I visited the vet at Petco yesterday with my fur baby and was very nervous. I've had such bad experiences with vets in general where they guilt trip you into services and you leave paying half hour savings account. I can honestly say I was pleasantly surprised at the service I received and how inexpensive it was. My dog received excellent care AND it didn't break the bank! I would highly recommend going to Petco! The Vital care plan they have is WELL WORTH IT!! Also the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. We have found our new vet!! Thank you Petco! read more

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Petco Vet in Needham. I booked an appointment specifically for a ProHeart 12 injection -- nothing else. When I arrived, I clearly stated that I was there for the heartworm injection (ProHeart 12). The nurse asked when my dog had her last injection, took her vitals, and later came back saying that all tests were negative and that we were waiting for the veterinarian. When the vet came in, I again explained that we were there for the ProHeart 12 injection. I was then told that they do not provide the injection. I was honestly shocked and frustrated because the entire reason for my appointment was something that apparently was not offered. If I had known beforehand that they did not carry or administer ProHeart 12, I would never have booked the appointment or agreed to additional testing. I was still charged $70 for the SNAP test, a test I would not have done there under these circumstances. What was most disappointing was the lack of communication and the way my concerns were handled. Instead of acknowledging the mistake or trying to help, the veterinarian was dismissive and essentially told me "good luck" finding a vet in New England who carries ProHeart 12. A simple clarification when booking the appointment could have saved me time, money, and a lot of frustration. This was a very disappointing experience. read more

Be aware before booking a grooming appointment with Donna B. My mom has been taking her dog's to Petco Needham grooming for years, and had a wonderful groomer named Lisa who sadly no longer works there. Unfortunately, last weekend my mom brought her sweet and loveable 4 year old dog to get groomed, dropped her off like she usually does and left. 3.5 hours later my mom was called and told that they weren't able to groom her since she was "aggressive" and they needed to wear gloves. Upon arrival, my mom witnessed her dog in a crate, sitting in her own poop with an actively bleeding paw. All that was done in the 3.5 hours was a bath and her nails cut. On the counter was a paper belonging to a different dog which said "anxious and aggressive" and Donna B claimed that my mom had signed it. This was false, it wasn't even for my mom's dog, but a different dog. Clearly upset by the abuse her dog endured at the hands of Donna B, the manager on duty, whose name she didn't know, was just as bad and was trying to charge my mom. Are you kidding me?? His complete lack of sense and Donna B's clear incompetence and disregard for the dog that she was entrusted to care for is highly concerning to say the least. My mom spoke to another manager Monday, who was much nicer and understanding, (not sure if his name) who tried to make it right. But the damage Donna B had done is unforgivable, and understandably my mom will not go back with her dog. Do better Donna B and Petco, how you treat animals in your care can have lasting effects. My mom's dog did not deserve what Donna B did to her, so I hope anyone bringing their pet to Petco in Needham for grooming will be aware and think twice before allowing Donna B anywhere near their pet. read more

Petco-Needham- HORRIBLE experience. Our dog got off her collar before going to the groomer and was able to get out of the store, and run across the very parking lot. The TWO buttons that are supposed to lock the automatic doors, were broken. The person working the front desk did nothing. Noone came to help except the VET who saw what was happening. When I spoke to the manager, he said "sorry and glad your dog didn't get hit." That is totally unacceptable. We would never go back. read more

I had appointment for my cat at this supposed hospital and not free not insurance I was just going and pay, but I get stuck and I was half hour late, + the doctor don't like animals he said to me reschedule and I said I'm busy work I can only bring him right now and he said I don't care, after this I will never trust that vet hospital no more, but way I saw him just walked around like nothing to do, well I when back home, but never again Petco hospital. read more

I didn't think quality like this existed outside an LFS! I have three pet stores closer to me, all different chains. From a technical standpoint, they have everything I need for my fish and my elderly cat with special dietary needs. But they lack excellence in fish care. I figured that was the sad way it was. Periodically I'd see bettas at these other chains that were so sick I really couldn't leave them. I was in the market for a specific 5 gallon tank I saw online, and saw the Petco in Needham had it. When I went there, I saw a totally different kind of major pet store. No fish was sick. All were vibrant and healthy. Adam was there that day and helped me greatly, as I was just getting back into fishkeeping after a very long break and am a novice. He also helped me help the sick bettas I've gotten from other non-Petco chain stores, and some of them were very complicated. I was amazed and very happy. Petco is clearly a cut above the rest. I've gone to Petco whenever possible ever since. Adam has helped me troubleshoot any issues with my 12 aquariums, including helping me help a permanently disabled betta from a different chain (rhymes with "Jet Applies Bus") thrive. When I get a betta from another chain store, it's because I feel so sorry for them I can't leave them behind. When I get a betta from Petco, it's because they're beautiful and would make a great addition to a new aquarium. So I drive out to Needham. I do visit Dedham sometimes as well, even Norwood. read more

My daughter and I were excited to add a new goldfish addition to our tank, we came to Petco and after a few minutes of browsing we found a fish to our liking. It had sparkle like dots on its tail me and my daughter loved. We let a worker know we wanted to adopt the fish and from the second he scooped the fish up we were concerned as he was very aggressive. We brought the fish home and as soon as we put him in our other fish were hiding from him. We didn't know at the time but it turns out the sparkles was a parasite know as Ich. After one day the new fish had died. As well as contaminating both of our other fish and unfortunately killed one. Our last fish is in pain and struggling to survive. Thanks to Petco, both of our healthy and happy fish's lives were disrupted. read more

I had called them earlier and asked if they had gerbils, they said they had plenty. I went in an hour or two later, and they only had one male who was aggressive. Only one gerbil. Labels on rodent terrariums were mixed up, said "guinea pig" while there was a mouse. Staff are nice, pretty much full in stock with items and other necessities. I will never do business with Petco again. I am mortified with Petco and have stayed loyal to them for 14 years even though their price is not the best. Today I saw a sign that if you buy 10 bags of food, you get one bag free. I never knew about this so I asked the store clerk. They said you have to sign up for the the program on the Petco AP. By the way the program has been running for 14 year and no one ever suggested it. So, I signed onto the Petco AP with the Petco number provided to me by the clerk. To record my purchases, I have provided my phone number each time I buy in Petco. When I signed in, the AP indicated that I have only bought large bags of dog food from 1/202 to 5/2021 and now this is 10/2022. This information is incorrect as I buy in the store every month - food, dog yummies, and other pets over the years. The clerk told me to call customer service. At customer service, the CS rep said that I have 2 accounts which does not make sense as they are on the same phone number and I never asked for another account. The first account had over 4000 points and he said he would merge the 2 accounts. He also said that I could not get a free bag as I had to have signed up for the program, but he informed me that I was eligible for a $5 certificate - I had to laugh. Really? I also was concerned as the account number in the Petco AP was not the account number that I put into the AP when I signed up. The CS rep did not understand why the numbers don't match and did not understand why this account stopped reflecting my purchases since 5/2021. I then spoke to a supervisor who told me that she only sees 1 account with the 5 bags of food, and that the other account with 4000 points must have been deleted. I did not even get to the points to see what is the value of the 4000 points. She could not explain (1) How I have 2 account (2) Why only one account shows and the other is deleted (3) Why the account that I have on my phone does not record my purchases (4) And we could not find together where in the AP does one sign up for the free-food program. After almost an hour, she told me she could send me a $60 gift card to use toward my next large bag of food. For this dog alone who is now 14 I have purchased over 120 bags of food which would translate to 10 free bags of food. Needless to say, the company needs to do more training for the Clerks to share key information, they need to train the CS Reps who deleted my account and not merge it and they need to empower their supervisors to meet the customer's need when mess ups occur. I will use the $60 certificate Petco will not get my $2000 worth of dog food for my next dog. read more

Brought my dog to Vetco because he was having diarrhea and vomiting today. My dog is an 8-month golden retriever puppy and he always loves people to cuddle him. We have our leash on, when the nurse came out, my dog try to jump on her but we did stop him. But the nurse was kicked on my dog try to stop him, and she was very rude to the little puppy and us. I have come here for four years for my dog and when Carleen was here at grooming. However she left a few years ago and out of just routine I have kept coming. The staff are completely rude disorganized and I have repeatedly made complaints to the manager about not being able to book a mail clipping and then coming in and being turned away rudely by their staff. I can never get someone on the phone and I can't book on line. I gave up. The manager yesterday promised me a call to schedule today and I haven't of course heard from them. They are not cheap for other products there and it's not worth my time. At of convenience kept going. I I called petsmart down the street. They reserved a time and they were pleasant. They earned my business and pet o lost another customer. I will never go there again. read more

To start, the customer service here is trash. Nobody seems welcoming and when I asked to take out an iguana to potentially purchase they responded with "I would rather not," so I left. I have gone back a couple of times since for feeder insects and this petco location does not know how to care for reptiles at all. They have multiple iguanas living in tanks that they cant even lift their heads or turn around in. All of the lizards in general look lethargic and stressed which is a terrible sign and very concerning. They need to have an expert come in to care for all of their animals because clearly they don't know what they're doing. I would highly recommend going to the Petsmart down the road instead. read more

I wanted to recognize Liv, a manager who most definitely can teach many other managers, the proper way to service the customer in the retail industry. Liv was extremely patient with all my requests to make my princess Sasha look cuter. She went above and beyond and out of her way to do all possible to satisfy my needs at the moment. Being in the retail world for years myself, I know how gratifying and at times stressful this job could be, I would recommend Liv to all my friends and family and will follow her to any store she might be transferred to. This is the most disorganized and unprofessional pet business I have ever encountered. I brought my dog in for a nail clipping a week ago. They do NOT take appointments for this as it is walk-in only. The very unfriendly woman at the desk explained to me that they were not taking walk-ins at this time because they were overbooked and to try calling next time. No problem, totally understandable, I get it. So yesterday I called and a sweet woman answered the phone and explained that I could come in any day before 2pm and to just bring his proof of rabies certification. Awesome! So today I bring him in, certificate in hand, and that same unfriendly woman greats me by saying, "Um, excuse me but do you have an appointment?" I explain to her that no we are just here for a nail clipping and that I called and was told to come in before 2pm, etc. The lady tells me in a very rude manner that they DO NOT ACCEPT WALK-INS. I asked her what the best course of action was if I am unable to make an appointment OR to walk in... She said, "I don't know what to tell you! It's very stressful for us here! It's not our fault people keeping coming in and overbooking us!" I'm sorry what?...lady I get it, youre overbooked and understaffed. I am a patient person but the way that she yelled at me (and in front of other customers at that) was outrageous. Outside of calling every 30 mins to see if someone is free, I'm not sure how to go about getting in there...and I won't. I made an appointment at PetSmart down the street for 15 mins later. They got me in and out and better yet they were kind to both me and my pup. See ya never Petco!! read more

I try to give this location chances to hope they will do better, but it seems like every time they seem very unpleased. It's challenging to find anyone who works there outside of the cash register, and they seem simply disinterested in being there. If you go there to get something it's fine but if you have questions or require assistance I think PetSmart down the street does a better job. read more

As other people have said, the customer service is terrible here. I was particularly unhappy with the cashier with red hair and a young man with glasses and tattoos. I came in trying to adopt an animal and walked through the entire store trying to find someone I could ask. I decided to ask the cashier who was extremely condescending about calling someone over to help me. The young man arrived and was equally condescending. He recommended some accessories that I will be returning because I felt pressured into buying them, and he did not explain any alternatives to me. When I went to check out, I had to speak to the same cashier and I stopped saying please and thank you halfway through the transaction because I could tell we were no longer having a normal, civil conversation. I hope that this issue will be addressed with something besides a generic Yelp apology from the manager. read more

I came there to buy some spray for cats and as it was my first time i ask one of the stuff members about different product and he didn't even knnow what i was talking about. I find everything what i need by myself. And that's a great service they promice? SEcond it's dirty and on shelves a lot of dust. Some of the cans for cat food are really sticky. Have no idea for how long they stay there but it's not good. And it's smell terrible. Really i couldn't handle it. I run fast get what ever i need and stuck on register. I respect old people but this person was SOOOOOO sloow. Really. I don't want seems rud but he's too old to work there. I wasn't happy going there. read more

This is by far my favorite Petco in the area. Petco seemed to be living in the 1980's, but this location has finally renovated to be the first Petco that I am aware of to do so. While I love how cheap Petco can be (typically more than Petsmart), with the except of this and only a few others, their store are typically smelly, old, and gross looking. For instance, the store in Norwood is absolutely appalling in stench and in efficiency. I never am able to get what I need, the place is gross, and top of it all it smells horrible. This particular location is a breath of fresh air! It's large, spacious, and with the recent remodel, you can tell that Petco is waiting to do renovations to some of their other store since they want to do it right (you can tell a lot of money was spend to renovate this place!). With that said, the one in Norwood is in dire need! Anyway, it's so modern, clean, organized, and so user friendly that it is my pet's personal favorite store. They actually have a lot of amenities as well including Vetco and grooming. Staff are friendly, attentive, and always are full of suggestions and answers for any questions. Service is always fast and the store is never too crowded. Clearance area is large, and has truly good prices (not fake clearance prices, that a lot of places have). I am looking forward to shopping in the Needham Petco again.... hopefully all of the Petco's follow this model, and will all act as this one does in the future. 5 stars. read more

I've been to this petco several times. One time I took my dog and cat here for low cost vaccinations on a Saturday. I do not recommend this. The techs working at the vaccination clinic were total dopes. They had no idea what kind of shots should be given to my pets and all they did was give me a headache. I got there early and still had to wait in line for over an hour. To top it all off, the shots were only about $5 less than what you would pay at a regular vet. The actual store is your standard petco. The employees are better than the ones at petsmart (but most people are). I cannot stand how hot the store is! It's about 20 degrees outside and the store is boiling hot and will definitely make you sweat. read more

I just had a VERY disturbing experience at this location. As I approached the cashier, the previous customer had brought in a deceased parakeet, which was laying on the counter next to the register. As I approached the cashier, he picked up the parakeet with his bare hands and then proceeded to reach for my products that I was purchasing. I was shocked that he handled the bird without gloves, as well as wasn't cleaning his hands prior to interacting with the next customer. I very quickly asked him if he could clean his hands before processing my order and he used hand sanitizer. To add on, this same cashier went onto the intercom several times saying " _____ come to the main register now!" At one point a fellow employee came to the front and he demanded that a black bag be brought to him to dispose of the parakeet immediately. Overall, I knew I should have walked out after seeing the way the employees were handling the precious animals, as well as lacking respect and professionalism in their working environment. I'd never go back and hope they get staff there that can care for the environment better. read more

Amazing service from the checkout to the Vetco staff. I brought in my two puppies for their first vet visit, the vet staff was absolutely amazing, especially Devon! They were extremely professional and helpful, no question was a stupid question. Dr. Paul was very informative and you could tell his number one concern was the well being of the pets. I felt extremely comfortable handing over my furbabies and will continue to use their services. The wonderful checkout gals on the store side explained the benefits of the Vital Care service and Pal Rewards, I ended up signing up and saved a bunch. This was the most positive vet visit I've ever had and already told others about it. Thank you for welcoming us and can't wait to return. read more

Roberta did an excellent job grooming our pooch! He is a shepherd, beagle, basset hound mix with fluffy shepherd type fur that is long on some parts of his body and short on others. He came out looking like a brand new dog, shiny, soft and smelling so much better! I took a chance based on others reviews on this location and am so glad I did! read more

Petco as a company is really bad. They lure costumers with their PALS program, but every time I have tried to use my 10 or 15 % of my next purchase, it never works. First of all they don't even inform you that you have earned enough points, and even if you check yourself, they always have had an excuse why you can't use them like it's not out yet. I also have found some of the employees very rude, moody and without desire to work. Very bad place. read more

I brought my cat here for his vaccination. I was there before the clinic people showed up. They were late. Had 5 people ahead of me. A vet technician came around to do the paper work. She was not very knowledgeable as when it was my turn I questioned the veterinarian and she told me I should not be doing the rabies at the same time as all the other vaccines. This Petco was extremely hot and uncomfortable also it smelled really bad. I was mad at myself to have driven my poor kitty for so far only to save few dollars, definitely not worth it. read more

I live in Needham and I love to shop the Needham Petco Store located less than 1 mile away. The Groomer Carleen is such a wonderful groomer, as well as a personable person who knows my dogs Willy and Mikey. I have never been disappointed at all. In fact, I have used many Groomers in the past and she is terrific! My dog Willy, a Parti-Poodle, has been groomed by Carleen many times and never forgets Willy's name or my name, and I find that impressive because she grooms many dogs at Petco. I was very surprised to see the negative comments about the Petco staff in the store area. I have been a satisfied customer since the Needham Petco Store opened and I am always treated well, and the staff has always gone out of their way to help me. I just visited the store in Needham and Matt helped me choose a healthier dog food, and explained to me that in order to choose a healthy dog food, he suggested checking the ingredients for corn because corn can be upsetting to a dog's digestive system, and it is not suitable for dogs. I learned a lot about dog food from Matt and was impressed with his knowledge, not forgetting he was busy and took the time to help me. Marc the store manager, Adam and Peter the cashier, were so helpful as well. Marc, the manager, helped me with a new harness for my Chi-Pom mix, and took the time to put Mikey's new name tag on his collar. Marc was professional, personable and quite knowledgable and went out of his way for me. Adam patiently engraved a name tag for Mikey, even though the label engraving machine is self service. I was so impressed to see they offered the tag machine right in the store as in the past, I had to order by mail, and that can take awhile. Peter, the cashier, helped me as much as possible when there were no customers waiting, which he took care of with a smile and friendly words. He helped me pick out just the right name tag for my small Chi which was so kind because I left my glasses at home. I also was reminded by Peter to use my Petco card, and saved $5.00. He then suggested I sign up to receive store saving coupons after helping me pick out the name tag. Thank you so much Petco, for hiring some great employees! I must go now I just received a call from Carleen the groomer, my dog Willy is ready to be picked up now if that is convenient. How efficient she is! This Petco was completely redone recently - for the better. I almost reviewed it a few months back, after a very dismal, unsatisfying visit. It was a dark, unkept and rather depressing store. I went back out of desperation one night and found it to be in the midst of a grand opening. My puppy came along and definitely enjoyed himself. They had a good selection of products, from food to toys to regular supplies. The staff is pretty knowledgeable and very friendly. They even seem to know something about pets - which I did not expect! Good stuff - I will be back! Love that they are open fairly late, too. read more

The staff is friendly here, but I never seem to be able to find what I'm looking for and have to go to another pet store. They love my dog and shower him with attention and treats every time I bring him here. Convenient because it's right around the corner from me. The groomer isn't the friendliest- he left a lot of stray hairs in my dog's armpits, and cut my dog's nails so short they bled. We won't be coming back for the grooming, even if the price is reasonable. read more

The best of the best dog groomers! I have an Eskimo dog and she is one hot mess when she gets dirty. Her fur is thick and matts easily forget the fact that she is pure white. She is also a diva dog and does not like being groomed or inconvenienced in any way. These groomers at Petco in Needham are sotop notch and great with any kind of dog. My dog goes in looking like she was caught in a tornado and comes out so fluffy white and smelling so good. She knows she looks good too because she prances right out to the car with a big happy smile. I should take before and after pics to post. I visited this Petco location with my family for the first time tonight. We drove about 50 minutes to this particular store because we heard this one had a great aquatics department. The selection of saltwater fish was decent. There was nothing especially unusual or exotic, but the tanks were well maintained and the fish looked healthy. We found a few things to buy. That being said, making decisions about what to buy proved very frustrating since many of the livestock tags and prices were either missing or incorrect. There was only one staff member working in this area and he was not particularly knowledgeable about the fish either. The coral tank was looking quite poor. Everything inside was showing poor coloration, not looking especially healthy, and the drag tank was just very dirty overall. To my amazement, there was a very nice Kessil light mounted above the tank that wasn't in use. From the looks of the corals, it hadn't been for some time. Tragic! read more
