So I convinced my wife to take her truck to the dealership for an oil change and a tune up, the truck had some hesitation. They replaced 8 plugs and changed the oil, $617+/-. I told her not to fret, you get what you pay for... I drove her truck to work today, she asked me to check the brakes, she said she forgot to have the dealership look at them. Pedal all the way to the floor. I'm just a dumb construction worker and it feels like the master cylinder piston is leaking by the seal. You can pump up the brakes to stop but someone at Scott Peterson Motors of Belle Fourche let my wife drive away without saying a word. I am furious. Brandon, the service manager just gave me the old "I don't know, I didn't work on it, I've never seen this truck."bologna. I can't stand being burned. My families experience with Scott Petersen Motors in Belle Fourche, SD started in 2011. That year I purchased a new Jeep Grand Cherokee for my wife who had been driving around an old Saturn Vue. Scott Petersen bent over backwards for us by finding the exact Grand Cherokee my wife desired which happened to be located in Sioux Falls. They sent their own driver to go pick up the vehicle the next day, drive it back to their dealership, and get it ready for delivery. The following day they delivered it to our house in Rapid City and drove the Saturn back to Belle Fourche. They gave us top dollar for our trade-in and found a better financing option than the bank I have used for decades could provide. The entire experience was outstanding. Fast forward to 2017, I'm now deployed, my wife is at home with the kids and her 2015 GMC Yukon is having some issues. I try to get them resolved with GM but was provided a solution I wasn't 100% happy with. So, the first thing I told my wife was to call the Dodge dealership in Belle Fourche! While deployed, I also went to the overseas Military sales that gives service members really good deals on vehicles. I priced out the SUV we wanted and sent the info to Scott Petersen. They beat the price from Military sales and offered us a great price for our trade-in GMC, so we pulled the trigger and ordered a 2018 Durango SRT. Again, they found us a loan better than my bank as well as added some extras I asked for like tint and slush mats. All of this while I'm overseas and my wife is traveling around visiting family during the holidays! I would like to give a special thanks to Mitch from sales and Lindsey from finance for all the hard work and correspondence, you two made this process very easy for us and were always quick to respond to our many questions. Well, we are happy to finally have traded off the dump of a truck we bought from Scott Peterson Motors. My husband thinks they knew they sold us a lemon vehicle originally because of just all the problems we had, and unfortunately we checked around and our trade in value sucked due to all the problems it had. At least we are rid of that dang thing! I also bought a SUV this fall, but it WASN'T from Scott Peterson. I got mad when I even saw or heard a commercial from them even though they had the biggest selection around for what we are looking for. My husband said he didn't care if they had the best deal on the vehicle he or I was looking for. We would rather pay more to make sure it is a decent vehicle and would pay more to not work with them. Our opinions still haven't changed since the three years ago we bought that stupid Dodge! Save yourself this neverending headache and shop elsewhere. Only positive thing is we still have our salesperson's phone number and keep in touch with him because he was just a decent person, but even he left Scott Peterson's, and I don't wonder why. read more

Be very careful dealing with this place. I had spent 2 grand in the last 6 months getting my truck "fixed". The last time I picked it up I didn't even make it home before the cab filled up with smoke. I towed it back in, they said it would be 2500.00 to fix it. I bought the loaner I was driving over 20000 on it wouldn't come down a penny on price and wouldn't give me a dime on my truck. Said they were going to scrap it out. Buyer beware. I purchased a 2015 Taurus SHO from Scott Peterson Motors of Sturgis on October 5th 2019. The car only had 92k miles so I thought it would be a decent car for the price I paid for it. There were some minor issues that I had to fix because the dealer didn't, but they weren't covered by their 3 month/3000 warranty. Had the car for a little over two months and put 3738 miles on it before the PTU failed on December 13th 2019 and broke part of the transmission casing with it. Called the dealership and the manager said they couldn't do anything about it because I didn't purchase an extended warranty. They sell cars that break and don't care about it because you didn't spend enough money. I may have just been unlucky, but I definitely won't be a customer for life. read more

My son found the car he was looking for (2013 Dodge Dart) at Peterson Motors and the advertised price was $7000. We called to make sure the car was still available and then traveled an hour and a half to Belle Fourche SD. When we got there the car was just back from detail but the windshield wipers wouldn't turn off and the shop quote was just under $1000 to fix it with parts and labor. The first offer they had for us was $7000 and they would pay half of the repair bill. I said no. The next offer was $7200 and they would pay for the repair. Again, I said no. Their next offer was $7200 they pay for the repair and their shop would go over it with their multi-point check list (I had noticed that the sticker for this was already in the window), a tank of gas, and beer. My son was excited about the car and we were a least getting something of value so I agreed. The salesman went back to the manager came back and informed me that they had come down to $7000 but there would be no check list, no tank of gas, no beer, but there was an added fee of $199. Reluctantly, I agreed. Not because I was too stupid to notice the text book bait and switch they pulled, but because my son was excited about the car and had saved money from his summer job to make the down payment. I wrote them a check for $7199. Apparently that $200 was really important to Scott Peterson and he deserves it more than I do. Unfortunately, that's not the end of the story. We still needed to get the car fixed. They had to order the part and they said they would call when it came in. They never called. After two weeks I finally had to call them. When I talked to the service advisor he didn't know anything and he would have to see if the part had even come in and he would call me back when he had it figured out. He never called so I again had to call him. He informed me the part had indeed come in, but they didn't have any appointments available for the next ten days or so. I told him that if that's the case I would take it to my local dealership, get it fixed, and they'ed send them the bill. He said bring it in at 9 am on Friday. The quote from the shop had shop time at 4 hours but they didn't get it finished until 6 pm. The waiting room was very comfortable but it didn't make the wait seem any less than the 9 hours that it was. Scott Peterson Motors mantra is "We want customers for life", but that must only be for the customers that enjoy getting screwed. We won't be back. read more

I started dealing with Dan, a great salesman, on Friday. Monday we decided which vehicle was the one we wanted to drive overnight and get a good feel for. Dan was on vacation, which everyone deserves. In his absence I talked with a newer salesman, Jon, who could not answer my question about setting up this test drive. He was going to talk with the Sales Manager to find out the answer. Three hours later, tired of waiting, I called back to find out what my plans were for after work. Talking to the Sales Manager, JR, we determined it was possible, and he apologized for the busy day they were having. He said it was no excuse, and was friendly. Knowing I was going to show up at 4:30, no one was willing to help me when I arrived. Two salesmen were leaning against counters, and knew that I was trying to test drive a car. You would think they might bring it around while I waited for the 45 minutes. I finally left without seeing the car, because I felt they were not trying to gain me as A Customer For Life. I used this impression, and assumed the quality of service after purchase would be just as poor. Maybe I am just use to having someone sell me a car, instead of selling myself a car. read more
