WOW! I was impressed. I came in looking for Dog food options because I recently found out that my American Bully, Kevin, is allergic to all kinds of foods. He has been having a lot of Itchy ear issues. I was hoping for some assistance with the Allergy Test I had just completed. The sales person, Madison came to me almost immediately and was BEYOND helpful. She was caring, professional and very knowledgeable. On Saturday I happened to be near by and also about out of cat food, a family friend had been recommending this place so I stopped in. A friendly female employee searched the back for some cases of wet food and listed off the flavors they had in stock and I went with 1 of each. At ring up I signed up for their frequent buyer program for their pet food and received 5% off each case, pretty great! The employee also directed me to their raw section and I went with my ragdoll's favorite brand Primal which seemed to be a reasonable price as well for the size of the bag. This is unfortunately the last time I will be coming to the Citrus Heights location. Customer service here is non-existent. There were 2 workers. I walked around the whole store checking out different treats, toys and frozen food. They did not acknowledge me or check to see if I had any questions. The Folsom location is a totally different experience. They always say hi upon entering and check up on you. I honestly thought all Bens Barketplace locations would have the same kind of customer service, but it looks like this location lacks that. Everyone at this location is lovely but the owner, Christine is just an exceptional human. My sweet cat got a pretty grim diagnosis and I frantically went in there and was so comforted by her every visit. She took the time with me to go over any (and ALL) of my questions and worries with such presence and compassion. It's rare to come across someone who is so whole heartedly committed to the health and well-being of your fur child-not to mention your fur child's parent. I went in looking to try the topical flea and tick spray wondercide, i was reading the small bottle worried about scent. She said no worries get this one so if you like it you don't hav etc come back. (a larger bottle) the scent was so strong we slept with the windows open, even Pete wanted it off. I also couldnt find his brush so I went to the brushes and noted the plastic casing (all of the grooming p were in) made it difficult to gauge how firm the beisstl were. The brush was like a dolls brush, silky smooth with no brushing capability what so ever. $25 The spray size she chose was $35 no refunds or returns on grooming products or herbal supplements I made a $60 donation apparently read more

I used to go to a different location but was not a fan of their service. I was so happy to see that one in Citrus Heights opened up. The people working here are really friendly. I usually buy a big box of frozen raw food and they always offer to take it to my car for me. I also usually buy some kibble. Everything is expensive but since switching my dogs over to raw food, the one with problems has done so much better. We've had fewer trips to the vet. The picky one can't wait to eat so I don't have to worry about his brother stealing his food. Overall, this is one of those places I don't mind spending money because I know I am getting a quality product. The staff has always been really nice and helpful. Great location, great staff but they sell expired freeze dried food for cats. It made both of my cats vomit numerous amount of times. Too bad it took two vet visits before I was able to diagnose the problem. I usually get the same food at other stores and have never had this problem. Will not be coming back. read more

Typically Ben's Is great & staff helpful. But I found a piece of blue plastic wrap in the "Small Batch - Turkey" frozen patties that I bought there & response is to contact Small Batch directly, so giving 3 stars for not really caring about what they're selling. This is the 2nd time I found blue plastic wrap in the Small Batch Turkey patties - the other time was from another pet food store in different location. Sad the food is so expensive & makes you wonder how much more plastic is in the food that they process & we as consumers & pet parents are not seeing. If there was plastic found in baby food, would they pay attention? I contacted Small Batch as recommended & there was no response :( read more

Also asked for some nutritional advice for our 8 month Great Pyrenees who has been having digestive issues. The manager, Jill, was very helpful and offered a variety of suggestions. The products of this store are excellent quality for our cats and dogs, high in protein, nutritious etc., the problem is a young girl who works there, she is always at the register, she is white with dark curly or wavy hair, she looks like she doesn't want to work there, she doesn't have knowledge about the products, she doesn't know how to suggest products, she doesn't have answer to any question we ask her, every time when we go and we bring the products to pay, she doesn't say ANYTHING like (say HI, do you have any questions about the products, do you need anything else, wherever) we think that girl need to go away, and find a new employee that really would love to be there. read more

Come here if you know exactly what you want and don't need to talk to anyone. I came here after an emergency hospitalization of my cat for a urinary tract blockage. The vet prescribed three different brands of food specifically meant to target that issue. I asked an associate if they had any of these brands and she immediately went on a tirade about how awful non-raw food is for your pets. Now I get it, raw is probably a high margin item for your store. And honestly, I should have just left and ordered the food online. But I trusted Ben's Barketplace; it seemed like a small, local store that cared about animals. She said that the raw food actually does a better job of treating urinary disorders than the prescription cat food! Cats are meant to eat raw, she said, and the cat food my vet prescribed will actually make it more likely for the issue to recur. I fell for it, hook line and sinker. I left the store with bags of raw food for my cat. A month later I'm typing this review in the parking lot of the emergency room--my cat got obstructed again. Another $3000 down the drain; hopefully he makes it out okay. Lesson learned. Listen to your vet, and don't go to Ben's Barketplace unless you want to be upsold on raw food. What does "nutritionist" on your nametags mean, anyway? Is there any certification required? If not, that's incredibly misleading. Be careful! read more

The Staff were very helpful and the dog wash was very clean and easy to use! $15 for 15 minutes was more than plenty of time to wash, flea treat, condition and dry my very hairy dog! They supplied everything, including an apron and a towel! My dog is white so I have to bathe her often. I'll definetly be back regularly. read more

I was shocked when I visited yesterday with my 2 year old chocolate lab to pick up his favorite "mammoth bone" and was told by a female employee that I could not purchase 1 of the 3 bones (wrapped) sitting in the window display (they were all out of stock) I was told "we can't sell those, they have been sitting there for years". I know this is not true, because they sell out of these bones all the time and I've bought display bones before when they have run out. I had to leave the store with my poor pup who was so excited to get his treat. I've been buying these bones the past year for him. No other local BB carry them. I'm not sure I'll be shopping here anymore and will find another supplier for my pups bones. read more

Updating review because we brought our dog again for a bath, got in at 628pm, had someone in front of us, so didn't get to the counter until 633pm. Told we couldn't use the bath because they close at 630pm. Couldn't make an exception for 3min! I think that's unreasonable because we actually got in before 630pm, the lady there was just too lazy to clean up after us. It takes us 10min only to use the bath and she'd still have had 17min to clean it before closing. read more

This review is long overdue. We've been coming to Ben's in Citrus Heights since when they first opened early in 2019. We wanted to support small business and also to look for options for our 14 year old Lab mix Chloe. We wanted to make sure we were giving her the best food possible. They really took all the time to talk through the choices. We'd never considered frozen raw food but what a difference it made with her digestive issues. We always took her in the store with us and they would love on her and give her treats. A year later as Chloe started progressively aging and reaching towards the end she started becoming very selective with her food. One day she'd eat it, the next wouldn't go near it, which meant I had to keep trying different foods to get her to eat. Nothing was wrong with her except she was aging. I cannot tell you enough how helpful, loving, patient, and empathetic Steve, Jennifer and the rest of the staff were during those couple of months as I tried to navigate this. Sometimes I would go to the store once a week, sometimes once a day. It was such a stressful, frustrating and heartbreaking time for me trying to do anything I could to help my girl eat. I must have tried every food in there. But this store and these wonderful people made this time a little easier by helping my however they could. They really did love and care about my Chloe girl. When she passed they cried with me. I always recommend this Ben's to my friends and still continue to go with our Riley-bug for baths and food. Best service I've ever received. Substandard customer service and that's what mattered to me today. Instead of ordering what I needed online, I took my broken foot and hobbled into this store. I have been in several times before and had exemplary customer service! But not today! The young lady that helped me acted like I was putting her out... she was not friendly nor courteous ... so entirely different than what I've experienced in the past! She did carry the bag to the car for me, but didn't really act like she wanted to. After she left I thought about the total bill and it seemed too high so as I looked at the receipt. I noticed she charged me twice for one item. I called the store and talked to someone and explained the double charge and Asked her to just provide the item that I was charged double for so I wouldn't have to come back in (on crutches) and they wouldn't have to bother to do a return or cashback situation. Next thing I knew the young lady who had helped me (before) came out with no product and said, "I need to see your receipt!" I thought for sure they could look up the receipt on the cash register but I really don't understand why they would doubt my information. After looking at the receipt, she walked back in the store and got another item and brought it out to me and never apologized for anything. Worst place you could take your dog for a wash. They don't supply you with anything which is fine i guess, I like to buy my dogs their own shampoo. But what self wash place doesn't allow you to BRUSH YOUR DOG?? And not only that but I think it's ridiculous that they only give 10 minutes. Like it's possible to wash and dry your dog in 10 minutes.
