Had appt 2pm they text me at 1:50pm saying it's been rescheduled. They said they left me a voicemail which I received while standing in their store after the clerk told me they cancelled my appt. Someone named Mildred told us that he has a "very weird name, but okay" in a rather rude and snarky tone....I had some things I would've said if my 7 yr old daughter who named him hadn't been listening! The store part is great and the cashiers are friendly. That's what gets them the second star. The grooming salon is why I'm giving such a poor rating. I called ahead to schedule my dog's appointment and asked specifically about the de-shed treatment ($30 for large dogs) and nail trim ($10). My father-in-law pays $40 when he takes his lab and this is what he gets. The girl on the phone confirms I can do that package and schedules my dog. I take her and they're friendly. The girl asks if we also want them to go ahead and brush her teeth, we say yes. No price is mentioned. I go to pick my dog up and it is $73. A $40 bath, $$20 de-shed treatment, and $13 breath refresh. I question the girl about the cost of the bath + de-shed and explain that on the phone I was told it would be $40. She said they cannot do a de-shed without the bath...the description of the de-shed includes shampooing, drying, and bushing. I explained that to her and she said that's the way it is. Well alrighty then, I won't be back. There is a small, locally-operated business in Remington (Purple Poodle Pet Salon) that charges $60 for everything and I will be using their services from now on. I prefer to support local business anyway, but with what I thought was a $20 price difference I went with what I thought was the cheaper option given the expense of the holidays - I will not make that mistake again. & I didn't even mention the cost of the breath refresh because I should've known they'd offer something without mentioning price. That's on me for not asking how much it cost. If you use them for the convenience of being in town, just know their prices and online options are not as they seem! read more

One of my dogs just got a hair cut and no bath ( got charged for a bath and cut ) had to give him a bath at home . My other dog had major cuts on his body .the nails weren't even cut. Really like this place. Employees are helpful and courteous. This location is very clean and well stocked. When I brought my oversized puppy Guinness ( Bernese Mount dog) one of the most nicest employees who was helping carried my pup around. Ever since then, 6 months later, Guinness is always great with hugs. Grooming staff is great, Guinness comes out looking fantastic and the best part he's happy to go back- that's a huge indicator of how he was treated. I come here randomly to get my dogs nails trimmed and buffed. They are very reasonably priced and they're very friendly. My dog is a rescue dog and has anxiety around humans but loves other dogs. The team there always makes her feel comfortable. They don't just take her back do their thing and return her to me, but they greet her, give her a belly rub, let her smell them and know she's okay. First, I want to say that the store part of Petco has always been great and the girls at the register and the other personnel on the floor have always been so loving and kind toward my dog and have treated me well. However, the grooming salon is another story. I had a bath and haircut appointment for my dog today. When I arrived (on time), I was told by the groomers that since I had booked my appt. online, my appt. would take longer than if I had booked it over the phone. I explained that I had not booked my appt. online, that I had spoken to an employee over the phone to book my appt. The groomers looked at me and asked me who I had spoken with when I booked my appt. I told them I didn't know her name, and they gave me cold stares as if the miscommunication had been my fault, or as if they didn't believe me. I was then told by one of the groomers (the one scheduled to groom my dog) that today was her busiest day, and she indicated that she was overwhelmed to have discovered earlier in the day that my dog was on her schedule for today, as if blaming me for having scheduled an appt. with her for today! To my knowledge, my dog has never needed special attention or care which might cause him to be higher maintenance than most dogs, and even if he did, it was unprofessional for her to say that. I went over to speak to the manager to get clarification on how long my appt. would take today and to let her know about the miscommunication about how I had booked my appt. The manager walked over to the grooming salon with me and spoke to the groomers to try to get clarification for me. I was told that by this time, the groomer I was scheduled with had started grooming another dog, which I realized would delay my appt. even further. Also, my dog was very nervous by the commotion and confusion and I could see that he didn't want to go near the groomer. After today's experience, I will not return to this grooming salon. read more

I often go to this Petco, even though the one in Manassas is technically closer. This one is just easier to get to, being just off of 29 in a nice shopping center. The main reason I go here over Petsmart is because Petco is one of the few places that carries Wellness Core cat food, which my cat needs as part of his special elderly diet. Overall Petco is similar to Petsmart in general, this one has a nice, friendly staff and is well organized, but sometimes feels a little cramped. read more

We brought our newly SPCA-adopted dog to Petco to stock up on treats, a leash, etc and the employees could not have possibly been more helpful and friendly. They took time to answer our questions and offered suggestions for feeding our very thin (formerly a stray) dog. Chris thrilled our daughters by giving us a couple sample packets to take home, coupons, and the staff provided a congratulatory gift bag of random snacks. Our daughters are so thrilled that their new dog was given so much attention. They also helped one of our daughters find the exact cat treats she was looking for but could not locate. I'll just drive to Gainesville for PetSmart in the future. The selection is just ok. We purchased two fish recently. Approximately two days after our purchase, the fish died. I called the store, and asked if I could bring them back for a refund. The woman who answered the phone told me that I could return them with a receipt, and with the dead fish. She also told me to bring a sample of the tank water with me. Now, being new at the whole fish thing, I didn't know that I should have brought a separate sample of water, and she did NOT tell me to do so. When I arrived, with the fish in the water, she refused to give me a refund, because the fish was in the water. It had been appx 10 minutes since I made the phone call, and I know good & well the details of or conversation. She argued with me, telling me that she did tell me to bring the water, etc. Her manager stood by her story. I get backing up your people & all----but, they lost a customer in the process. read more

This Petco is very clean/organized and it is not smelly. Seems the animals and products are well taken care of. I have not had to stand in a long line. I have had great customer service experiences as well. When we bought out Leopard Gecko we had a very good coach. Her name was Kelsea..I may be spelling her name wrong but she was so very nice and helpful. So full of information. We took up a lot of her time with questions and she was just a joy to talk too. Our Gecko, Ariel, is so healthy looking and seems to completely enjoy her environment thanks to all the good advice from this Petco employee who obviously cares. Good store. Good staff. read more

To start, we've generally had good service (including training one dog here and getting grooming). Our complaint is with their animals. We bought a bird here (conure) and a week later, it was dead in its cage. We were heartbroken. Even with such a short time, wed taught it to bob its head on command, come on command and even show its wings on command. We spent at least 2 hours a day with the bird, had it on a high quality diet, changed its water and bedding daily, had only bird-safe toys in its cage and only used bird safe cleaners (listed as such and bought from this store) on his cage. We didn't even use aerosol (at all) in the upstairs area while we had him (which the clerk accused us of). Our pots and pans (another common killer) are stainless, not non-stick. The house is kept a steady temperature (70-75) and he was out of direct sunlight. When we brought him back, we were accused of killing him with aerosols. We got our money back but were told they were doing an autopsy and we were never allowed to purchase birds from Petco again. The clerk claimed he had hand fed this bird for 4 months (it was 3 1/2 months old - from Florida according to the vet certificate) and then walked away and refused to talk to us anymore. Nowhere in Petco policy is any of this written...and our vet said it was a lie that they would do an autopsy because "a basic autopsy, without toxicology or disease testing runs $400+." When we told the vet he had been more affectionate the last 2 days we had him (which we thought was him getting comfortable with us) and sluggish the afternoon he died with no change in vocalizations, no wheezy/hard breathing and no coughing, our vet said "that's not respiratory - that's disease/illness and they don't want to be liable if you get sick..." read more

If I could leave no stars I would. They SHAVED my Papillion's BEAUTIFUL fringed ears and it will take months and months to grow back to normal. I am not happy I told them specifically to not touch her with clippers or scissors, she looks horrible. Do not bring your dog here, at least if your looking to keep them to a breed standard. My dogs and I have had wonderful, patient treatment each and every time I go, be it for complete grooming for my little Papillion's or just a nail clip for my GSD. The only reason they get a star is because I know some of the people that work there and they have good hearts and work hard. Otherwise, Petco is HORRIBLE. This branch is pretty bad though maybe not the worst. Do NOT use the grooming services (Look up Gaila's Grooming instead) and don't buy the small animals. This is a service/staff review. This is the third time within two months I've been here and not been able to get a glimmer of service for just needing feeder fish. Today was the last straw. The last two visits have been bad enough with the staff not being available to help in a timely fashion. I had to walk the store to find chatting staff in a distant area. Today there were 4 visible employees. One was vaping outside, the other just inside talking with another employee and after going to the fish area, a male staff member came up to ask what I needed and after I told him just 30 feeder fish, he walked away, came back and said he was unable to do that, couldn't get them out of the tank,asked the manager to help-one of the ones up front- but she was still at lunch and had not clocked in. It was time to leave with no fish and no intention of ever coming back and on the way out, one of the chatting employees made a snotty remark about me not having a good day.
