I want to love this place, but I can only like it. The food is too hit and miss for me to "not be…read moreable to wait" until my next visit. I'll eat here, but not as often as i would if they polished up their menu/execution.
The chicken dishes, all of them, are terrible. They advertise "tender chicken cut into slices," but if you look at any of the pics on here, it's all the same - tiny, little chicken bits, dry and overcooked.
The more obscure dishes are the way to go. They fail hard on the basics, but hit home runs on their more unheard of menu items. If you've never heard of something, but it sounds good - that's what you should order here.
Chicken lemon rice: 3/10
Not enough chicken, lemon tastes artificial and weird, soup is bland. I've had better CLR at most any coney island.
Chicken Gyro: 3/10
Chicken was dry, the orzo was dry and overcooked, tziki sauce was thick and lacked flavor. Plenty of chicken... I would have rather had less chicken, cooked better. I haven't seen their chicken kabob, but it seems like this place uses the thick part of their breast for the kabobs, and uses the scraps bits for all of their other dishes.
Grape Leaves: 7/10
Good flavor, good sauce... wish the CLR soup tasted as good as the sauce from the grape leaves.
Stifado: 9/10
Excellent dish. Good amount of beef, great flavor, nice stew. This is the dish that I would come back for.
Bread basket:
Bread: 4/10 - they serve the bread ice cold.
Olive oil: 9/10 - excellent flavor, super light, nice lemon zest
Service: 8.5/10 - good job.
They had one guy for all 8 or so tables, but did he did a good job covering them.
The busser/assistant did a good job at keeping our waters and bread full, but he tries to carry too much, and it causes a big distraction (glasses clunking, nearly falling over, re-stacking)... sometimes two trips is better than one... He also says "of course" (pet peeve) when someone says "thank you." Perhaps I'm weird, but I find that terribly dismissive, and off-putting.
