendar when you get a chance (more toward the end of the year)! I purchased one and learned that the full amount goes to our local SPCA and you get a ton of coupons that are worth more than what you donated. read more

I shop here every week to get crickets and worms for my Chameleon. I have a cat but I buy everything for him at Walmart because it's cheaper. I shop here rather than Petsmart because of the service. At Petco I'm usually greeted when I walk in and rarely have to wait in a long line to check out. Sometimes I have a difficult time finding an associate to get the crickets from the back for me, but when I do they always hook me up. I usually get 75 medium crickets and I swear it looks like a hundred. I actually bought my chameleon from this store. The woman who helped us was very nice but maybe not extremely knowledgeable about chameleons. We had no idea we had bought the male that was in the tank until we researched it online. That would have been nice to know considering the males get enormous and tend to be more aggressive. On our visit the day after we bought him we noticed the second chameleon in the tank was female. So we would've had the choice if the employee knew enough and could've informed us. I was able to find most of what I needed for the chameleon tank at this store but I had to go to stupid Petsmart to get a dripper. read more

The employees are always friendly and helpful. They greet us and ask if we found what we were looking for everytime. Lots of coupons and perks if you sign up for their rewards program. We use the shot clinic that comes once a month for our kittens shots. They are also very friendly and helpful too. read more

We've had mostly positive experiences with petco groomers in the the past. However we've recently learned that you should definitely call and let them know if you're running late as they could, within about 15 minutes and without calling you, give your appointment to another customer. Then they might tell you that they can give you the very next available appointment... in one week. Ninja please! On the bright side we got out the ~$50 pet clippers that we got from petco last year and realized that we can do just as good a job as they can. read more

5 stars for what I observed of the grooming dept. upon my first visit. They were kind enough to accommodate my missed apt & let me reschedule right away. Cassandra ended up grooming our 8 month old puppy and she was amazing! She took time to sense his personality and let him warm up to her. Then she performed wonders on giving us a "do over" on his non shedding matted fur. All of the dogs we observed before & after his drop off seemed well cared for. I'm sold on Cassandra. I have 2 lizards, 1 turtle, a fish, a dog and until recently, a frog (may "Truth" rest in peace). I buy crickets for the lizards, turtle food and fish food here. I do not buy anything for my dog here because the one time I did, when my doggy was a puppy and I was bringing him home for the first time I felt like a fool. I made the mistake of asking for help getting a great collar, leash, food, bed, toys, etc. Being completely ignorant as to what was considered expensive for these things I ended up buying the most expensive of everything as per an employees suggestion. I have since found all the items mentioned for less than HALF the price and much better quality. Two years of research can do that for you (my dog's age). I still go there often and the employees are super nice, very knowledgeable and friendly so I love it here because of them. They look like they genuinely enjoy working here and any time I see that, I appreciate the business. I've called the grooming dept about 2 times and the person I got on the phone both times was not friendly at all so I took my doggy for a bath to their competitor. It was cheaper and the employees in that department were nicer. The loss of 2 stars is because their prices are ridiculously marked up and their grooming department needs to have a friendlier, more helpful "voice" representing them. read more

OK....so you think you have experienced poor treatment by a cashier who is just going through the motions on a slow Saturday...well think again. The "Manager", and I use that term lossely, was behind the register and must have missed his customer training classes as he treated us like we were a burden....we spent $100 there on several items and he never greeted us, never looked at us, never asked if we had found everything we needed and never said thank you, come again. He just handed us our receipt and walked off to go do something else. We ran into an employee outside, who happened to be another manager, they seem to make everybody a manager at this store, whom we explained our bad experience to and he said that he was sorry and for us to have a nice day....really, that is it....wow! I guess you either like Petco or hate it. I, for one, have never had an issue with any of the employees here. Their stock of various pet supplies is plentiful and prices are reasonable. They constantly send coupons to me for Science Diet cat food.... Which I prefer to use anyways, thanks! I did have an error the other day where the coupon they had sent didn't process correctly.... The sales clerk didn't make a big deal out of it... She just re-rang the sales and gave me the cash back with a smile.... What else can you ask for when there is an error? I like how this place is for pets and you can get things for pets there. My favorite section is the kitty section. This was kinda creepy, but there were about eight containers full of crickets that you could take home. I suppose they were food for other pets. I had to go in here to find a measuring syringe for my pet cat. The store is big and they have cats for adoption on the weekends only. read more

I had bought 3 fish. Several days later. One passed away. I was told when I first bought them, that I can bring the fist in for a return or to get my money back. I brought my fish and they said they want a sample of the water they were in. They NEVER said that! I am upset as it is that my pet died, but then to treat me badly is horrible. The fish was 1.00, not a huge in vestment! They refused to let me get an other fish, so I got my money back. I'm using that to go to pet smart! It's bad enough that they have a hug amount of dead fish in their tanks! I have to let them know, cause THEY don't take care of them!!! read more

Recently, I visited the store to buy a fish for my "class pet". I just wanted a goldfish. The two guys working in the fish department that night instantly tried to sell me a Beta fish for $25. During our chat, they learned I am a special ed teacher looking for a class pet. It was at this time that the salesperson Chris refused to sell me a fish because he said special ed kids are mean and rough with items and that selling me a fish would be like placing a death sentence on this fish. He said he is obligating to not sell an animal to a person who could do harm to it. Seriously?! Needless to say I was so thrilled to tell my parents why their children did not have a class pet. read more

To the poor woman that came in with her autistic son, who couldn't have been more than eight years old. I witnessed everything and I am so sorry that you and your son had to go through that. The woman came in with her son to buy two small feeder, goldfish. I heard the woman and her little boy say they wanted two feeder fish because the little boy wanted to save them from being eaten by a bigger fish. They told the worker named Nick that they had 2 fish tanks that were both 3.5 gallon. One had no fish and the other had one small guppy fish. The little boy picked out 2 feeder gold fish and the employee bagged up the 2 feeder fish. The woman then asked if she could get a minnow fish she said the small guppy was alone and wanted to give him a friend. Nick the employee told her he would not sell her that one because he said 2 fish cannot be in the tank. The woman didn't understand why since they both were small fish. When she asked Nick the employee why? he said you know what? I'm not gonna sell you any fish after he already let the little boy pick out 2 feeder fish and they were bagged. The little boy had to watch Nick the employee put the two fish he picked out back in the tank. The woman then said, I don't understand you let my little boy pick out two fish and bag them then put them back in front of the little boy. The employee Nick said I had a change of heart, so you're not getting them. The woman asked to speak to the manager and he said no because he is the manager. She then asked to talk to corporate and I could tell that the mother with the young child was getting frustrated. Then another woman customer started yelling at the mother as the child was crying. Why Petco employees would let another customer verbally attack another customer is beyond me. Nick should've never let the little boy pick out fish and bag them up, then change his mind and put them back. Instead, he let other customers verbally abuse the woman and threaten to call the police. Correct me if I'm wrong but those are feeder fish to feed other fish. Those two fish probably would've lived a lot longer with the little boy instead of becoming fish food. With everything that is going on in the world, people should have more compassion and how that was handled was absolutely uncalled for. The woman was finally able to get the corporate number and I really hope that she files a complaint and she should have called the police and got an incident report. Nick, you were totally out of line and should be ashamed of yourself and the fact that you said you get paid minimum wage and you don't need to deal with this is bull ****!!! Customers don't need to know how much you get paid that's not their business. Why sell 2 feeder fish for one tank and that is OK but not one other fish for the other tank that had one fish... Fair oaks petco , you really need to let your employees know they shouldn't treat customers like that!!! read more

We love Petco and shop here often for our pup, Roxy, but this negative review is for their grooming services. I called their groomers ahead of time to find out information about nail-clipping. Roxy is 50 pounds, and she HATES when we cut her nails, and we hate it too! It takes both of us to get them done, with my fiance holding her down and me clipping and filing as quickly as possible, and even still, I never feel like I've done a good job, because she is squirming so much. So we thought we'd look into someone doing it for us. I called Petco to find out if we needed to make an appointment and to ask a few questions. We were told we could just walk in, and when I expressed concern about them being able to cut Roxy's nails, the lady I spoke with just laughed it off. She explained that they put the dog on a table so they can better see their nails and sometimes use 2-3 staff to cut nails, if the dog is being difficult. So we walked in with our dog on a Sunday afternoon, and imagine our surprise when one of their staff comes out from behind their counter, asks my fiance to hold Roxy and starts clipping on the floor in front of the front desk. Roxy starts flipping out, so I'm helping to hold her down, and the girl clipped all her nails within a few minutes, said "Thanks", and that was that... This cost $15. For $15, I wrongly assumed that they would take the time to file down Roxy's nails after clipping them, or at the very least TAKE HER AND PUT HER UP ON A TABLE LIKE WE WERE TOLD THEY DO. Instead, our experience was worse than the experiences we have at home, and Roxy's nails were left jagged and uneven. In the days that followed this, ALL of her nails ended up splitting. I'm so disappointed that we wasted our time and money on something that we thought would make our lives a little easier, but instead, only made them a little harder. Next time, we'll take our $15 and go buy a nice pair of nail clippers, I guess... read more

Outstanding Customer Service!!! I took my Schnoodle , Wally in to be groomed at the Petco on Madison and Hazel in Fair Oaks today. Ashley the groomer was an absolute Doll and did an amazing job!! I went to check out and Julie helped me. My Wally subsequently pooped on the floor and while I went to get supplies to clean it up he saw another dog and slipped out of his collar! I thought he ran into the store but Julie saw that he ran out of the store and ran out to get him before he ran into the busy parking lot!! She was our HERO today!!! I know she was shaken up, as was I. She is a sweet, lovely, dedicated employee and Wally and I so appreciate her heart and the care that she gave us today!! One man at the front was very rude to my friend and I. We were waiting for someone to help us with the fish, usually someone would come up to you and ask 'do you need any help here.' So there is usually no need to flag down a worker. After waiting for about 15 minutes by the fish section he asks if we needed help and proceeds to say. 'Next time you girls need help tell someone, I cant read your minds.' Understandably we should have asked someone for help but both of use are quite shy, but we are customers in your store, we are spending our money here. Sorry to 'inconvenience' you. A well designed store. It is easy to move around in my power wheel chair and most of the products, displays and animals are easy to see. The staff is friendly. Also, they host Fluff Buddies cat adoption events every Saterday from 12pm to 4pm and sometimes on Sundays. It's great place to get a new cat. It's even where my cat adopted me. read more

This is for the Salon and general staff. We have been bringing our not-so-little Min Pin here for several years. He's fairly timid around most people, but he gets a long with nearly all of the staff at the store. He always knows where to go for the Salon to get his nails trimmed, and he's always excited to bark and tell everyone about it. We used to really enjoy coming to petco with our little furry friend for numerous reasons. I liked their grooming salon, there variety of toys and treats, and their large number of different leashes. We personally like the leash that includes the doggy bag holder and is retractable and heavy duty. We would pay good money to go and buy our leashes at petco. Recently however, they majorly reduced all of their selections. We asked several employees there where we could find our leash. No one knew what happened to their selection, but they did refer us to the filler doggie bags.....We have to purchase the bags online now. read more

Inexperienced and unable/unwilling to handle even calm, gentle dogs. They sent us home without providing the service. Unbelievably disappointed with this grooming location. Just moved here, took our African Mastiff in for a nail trim and buff, just like we have been doing at Petco in our previous town for almost two years, and were told by the Grooming Manager, who says he's been in the industry for 12 years, that due to safety concerns they would not be completing the nail trim and buff. Not because he was aggressive, which I would understand of course, but because he is very large and was able to move the table they chose to hook him to and the trimmer almost get hit in the head with. This is a lack of training and willingness to be dedicated to their job, NOT due to my dog. Apparently anything over 60 lbs is too much for this location to handle, go elsewhere. The store manager was very apologetic to me but was unable to reason with the grooming manager. read more

every visit i've had to this petco has been a different experience. i have two bearded dragons and i've shopped for products for them here for a few months. a few of your staff, mareesa and jesse, have helped me numerous times and has been helpful each time. great employees with a lot of knowledge of reptiles. my main complaint is last time i came in i ordered 50 large crickets. i usually purchase their live food at the Serpentarium in Roseville but i was in a pinch that day and had to buy from petco. an employee named issac helped me with crickets and but a bad attitude. it didn't bother me much but it was a little irritating. anyway, i fed each of my bearded dragons 25 crickets each and they BOTH got internal parasites. i'm very disappointed with the quality of petco's crickets especially since they made both of my beardies incredibly sick. read more
