"Put the candle back" or the hidden door

I LOVE THIS STORE! If you're looking for an eclectic furniture piece, brother you've arrived. Peter Andrews is known for hand painted, unique furniture pieces. I bought over the years, two of my favorite items: A hidden bar! Yep, the piece stands about 5 feet. When you push the door, it swings out to revel shelves where I stack my alcohols. I mean, you could also hide porn in this thing but heck, thats just gross. It also has doors on each side where I keep all my different bar glasses. My wife just sees the pleasing pattern, I know its where I keep the scotch. At my front door I have, I dunno, a front door table? It's small enough where we keep a plant and the mail. It has a small drawer where some kookie stuff lives like a screw driver, a flashlight and a pair of kids spiderman gloves. And of course, this piece is also hand painted. If you're looking to have something cool in your pad that no one else has, then you must browse at Peter Andrews.

Let's count how many times I have been to Peter Andrew's and at least bought one item. It's just too many times, and it's always an enjoyable journey down the aisles looking at all the unique items.

If you're loaded, this place is probably an instant 5-star experience. If you're not, you need to dig around for some cool, reasonably priced items for your home. Take the couches / furniture, there's some good looking items, but you can find identical items elsewhere for close to half the price. Some of this stuff is vintage-y, so it might be hard to find them elsewhere, in which case you might justify paying double, but for the most part it's not worth it. As for the little quirky items for your home, this is also hit or miss. There was a fake lil pig for $25, OK. Next to it, a fake little dog for $125. Wtf?! This is what you're dealing with. Kudos to them bc I did find a cool soup bowl with a handle (yea, I chug, what's it to you?) for under $4. Win. Come here to find some fun stuff for the home and to think about the day you might become rich enough to pay 1k for a cloth headboard.

Between their Huntington store and Farmindale store I shop there about twice a month, even if I'm just checking out the new merchandise.

However, I went in the other day and found a lampshade on a shelf that I liked that happened to not be priced. As a person that regularly frequents thrift and antique stores, I understand that if it's not priced then it's either not for sale or someone ripped the price tag off and thus, it's not for sale at this time. I went up to the counter where THE OWNER was sitting and I basically said "I understand if you can't sell this to me since it's not priced but I am interested!" The owner responded rudely and said that the reason it's not priced is because I took it off the base of the lamp where the price is. I said "Oh, I didn't take it off the lamp, it was by itself on the shelf." She huffed and rudely said, "Yes you did... I should know, it's my store!!!!" At that point, it wasn't worth fighting for so I turned around and put it back where I found it (on a shelf with 5+ other solo lampshades). On my way out, she tried to THEN haggle me and offered me $10 for the lampshade and then offered unsolicited advice that I should really bring in the lamp if I'm looking for a lampshade. I said no thank you and left. I don't need to be lectured and accused of something at an antique store filled to the BRIM with items. Antiquing is supposed to be a fun way to find old treasures and functional items for your home.

I usually end up buying gifts, seasonal decorations, or little treats for myself like tea, antique trinkets, and candles. I find it hard to describe how the place is organized, but essentially every little alcove in the store represents a particular local craftsperson or entrepreneur. Some of my favorites include... * "Ma belle maison," which is a collection of interesting, reasonably priced antiques and decorations (some sourced directly from southwest France). I found a really cool antique pen tray and some North American duck stamped cards that I have framed above my desk. * "Backstory home" has the best seasonal candles I've ever found! The pumpkin bread candle actually smells like the real thing, and isn't too sweet or overpowering. I also bought their Taylor swift inspired candles for my cousin and she loved them! * Not sure if it's "Harbor cheese and provisions" or "Tono's Tabletop," but there is a fridge stocked with charcuterie, cheese, and nonalcoholic drinks that I've bought for picnics in springtime! Nest also has craft workshops that you can sign up for, and pop up shops that rotate pretty frequently. The clipper ship tea company is currently there, with a unique selection of loose leaf tea blends to choose from- like pumpkin chai! All in all, I love coming to nest. There is something for everyone!

I practically never leave empty handed, and they truly have something for everyone. The owners are also such kind souls, and can always help you find whatever you are looking for. They also do a really nice job wrapping gifts at the front desk. When you walk in, it feels as though you've stepped into a fairy land. Tiny glittering objects and trinkets adorn every inch of space, appealing to new age crystal collectors, modern hippies, beach-combing coastal dwellers, cottage core kids, and everyone in between! On the main floor they have most of their crystals and gemstone jewelry, from many different vendors and suppliers. In the little alcoves right near the front door they stock palo santo, cedar, and sage bundles, as well as my absolute favorite fragrances and candles from L'apothecaire. In the next room to the right they have a variety of leather goods like wallets and purses, greeting cards, and some clothing. Upstairs they sell all different types of incense, incense burners, tarot cards, essential oils, even more gems, and candles (including voluspa that are significantly cheaper than you can find online). And I'm just barely scratching the surface of what you can find here. Without a doubt, Heartichoke is a treasure trove that you can easily get lost in.
