Was pleasantly surprised to see some pets like guinea pigs, mice, parakeets, fishes and even chameleons on sale and their enclosures were fairly well maintained. I took my dog to the Petco groomers Friday 10/19/25 at 10:00 am, and not long after found a flea on her. I ignored it, as I didn't want to make a big deal if there was only one, and then found more two days later. I called with this finding, and got countered with an unfriendly, unhelpful response. My dog didn't have fleas before, and hadn't been in contact with any other dogs or animals between the time I picked her up and dropped her off. I explained this on the phone, and got told they followed their cleaning protocols, though provided no evidence or support. I paid a good amount of money for the service ($120 for a facial trim, bath, and nail clipping plus tip). I was given no offer for a treatment or refund, and am very disappointed in the customer service I received. read more

They have a "Out of order" sign but it works perfectly fine they just put it to not clean it. There is a young lady named Azia who works at this Petco. She is incredibly hostile and rude to polite customers. It seems that she enjoys getting her anger out on others and being disrespectful to people who do not deserve an ounce of it. Petco management should truly prioritize addressing the repeated complaints against Azia and let go of her instead of passing her offenses as "teaching moments" (the exact words I was told today). She intentionally makes customers angry by making inflammatory comments and I am sure causes the store to lose sales and a respectable reputation as a result. Not everyone will tolerate her ongoing verbal abuse and it would be no surprise if she eventually causes a physical altercation. From my understanding, she has already been cursed out by other customers for her behavior. While I did not do that in response to her making horrible comments to me when I very kindly asked a question about a cat treat -- I was certainly offended. Came here for grooming and they had availability same day I called, for both my dogs. Quick and easy process. Dropped them off at 1:30pm picked them up at 3:45pm and they are as happy as ever and smell even better! No complaints for this simple bath, nail cut and teeth brushing. I took my dog in for grooming today, and while the two younger ladies were very friendly and professional, my experience with one of the staff was extremely unpleasant. The shorter fat lady who first greeted me was very rude. When I dropped my dog off, she snapped at me saying I had to wait for my stylist to come. Later, when I came back to pick him up, she greeted me with "what do you want?" and then told me to go pay for my dog in a very unfriendly, unprofessional tone. What concerned me most was seeing her handle another dog very aggressively while grooming. If someone does not have patience or kindness toward animals, they should not be working in this environment. The rest of the staff were great, but this one employee really needs to learn how to treat both people and dogs respectfully. read more

I had an appointment for my Benji at 8am, I dropped him off at 8am I chose the cut and add on. I told the young lady I had an appointment at 1pm will he be done she said it takes 3-4 hours so yes. At 1157 I didn't receive a call so I went to the store the man at the desk told me he wasn't done I asked why he had been there since 8am and it was now 1215pm. I told the man I asked if he would be done and he should've been I needed my dog back. They have done a TERRIBLE job on my Pomeranian. You can clearly see attached photos that her fur is completely uneven and some parts are even untouched. I've also specifically told the groomer to cut the hair very short around the ears but they didn't listen to my specific request. They spent 5 HOURS for this horrible haircut. I'm so upset I wasn't the one dropping my baby off because I would have turned around and rescheduled my appointment. This young lady though is nice is a terrible groomer. She butchered my baby the first time she groomed her and I said I never wanted her to groom her again. My husband not knowing this was that same young lady even made it easy for her. The groomers were nice. However what I will comment on is the sales associate on the floor. I went up to one woman today, shoulder length , balayage hair with glasses who was unpacking stock. I went up to her with a question and she almost seemed like she was annoyed that I even asked (I simply asked where she could direct me to grooming). "What?" And "gotta go over to grooming" were the only words spoken from this woman. Hello, I wanted to get a new Blue tang fish for my office saltwater tank and decided to go to Petco in Piscataway. The young lady Bella was beyond amazing with catching the fish that was inside there large 120 gallon tank filled with other fish and live rock. It took at least 30 mins to catch this fish with moving around the live rock and avoiding the other fish. While working on this she was also assisting others at the sametime that had questions about other items. Bella friendliness and customer service should be commended by Petco. Just wanted to let them know she is a "Rock Star" of and employee and gave me and my friend the level of Disney World customer Service. Grooming manager dog shamed regarding Doodle's curls/mats. When I brought it to her attention, she got upset, got the store manager and refused to groom my dog. (They requested I change to Sunday @ 9 am. We compromised for Sunday 8 am.) She flipped it that I talked to her the wrong way when I simply pointed out my perspective. Even when I asked her to groom the dog because of getting up early to bring the dog, she refused. I'm sorry she didn't like hearing what I wanted to say, but she got to say what she wanted. Petco is not reliable and has closed some of their grooming facilities. Had an appointment for my dog on Tuesday and received a call Tuesday morning that groomer had emergency. Understandable, so re-scheduled for Friday, but when the same thing happened again on Friday, I asked if there was not some other groomer who could do my dog but was told they were all booked. We don't usually use pet stores since we primarily can find things at Walmart or target. While asking for help on buying certain cat litters, we were easily able to find help. It wasn't so busy either. They sold some of the cheapest cat litter I've seen. 30 pounds for 10 dollars and return to refill the bucket for 5 dollars. We also were able to buy a covered cat litter box at 20 percent off with a petco card costing 30 dollars which was a better brand than walmart for 24 dollars. I give this place four stars just because the attitude of one of the staff members was not the friendliest. read more

Got a phone call an hour or so into the service asking me to come pick her up an hour into the service because she was bleeding and broke her teeth. My faithful childhood dog went to the hydrant in the sky, my current place doesn't allow pets, and I've sincerely thought about trying Rent-a-Pet to curb my snorgle addiction. Instead, I visit Petco on my free Saturdays and play with the cats and dogs waiting to be adopted. This helps to acclimate the animals to their future owners as well as satisfies my need to squee over ear flaps and belly rolls. This particular Petco has hamsters and plenty of fish too. The store is meticulously clean and organized. Every time I needed pet supplies (Reptomins to cedar shavings to squeaky toys galore) I can find it here. TRIGGER WARNING GRAPHICI feel horrible for the animals that are in this petco, my boyfriend and I went to this petco looking for a certain type of fish to find dead fish, sick fish, and fishes that didn't belong together. I went to go look at the cats that were for adoption and the cats look Sickly, the fish were eating the dead ones so that means the fish weren't being fed and the aquatics guy was just on his phone. Certain fish can't live together and they had fish that didn't get along in the same tank and the fishes were attacking each other. Eating each others fins off. the food they gave the cats look like it's been sitting in there kennels for days, the furry friends meaning the hamsters, Guinea pigs, and ferrets, all had no food or water and the Ferrets were sitting in they're own filth, there cage smelt like death, not to mention they didn't look ok either, one of the ferrets looked as if any moment he was going to take his last breath, we were watching a dog get groomed and the lady was being extremely rough with the dog, she had grabbed him by his head to make him stop moving, and had the blow dryer directly in the dogs ear, please don't get your dog groomed here, This place needs to get shut down, I wanted to cry seeing all those animals not getting taking care of. They took 3 hours and 45 minutes to "groom" my dog. The groomer was not friendly. Even worse, another groomer was taking care of a little fella and he cried at some point, she was being too rough. When my Cooper came out, he looked terrible. They did a horrible job with his hair. He's a King Charles Spaniel, he was born cute; and now he looks like naked. The grooming manager Janet took note on what I asked for but gave my baby boy to a new girl named Monica who completely messed up my dogs fur. She gave him the worst haircut I have ever seen talking about it was layers? Like what this is human hair you give layers too. It was disgusting. I told her to fix it by shaving him down which I didn't want to do because it's winter but I had no choice. They completely messed up on the way I wanted to have his tail cut. This made me want to cry it was the worst. It was unfixable. I hear Janet yell at Monica saying how she should of read the paper where they put the instructions but if you're the manager training someone she should of been monitoring them. Such a disgrace. Such a horrible job. I'm never coming to this Petco ever. I just moved from NY to NJ 3 months ago and needed a grooming place. THIS IS NOT IT. If I could give them less of a rating I would. Set up an appointment for grooming a few days prior and took my dog there on time on the day of the appointment. Was told it would take a few hours. We had the wrong number on the sheet so I made sure they took a note of the correct number. So I did a bit of shopping for my pets and came back every so often to make sure she was okay. Then I decided to go to Lowe's while this was happening because they said they would call me, I came out of Lowe's and all three groomers were sitting outside eating lunch, not doing any sort of job or even staying near the grooming area. I get it, you need a break, but you need to make sure someone stays back with the pets to make sure they are okay. As it can be a very stressful experience for some. Went back in the store and watched a few training sessions, then the grooming manager, Janice, begins banging on the window trying to get my attention. So I go back into the grooming center and she asks which dog is mine, so I tell her, and she goes "oh, I've been trying to call you, your dog is ready". She says that she needs to just do the nail trimming on my dog and meanwhile tells me to go wait at the front of the store with the cashier (to pay). She comes out a bit later and tells me that she is going to take off all the charges and not have me pay. I thought this was very odd, but was like okay. She then comes out with my shaking dog who is soaking wet and says that she "expressed her glands and that she must've scared her". Also very odd, as that was supposed to be something that they do in the service that I had made the appointment for (nail, bath, teeth, expression of glands). Towards the anticipated end of the grooming, I went to the counter to wait to pay and to get my dog when I was insulted by the 'grooming manager'. She said the i was not allowed to stand there and asked me why I was standing there. When I told her that there was no other place to wait as the training area was occupied, she said that she was 'conducting' a business and I shouldn't wait there! How on earth can one conduct a business by being rude to one's customers!? I have given 1 * to Petco as this is their minimum otherwise in my opinion they deserve a big ZERO *. And, needless to say, I have deleted their app from my phone and will visit their store again unless and until I receive a full apology in writing from PETCO. read more

I found an abandoned kitten(maybe a week or two old). After some googling found out that you can only feed young kittens with kitten formula. I called Petco right at 7PM last night when they have already closed, and Jason picked up and asked me what I needed and I explained to him the situation. He offered to stay until I reach him. When I arrived, Jason and Bryan both stay late for me and had the kitten formula ready for me at the counter. They also gave me some advice and a contact for a person that may be able to help to take the cat in. I cannot thank them enough! read more

Been to this place more time that I can count. Always clean and well stocked and all the animals seemed to be well cared for as well. The fish tanks are always clean, birds and rodents look well taken care of. I have never used the dog salon so I cannot comment on that but I do see plenty of people using it. I love that they keep space for rescue cats to be seen and adopted. They also sponsor a reduced cost vaccine clinic every month or so, and have seasonal events such as pictures of your pet with Santa, the Easter Bunny, etc. Overall, a good place to get your pet supplies. Definitely check out their clearance supplies- I always find some great deals! read more

I went to buy supplies for my first ever betta fish. They had all the supplies that I needed as in yes, they have tanks, filters, heaters, stuff for inside the tank, food, etc., but there isn't a very wide selection of each. If you are going for a small desk top tank like I did, you aren't going to find very many things for it. For that, I took off a star. Also, in terms of service, I asked a young man for help and he was happy to help me, but he told me the wrong information. He recommended a tank and told me that it came with water conditioner, food, etc. when actually it was just the tank. I asked him a few questions and he ultimately seemed unsure and had to ask a more knowledgeable colleague for every question. Not saying the service was horrible because ultimately in the end, I did get my questions answered, but I felt like we were playing telephone for every question. read more

Been taking my Aussie here to get groomed for years with no problems. We usually have the same stylist who knows my dog doesn't like the hair dryers and is vocal when placed in a crate. He is not a biter or nipper - but he is a total attention hog. Again - never any problems as they are familiar with his personality. When I brought him to Petco in June our regular stylist was on duty but for whatever reason (never explained to me), a woman I hadn't seen in Grooming serviced him. When I picked him up she said he was "bad." She said it the way you'd describe a toddler. What exactly was "baaaaadddd" she didn't say. And our regular stylist just stood there silently working on another dog. It's odd that no one could explain where the appointment went sour and even odder that it wasn't mentioned when I called to check up on my dog or when they called for me to pick him up. I decided at that moment we were done with Petco. My dog has been called a lot of things - some more colorful than others - but never "bad" and certainly not by a service professional. When his next cut rolled around I took him to a grooming salon that opened near my home. I received a thorough written report that he was air-dried, let the groomer grind his nails and he was "great." You tried it Petco. You tried it. :/ read more

We had our yorkie groomed twice by Kate. She is incredibly caring and professional. I am a crazy dog mom and he is a very anxious pup, and I feel very comfortable with my pup in her care. The repeat delivery shipping is unacceptable, poor packing, boxes left out in the rain. Phillipsburg NJ store sold me defrosted and refrozen raw cat food. Store manager called me and was very curt and almost accusing me of scamming. Pet Value had a 3 lb bag better value then Petco 1.25 lb bag of raw bits for cats if you do the math on the unit price. Did you ever hear of leaving a package in a sheltered area in the rain so the cardboard does not get soaked and fill up with bugs, send a email when package is delivered? Going with Chewy now for repeat delivery, prices are good and Fed X delivery leaves packages on my porch which is covered from the elements. Problems solved, 3 strikes you are out Petco. read more

I had a very bad experience at this petco, If I can give negative stars I would. The rodents cages are really dirty they have poop all over their toys and wheels and no water and you can see urine all over the cages. Some rodents if not all look extremely sick like their dying.
