I have a yearly ritual, I go to the farm stands and buy locally grown vegetables. But the final step is to turn my home into a warm welcoming space, so I'll buy flowers from Pantaleons Farms. Look for the signs, it's located across from the post office on the main road. Once you arrive, grab a wagon and start exploring. On my front porch I like to have a burst of autumn with red and gold flowers. Pantaleons farms also sells bundles of hay to give that farmhouse look but, I grew up in Brooklyn. My grandparents never did anything like did this and I know they would love the flowers. The hay would confuse them. I can hear my grandfathers voice asking about it and it makes me laugh. Billy, you don't plant, do you make a the bread? Now that the outside porch is ready, it's time to go inside with crafted table centerpieces and other potted flowers that are painted in warm autumn colors. It really gives the house that extra touch for Thanksgiving. Once Thanksgiving is over, I plant the flowers. They sell all sizes of plants and trees, its deceiving but out back has a large farm. Funny story, I wanted to buy some plants for the front of my house, I see these purple sprays that spread in a nice burst of color. I grab a wagon and this young couple buys almost all of the plants?? I grabbed the last four, they weren't my top choice.. The nice part about this farmstead is that you don't have to schlep too far out east to get there. This morning I just took William Floyd north to 25A and went east for a few miles. Not a bad ride at all. The people who worked there were very kind and attentive. I got the feeling that this is a mom and Pop Farm stand which is nice to see, but they have everything. It's definitely worth checking out if you're having your summer tomato or corn fix.

Their strawberries, string beans, Delicata squash, tomatoes and corn on the cob are my favorites The plant assortment is varied and huge. I love the welcome these gorgeous plant provide as I enter the stand. La Corte Farm Stand make the absolutely BEST PIES. The crust is the best I ever tasted. I also shop for their loaf cakes, cookies and crumb cakes. They sell boutique ice cream and a creamy mozzarella cheese. Yes, I'm hooked. Thank you, La Corte!

GPS got me there, and I walked into a space with tables on one side, and a very, very limited selection of produce. They did have giant tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and onions. So I bought some. I didn't look at the wine, as it was all far away on a wall, and not accessible. There are some jars of preserves. Tempting, but $11. Bit expensive. They also sell baked goods, mostly cookies and pies. Nothing was marked as "gluten-free," so I had to pass. Luckily, as fall is coming and I need to fit in my clothes. There are also some cute gift shop items, like mugs and shopping totes. And a small selection of pastas. They looked REALLY good, but definitely made from wheat. Sigh. There's gelato, which looked delicious, but alas I have some at home. I would have liked a larger selection of vegetables--I wanted lettuce, specifically--but a lovely young woman behind the counter explained that they had different things at different times, depending on supply. I forgot to ask about the wine, but perhaps I'll come back with a friend. Hopefully it's a local vineyard. This isn't my idea of a "farm stand," exactly, but it's a nice place. There is a large sign saying "La Corte" INSIDE the store. Not particularly helpful, lol, but at least I eventually figured out that I was in the right place.
