Here to echo the rude and incompetent customer service. I ordered pet food via the store delivery option and they sent me the wrong size (I'd ordered the large and they sent me the very small version, meaning that no one even scanned the item before they handed it over to delivery, otherwise the error would have been caught before it was on its way). When I called the store let them know, the associate told me that he couldn't do anything about it, and that I'd have to call the national service helpline. (I did, and corporate subsequently reached out to me with apologies, letting me know the store was indeed in the wrong.) Do not use this store. Order from Chewy instead, who will rectify any errors immediately. I'm giving one extra star for the times they host veterinary services, because the external vet teams are great. read more

I tried calling a Petco to see what time the self wash station closed and they said that they close at 8 o'clock, but that there was a store closer to me so I decided to go to the Petco in downtown. I came to the Petco in downtown and I was there a few minutes before 7:30 PM. I tried to get the self washed station, but they refused to let me use it because they said they closed at 8 o'clock and I would have to be there by 6:30 just to use the self washing station. I tried to explain that I was going out of town in the morning and I didn't have a tub or a shower right now at my home to wash my dog. They said that they still had to deep clean the tubs, but I didn't see how that was the issue when they close at 8 PM. It felt like it was a classic case of we want to get out of here early so we're gonna clean up before 8 PM just so we can go home. I even said that I'd be willing to clean up after myself. I just needed to clean the tub and I was going based off of what a Petco employee had told me. The manager Kevin was not helpful at all and he essentially just began to ignore me. I wasn't rude and I wasn't yelling. I was just pleading with him to please let me use the services that I was promised. It was extremely impersonal and you can tell he really just didn't care. He just kept shrugging and saying sorry. He even went so far as to say well we close in about 15 minutes now when I had been standing there since before 7:30 just waiting to speak to him. I would've been in and out by that time I stood there waiting to speak to him. Other stores said that they close at eight and even online it specifically says the self wash station closes at 8 PM as well. I got to the point the employees were just looking at me kind of laughing, giving me a look like if I was really being serious. I would've come earlier if I could, but I had spent the day in the hospital with a family member. So please if your self wash station doesn't close at 8 PM, please change the hours online and please make sure all of the employees are aware of the correct times. If not, can you please make sure the employees aren't turning people away people at 6:30, almost 2 hours before it says the self wash station closes at 8, just so they can "leave early." I've shopped at this location several times and noticed the Self Wash station. Because there is no signage in its vicinity indicating a charge to use the station (and the lack of a stationary associate), I figured it was free to use as long as you brought your own pet cleaning supplies. So I was taken aback when an associate came up to me while washing my dog and asked that I pay $20. It turns out that it's $20 for every 30 minutes + Petco provides the cleaning supplies. But despite having my own supplies and highlighting the lack of cost of service signage, they insisted that I still pay the price, rudely exclaiming that "nothing is free." First, the lack of cost of service signage at the Wash Station is illegal under CA law (SB 478) that regulates how prices are advertised, displayed or offered by businesses selling goods or offering services to consumers. This includes "smaller print" (cost of service is only displayed near the bottom of a chalk board at the entrance not apparent to consumers). Second, it's incredibly infuriating that I was forced to pay for a service that didn't include the amenities that come with it. I filed a complaint with the corporate office. If this isn't remedied, I will also file a complaint with the California Department of Consumer Affairs. This could have been avoided if their associates acknowledged the lack of signage, apologized, and asked for me to pay next time. This is extremely poor customer service. read more

I have always come to this place for my pets. Last Tuesday, even though the assistants were nice and sweet, I had a really bad experience with Dr. Jayden Kim. First, the vet seemed bored and uninterested in what he was doing. He didn't even greet or say hello to my pets before injections and he directly put injections. My pets have social anxiety and he was just treating my pets with no empathy. Although my first dog was peacefully injected, the second one looked worried. So, she struggled and shouted during the injection and the vet was just putting the needle in instead of making the dog calm down. So, my dog's hand was bleeding and the vet was just shouting at me about what I should have done during the injection. I mean he even didn't mention any instruction and then he scolded me with his loud voice. The worst part was he knocked on my dog's head three times aggressively. This is animal abuse and seeing my dog being violently treated as a pet parent was so traumatic. I made a complaint about the vet through a phone call and I haven't heard a single explanation from the team over 48 hrs. I paid a high fee just for the injections and the service I got was so unbelievable. I still have an appointment for the rabies and don't want the service if it is the same vet who's unprofessional and rude. Money was wasted on the wrong place. read more

HORRENDOUS experience!! to be avoided at all costs. I can not tell anyone enough about what a nightmare this has been. I paid for a vaccination for my pup. It needed to be spread out over 6 weeks because he was too small to receive all at once. By mistake they made a double profile so when I came for the third time they refused to help me saying "I was not in their system." Never mind that I had ALL the payment and medical documentation with me. It took them three hours to finally help me. And admit their mistake. Then, I arrive at my own vet the next day to request an international health certificate for my pup and I submit all PETCO's information required to receive the certificate...guess what? They put on there that he was microchipped except that the vet clearly stated that there was no microchip in his body. Never mind you'd think, I'll microship him with my own vet....except that they already had given him a microchip number and that needed to be deleted on the paperwork so that the international health certificate could be issued. Guess what?! Their completely useless customer service in The Philippines REFUSED to correct the mistake. Yes, refused. I had to call a regional district manager and walk into the retail store and wait for 3 hours to have her correct the mistake herself. Then, the USDA who issues the health certificate calls and requests the lot # and expiration dates of the vaccinations which is a federal requirement. Ofcourse, No One at PETCO was able to provide this information. Nor were they willing to find out. Or fix the issue. THEY ARE INCOMPETENT, SHADY and RUDE!!!! Do not go there at all!!!! read more

this Petco is better than most, but it's also newer than a lot of the Petco's-love shopping at Petco but unless the store starts getting more interesting and it's been going on a downhill slope for the past decade I just can't see myself coming back and I'll tell you why. I can go to any Ross store and get dog shampoo at half the price and they usually have a good selection. They also have some toys and while my dog is pretty rough I can usually find some thing that will last him a while at Ross for about five dollars. as far as doggy attire goes target online has some really really cute clothes and sweatshirts for dogs that are under $10. and then of course occasionally I go to TJ Maxx and I get some pajamas or something and that doesn't work and I need a really trendy looking dog bed. I just get it from chewy so while my dog might like to come to Petco and sniff around, these type of stores have become irrelevant unless they get new management and just turn the place into something more interesting read more

Don't come here for the self wash. They use water for soap. I had to stop in the middle of washing my dog -take her out sopping wet- and ask for a new fill of soap because my dog was still dirty and stinky after both the "conditioner" and "shampoo". There was no change in the "soap" after asking for a new one. I overheard other people at the self wash complaining about the soap too.. My dog is still dirty and smelly. I'm gonna have to wash her at home which defeats the purpose of the self wash. I wasted my time and $20. Super disappointing read more

When an employee sneaks up from behind and says :"your dog just shit on the floor, the towels are over there," you know you are not a nice place. This was the second visit--each punctuated with mild rudeness. It sits on the ironic Hope Street which is gateway to the South Park area of downtown. Great location for a PETCO in Southpark in Downtown LA. Corner of Hope and 9th Street. Across from Ralph's supermarket and Market Lofts on Hope Street. The self wash is cool. For $10. They provide the facilities with shampoo and drying of your dog. They clean up after you. No mess in home, bathroom, garage, porch or your laundry. Customer Service is a hit and miss. Sometimes helpful sometimes not. Not a big store makes it easier to find everything you need. read more

This review is pertaining to the discourteous behavior by JEN. After looking in all of the aisles twice for a few specific items I went to the register to ask for assistance. Unfortunately, when I entered the store initially and asked a question was given a brash response I believe from this same employee. Instead of getting further help, JEN said quite loudly, "I can't leave the register, but I can gear you in the right direction" to which I said "I have looked in the aisles a couple of times and will look again, thank you". I didn't further the conversation because I felt belittled and berated by her tone. As a customer, I was not even given the decency of being referred to another employee. I looked in all of the aisles for a third time and then decided to ask the very polite, thoughtful, and professional employee by the name of Jeanette. Jeanette is the only reason I am not giving this rating a 1 star. From my very 1st encounter at this Petco location, as I frequent another location often, when I needed assistance with directions to a restroom and seemed distraught was given such a kind referral from Jeanette. Then, was helped with the 3 items that I needed to find, two which were packaged differently than photos of my soon to be purchases. Our encounter was brief but drastically different from the employee JEN who yelled at Jeanette for help at the register when I was checking out and a line had quickly begun to form. I know we're still in a pandemic and we all have off days but the least I expect from an employee when I am being kind and literally asking for help as a customer is respect. I do not feel that is too much to ask. I am not sure who the manager on the floor was today but I did not feel comfortable making an in person complaint, JEN had a different color shirt on and I assumed her to be the person in charge and didn't feel safe enough to complain about her to her. If there is a manager position open, I recommend Jeanette, my belief is she would make a great fit. I hope that she is treated as an equal among the other employees and by JEN. If I don't have to, I will not frequent this Petco location ever again. read more

They're always out of items (Honest Kitchen Kibble for example) and I have to drive to the closest Petco which is 30 minutes away to buy things my dog needs. This review is regarding Adeline. I called a few hours prior to reserve a dog wash station. She told me it's walk-in only and the last wash was at 6:30. I walked a mile with my dog to do this today. I arrived at 6:33pm and was told by Adeline that the dog wash stations were already closed. There was nobody washing their dog and the stations were dirty, so I figured I'd go back to her and tell her it would be a quick wash (I have a short haired/basically no hair dog) and that I don't mind the dirty station. We took private lessons with her and our puppy went from very nervous to doing tricks and gained confidence within a matter of a few sessions. I dislike writing bad reviews. I also dislike that this is the only self-wash pet station in DTLA. But it is what it is. I come here every 3-weeks with my 60 pound Goldendoodle. and usually not a problem at all. I've never been told there is a 30-minute-limit for the washing the station,and always spend at least 45 minutes / 1-hour washing my dog. I would never be able to finish the job in 30 minutes. Impossible! I came in tonight (Wednesday June 1st). Again, I was never told about the 30 minute time limit. As soon as I start drying my dog the manager came over and told me I had to leave the store. And she didn't just tell me, she just randomly started yelling at me, as if I was breaking a rule. I tried to tell her to please lower her voice and she only got louder. She didn't listen to me at all. I couldn't even get one word in. She just kicked me out. I HAD TO LEAVE THE STORE WITH A WET DOG!!! This is NOT right!!! This is horrible service. There was no one else waiting to use the station, there was barley anyone else in the store. So using the pet station for a few minutes longer to finish the job isn't inconveniencing anyone! I regret not asking for a $15 refund, I am certainly owed it. I wish I would spend more time on this review, because its poorly worded but I'm so upset and I don't want to keep thinking about this bad experience. The only problem is... I will be back (because its the only place I can wash my dog in DTLA). I really wish the store would contact me, apologize, and offer some kind of incentive to become a happier customer. This is a great location as in it's really close to work and the grocery store so it makes doing my dog-related errands a breeze... but it's also an awful location if you drive a car there. Beyond the typical DTLA traffic, parking can be a total pain. (Life hack- we park at Ralph's and I run off to buy dog food while my husband begins the grocery shopping.) It's a small location that doesn't have a huge selection like other locations do. Service is super hit or miss depending on the day. They don't carry products for my tortoise.... Annnnd I often go to other independently owned pet stores in the area to ease my unethical shopping guilt... but man, you can't beat Petco's prices or convenience. read more

I am leaving this 2 star review because my Doberman was turned away from their training program when she was a 4 month old puppy. They told me they do not accept or train large dogs, only small dogs at this particular location. Therefore my husband and I had to drive all the way to Hollywood to get our pup trained when we live here in DT. I happened to stop by today to do some shopping and observed what looked like a full grown Doberman being trained in their program, whereas mine was 12 weeks old, much "smaller" in size when I brought her in for the same purpose. Came here for the first time to purchase a dog collar for my chihuahua. Staff wasn't welcoming and the only contact I had was when I was picking out a collar and the lady working the register came down the aisle and asked me to move so she could get by. Came here the other day to purchase dog shampoo. They did not have a lot of options like I thought they were going to have. Also, did not get one greeting or how can I help you today from the employees (and I walked passed all of them). I had to initiate the conversation ask someone if this is all the shampoo they had for dogs. Very friendly staff. It's a Petco with limited services due to the confined space due to them being previously slated to be an Unleashed Store but ended up being a Petco. They have a self serve wash station. They will offer doggie obedience classes. Nancy is fantastic. She's our neighborhood dog whisperer. They are teamed up with Rover.com if you need a dog walker. Head's up, if you need to access your phone do it before you enter the store. I have AT&T and I get a poor signal, if any. They don't have wifi. But maybe your mobile service is better than AT&T. There's plenty good dog food choices. Plenty cute outfits, treats, and necessities. It's a great new addition to our neighborhood. I'm happy that we have a Petco downtown, however, this location is rather small, narrow and not organized very well. Also, I did notice that the prices were higher at this location so I guess you pay for convenience. Another downfall is parking. Walked around the store because I couldn't find the turtle food. I asked an employee where I could find it and he said "I'm sorry, we don't sell reptile food". WTF?!! Why Petco??? Why???
