Tried to give me the wrong dog!.... I brought my dog in for her scheduled grooming appointment at 1:00pm on July 3, 2025. The groomer said she'd be done by 3:00pm. I went back to the store at 3pm. Groomer said she'd hadn't even started yet. I was shocked and annoyed thinking my anxious dog had been waiting all that time. I told the groomer that I'd just take my dog home. She went in the back and proceeded to hand me the WRONG dog. I told her that wasn't my dog. She then said that she was almost done with my dog. (What?!?) We finally left at 3:30pm after she brushed out my dog. I will never go back there again. read more

Do not take your Doodle here for a groom. I'm a responsible doodle mom that makes sure my girl gets a full grooming service every 6-8 weeks. Our puppy is nearly a year and we have never had matting. Our regular groomer moved and is farther away, so we decided to try Petco. Hey, it was good enough for our Weimaraner to get a bath and a nail trim. So, at 7.5 weeks since the last groom we took her in, explained we wanted her to stay curly, lashes trimmed, beard short (Neary shaved) and legs on the shorter side, but still long enough to curl. There was no matting. I brush her several times a week and did a once over the night before with a rake and a comb, parting to see the skin to make sure no tangles escaped... she came back shaved except for her tail and her head. She looks ridiculous. There are no curls. If you don't want to groom a doodle, don't. But petco tried to tell me that's what I asked for. Um... nope. I'll never take a dog here for grooming again. I will drive to find someone who knows what they're doing. And for the record, they didn't try to tell me there was matting. Again, they tried to tell me I asked for my dog to be cut at 1/2 inch. That's a shave, folks, and not what I asked for or what a doodle cut is. read more

I dropped my dog off to get groomed at the Stanwood location, and after we looked at the grooming chart to figure out how much to clip off of him, I felt confident they would do a good job. When I picked him up he was groomed as close to his skin as possible, like a summer cut/shave. I was shocked to say the least! My dog was also kind of freaked out, and has never acted that way, he is used to being groomed and has a wonderful temperament. At the Stanwood Petco they make you pay up front and tip before you pick up your dog. I paid over 100$ to have my dog basically shaved without any styling. I will never take my dog to get groomed there again. Beware! read more

Overall a great experience that would normally earn a 5, but the store manager (as she identified herself) was not very professional. Being rude to the Vetco techs in front of customers is no way professional. If she needs to discuss policy, that is something you do behind closed doors or away from others. Not putting the techs on the spot in front of everyone, making the whole atmosphere awkward. Everyone else at the store is great. They are nice, helpful, and friendly. But not that manager. Nothing against this particular location. What is a terrible policy is the app. I spent about $250 on a couple of cat trees in May. I've bought about 5 bags of cat food since then. I've been using my phone number for rewards and have yet to see anything. Then, they said I need to download the app. Well, the app was difficult to figure out how to connect my phone number. Now, I'm seeing ONE purchase. Everything else has disappeared. Before I added my phone, I saw five purchases from 2020 and zero from 2021. WTF? Why bother being loyal if your purchase isn't getting counted!?!? read more

1. My dogs had been clients for grooming there for years. Always had good reports. Typically would walk in and they would take my dogs right back to be groomed. 2. Upon walking in I saw no other dogs being groomed and two NEW staff members, neither one of them appeared remotely friendly. 3. Out the gate tried to refuse service bc I left our vax receipt in the car but had all other vaxxed proof. I had my toddler and two dogs with me. I had to run back to the car holding them all and get it. Fine. 4. My dogs lay down and we are all waiting while these two new unfriendly dog groomers are just starting and exchanging hushed words. Other dogs walk in, my 8 pound nothing shitzu starts barking as they tend to do. 5. We've been now waiting with my toddler and two dogs for 20 minutes while those two do nothing. Again fine we can wait. I guess. 6. Another set of dogs come in and my small dog barks, then lays back down. My large dog is a leash puller so she's pulling and then sitting back down. 7. Rude groomer says "it's going to be a no for today" and goes on to tell me; the same person whose been waiting for them to take my dogs while managing a wiggly child and two dogs and paperwork-that they also wouldn't be taking my dogs as clients anymore and I would have better luck with a mobile groomer and or private salon because my 8 pound nothing shitzu is making them uncomfortable. Same dog who I explained got repeatedly great reports for grooming. 8. I was exhausted and disappointed and knew they never wanted to work in the first place and just had me waiting for no reason other than to find a reason to not do their jobs. 9. They also had someone else from another department walk over and stare at us while this all ensued. Although I never once raised my tone I just said I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable but I'm very dissatisfied because my dogs have always come here and were received well. 10. I left completely embarrassed and disappointed. Side note; they literally looked at my child and I with such disgust when we were chilling for the most part? I have been taking my dog here for years to get shampoo and nails trimmed. Today I show up for her appointment and am asked about paperwork. I have never had to do this before. So I attempt to explain this and the girl says "you checked a box agreeing". I again try to explain after all these years it didn't even cross my mind. And when they called to confirm my appointment they should have informed me at that time. As I'm saying this, she walks into a room and closes the door. Are you kidding me? Girl with cat ears as a head band needs to grow up and learn customer service. I made a point to speak to the manager on site, write this review and will be calling later to ensure her upper management is aware. It is not ok to walk away as a customer is speaking. I have visited this store 3 times, as I don't like to write a business off after one bad experience. the first time I took 3 small dogs for nail trims - they required a signed waiver of responsibility and wouldn't do one dog because he had seizures in the past. fair enough. they took the other 2 and led them back in their own harnesses, and the staff that day seemed ok. the next time we were looking for a specific item and told them which aisle we searched, and were loosely directed to look exactly where we'd told them we'd already been. the store generally doesn't seem very well stocked. no real interest helping us find anything. the last time was one small dog for a nail trim. after making us sit there 20 minutes they asked for another signed waiver, then put a choke style lead on him and started pulling him away by his neck, then tried to pet him after. the dog snapped a little then so they wouldn't take him, stating company Regs said they have to use the choker, which wasn't used the last time. fine with me, the dog was confused and terrified. petco should close this store if they can't staff it with anyone who cares. i decided to add my review after reading other much worse experiences people had there. i will drive further to find actual customer service and products. read more

Truly a horrible experience for my two border collies. My last visit they didn't finish one of my dogs who is super sweet so they said it was she was because she was aggressive. (Never has had a problem in 10 years). The grooming for both dogs was horrible. STAY AWAY. Unprofessional revolving door of unqualified staff. Too bad for our local community. read more

Love this Petco! In fact one of the only Petco's I will take my dogs into. This particular location is always clean with friendly and professional staff. Stanwood has the BEST trainer, Jess. She is so knowledgeable and has done wonders training my dogs. Wolf in the grooming department is phenomenal at her job. My boys look amazing and she is so patient and kind as she grooms. I feel very fortunate to have these 2 ladies helping me care for my beautiful fur babies. read more

I hate leaving negative reviews, but I was very frustrated when I left Petco grooming yesterday. I called them to see if I could get a same-day grooming appointment for my small dog. The first person who picked up the phone said they were booked, but then asked a coworker who got on the phone with me. We discussed what I needed and I said I could be there in 15-20 mins. She offered to make an opening for me. I arrived at the store in 20 mins time and had to get in line at the grooming register behind another lady dropping off her dog. We had to wait a few mins before anyone even came out from the back to start checking her in. After the dog ahead of me was finally finished AND the employee took a lengthy phone call, it was our turn.... Only to be told "Lori waited the 15-20 mins but then went on lunch." I tried explaining to the employee that I HAD been there on time (surely she saw me standing there staring at her for 10 mins?!) but that I had to wait in line until my turn. She said she'd go ask Lori and disappeared in the back for a few mins. When she came back out she said "I can't find Lori but she said she waited the 15-20 mins." The whole interaction was very unprofessional and unapologetic. I understand that they were "squeezing me in" but I did what they asked and it was a waste of my time. She could have told me to arrive in 30 mins so she could have taken her lunch first OR she could have just told me they're booked and I wouldn't have wasted my time and energy. On a separate occasion, I brought my dog into the store for a walk-in nail trim. It was about 5:30pm on a weeknight, only to find that the grooming salon was closed already. The grooming salon should be open their posted hours, especially when they say they take "walk-ins". My dog has never been groomed at this location so I can't attest to the quality of their work. I gave them 2 stars, instead of only 1, because the store is very clean, bright, and well-organized. My other employee experiences had been great. However, this interaction further supports my plan to find a quality, local groomer in my new area. I rather interact and support a small grooming business than feel like just "another number" to these big box retailers. read more

I have used this Petco before in spite of the fact that I had a bad experience with the one in Twin Lake (will not use that grooming service ever again). But recently a incident occurred that I felt that needed to be praised in how it was handled. First, there was a scheduling issue. I showed up at 1 pm but my appointment in their records was 11 am. Not sure what happened but I suspect it was an error in communication. Not a problem except that I was leaving the state and I had three dogs to groom. Especially my older brother's dog as my brother had passed away and I was holding his memorial a couple of days later for my brother and bringing his beloved dog to the memorial. So, the kind ladies immediately booked me the next day with a groomer coming in early to assist. I was so grateful Secondly, the next day I received a call about a small nick that wasn't even bleeding that had occurred in a spot I probably would never have even looked at if not told, on one of my dogs. They explained the issue clearly, offered to take the dog to the vet and pay for it. I asked if there was anything they could do there as it appeared to not be serious enough to warrant a trip to the vet, so they put an antibiotic gel and spray on the affected area. They then sent home the products used and did not charge us for the grooming. In addition, they stated that if we had to take the dog to the vet subsequently as a result of this nick they would pay for all expenses. I felt that at all junctures the groomers at this Petco handled this incident professionally and with care of my pets. Thank you. read more

The grooming department at the Stanwood Petco has been a huge disappointment. Our 12 year old dog has always gotten her grooms at a Petco, first in Mt. Vernon and then in Smokey Point, always with no issues. We live in Stanwood and so when one opened up here we were happy not to have to drive out of town. Two out of the last three times we have gone to the Stanwood Petco they have cut our dog and she bled. Both times they have had to get her checked out at a vet. In all of our other grooms over the last 12 years our dog has never been cut. Our dog is very gentle and has no problem getting a groom. The groomers seem to not take the proper care to ensure my dog's safety. We will not be using them again. I cannot recommend the grooming salon at the Stanwood Petco. read more

I wouldn't even give Petco one star. We scheduled 2 hour appointment. When dropping our dog off we were told it could take up to 4 hours, they would call. No call ever happened, 6 hours later we to pick up our dog, she wasn't ready. 30 minutes later we left with our dog. Wasn't desheded, nails not cut. Our dog was wet didn't look clean. WOW! What a mismanaged business and a major stressful situation for our dog....DONT GO THERE!!!!!!! read more

I'm giving 3 stars not so much for the store itself, but for the new policy on products containing by products. I can appreciate Petco striving to meet or exceed standards in pet care, but not carrying certain lines of food, especially cost effective lines, alienates you from a major customer base. The community in which this particular Petco serves Had a population surge of 1.91% between 2015 & 2016, but had the median household income of the area DECREASE by 6.45%. It has a grocery store directly next to and across the street, as well as a feed store chain one street over. If myself, who spends $50 for 30lbs of Purina Proplan is getting turned away, I can't imagine the people who used to come there for $6 Kitten Chow and $1 Fancy Feast are going to fair any better. When I left the store today the Manager was very kind to explain alternatives to the food I was feeding my pets, but all I took out of that was I should find an alternative store to shop. We have 5 dogs, 3 cats, 2 Birds and a 75 gallon aquarium as well as our frequent donation purchases made at this Petco for our local animal shelter. It stinks that they can't offer MANY options to feed pets so that everyone has an opportunity to feed their pet regardless of their financial situation. Are we really saving lives by omitting by products if it makes it harder for people to feed pets at all? read more

Been taking our dog to mount vetnon petco for 5 years. Had issue once saying they couldn't do his nails. Moved to stanwood and was impressed how fast we were able to get appointment. Usually its 3 or more weeks in mount vernon not next day. Kinda see why now. Dropped him off. After 4 hours we go to pick him up. I see him sitting on the table by himself. Asked someone to ask how much longer. Was to 20 minutes. Went to groc outlet came back and he looked awful. Fluffy paws half chopped hair looked like a kid cutting their own bangs. Was told he was not calm enough and she couldn't finish him. No charge at least. Would have been nice to know hours ago. Unsure why it takes 5 hours to figure out u can't do it. She said she was worried he was hurting himself or going to hurt himself if she continued. 24 hours later he's been puking 3 times a day. Cant figure out why. Nothing new to his diet. If he hurt himself there I hope they would explain more. Unsure if something bad happened like he jumped off table and choked of if its just coincidence. read more

We had a bad experience at this location and it made me mad enough to feel like I needed to leave a review. I looked up the store hours before we stopped by. When we got there, we should have had an hour to shop. We were there to buy a leopard gecko for my sons birthday. We went to the reptile department and were waiting for the sales person. We decided to pick out all the tank gear we need to go along with our new pet. I finally decided to go look for someone to help us. When I got to the front of the store, a girl was locking the doors. I told her that we needed someone to help us with our gecko. At this point, we had been in the store for about 25 minutes. She very bluntly told me that they were closed. I told her that we had been here waiting for service for about a half hour. She refused to help us and said that they couldn't box up any animals after they closed. This conversation went on and on with me telling her that their bad service wasn't my fault and her telling me that they just didn't see us. I told her that I would like to speak to the manager. She informed me that she was the manager! I thought that managers cared about keeping customers. We had over one hundred dollars worth of merchandise we planned on getting. Short story long, this is not the way you keep business, nor treat customers. I'm not sure how Petco's sales numbers are looking this year, but I can't imagine this manager is helping Mt. Vernon's numbers with customer service like this! I will make sure to NEVER frequent this store again. read more

We had a good experience at Petco today. I asked the gal who groomed our dog and she said her name was "Wolf" (not sure if I heard correctly). Our sweet pup had a bad experience grooming and is filled with anxiety just walking in to a pet store - or should I say carried in because that is the only way you will get her in there. We have resorted to bad haircuts at home, but still need help with sanitary trim and nails. Wolf was gentle and kind and even touched up some areas that we were not able to get. She was gentle and patient and our pup behaved well for her which is not usually the case anymore. Thank you Wolf! (And my apologies if I have your name wrong.) read more
