we needed help called employee over he came over rudley and said he was their for five minutes why didnt we call him over, at that time we were deciding which fish to get, so we dont understand why he was so rude about it, we wanted to get a few fish for our tank he didnt want to sell it to us because our fish tank of 20 gallons was "too small" and said those gold fish were dirty fishes and said unless we were gonna clean it often, he wouldn't sell us any, we were planning on switching them later on to a bigger fish tank but man just rudley walked away so we had no choice but to leave without any fish. They need nicer and ready to help employees. read more

My golden retriever went in looking like a golden came out with hair shorter than a labs. Completely shaved him. I asked to have his feet trimmed and between his paws. Appointment was at noon still wasn't ready at 4pm. Groomer too busy taking smoke breaks and started another dog when mine wasn't even finished. Worst place ever. I used to take my dogs here. There was one groomer who was excellent. Then another groomer started to groom my dogs and the dogs looked bad. My dogs are sweet and loveable and everyone who has groomed them have Told me they had no problems with these two gems. They even cut my dogs in a few places by using the clipper too close. They should know better than that of all places, they should know better! I complained but the grooming area manager but she could care less...never Did anything,...So i just decided never to go back. Just not worth my dogs being treated that way and being cut, and they Are not cheap! I am so glad i left because i found such a better groomer and even more Affordable and closer to home. Today I went to get a bath and haircut for my puppy. The groomer and I agreed to just a trim because it's winter and who wants a bald dog. However, when I got her back I saw she was pretty close shaven. I was in a rush to get home and the dog hadn't eaten all day and it was 1 pm. So, I gave her a $20 cash tip and left. When I got home my family and I had a real chance to examine the haircut and we realized how short her coat was. My husband, children and I were so upset. But what could I do, just never go back. To add insult to injury I soon get a call asking how I left my tip. I said I gave you a $20 cash tip and she realized she was calling the wrong person!!! So I told her how upset my family and I were about our puppy's short haircut in the middle of the winter. She told me she had to shave the puppy's fur short because she had some matting on her legs! What! So you make the whole body short because of matting? You don't even call the customer to ask. Anyway, needless to say, I don't recommend this place. Poor service and poor communication. Now I'm spending more money to buy her sweater and coats so she doesn't freeze to death! I'm writing this review so you don't make the same mistake! read more

Terrible! We will never use their services again. We asked them to trim our Golden retriever/chow mix like the previous time. I even pointed to the hair length that I wanted. Instead they shaved him down to his skin. When I spoke with the store manager she was rude, condescending and insisted that's what we asked for. read more

First of all, the only reason I went to petco other than my normal groomers was be da use the lady quoted me $40 for a full bath and trim for my chihuahua. We get there and the staff were not very welcoming, which was fine I thought maybe a busy time, I dropped her off at 2:30 PM, it was 5:15 PM and I thought what the heck, it's been THREE HOURS. I go in and ask why it's taking so long, if she's almost done, they very rudely tell me 15 more minutes, I said okay. They said they would CALL ME when she was done, I ended up waiting about 45 more minutes before I went back in and asked about her, they said she was done and her paperwork has been sitting at the desk! It was definitely NOT $40, it turned out to be $75, which I could've paid ALOT LESS for GOOD SERVICE AND A BETTER HAIRCUT. Her hair is so choppy. I will DEFINITELY be sticking to BESTFRIENDS GROOMING in Calverton, they are so welcoming and are done in an hour and a half AND give her a cute bow when she is finished. This store is laid out nicely, clean, and stocks the vegetarian dog food that my dog requires. Their prices are not discount, but their stock is plentiful. No one yelled at me when my small,nervous dog pooped all over the floor. Good luck trying to find anyone to help you find anything in this store.... As usual, this Petco is understaffed...which is not the staff's fault! Petco, you need to hire more people to work in this store!!! read more

Worse experience ever. Anastasia the groomer, was off the day she was my dogs groomer. I had to shout to tell her to stop cutting , she was so close to my dogs skin , it was down to the raw skin in many spots to include around her neck both sides, her belly and her buttocks. My dog was in pain for over a week until the hair started to grow in slowly, I had to keep a cone on her, else she would try to lick to ease the raw and bloody areas. Everything at Petco is overpriced !! Shopping on-line is cheaper and you can even find free shipping. Not enough grooming staff, and grooming prices are ridiculous ! They get anywhere from $55 to $75, to groom a Shih-Tzu !!! They are out of their minds !!! My daughter is a groomer but unfortunately lives too far from me. I found a few grooming shops near Riverhead that only charge $45 which I feel is reasonable and fair. I always give a $5 tip and I am always happy with their work. The private groomer is in it for the love of animals as much as making a living. read more

This Petco is one of the only places near my house that sells live food for reptiles (crickets, wax worms, etc) and I have that Pals Reward account as well so I always would shop here for that reason. Every time I go to this location, there are never any associates on the floor available for assistance - and almost every time I go to check out at the register, the cashier (never more than one available at this location) are just on their cell phone and will make a dirty look at me like me being ready to check out is a disturbance to them and their time. Most jobs don't allow any employees to have cell phones on the floor, let alone be able to use them while on the clock on the sales floor because it's unprofessional and causes poor social skills while working. It doesn't help that the past few times I go in, there has been absolutely no live food available at all within the timespan of a month. I guess I'll have to switch to the Petsmart down the block where they have employees constantly moving and helping customers, plus they always have crickets in stock. read more
