That's it - I'm never 'checking in' at Metro, Loblaws or Sobeys again. No Frills is SO good and SO cheap. I hadn't been in a while because this store is a little of of the way (not on the subway line). However, I was blown away by inexpensive my usual load of groceries was in comparison to what I've been spending elsewhere. If you're not picky about brand or like to shop around, they always have a bunch of different cereals, granola bars, yogourts, canned goods, etc on sale. Since it's owned by Loblaws, they also have the No Name yellow label products (already dirt cheap), plus all of their good Blue Label products. The produce is much better than I thought it would be (way better than Price Chopper). Apples are way less by the pound, green peppers and some kind of tomato also always seem to be on sale. The store also had a fairly large cheese/deli section, and all of the same dips/spreads/fresh pasta that Loblaws carries. Overall, much less hectic than most other No Frills stores - and very fast at the checkout. Good work, Peter. read more

This is where I do my weekly grocery shopping. I've been going since it was built from the ruins of a scuzzy Knob Hill. It's big and there's lot of choice. The pharmacists aren't the swiftest or friendly so I leave my prescriptions elsewhere. The dollar store in the middle is handy. Best No Frills I've been to, and definitely the best one around. I live in Parkdale, and I drive to this No Frills because of the selection as well as the lack of iffy people that you get in and around my local No Frills. Lots of fish (both live and frozen/refrigerated) available here which I love. Food always seems to be fresh, location is clean, parking lot is huge, and they even have a President's Choice bank machine in the store in case you're not up for cash-back. Peter, you peach. You run my favourite grocery store in town. Peter's No Frills on Lansdowne is a legend. Baker, butcher, candlestick maker. OK, no candlestick maker, but they have a fish monger, a pharmacy and a deli. Same diff. The best bit? They do it all at No Frills prices. This grocer is walking distance from my house, but still a little bit further than a couple of other places. If I'm doing a holiday shop, a full week's shop or just generally am feeling fancy, I hit this No Frills, and if you live west, I suggest you do, too. read more

The service shocked me. The price for a product rung up incorrectly and the staff went through hurdles to try to hide the fact that they made a mistake. I caught them red handed. You have the worst employees, who must be costing you thousands of dollars in lost revenue due to theft. I went to use the self check out, only having to wait because people with full carts were checking out. Why dont the staff who monitor the self check out refer these people to cashiers? Two of the three carts were blocking the entrance so no one could get by. To the left were two women who had four or five crates of bottled water and soft drinks. They didn't scan any of them. Probably stole about $50 worth. The couple on the right, just kept filling the plastic bags and scanning the odd items. They didn't scan cleaning products and fresh meat. They probably stole $100 worth, not to mention using 15 plastic bags; they are not only thieves but clearly dont care about the environment. Why have security or these employees there if they do nothing??? Your losses are your own stupidity. read more

I drive out of my way to come to this No Frills, it's just grand! The produce selection is more bountiful than some high end grocery stores I've been to. Albeit, the organic selection is quite sad...but I can always rely on them having things like cilantro, bok choy, and napa cabbage which is more than I can say for some places *cough* Metro *cough* and the prices can't be beat. There are also about 15 check-out lanes which is super convenient. I almost never have to wait in line on a Saturday or Sunday morning. Most cashiers are no-nonsense and never give me a problem when I try to use a coupon. And you can't forget the huge parking lot-- always a spot to park. I was in this store Friday and the customer behind me was carrying a dog,I am highly allergic to dogs,I am a loyal customer but I almost left my cart of food and left. It left me wondering if I should shop elsewhere. isn't it a health concern and btw it was not a service animal and I asked them if it was. Wow! My eyes went gaga for all the looking fresh produce in here. It was the afternoon on a Sunday, and I was impressed to see so much fresh goods here, usually they were all gone - note: all the mushrooms were gone at this time. As for all no frills, the produce is usually superfresh because they have such a high turnover. This one was no different. The place is also very clean and big, and feels like you're in a Loblaws, with all the variety, but with no frills prices. The only thing I didn't like was that there was a small amount of organic/gluten free foods. There was a small section called "health foods" that had a gluten free granola bars and cookies, but that's it. Maybe there was an organic section I missed. In the bakery section, I had a hard time finding Spelt bread (there was one, but it was expensive and only 5 slices) or plain rye bread without extra crazy ingredients. but I'll be back!! read more

This is an excellent no frills. It is VERY busy though, which can be a bit of a pain, but if you can put up with the crowds you will be rewarded. The selection of fresh seafood, offal and hard-to-find produce (counted 5 different kinds of yams and sweet potatoes today!) is amazing. THe only supermarket that comes close is TNT in downtown. As others have mentioned, the place is clean and the it isn't as cramped as a number the other no frills in my area. Someone mentioned that they don't take visa, but I think they take mastercard. read more

This No Frills is one of the best grocery stores in the city. Like the No Frills in the Dufferin Mall, they have a Fresh fish department and a great butcher counter. I was even more impressed with the selection here. I found a beautiful whole octopus that couldn't have been fresher and some amazing short ribs. The guy at the butcher counter was super friendly and we had a fun conversation about organ meat. If you're looking for off cuts of meat for fair off cut prices and not the ridiculous amounts that that trendy places charge, you'll be happy with this place. Even on a Saturday, which is the worst day ever to go grocery shopping, this store wasn't a madhouse. The aisles were all well stocked and organized. The selection is above and beyond most Loblaws stores with much better prices. Aside from convenience, I don't see a reason to shop anywhere else in the city. read more

It's no Loblaw's at Maple Leaf Gardens, however on the scale of No Frills, Peter's reigns supreme. For the past year, Paolo's No Frills on King and Jameson was my grocer. The produce was never quite right, shelves were regularly empty and the atmosphere was that of a zombie film with the occasional flickering light and Wilhelm scream. In comparison Peter's is bathed in glowing warm light accompanied by an invisible angelic choir. The selection of meats and fresh bread is varied and fresh, the staff is friendly and bright-eyed and the place bustles with an exuberance just shy of a farmer's market. There's tons of parking if you're of the vehicular persuasion, gas- and person-powered alike and is readily accessible by foot and TTC. Oh, and it's cheap!! read more

This is definitely the best No Frills that I've been to in the city. It's huge. Problems that I've had with other stores are never to be had here. They stock the produce constantly. They have a meat counter that has great prices. The store is clean. I've never noticed fruit flies. I usually can find what I'm looking for here. The stock flyer items pretty regularly so it's rare that I can't find something from it. I'm a frugal chick, so I'm always checking out the flyer deals. I'm always amazed at the difference in prices between one grocery store to the next. Rarely do I find a higher price here, so this is my first stop before I am forced to check out other grocery stores. Lots of parking. There are some small businesses but no other big name stores. Probably THE best No Frills in the city. This place carries everything - and I love that their produce section always has a little surprise for me. The other day I found Sour sop, Guava, Granadillas, tiny sugar baby Watermelons and Peruvian Mangoes. All the tropical fruit I could ever want - It made the dreary February afternoon a little brighter! Now this place isn't fancy or classy - but if what you are looking for is good selection of produce and other foodstuffs at competitive prices, then this place is definitely worth checking out. They also have a pretty decent Gluten Free section where you can find some goodies such as GF cookies, pasta,crackers and some other snacks. Oh - and there is a pretty decent dollar store attached to the place where you can find all the usual stuff sold at dollar stores. They always have sales and specials here, and I always find something I want on special when I go. I only wish I lived near this No Frills!!! read more

Best No Frills in Toronto. It also has a Dollar Store area in the middle, and an area where you can get fresh meat and seafood ( a lot of lower class chains don't have that). I love this one because you can get so much food for $60. Their salmon and chicken is always so cheap. Plus, since you're probably starving when you get there since your fridge is empty--there's a hot dog stand right outside and ample parking. Score. read more

When first typing this review, I had a hard time justifying any No Frills grocery store at 5 stars. But the reality is that this is probably one of the best grocery stores in the area, and definitely the best No Frills I've been to. Some things that make this location unique: -roomy and spacious, I don't feel like I'm fighting to get past people in the aisles -great produce selection -a dollar store type section which you can find some neat cheap buys for everything from hand towels to kitchen supplies to toys and pet supplies -a pharmacy thats actually a decent size -lots of parking -easy access to TTC (Lansdowne bus, Dundas and Carlton streetcar stops all within walking distance) I will admit to liking the bread/bakery section and the butcher at the Dufferin Mall No Frills more, but this place is still up to par on those things. My go-to grocer, especially in the winter months when I can't get fresh local produce. Peter's No Frills is kept very clean, well organized, well stocked, and the produce is routinely as fresh as the more expensive markets in the area. In fact, I've got to say that I've generally found the produce superior to the nearby Loblaws and Metro. My only criticism is that the meat department can be a bit sketchy, and they seem to go through a LOT of waste. Especially at the end of the week there's a noticeable smell of "turning" meat, and there are often large carts stacked with expiring packages. I appreciate that they're cleaning them up, but kind of feel like this should be done the night before, not the day of. Still, their selection is excellent, especially their health food and organics sections -- impressive in a discount grocer. And since I only occasionally purchase meat, it's all good! read more

Peter's No Frills is the best supermarket I know of in Toronto. It's incredibly well stocked and the staff seem reasonably happy and are helpful. Plus you can find them! It's location places it pretty much smack in the most ethnically diverse section of Toronto, and providing for this market means you can get practically Anything in terms of fresh veg, meat and seafood, and preserved and dry goods - I do get practically anything. Except I still can't find the cayenne pepper. It serves particularly well Chinese, Italian, Latino, Portuguese and South Asian cuisine, with substantial provision for plenty of other cuisines. Also thanks to the local hipster community we have plenty of organic options, especially in fresh veg and dairy - I recommend the garlic! And a lot of Ontario-grown produce when in season. I just wish they'd do sustainably fished seafood and organic meat. read more

totally rude clerk i was there Sunday afternoon the 20th approx 5:15 had to ask the clerk girl with ponytail workig in the isle where the hot sauce where i could find a particular hot sauce, she showed no interest and had to ask her several times , she didnt even remove the cart for us that was in our way until i asked her to Totally unexeptal behavior , this girl didnt have any interest in helping and totally turned around and ignored us. thought i had to mention this to the Owner Peter. this will reflect back too managment unfortuanatly and hope management cares ???? anyway if anyone who sees tthis and cares they may want to talk to this individual. unfortuanately i didnt get her name ...But as i mentioned above , if you read it and figure it out at what time and day she was working someone could figure it out..who was there at this time. One of the best No Frills in the city, and most of it due to the fact that it's huge. In the world of discount grocery chains, size does matter. Their selection is wide (they pretty much have every President's Choice item you'd expect to find at one of the Loblaw company's non-discount outlets, including Loblaws, Fortino's, Zehr's, City Independent, etc.), and everything is usually well-stocked. They have a butcher and fish counter, but sadly, no deli (I guess the last one is considered a "frill"). It does get pretty busy in there, especially on the weekends, but the wide aisles help. They are usually adequately staffed, and I never need to wait more than a few minutes at checkout. Parking lot is sufficiently large, have never had to drive around for a place to park. Their butcher counter seems to be tightly linked to a single supplier, Charlies Meats (signage is prominent everywhere). Their (Charlies Meat's) website has some interesting details about it. Hey, if outsourcing a butcher counter within a grocery store without one works, all the power to them. Let's get a deli counter deal in the works, too! read more

This review is based mostly on nonperishables. This is my favourite No Frills, and is a bit of a hike from my home. But, it has ample parking and is clean - so it is a winner for me. I do not buy any meat here (it smells like wet dog near the meat counter). If you must get your meat on, I would recommend buying meat products that are prepackaged deli meats and sausages. The wet dog smell has been noted on more than one occasion, so it was not just a one timer. What I do buy are my canned goods, cereal, pop, soap, paper towels, vinegar, etc. I have bought some fruit and veg here, but you have to be super selective. I find the quality is lacking. Although their potatoes, and overall root vegetables, are pretty reliable. I love that there is ample parking. It reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Kramer made the wide lanes. I do feel a bit of an urge to leisurely drive my car around in circles - but I hold myself back. There is a large drugstore area (they also have a drive through for prescription pick up), a 3 aisle dollar store mini-mart, a lot of frozen food, and within the same plaza - a hot dog cart and pizza place. As Luke A pointed out, I do like that they carry some great Mexican foods as I was able to pick up my corn and black bean salsa. Go for your staples, but avoid the meat counter. read more

Love this No Frills, it's my fave location! I'd rather go a little farther to this location than the one in my own neighbourhood. First of all it's huge! There is so much selection! The produce section alone is huge and every time i've been shopping there is a Produce person stocking something. There is also a little pharmacy so you can drop off/pick up your prescription while you shop. So convenient. The prices at No Frills are great too. There are always great weekly deals, but in general i find the prices here lower than most other stores. For me, a wide selection, freshness and low prices are what I value in a grocery store. This No Frills is awesome. There is also a big parking lot for people who drive. read more

Peter's No Frills is probably my favourite No Frills. Back in the day, it used to be a cheap and scummy Knob Hill Farms, now it's just cheap and cheerful. What's most impressive about this No Frills is that it has the selection to compete with much more expensive supermarkets, like Loblaws or Sobeys. They have a butcher and fresh fish, and a fair amount of stuff that's rare in supermarkets, like mexican mole. If you can't wait to get home to eat, there's a hotdog vendor by the entrance who seems to be there year-round. On the other hand, it might not be a bad idea to fill up before going in, to keep yourself from too many discount impulse buys. read more

Okay, I had been shopping at Sobeys and Metro for months because I hadn't known that Peters No Frills existed. Me and my husband went here for the first time this weekend and were completely blown away. This store is HUGE and so cheap! The produce & meat sections are unbelievable - it was a little overwhelming. We will never go anywhere else :) TIP: If you need a grocery cart BRING 25 cents ! They are locked and you need to pay for them - we did not know this going prior and had to lug around baskets (which are free) read more

This is a pretty complete grocery store, with a fresh meat and fish counter. There's also a pharmacy section, which can be convenient. The fruits and vegetables are average, but I find that they look fresher on weekends... overall, it's a good value for the price. Note that they only accept MasterCard, not VISA or Amex! So be prepared with cash or debit if you don't have a MC! There's only 2 family parking spot that are always taken, so they should probably have more so I don't roll with my stroller all the parking lot in the dirty slush with my baby! read more

Unfortunately, the price tags for these products are occasionally not where they're supposed to be making for a sometimes frustrating shopping experience. Peter's No Frills is easy to pass by located where College and Dundas meet. I've driven by it many times not realizing what a gem it is. When you're looking for a all-in-one grocery store downtown, this is the one to head to. Plenty of parking, no burb envy when you're here. And anyone who was a fan of the now closed Price Chopper located off Queen Street behind the Gladstone Hotel will be happy with this No Frills. It's a huge grocery store with everything you'd find at a Loblaws without the fancy point-of-purchase accoutrements and adornments. Just basic fluorescent lights and nice wide aisles to park your cart in. Despite the basic appearance, it is well kept and clean. And there is a indie pizza joint just outside the doors into the parking lot. I haven't tried it but you know it will be good in a market flush with za places just waiting to take your order. Next to that a dentist, wow, drugstore and walk-in clinic. That's convenience! read more

OBSESSED. Truly in love with this supermarket, and a mecca for my budget-head-deluxe self! Mother Mary the DEALS!!! If you shop smart and purchase items that are on sale you can often slash your total grocery bill in half; coming here for my bi-weekly shops is basically the highlight of my month (SO MUCH SAVINNGG). They basically have everything and then some at this location and I will always hold tight to the beautiful memory of discovering jiffy-pop here (arguably 200 times better than microwave popcorn). The produce I've bought here tends to stay fresh longer and they are always restocking everything!! They've got a pharmacy and drug mart type area with all your beauty/grooming essentials ( I once saw mouth wash on sale for 2 dollars WHAT) AND AND, they've also got a "DOLLAR SECTION" which actually has decent quality items (better than dollarama) where we bought rugged-tough extension cords and a really nice glass juice pitcher for 5 bucks! It can get quite busy on the weekends, but a number of times a cashier would open a check out line just in the nick of time and we would be ushered in first in line :D read more
