I started taking my 11 year old dog to Lea Costanzo for grooming. After about a year or more of her grooming my dog, the vet thought she might have a heart murmur. My dog needed testing. I told Lea about it and she told me to get a note from my doctor to approve my grooming appt. I was on my way to the vet to get the note and Lea called and canceled my appt. And told me not to come back. This petco company does not care about you dogs. They will drop you like a rock in your hour of need! Go somewhere else. read more

Not taking my business here. Outlandishly expensive. I've had my dogs groomed here for years and over the last decade they have actually doubled the price for grooming - no joke, double. Will find a reputable local groomer for this. Secondly, I forgot a dog leash and his food when I dropped him at his grandparents- so I asked if I could pay for one of the grooming cheapo leashes (they give you when they are done being groomed). They say no. all the leashes are literally $50- so they say go to clearance section- no leashes there. No food on sale either. Ended up spending $70(!)- and considering I walked there, asked for a bag for the food and leash- nope, have to pay for one of those too. Way to lose a long time customer - shopping small read more

I made an appointment for grooming my dog last week. They told me to bring a copy of her rabies shot to the appt. I did that, but my vet/ pet hospital, has a form which has a handwritten account of date and cost for each procedure. She told me that wasn't acceptable. I have been going to this vet for at least 5 years. This is the only verification they give. She tried calling the office but there was no answer. She asked her boss if it could be used. "No" the manager said. The end. I will NOT reschedule. I spent a lot of time and effort already. I'll go back to my former groomer. read more

My dog was injured, and the General Manager Lied! Petco Grooming in Strongsville, Ohio. I noticed hours after grooming service that our dog had blood where she was sitting. I checked under her tail and there was a slash and clipper mark under the slash her vagina was red and a little swollen. I called Petco and asked the groomer, Leah, if there was something that they would recommend I put on her vagina, because it looks irritating, and noted the cuts at the base of her tail, and top of her anus by her vagina. The Groomer sincerely apologized, told me to use Neosporin on the area, but if it got worse to take her to the vet, and "Petco will pay for it". We ended up taking Chloe to the vet, they explained that the clippers were hot, and burned her as well as cut her. This led her to lick herself which also irritated the area, and she could either have a UTI or Vaginitis stemming from the injury. We had to put her on antibiotics. I contacted the GM at the Strongsville Petco, Matt, who told us that Petco will not be reimbursing the vet visit. Matt stated that he had spoken to the vet and understood that the injury was not 100% Petco's fault, and could have been due to a preexisting condition. I called Matt back, and he explained the same thing, and noted that because hair was removed from the vagina, she could started to lick the area and given herself a UTI. I noted that when I dropped Chloe off, her Vagina was normal, and after I had picked her up, it was red and swollen. Matt doubled down stating that to reimburse me, he had to submit a claim, and this would not be covered unless the vet stated that Petco 100% was at fault. I told him the vet had in fact told us this was due to clipper burn, and the cuts from the groom. He told me he did not know who he had spoken to at the Vet, but I could call them back and ask them to speak to him again. I called the Vet, who confirmed "NO ONE FROM PETCO HAS CALLED US!". I asked if they were sure, and they replied "Yes!". Legally we are not allowed to disclose patient information without your consent, all of our employees follow the same process. If Petco would have called and requested to discuss information, we would have called you to ask for permission to disclose the information with Petco. No one has called us to inquire about your dog. The vet confirmed also, if they would have called, "I would have explained to them that this was from the clippers being to hot more than likely burned her vagina skin, and licking her injury made it worse." The Vet called Matt after I got off of the phone with them, and Matt called again and stated that the vet told him it was not 100% unequivocally Petco's fault, so he would need to consult his Regional Manager to see if there is anything they can do. Not only did thy injure my dog, but the GM is lying to us as well. 100% Unethical- They had no issue charging us money, but when if comes to addressing injuries that they have caused, they are not so quick to resolve. read more

This Petco store may have an assortment of food, treats, and toys for all different kinds of animals. But I am leaving this poor review because of their treatment towards their animals, especially chinchillas, in their store. These poor animals do not have the correct environment within the store. They are huddled in the back of their enclosure as far from the public as they can get, with very little hiding space, nothing to climb on or get away from the active environment as they are kept in an enclosure in the middle of the isle. According to RSPCA and other sites and articles chinchillas enclosure should be up to these standards... Housing Your chinchillas' home needs: To be large and secure - such as a secure room or large metal mesh cage, with mesh floors as well as alternative flooring such as solid wood. Chinchillas can damage their feet when spending long periods standing on wire mesh. Exercise space - chinchillas are very active and agile and need lots of exercise space. Make sure they have plenty of horizontal and vertical space to run and jump. Branches and solid platforms at different levels to rest and jump on. Make sure there are no uninterrupted heights greater than 60cm to stop them from hurting themselves. Toys - chinchillas like gnawing and chewing, so give them wooden, rope, cardboard and pumice toys to chew. Avoid plastic toys. A dust bath - give your chinchillas a shallow tray filled with clean fine sand or 'chinchilla dust' to bathe in every day - this keeps their fur in good condition. Remove or sieve clean after use to stop it from getting soiled. Nest boxes and hiding places - give your chinchillas constant access to hay-filled nest boxes to rest and sleep in. Provide hiding places so they can get some time to themselves or escape if they're feeling scared. Bedding - chinchillas need enough bedding to keep warm, and it should be safe if they eat it, such as good quality, dust-free hay. Very friendly and helpful staff every time I come here. The associates always take time to answer my questions when I have them, and since this is a new hobby I have a lot. I have been here a few times and everytime I had to wait or try to flag down employees for help. First time I needed to check out and was standing in the empty checkout line waiting a long time for an employee to ring me up. Second time came in with my family and needed to buy a fish to add to my large tank at home with only one fish. Tried to ask an employee for help and they said they would send someone over but totally ignored my request and kept on doing whatever they were doing.. My mother had to talk to the manager to finally get someone to come over and help us. Workers in the aquarium department are clueless about fish care. Worker told my mom that introducing new fish you can just dump them into the new DIFFERENT TEMPERATURE tank with the dirty tankwater from their store that most likely has bacteria from dead rotting fish! Any person who knows anything about fish should know you can't do that and you have to let the fish in the original bag of water float in the new tank for a bit to get used to the water and not be shocked! While I was waiting on the help I walked around the aquatics area and saw there were 3 DEAD betta fish in the tiny cups of death sitting out on the shelves for customers to see.. Some people may not think that's a big deal but to me personally IT IS. Fish are just as well as dogs or cats and they are LIVING creatures. Most of the cups has disgusting murky water and lethargic fish that are either dying or dead like the ones I saw. If you have time to ignore customers you should have time to take better care of the living creatures you sell! Also lots of reptiles housed together in tiny enclosure where they are nearly on top of one another. Over 8 baby Iguanas stuffed in a tiny enclosure that they have no room for there tails and literally have to sit on top of each other. Just Horrible. read more

I brought my dog in for bath, grooming and $26 Christmas package. To begin, I had to wait 15 minutes before being helped...I should have left at this point. The "groomer" recommended shaving my dog, I should NEVER have agreed to this, as he was left with an ear that keeps bleeding, his genitalia is swollen and he keeps licking himself, I am certain due to irritation. When I picked him up, I had to wait a lengthy time again before being assisted. I took him home only to find his injuries. I cannot express my concern over how poorly my pet was groomed. For the addl charge, he was to have his teeth cleaned, which I do not believe they were, he was to receive a bandana, he did not, he was to receive a special conditioning shampoo, I do not believe that he did. read more

We have a large breed dog, took him in for bath and groom ...1pm drop off ..,waited all day to hear back from them for pick up; 5pm rolls around and still nothing. I walked in the store, and she looks at me and says, "I need at least another hour and a half with him" ---Seriously? What dog takes over 5 hours a to bath and groom? This isn't Clifford the Big Red Dog! End of story: the bathed him, he went home damp, and NO GROOM! Find somewhere else to go is my suggestion. She is professional, compassionate and goes out of her way to calm a nervous Fur Mom. I adopted my cat from here and I regularly buy products for my pets fish and the cat. Staff is really nice, knowledgeable and helpful. I am very pleased with this store. Their fish are always in clean tanks, look very healthy and never seen a dead one like I usually see in many pet stores unfortunately. The other animals, birds, ferrets, rodents, reptiles look great and healthy as well. My cat is doing great, never been sick, very well trained and sweet. I observed with how much love the person responsible for the cats was taking care of them. Some products are pricey but there is variety and sales all the time. I went to buy a leash and I found one marked for clearance. It was normally twenty and it was clearances for ten. I took my leash to checkout and it scanned for normal price. I asked the girl to see if someone could check since it was clearly marked. She got the store manager and he peeled the sticker off in front of me and tossed it on the counter saying it's not on sale. I said that it was marked and he just pulled the sticker off. If it wasn't supposed to be on sale he should not have it marked and that that was false advertising. He said it wasn't on sale and that was that. He was incredibly rude to me as if I was the one trying to rip HIM off. I understand that it shouldn't t have been on sale but if you made a mistake in pricing that isn't my fault and you don't have to treat me like I'm stealing from you. A friend and I walked into PetCo to quickly grab a bag of dog food, not knowing it was almost closing time. As we waked in a woman with short grey hair and glasses was standing at the entrance. She was very rude when she said "we're closing in a few minutes." My friend and I apologized, the woman then said "well is it going to be quick? Because we're closing." My friend stated we were there for a bag of dog food, we knew the brand already. The woman repeated that they were closing and stood in our way of entering, she had a very rude tone and told us to leave. We apologized, thanked her and walked away. I was in shock about how rude she was and what poor customer service that was. If she had a kinder tone I would not have had a problem at all, but she was so rude it really irked me.
