I don't intend to sound like a cheap ad on tv, although it may come off as such but I have been so pleased with the results. When you first arrive he or his assistant helps you pick out the outfits that will look best on you under the lights. Then you get your make-up done by Frank. I was a little nervous about having my make up done by someone else because I'm really picky about what looks good on me; But Frank is a pro, he knows what he is doing, and after three times going to Peter I am more than comfortable just letting them do what they do. Whether you are a seasoned Photogenic, or you are terrified of the thought of even having your picture taken, I can bet you will be shocked by the incredible and interesting quality of your photos. I sometimes get anxious when I have to meet new people. Compound that fear of new people with anxiety of depending on them and trusting myself to communicate in a situation where we are together creating one of a performer's calling cards (the headshot) and you have a recipe for stomach tumult. I had corresponded with and or met NY photographers in pursuing new headshots and that, what the english call, I-don't-know-what hadn't occurred yet. Peter Hurley is the BEST! He's a photography master. I've done two headshot sessions and one group photo shoot. He captures your personality in photos and knows how to make the shots interesting and reflective of your individual character. Even in group shots, each person stands out in their own way thanks to Peter's suggestions and guidance. Peter is extremely personable and made me feel like we were old friends the first time I met him. The atmosphere in his studio feels fun, cool and casual while the shots come out professional, unique and just all-around amazing. One of the best parts of the session is that Peter gives constant feedback and takes time to show you your photos throughout the session so you know which poses look best/what faces you should stop making/whether you should change into a different color (clothing changes are encouraged). He'll teach you how to "squinch," which makes you look way cooler than you are (or maybe that's just me) and looks fantastic in the photos. I have had my headshot done by Peter and it was the ONLY time I have had my picture taken where the photographer didn't just rely on just having fancy cameras and lights to get the picture and instead focused on coaching me and working with me to make me look the best I could. Any photographer can photograph beautiful people and make them look good but Peter took the time to show me some of the tricks to strengthen my jawline and work on my expressions so that even average looking folks like me can look like they have just a bit more mojo going on. This is the difference between Peter's work and all the other stuff out there - he's taking the time and paying attention to every detail so that you look polished, confident, friendly, and very professional. What I found is that the cheaper $150 Craiglist folks don't do any of this and are more or less snapping away without really coaching you to look your best. Peter Hurley is likely the most talented and personable photographer I've ever met. His style is being copied but unless the photographer has been trained by him, they always leave something out. I see a negative review above that has the top of the head chopped off and its sort of on a white background but I can assure you that it's not a Peter Hurley headshot. If she paid that exorbitant sum, then why, oh why isn't she showing off the artwork she got, rather than that from some hack? I doubt very seriously that she has ever shot with him, or the picture would be all over the place. Yes, Stephanie M from Manhattan, I mean you. Look, I shot with him in October 2016 and honestly, I had no idea what he'd do with a head this size and a face that looks like mine. I was getting new head shots for the first time in three years, and I was a little panicked. Peter set me right at ease, and was a blast to work with. Yes, he is charging top dollar, but I assure you it is worth it. I opted for the hour long session, which is designed for those of us who want a Peter Hurley head shot, but can't afford the full length session. It was plenty of time! Peter took hundreds of shots, then we sat and whittled them down to 76 pictures for me to choose from before I left. I was able to get several looks out of it, and I feel like I've gotten the best photos that have ever been taken of me. I met Peter Hurley at the Photokina in Germany. For three days I watched him taking photos of everbody who bought his book. It was amazing to observe him having shy people in front of his camera and how he broke the ice within 3 minutes. A few minutes later you saw happy faces of the folks who got the best shot ever taken of them. Amazing! The clientel was not "the chic and beautiful young ones" - they were just normal people. I'll admit it. I hate having my picture taken, and I HATE looking at pictures of myself. However, with Peter I did NOT hate having my picture taken, and looking through the photos I am AMAZED at how much I love them.
