My son's 2011 VW GTi went in for repair. The diagnosis and repair estimate $5000. Claimed valves were bent and cylinder head work needed. Not one valve bent when cylinder head removed by another licensed technician. A timing chain and guide kit replacement was all that was needed. If they claim to be VW specialists then only take your 35 year old cars there. Maybe they know these best!! read more

Annoying door latch problem on my VW, which caused the alarm to go off all night. Showed up the next morning and Chadi took my car, and started looking at the problem and calling me every few hours to give me updates. Couldn't have appreciated the honestly more. VW parts are expensive no matter where, but I got quoted a very fair price for the work, and it was done the next day. He even diagnosed a couple other smaller problems and let me know how to deal with them in the future. Couldn't have been happier with the service. read more

Without going into too much detail, after visiting this shop with my vintage Beetle I was over $2000 out of pocket yet still with an improperly driving car. It went in for an electrical check-up (it was not keeping a charge) and they said there was much more wrong with it. They told me engine removal was my only option - so we went for it, begrudgingly. Got it back after some seals replaced and the carburator rebuilt, the car drove like shit. Too much fuel going in, tuning completely off, stalled out multiple times at lights. I never went back. Instead went to Scott at German Supply and after one visit, he brought my car back to life for the price of a couple hours of work. Pete's claim they have vintage Beetle mechanics - but they really aren't. They don't know the first step at tuning a classic and making sure it purrs. read more

I was given a high estimate by a dealer on a transmission pan repair. Took it to Peter's and they were very accommodating. They can quote quickly and accurately, they try to get the service done ASAP (as long as parts are in) and they communicate everything very clearly. Would definitely recommend as a friendly and affordable alternative to a VW dealer. They use OEM parts for repairs as well! read more

Competency issues Peter seems assertive and very confident. My VW Beetle was behaving strangely, and I picked him as a potential specialist. He was honestly declaring my car will run much better after his intervention. I did 3 visits, and the bills were large each time. He replaced lots of stuff. Yet, my car did not get better. Ultimately I went to another mechanic, and he easily found and fixed the problem. read more

Took my car (2001 Golf TDI) in to Peter's for a couple big things and a bunch of relatively minor things. The owner was great. Sourced some cheaper used parts for me to replace an entire system in my older car that didn't warrant brand new expensive parts. Saved me over $1,100 in parts alone. When the check engine light came back on after the first service (not unexpected given the extent of the repairs), I took it back in to have the lingering problem taken care of. They replaced a single part, didn't charge me for the labour, and the owner even called to ask for permission to drive my car home that night so he could spend some time behind the wheel to figure out if there was anything else wrong with it. Car runs great now. More power than it had when I bought it used 4 years ago. Great service, very happy. Will return. read more

Been going here for the past 3 years with a more than 10 years old VW Passat (B5.5 model). Service is good and prices are about 25-40% lower than the dealership I used to go to. These guys don't try to make as much money as they can, but only do what needs to be done to keep the car running smoothly. you could maybe find a slightly cheaper mechanic, but I find their prices to be entirely reasonable. More importantly, they're very reliable and knowledgable when it comes to our VW Passat, which is something I'm happy to pay a bit more for. One incident in particular convinced me that I could trust these guy and made me a regular customer. 3 years ago I was having a problem with the head gasket on the car, which meant that the engine was "sweating" small amounts of oil. Nothing major, just a tiny bit of oil coming out over the course of a few thousand KM's. The dealer had told us we should get it fixed and that it would cost over $900. I took it to Peter's, and they told us not to worry about it, and that they would keep an eye on it whenever we took the car in. It's now been 2 1/2 years since that advice, and the problem hasn't gotten any worse. So, that alone saved us $900+. They could easily have given me a quote and told me I needed to get it fixed, but they didn't. Needless to say we've been coming back since then. The car still runs great, and the guys at Peter's keep a look out for typical problems on our model. Last oil change they spotted a leaky CV-boot, which seems to be a common issue with the Passat we have (we've had them both replaced once already). Not a super cheap fix, but if the CV-boot isn't replaced the drive shaft will get worn out from lack of oil, and from dirt and such getting into through the cracked boot, which will cost a lot more as you'd have to replace the drive shaft itself. Good to know that they're keeping an eye on things like that, even if they're just doing an oil change. read more

Wouldn't recommend to anyone - absolutely terrible experience! Brought my car in for servicing and the mechanic repaired more than they were authorized, and tripled the number of hours necessary to complete the task. Better off taking your VW to other garages, including Amin at Salims in the Beaches. read more
