Haven't had one in a while that was sweet and juicy. Decided to go to Davis Peach Farm. They were. Small and sour.

Every year I go to Lewins for Apple picking and Harbes for pumpkin picking (both highly recommended), but this year we accidently scheduled apple picking for a day that Lewins was closed so we decided to go here. BIG mistake! During September and October I realize I can easily buy apples and pumpkins at the Shoprite located a half of a block away from my house, but what I really want is the EXPERIENCE of picking them with my family. It's something we look forward to each fall and always enjoy. Well, so much for "always". Today's trip to the Davis Peach farm was how I imagine a convicted felons first trip must be to Rikers Island. You are greeted at the gate by large signs that basically tell you that you are only allowed the clothes on your back and the loved ones you arrived with. For those that can't read, a large man will remind you of the rules and then make your wife put her tiny purse back in the truck. He did thank us for complying with the rules, but in a way that felt disingenuous. Next up is the half asleep/half annoyed bag handler that forces you to front ten dollars before you set foot in the field. Not that you don't get the ten bucks put towards your purchase, but it's another example of how this place is run. With more rules than Seinfelds Soup Nazi.... The fields are covered with broken branches, garbage, and yellow police caution tape. But since I had already paid the ten dollar minimum, I just made the best of it and filled our bags and got the hell out of there. To be fair, the fruit towards the back was nice and ripe. It's just that to get there you have to deal with all of the hostility and regulations first. But that's what I get for not hitting yelp before I went!!!! read more

This place is really crowded and parking is a nightmare. Most of the sections of peach trees are closed off and the ones that are available for picking aren't ripe enough. I did pick some good ones- overall the peaches aren't bad. It was a nice experience. Was charged 20$ for entrance which includes 10 pounds worth of peaches. On a recent visit to the farm - our experience was anything but peachy. Unorganized set up, misleading staff, and worst of all a salesperson who is contempuous, demeaning and outright rude. Why so complicated? Isn't the idea of "picking your own fruit", the freedom to pick what you prefer - depending on your taste? I've observed several unsuspecting visitors get overcharged for picking fruits that are not so ripe. At that point, they had no choice but to pay up - or the police will be called. Really? Over fruit picking? im sure the law enforcements has other pressing matters to attend to. After doing some research - this seems to be an ongoing scheme that they've been pulling for many years now. It's too bad that I too became a victim of this scenario and felt very helpless. If you want to spend your afternoon picking overpriced peaches and being threathened for the police to be called if you come back - this is the perfect place for you. Just dont stay too long - they've once called the police to report someone who they thought were picking for too long. read more

It was a mistake to go picking last September on a Tuesday. Lewin's is closed on Tuesdays. I'll remember that for next time, so we avoid ever going back to this place. I understand the need for a $10 deposit before you go in. But paying, and then being handed plastic bags balled up, doesn't add much to the picking experience. It was mid-September, but most of the place was roped off. We got two bags of apples and peaches, and about half of what we picked was no good after about two days. There were no signs, so we were yelled at after going a ways down a long path. It wasn't busy. Tell us when you see us. You couldn't miss three people walking down a large path passed the check out tent. If you do decide to withstand this place, pack a lot of patience and an open mind. When you check out, and your stash is worth over $10, make sure the unenthused hipster at the register takes the $10 off. I can't imagine how much extra they made with people who forgot. It was done purposely, I know how business works. It's too bad we had such a bad experience. My daughter, a few months old at the time, took nice pics in the orchard, but unfortunately I have to be forever reminded of what a bad idea it was every time I see them. read more

Ok place to come visit in Wading River. Fairly large you pick peach and plum orchard. You pay $10 per bag and they'll tell you which rows you can pick peaches from. You pick your peaches and proceed to checkout. It's $2 a pound which is not such a great price but you pay for the experience. Something different to do on a nice day. read more

I grew up near the original Davis Peach Farm location in Mount Sinai. As a child I always wanted to visit so a few summers ago after hiking I decided to stop at the newer location. I was very excited to finally go to Davis Peach Farm. I will never go back to Davis Peach Farm. I parked my car fairly easily and walked in. I was not greeted. In fact, I wasn't even acknowledged beyond being stared at by the male staff. Until I almost wandered down a not marked employee path. At that time I was screamed at by a woman. The male employees who had been watching then started laughing at me. I will never return. I know understand why we never went to the original location when I was a child. I left mortified with a crushed childhood dream. There are much better farms in the area where you can get great produce with friendly staff. I am not buying the people damage their produce excuse either because my experiences at other farms is so much better. read more

We didn't plan to go to Davis since I have already seemed quite a few negative reviews on this place... We have no choice but to give it a try when Lewis Farm was not yet ready for the peach picking. The workers at Davis were not friendly no smile nor greetings! When we entered the farm, we were asked to put down a $10 deposit. As we entered the farm, we had to walk all the way to the back, and there were only a few rows of peaches that were allowed to be picked from. And funny, when someone accidentally stepped over to the forbidden areas (other type of fruit trees), the workers quickly yelled at them by using their whistles. One star for the donut peaches that were delicious the last time we went. Otherwise I would have given them zero stars if that was possible. The peaches we bought were not freshly picked, the donut peaches were definitely frozen or from cold storage because they were mushy and disgusting. We bought $20 worth of peaches, and I hop that half are edible. The rude staff is a definite. I should have asked for my money back when, between my husband and I, we said thank you three times without a reply. We will definitely just go around the corner to Lewin Farms. Do they have the "assortment"? No... they don't have donut peaches. Otherwise, the peaches we picked there a few weeks ago were great. I'm not quite sure where to go with this review. Do I address the service I received? The quality of the produce? I'll do my best to balance the both. Upon arriving at David Peach Farm I had mixed emotions. A packed parking lot, no sign of organization and an "angry mob" waiting to park was the first thing that welcomed me to the farm. When looking to escape to the country from a long week of stress of anxiety that's the last thing one would want to face. After parking I was faced with a long time, a mouthy gentlemen "checking people in" and disorganization abound. The one thing I can't complain about is the peach farm itself. Once working our way though the chaos I was pleasantly surprised with the rows of peach trees. An abundant crop awaited with sweet, delicious peaches. Despite the headaches and hassles the purpose of the visit to Davis Peach Farm, peach picking, was accomplished with a produce I can't complain about. If you're looking for fun and games, Davis Peach Farm isn't for you. If you're looking for delicious peaches, you've found your spot. read more

A day well spent on a hot summer Saturday. Arrived in the early afternoon to pick peaches today. The most ripe ones are found all the way in the back so don't get discouraged. If they aren't ripe just put them in a brown paper bag and they'll ripen within a day or two... I ate 3 ripe ones as I was picking them. Get yourself one of those little carts so that you don't have to carry your heavy bag back to the cashier. Happy picking!!! read more

A group of 4 of us decided to go peach picking on a summer day to get out of NYC for a day and it was just as we imagined and even better. Not sure why there's so many bad reviews, but the staff was helpful and friendly, many of them didn't speak good English, but we didn't expect a 5star service on a farm! Come on! You pay $10 for a group and that goes towards your purchase. The peaches and nectarines we incredibly sweet and the rows you are assigned for picking have plenty of ripe fruit and some that is still hard, so you can save it for later and ripe it on the kitchen counter. Extra notes: they sell amazing corn on the cob, ready to eat for $3 + a little selection of affordable produce. Overall highly recommend as something to do for a family or group of friends. Second time there and never again! As we walked in with our own bags, since we didn't want to pick into the plastic bags they gave us last year a guy in the front asked us if this is what we will pick in and "okay-ed" them. We go to the stand on the side, pay the $10 and enter. As we are entering another guy YELLS out something and says that we "need to put those bags back in the car", we told him the guy in the front told us we can use them.....then he WHISTLES back at us LOUDLY and tells us we didn't pay. Uhmmmm hellloooo, did you not just see me walking away from the register? Well, maybe he didn't so I nicely told him I just paid. So he YELLS again "you forgot your bracelet"!! So unprofessional and nasty!!! I told him I didn't forget anything if it wasn't given to me, we go back and get the bracelet. No apologies and my peaches picking experience ruined before I even entered the orchard. That's not it though! The peaches were sweet but totally ripe on the trees, they were all basically dying on my kitchen table within a day in an air conditioned room. Wasted almost $40, never again! I should've known better and picked less or none at all and left after the experience in the front of the orchard. I've been to Lewin's next door (last Saturday their PYO peaches was closed) to pick other produce and had a nice experience, so if you're in the area when they are open GO THERE and stay away from this place that dictates you to pick ripe and almost rotting fruit and yells at their patrons. All I can compare this to, is a loud, nasty Dominican owned fruit stand where the owners don't ever want you to come back. I guess I'm the odd one out. They say no bags what's the big deal I didn't see one, had no problem leaving my bag in the car. I thought the guys where very nice and quite funny. When you treat people nicely they do the same to you. Me my husband and son went for peaches and they were very good I would agree get firm cause a bunch got smushed in bag but we were making a crumble anyway. Very fun day for the 3 of us :) read more

Stay away from here and go to Lewin Farms just down the road. We went out East yesterday to go peach picking and found this place to be disorganized and they were charging $1.50 per pound vs $1.00 per pound at Lewin Farms. They also wanted to charge us $10 BEFORE we even went into pick the peaches telling us that if we didn't have $10 worth when we left that they would NOT refund our money. When my sister inquired further about the amount of fruit available to be picked the kid said that there wasn't much left...basically if my sister hadn't asked the question we probably would have lost some or all of our $10. Do yourself a favor and go over to Lewin Farms (just down the road). It's FREE to walk in. They give you a bag to pick your peaches and there are plenty of big, beautiful juicy peaches to pick. When you are done picking the nice gentlemen weigh your bag and charge you only $1.00 per pound. read more

Some time ago, Davis changed to Haydens. So don't be surprised if you see Haydens Orchard instead of Davis. Not far away from Haydens is the Wildwood State Park. Haydens is your pick your own peach operation. It's very New York City even though it's located deep in Wading River, that is everybody is presumed a criminal until proven otherwise. So no bring your own bags or push your baby strollers, if you are kind of sort of environmental , don't, don't bring your own bags. The admission is like $20 which includes 8lbs of peaches. My Einstein friend does the math and It comes down to $2.5 per lb, I can never figure this out myself. Pay extra if your pick exceeds 8lbs. You can of course buy peaches at the entrance and there are sour cherries as well. They are packed in those square pint(?) basket but when you bought them they will have the baskets back and bag the fruit into their plastic bags. They reuse their baskets and give you plastic bags instead. So I guess it evens out on the recycle and reuse thingy. One thing worth mentioning is you can pay by credit card, which is not a surprise, what's surprising nowadays is they don't add 3.5% to the credit card charges like so many many other shops do because of the transitory inflation. I personally don't take it personal that they just assume you "steal" their fruits. If you don't you don't. Peach thieves can be very very damaging to the business after all. The peaches are OK, kind of too crunchy for my taste but that's just me or perhaps not ripe enough today. The staff are oK, the dudes selling corns are quite friendly, though at $3 a cob I didn't bite. It's not at all a bad experience. read more

NOT FAMILY FREINDLY I would give it 0 stars if I could. They would not allow us to come in with our infant food and diapers. They were very rude and barely spoke English. I spoke with a manager and he was the rude one. I think his name was fay. It's a hole of a place with grungy people that look like hoodlums. I wouldn't spend $1 here. Also filthy parking lot. Trash everywhere. and flies all over the fruit. All of the food was being handled improperly. Gross beware. Update. Lewins pick ur own peaches is pretty right next door just west. I went their today. Yelp reviewers reported thus closed and rightfully so. The employees are running the farm illegally and overcharging for fruit. There are no peaches. Cherry trees only rows 1 and 14 are open. Row 1 is sour. Row 14 has barely any trees. The con is they say give a deposit of $10. Because pick up to $10 and you will get it back. We picked $5.00 and they wouldn't give us the $5 balance back. We left the cherries despite picking win our kids in the heat. Do not go there They give farm hands and games a bad name. read more

I wouldn't even leave 1 star. I usually go to Lewis and am extremely happy but the peaches are not ready yet so we took a trip to Davis. I'm a local and had a bad experience with Davis last year but I have them the benefit of the doubt and once again Horrible horrible mistake. They make you leave a $10 deposit so that you pick at least 5 lbs.,(ok no problem) so as were waking we see these big ripe peaches as were picking them a worker starts yelling to get outta there and that these trees are closed and off limits. He pointed us where to go and they were trees with rotten fruit in the ground and little to nothing on the trees. That's why the they charge $10 so that you can pick up the left over shit and still make them a profit. All in all they wanna sell the u pick customers complete shit while they sell the good peaches to wholesale markets paying more. If you like eating fermented fruit and nasty Puerto Ricans yelling at you come to Davis. If you want a very friendly and family oriented experience come to Lewins. And Lewins allows you to pick ALL the ripe fruit that they have unlike Davis where your left with garbage. The workers not only yell at you constantly, but they also force you to purchase by charging $10 entrance fee. More than half of them also do not speak English so any questions asked are ignored with a mean stare. I give Davis Peach Farm, Wading Rivet NO stars but Yelp seems to require a 1 star minimum so here it is. I was told by several people not to go there. But we saw so many cars at Lewins, we went to Davis instead since their place had so many fewer cars...for a good reason !! Beginning with the "security" guard with the politically offensive tee shirt to the person who checked our paid bags of peaches to make sure we were are not stealing, this place is awful. They treat all customers like they are criminals. AND they have a rip off deposit that they keep if you don't pick enough peaches! No other place does this. After I stood in line and paid, another obnoxious security person grabbed my bag and ran over to the vulgar lady behind the counter to make sure I paid. He almost sprained my finger ripping the bag out of my hand. They did similar things to do many others. It is hard to believe they are still in business !!!! DO NOT GO TO DAVIS!!!!! From the start the staff was rude and there instruction was very unclear and later claimed they told us not to pick certain peaches..(and charged us for it with ridiculous price) wasn't peach picking it was hunting for it...with so much trees and only few, available for so much people to pick. This place is truly a disgrace. Completely dirty filthy piece of property and garbage everywhere. What is interesting is that they had a sign asking for donations on a go fund me site. I think if they put some time into making the experience better and picked up the garbage everywhere they wouldn't need help staying open. I would avoid this place. Your shoes come out filthy because you are stepping over peaches thrown on the ground . The grass is not kept through the trees so you are literally walking in a foot of grass trying to pick and you have to leave your pocketbook in the car which is pretty silly too. This is a pretty good place to go peach picking. I break down my recommendations into positives, negatives, and somewhat unavoidable negatives. Positives: You can go peach picking with your family and friends. It costs about $2 per pound of peaches. I would recommend picking hard (not yet ripe) peaches in order to avoid having them bruise while transporting them back home. If you pick soft peaches, then they often will bruise in the car while going home. The hard/unripened peaches will ripen at your house if placed on the counter and left there for approximately 2 days. Davis Peach Farm plants multiple varieties of peaches, nectarines, and even plums. He has about 15 varieties available to pick at any moment (usually), and often there are white peaches and white nectarines available as well. The varieties do have different qualities (taste, color, size, quantity of fuzz, sweetness, acidity, flesh clinging to the pit or easily separated, etc). Negatives: You can not bring any bag or purse into the field at all. They are afraid you will steal peaches in your bag or something. I hate this rule, but I deal with it (even though it stinks). I'm less certain about strollers (I think those are ok, I believe - but I would ask). It costs about $2 per pound of peaches, which is more expensive than buying peaches in some stores. However, you will make up for the higher cost by eating many many peaches in the field when no one is looking (the staff will tell you not to do that though - but everyone does it). They charge $10 in advance, and if you pick more than $10 in peaches then they subtract the $10 prepayment. However, if you pick less than $10 then you're out of luck (no refunds). The staff there can sometimes be unfriendly (they need friendlier staff). Unavoidable Negatives (on any farm you go to): It's very hot and buggy while picking (unavoidable - and not their fault). I recommend wearing pants to avoid bugs / ticks, wear bug spray to avoid bugs, wear closed-toe shoes to avoid bugs, wear a hat to avoid the heat, wear sunscreen to avoid sunburns, wear sunglasses to avoid squinting (it's bright), bring a handkerchief to wipe off sweat, and bring bottled water with you to drink in the field. At Davis Peach Farm, you will have to put the bottled water in your pocket, or hold the bottle, since they won't let you take a bag/purse into the field. At every farm you go to, there will likely be fruit on the floor that either fell off the tree/bush, was of inferior quality and was thrown on the floor after being picked, or a customer bit into it and then threw it on the floor. As a result, the fruit on the floor may create an odor (true at every peach farm you go to, and most apple farms), and it often attracts bugs. This is all also true at Davis Peach Farm, so go there expecting it. read more

This is NOT the Davis Peach Farm of yesteryear. Gross, dirty, overpriced. Sign out front had another name out front--NOT the iconic Davis name. Looks like the property was sold by the Davis family in 2016. Now the parking is a dust bowl nightmare, porta-potty in middle of parking lot garbage all over. So many other well kept farms and people who care about the land and the visitor experience. Take your $$ elsewhere. read more

I brought my nephews peach picking only to give a deposit of $10, and find out they only let you pick from two rows of trees. We walked out with only 3 peaches. The rest were picked by others or rotten. When checking out, the owner of the farm was so rude and wouldn't refund or money or let us use the difference to shop at heir farm stand. I will never come back here again and would never purchase their produce elsewhere. If you are considering coming here, don't. We went peach picking on Sept 12, 2014 with our family. Before coming out to Davis farm, I called to find out what the price of peaches were. The person told per the peaches were $2.00 per pound. Knowing how apple orchards operate I specifically asked if they sell them by the bag. They told me "no" and that they were $2.00 per pound. Upon arriving at the farm we noticed a family that had set up a picnic right there in the parking lot. They were sitting in the DIRT eating. Finding a parking spot wasn't hard. On the way to the spot all I could see was GARBAGE everywhere. Papers scattered everywhere. Broken down trucks etc. The place looked like a junkyard! And to top it off, we felt like we were in a third world country. We parked and went to go peach picking. The gentleman who was not so gentle told us that we had to leave a $20 deposit for 10 pounds of peaches. If we went over the 10lbs we would have to pay $2.00 per pound. I asked him what would happen if we didn't get 10lbs of peaches? He told me, "well I guess you lose you money." He was rude and abrasive. Then we were told that we couldn't bring our purses into the fields. We had to go back to our cars and put our purses in the car. This I wasn't a fan of at all. Especially that everyone there knows that everyone's purses are in the car. It makes it very tempting for people who don't actually like to obey the law if you get my drift. Upon checking out, we luckily only went over our 10 lbs by .$65. We were going to purchase the sangria mix and some other vegetables, but considering the treatment we received we decided against it. We will definitely NOT be returning to Davis' Peach Farm. It's unfortunate because the peaches are delicious! read more
