It was absolutely outstanding! Every ingredient felt incredibly fresh and vibrant. The rich flavors of the grilled tempeh and the perfect tang of the sauerkraut paired beautifully with the hearty, fresh-baked rye. ​The service was also wonderful and incredibly thoughtful--they noticed we were sharing and kindly split the sandwich into two separate plates for us before bringing it out, which we truly appreciated. ​The only downside was the iced tea, which unfortunately tasted quite watered down and lacked flavor. This bakery Café is absolutely adorable! There is limited seating but both Saturday and Sunday morning we were able to find a spot by the window. I had two different vegan pastries and they were both absolutely delicious! The coffee was fantastic. Really good flavor. I get mine 3/4 or half sweet and it was perfect. We visited the Blue Scorcher to get outlet caffeine fix before traveling on. The honey latte was excellent and I enjoyed a matcha latte. The baked good offerings looked amazing. Since we had just eaten breakfast elsewhere we did not purchase any but wanted to. They also had a small menu offering breakfast and lunch, including vegan offerings. The interior was cute and quaint with bar seating along the front window and tables with chairs throughout. The service we received was great, friendly, and expedient. Made a quick stop in Astoria on our trip down the coast and found this cute spot! Folks working were awesome and helpful navigating the menu. The pastry case was full and loaded up with too many amazing pastries to pick from. There are a few two top tables outside that give you a peak at the water. Inside they've got lots of seating. I highly recommend the burritos! The yam one was delicious, packed with delicious healthy foods, and super filling. The cardamom orange morning bun was absolutely delightful. Im a heavy meat eater and lover, burgers, steaks, tenders, all that but this place was amazing. Service was great, they were kinda and patient and made sure they accompanied any substitutes or add ons, and the food was great. Cooked nicely and everything fresh, I ordered the Breakfast Sandwich, but asked for scrambled eggs instead of fried, and grilled onions instead of red onions, and they did not disappoint. Along with this I had it with the tempeh sausage, which was a vegetarian sausage which didn't necessarily taste like a sausage but added great flavor and depth to the food. Blue Scorcher was on my list for restaurants to try in Astoria and we made it here on our most recent visit. We stocked up on pastries to take home. That was a stone in which we didn't leave unturned. We got the Rosemary Cake, the Carrot Cake and a Cinnamon Roll... specifically I think it was called a Brown Butter Cinnamon Roll. Those snacks were really good! I especially liked the cakes... especially the Rosemary one as it was fairly unique and delightful. Carrot Cake I haven't had forever so returning to have some was a bonus also. We also had a meal here and I got the Breakfast Tacos. A nice, small little meal and one you aren't likely to get too full on, these tacos had egg and a really good salsa that gave it a great kick. Nice restaurant... The food was good, but the employees had somewhat of an exceptionalism attitude. At the time we didn't notice it, but we went in and ordered a couple cookies as we were just walking by and not from the area and we were curious about the café. Unfortunately, one of the cookies that was ordered, nothing was listed as having chocolate in it, and my wife has issues with chocolate. It is pretty well known that in the food service industry, chocolate and peanuts are one of those things that you should never mess with when it comes to people's intake. The lady I talked to on the phone a day later mentioned that it was vegan chocolate if it made a difference, and quite frankly, I can see where at some level that might make a difference for the dairy, but in the bigger picture, it doesn't make a bit of difference as it is chocolate that is an issue not the dairy. The bottom line is it should've had a label on the shelf tag and it did not. In our opinion, it should even have a listing of the type of chocolate (dark, lite, etc ). As that could have been a hospitalizations worse. Then, at the end of the conversation, the person I talking to was dismissive and just wanted to move on -- clearly not somebody that should be answering the phones if she's not gonna fully listen (even though she said she did) to the very valid concern. She said that there's a recipe book that we could've asked about if we had any concerns. The concern was that there was no listing on the label of the cookie that was on the shelf. Something as simple as "contains chocolate" could have averted this whole situation. read more

We stopped in for a quick breakfast of pastries. The savory croissant was flakey with a delicious tomato paste and cheese. The cardamom roll was very good, heavy on the cardamom as it should be. The sour cream coffee cake had a super dry crumbly texture that made me think it had whole wheat or cornmeal but it was also good. We also got plain and cheese bagels to go for the next breakfast. The bagels were pretty good but still don't quite hit right as proper bagels, though the cheese was a nice touch. Very good breakfast choice! I don't usually go to vegetarian focused restaurants but my fiancé chose this one and WOW! She got the bean burrito and their homemade salsa was delicious. It is very popular so they sell out of items very early in the morning, at least on weekends, which is a bummer if you are not a person who wants to wake up at the crack of dawn on your day off. If you want a good selection, go early By 10 they have started selling out of many of their popular items. They offer so many delicious pastries and items but since they sell out of them so quickly I havent got to try very many. I wish they would just make a little more of each item. If you're a local, you probably love the Blue Scorcher. But I see a different atmosphere, attitude and decline in product quality. Back in the day, the service was great and their pastries top notch.....the croissants in particular were delicious and substantial. As with everything else, prices of supplies have gone thru the roof and it has certainly impacted this place. The pastries cost an arm & a leg AND they've shrunk in size. I didn't take a photo, but the size of the croissant I got the other day reminded me of a mini croissant rather than a full sized one. And it was $8.00? I can't remember...maybe $6. Regardless, too expensive for the size. I also feel like their bread has become tasteless. The texture is good, but the taste is very bland. As far as the service, it is as some have reviewed, not the most friendly, outgoing bunch of folks. It's one thing to be quiet, but quiet and unwelcoming doesn't fit well in the service industry, imho. Unfortunately I won't be taking my business to the Blue Scorcher anymore. Our third stop on this tour of Astoria was this eclectic, incredible coffee shop and bakery. The smell of coffee and pastries is quite peaceful. They make delicious cookies and brownies.
