I had gone here for dog grooming services in the past but had been going elsewhere recently. The place I'd been going had more attitude about itself than was warranted, their prices were high and although the lead groomer was fantastic the assistant was not. This Petco store is pretty small,offers grooming services, we stopped by today with an appointment with Vetco after not being able to get in to Atlas's regular Vet before our trip to FLA, needed his shots and they did a nice job, it was pretty quick and painless and now we are up to date on everything! read more

This has to be the most repulsive, disgusting, and repellant store in greater Boston area. Product is often unsealed, the smell is atrocious (ferret turds), I've found rodent feces on boxes of cat food, and they seem to be incapable of keeping normal hours. This store is dirty, smelly, shelves not properly stocked, employees are not helpful when you need help. The worse is how dirty the pet cages are for the exotics. We were there on Sunday and were disgusted with what we saw regarding the rat cage. Inhumane and horrible sight. I've posted photos and the next step is to contact the CEO of Petco about this and send him the photos. I know who he is and have his contact information as I've reported this store to him in the past about how they were keeping their Guinea pigs. We usually go to PetSmart which is clean, shelves are properly stocked and their employees actually do work there and clean out the cages on a regular basis. If I could give a zero for the just the phone call I just had I would, was trying to set something up with the groomer and told me to hang up dial the groomer I did so 3 times no answer so I ask the customer service rep to see if she can see availability on a walk in, a hard no is what she gave me as in no she won't do that. The staff here is wonderful! They keep the same staff employed here, so it's nice to always see the same people. I've bought all 4 of my ferrets here and always dealt with the same employee. Which is great because they pretty much know me by now. All 4 ferrets were in great health and are about a year old now. Upon entry you are walking into a barn, and it smells like it. There seems to be an issue with confinement because there were a few mice or white rats running around. The only thing that kept me from leaving was the fact that I drove 20 mins there and I was willing to put that all behind me to get the items I needed. I knew what I wanted walking in and I did not see it, so I asked one of the employees in the back who happened to be where I was looking for said Item. I asked simply if there was any way to check if a certain item was in stock they said "what ever we have is out already you just have to find it"....somewhat of a fair response if she had gave me just a second of her time and actually checked. I went for the front to ask for further assistance after being dismissed the first time, I asked for a bit of guidance on gathering materials for a saltwater tank. The employee who assisted me was kind and willing to help me, but from the very first item she grabbed I immediately knew she had no idea how to assist me. I explained a little more about exactly what I needed and then the issue became that there was just nothing in stalk ( which is understandable). I'm not saying anyone should lose their jobs cause its not their fault, But I will highly suggest that the owner, manager or who ever is in charge close for a weekend and Hire some cleaners and an organizer and stock up on a lot more items. read more

I would never advise pet owners, who take good care of their dogs, in particular, to have any dog training done there, for starters. Also, they are not nearly as competent as the folks at Methuen's animal shelter, aka, The Nevins Farm. I took a few of my dogs there, and since the Nevins family sponsored the new center years ago, they offer an incredible venue of classes for dogs, in particular. It is always clean, well cared for are all the animals, small or tall. We even took a special training class, with only 4 dogs, all behind large,"blind training" sections, and only 4 per class by a wonderful trainer, to get her more socialized as an adoptee. She passed with lots of help. This Petco is not a preferable one, although I seldom have done business there. Salem, NH has Petco and Petsmart to test the waters of any pet--fish to St.Bernard! read more

I'm in this store multiple times a month. Lisa, the Manager is phenominal, as are the other employees. Very friendly and helpful. Stephanie in grooming takes great care of our pups...even our tough one. I haven't used their training services yet, but I've seen the individual training sessions in action. I had my bichon groomed there for the first (AND LAST) time this past Sunday, 7/17. To say it was a hack job is being kind. I asked for a bichon cut (since she is a bichon) which means she would have a very round look to her face. Well, someone cut the hair on her ears up to where her actual ears are! And they are completely uneven! I asked for her to be cut short for summer, she has tufts of hair all over her body where they simply missed!! Her supposed to be round head looks like she is in the Marines now! She has a buzz cut! It is horrible!!! And they had the nerve to charge me for this! Never will I set foot in that store again. I have had my dog 11 years and get her groomed regularly, she has never looked so miserable! I recently moved and this is why I tried Petco in N. Andover---NEVER again. I recommend Molly as a dog trainer for any dog out there. She is direct, and knowledgeable. She also takes the time to make it fun for any pet. She utilizes applied behavior analysis in all of her training techniques and let's my dog make the drcisions. She just teaches him how to make the right ones for an awesome reward!! 08/29/2011 I had my Lhasa Apso groomed there for the first and LAST time, On August 26,2011. I asked for a haircut but I was told that my dog had to many Matt's so I agree to get her shaved. Once I got home I realized my dog was acting Funny and didn't want to play( which is very un usual of her)I realized that Lola hat a huge cut under her right ear which after two days is still bleeding. She had shave cut in her butt and she refuses to seat. My dog looks sad and in pain. I had to put Vaseline in the rest of her skinned shave body. When I called Kim "the Groomer's"to ask about her noticing Lola's Cuts she had the nerve to respond in a very defensive way "saying " You asked for a shave cut" and I said not leave my dog bleeding and itchy. In my conversation with her over the phone she never apologized or gave me the benefits of the doubt that I was serious about my dogs bleeding ear and legs. My dogs entire chest area has skin no hair. She looks like a rat. I still can believe I was charge to get my dog abuse and traumatized. My friends and family of 5 dogs will not put a foot on this store again. I have groomed my dog regularly, she has never looked so miserable! I also recently moved to the area and this is why I tried Petco in N.andover.....and IT IS TERRIBLE at least the grooming dept. Too bad, it would have been so convenient. with this type of care, I recommend that this grooming location is shut down. read more

We bring our dog Shadow to see Crystal at the grooming salon and she is the best! We don't go very often but she remembers shadow every time and makes sure to squeeze her in when she can. She always is so sweet to our dog and is the best at cutting her nails! Thanks crystal!!! read more

I would not recommend going here to adpot any type of animal, especially the geckos. They are not kept in the right conditions from early on stages, and the workers seem to be completely unaware of the right habitat conditions young lepord geckos require. I've come to find out one gecko I adopted from Petco is extremely sick and has a parasite, and most likely impacted lungs from being kept on sand as a baby, thanks to petco this gecko barely has a chance. The person working in the reptile section sold this to me without my knowledge, so that means they must have 0 knowledge of reptile care, overall bad experience, would not recommend going here. read more

We brought our new (adult) dog to the PetCo on Waverly Rd. in N. Andover for his first haircut and nail trimming. When we picked him up we noticed him limping, but didn't think anything of it. After a few more days, though, we brought him to the vet to see if anything was wrong and they found two things. First, they said it looked like something heavy was dropped on his foot and it was swollen 3 times its normal size. Additionally, they said his nails were so long, one was in-grown, and the others had curled underneath his foot and were jabbing into him. We went to Petco to complain, and the tech said she didn't do anything wrong. We spoke to the manager, who defended his tech. When we specifically pointed out that his nails weren't clipped and we paid PetCo extra to have them clipped, the tech did admit that she couldn't clip his nails because he was moving too much. However, they REFUSED to give me a refund for any services, INCLUDING THE COST OF NAIL CLIPPING, even though they readily admit they didn't do it, and charged us for it. So, they fractured his foot, admited to charging me for services they didn't complete, and the only thing they'd do is give me the name of the regional manager.You can be darn sure I'll be calling him shortly. I would recommend NOBODY ever take their dog for grooming services there. I'm disgusted, and am pursuing other action as well. read more

I've been taking my labradoodle to the grooming salon at Petco in North Andover for three years, because it's cheap and the hours are convenient. Now I feel guilty for leaving my puppy in the care of such unprofessional and poorly trained people so many times. Words can not describe my dissatisfaction. We had our (57#) labradoodle puppy groomed by Stephanie, the grooming manager, and were very happy with the service. She spent some time asking me about my dog before she started and lured him to the back with treats. Although his prior (and first) grooming experience was traumatic, when I came to pick him up, not only did he look great but he pranced up to see me as if he hadn't a care in the world. The prior groomer had not addressed his ears, which were a mess, and Stephanie did a great job cleaning them up. He did have a couple of mats, but they were trimmed and blended very nicely. On a final note, the other dogs I saw being groomed also looked calm and happy. read more

I'm with Nan C. and Steve P. I will never set foot in Petco again. I have brought my now 12 year old small terrier there several times for nail clippings and told them ahead of time that she gets tremendously nervous and shakes at the groomers. They did OK clipping her nails. The other day I brought her in the afternoon to be groomed and clipped and bathed and told them her vet had recently precribed ativan for her and that I had given her one. She was shaking even with the ativan. They told me they could not groom a dog who had been given ativan. I told them I was unaware and could I bring her back the next morning when she had not had the ativan. They said fine and made a 11:30 appointment for the following morning. I brought my dog in again and informed them she was not given any ativan. She was shaking just as she had on every occasion I brought her to this or any groomer. The groomer was looking very strangely at my dog so I told her if she was uncomfortable grooming my dog because she was nervous, I understood and would take her elsewhere. She said she was concerned the medication would have a bad effect on her. I said I already told you she wasn't given any medication but if you are not comfortable grooming her I can take her elsewhere. The groomer informed me that my dog was shaking just like she was yesterday when I said I had given her the ativan. I told her that the ativan does not make my dog shake but that I give my dog ativan because she shakes and said again that she had no medication that day I also added that if she thought I was lying we could go somewhere else. She said "Go Ahead". I said "I will" and left. When I spoke to the manager Stephanie the next day instead of apologizing she told me that when anyone mentions ativan it's a red flag. To which I said then why didn't you tell me to begin with on the first visit that you didn't want to groom my dog? Stephanie said she thought the dog might be in a "different condition". Who in God's name thinks a dog is going to be more calm without their anxiety medication than they were when they were given it. Besides, they are groomers not veterinarians they shouldn''t be trying to "evaluate" dog's "conditions" Not to mention the fact that my dog had been there several times and on every occasion was shaking like a leaf but they didn't remember that or care to check tthe computer for her profile history. I would like to say that my dog didn't get hurt, however, whe was turned away twice from a grooming appointment for which she gets exceedingly nervous just walking through the doors. The second time without benefit of medication. Bottom line, I took my dog to the groomers. They told me they would groom her if I brought her back when she had not been given ativan. I did. They still turned us away. I called PetSmart where I used to have my dog groomed before I decided the location wasn't as convenient as Petco. Even though it had been over a year since they had groomed my dog they remembered her and that she shook and gave her an appointment. They handled her and groomed her beautifully. Scarlett was nervous as usual but they are used to all sorts of doggie personalites and know the meaning of customer service. PetSmart is far in away superior to Petco. In fact they are not even in the same league. read more

I had come to this petco a couple of times to get my bichon groomed with no issues. We always just have them give him a puppy cut and shave his fur fairly short, especially in the summer months. However this past time I brought him in and I was told that he had mats that would need to be removed before they could groom him. He did have a few, but nothing that would have taken more than 5 minutes to brush out, and we asked them to just shave them off anyways. I cannot believe they had the audacity to tell me that I needed to groom my dog before I could take him back to be groomed there! What's the point! We have had our rescue terrier groomed at the NA Petco for 2 years now. Stephanie, the head groomer, is wonderful. She is patient and friendly, and our dog loves her. I highly recommend her services as our terrier is full of energy, and always comes home tired and happy. Hint-the teeth brushing is a great deal as an add on service. read more

It was a challenge with all the matting but she was creative and gave him the cutiest cut!!! My wife and I have been bringing in our 3 dogs to the North Andover location for a couple years now with no problems. The staff is always very helpful and treats my dogs like family. I wish I could say that about my last visit. First problem was when I called to make an appointment for grooming and the woman on the phone must have been new cause she couldnt find my information. Told me I had to bring in new copies of my dogs vaccines and wanted all their information again. I was completely calm and asked her if I could speak to someone else, thats when she got extremely rude with me and practically accused me of lying about having history there. Long story short, it all got figured out (by another sales person) and we made the apt. After my dogs were groomed and my wife picked them up-she was running late and was sarcastically told "this is a grooming facility, not a kennel" by a woman rolling her eyes named 'Steffanie'. And apparently the same woman also dragged one of my dogs on its leash to the front. My wife came home in histerics because of how bad the customer service was that day. She now refuses to take our dogs back there and for her to be this upset-The service must have been extremely terrible. I dont know what happened over the years, but people there used to be so nice,friendly, treated animals and customers with respect. read more
