EXTREMELY HORRIBLE SERVICE. I called them several times to make an appointment- 1 month in advance as they were fully booked out. I was told I am all set to come in on Friday 3/27 @11:15am. When I arrived I was told there's absolutely zero record of me in the system. I provided my personal information and everything they asked for. Terribly managed record keeping system. They said I am not on the system and sent me home. I took a vacation day out of work to come out here (1.5 hour of commute each way). They didn't give any shit about the effort and time to get there. I was told it was my fault. I'm surprised how shitty these people are - they did not feel bad about me at all and did not reimburse me for the travel expenses or anything and said it was all my fault. I scheduled two fittings at Pet's Golf with Sam Kim at the Lab 18 Fitting Studio. The Lab 18 facility and the people working there were awesome! They were very nice, accommodating and it is a state-of-the-art facility. I worked with Sam on an Iron and Driver Fitting (two separate days). From beginning to end it was a great experience. Sam took the time to understand my goals, what I was looking for from the fitting and from the new clubs. Sam was patient with me, listened to my feedback and didn't waste time of clubs that I didn't like or that were just not the right fit for me. I learned A LOT about my swing and how I deliver the club during my fitting. It was far from a lesson however it was an amazing learning experience that I was not expecting. Most importantly, I truly appreciated Sam's straight to the point recommendations. I understand feel is a huge part of choosing the right clubs, but I was there to get professional advice and Sam delivered just that. Based on the data we collected throughout the fitting, the feedback I was giving same and the shot results, Sam was clearly able to identify the best shaft and clubhead combo that fit my game. I also want to mention that fitters sometime receive negative feedback because clients fell like the fitter "pushed upgrades" or more expensive equipment. This could not be further from the truth in my experience. Especially when it came down to the driver. After identifying which head worked best for me, I wanted to try all of the shafts, especially the Upgrade after-market shaft that have the cool look and potentially better performance. Sam put together a few options and when comparing the more expensive after-market shaft to the stock shaft I was hitting originally, Sam clearly pointed out and explained why, even though the after-market shaft looks nicer with the bright colors, I was hitting the stock shaft better. Bottom line, I went to Pete's to get fit by a professional and that is exactly what I got. I highly recommend Pete's golf and Sam Kim. Wedge fitting by Sonny. Happy with my experience - there were able to squeeze me in on short notice and set up my sand and gap wedges with correct loft lie bounce shaft swingweight etc. Tried a few different wedges and a slightly lighter shaft and the entire process took 40 minutes. Started with Titleist BV SM8 then some Taylormade and finally Callaway. Ultimately ordered custom SM8 more geared forwards my swing and data from the ball monitor. Previously, I had club fitting with Ping (full set) and Driver fitting (Titleist) - both done elsewhere. read more

Back in the early 1990's there was such a influx of golf specific retail stores. From NYC to eastern Long Island, I went to every last one always on the hunt for a sale a closeout, mainly for clubs sometimes for clothes. Most all have closed their doors and I do not have true sense of why this mass exodus and consolidation occurred. Now the options are limited and extreme in terms of where a golfer can go to gear up. Pete's is a great shop for the beginner and the skilled golfer. Their custom fitting is worth every cent as buying off the rack is not the way to go. Swing speed, launch angle all matter as it relates to your time on the course. Having every advantage by embracing technology won't hurt your game, only help it. Pete's shop has done so much custom fitting for me, I've referred countless people to him. I signed up for a comprehensive irons fitting and a comprehensive woods fitting. Pete talked about himself 90% of the time. As a result, I tested 3 club heads and 2 shafts for irons over 2 HOURS! The woods fitting DID NOT HAPPEN. And yet, I got charged 300 dollars for BOTH sessions against my protest. I tried to give them a chance to make it right by rescheduling with a different fitter but they refused. EXTREMELY dishonest. Steer clear of Pete! read more

I have had 2 club fittings and one Putter fitting over the past 30 years at Pete's. Recently came to Pete for a new Driver fitting. Once again - what a great experience! The digital analytics and technology were amazing. But Pete doesn't rely entirely on what the computer tells him. He has done tens of thousands of fittings over his 40 years in business. Before he ever turned on the computer, he did a Q&A about my game, my Index, my height/weight, my health and my current equipment. Then he watched me hit a few. Finally he went to the Launch Monitor, and began to dig into the numbers. He explained precisely what he was seeing on screen and how those numbers affected my ball flight. I left with a new Titleist TSR2 driver that replaced my previous Titleist model. Since I keep an identical set of clubs at my upstate course, Pete then suggested matching shafts in the prior Titleist driver with what I will now be hitting with the new Titleist. Brilliant! It's been nearly a month now with the new equipment. Honestly - I rarely miss a fairway, and driver distance is impressive. I love this place. I've done both an iron fitting and a wedge fitting with them and both were great experiences. In fact, I first did a wedge fitting because it was cheap and seemed like a nice way to dip my toes in the fitted-club water, but when he learned that I was also planning to get new irons, I should table the new wedges for the following season so they could properly gap my wedges and my new irons. They took my wedge info and stored it in the computer. The iron fitting was great and I loved my new irons. This season I went back to do wedges again, and they didn't charge me for the fitting considering I had done it a year prior, and they were able to bring up my old info to see if it still agreed with my swing as it stood today. They were even able to make my wedges that day, and I walked out with two new clubs. I was with Sonny for all fittings and he was great. I would highly recommend him. read more

As a less than intermediate golfer, I needed some guidance to understanding what I needed to do to improve my game. From a suggestion from a friend and instructor, I decided to go to Pete's Golf shop for a novice fitting with anticipation to purchase fitted clubs. I met with Sonny and we went to the simulator in the back room. After a discussion of my intentions and looked over my old clubs, he analyzed my swings in the simulator. After a few swings, he fitted a new club for me and there was some improvement as expected. Not even after 10 minutes of talking and swinging, he outlined a set for me of what he'd recommend I purchase with the store. Being that I only swung for 10 minutes, I was concerned with how quickly he suggested a set of irons to me. I was also concerned with his suggestion of a stiff and heavy set as it didn't feel easy to swing compared to my current set. I asked if I could try out other brands but was fully ignored. He exclaimed on how PINGs was the only realistic choice for me and left it as that. With my lack of experience of the sport, I politely agreed to his analysis and followed him out of the store. I wanted to feel like his suggestion was proper, but he left me with little confidence as he pushed me out the door for his next client. Emails with him after the meeting for more advice was left with simple statements and further suggestion to pick up his suggested clubs. After getting a 2nd fitting at another store, it's clear to me that the Pete's Golf Shop was only interested in selling me clubs. The 2nd place was honest, gave a mini-lesson on how to improve my swing, recommended a very different set of clubs that felt easier to swing, and overall suggested not to get new clubs until my swing was more consistent. I did not feel Sonny hinted at any of my struggles and gave little suggestion beyond buying new clubs. Their experience might be more seasoned to better players, but I won't ever know. I will not be returning to this pro shop. Beginners will better benefit with the multiple (cheaper!) fitters in the Mineola/Westbury area. read more

I did a driver fitting at the golf and body location in nyc with Rob. Rob is super positive and has great energy. If you are considering doing a fitting at this location make sure to do with Rob!! Explained what he was doing And did not seem to be in a rush to finish the fitting or anything like that even when I went back and forth between the two drivers I wanted. Pete, the fitters and counter staff are great. Nothing but good things to say about them. BUT....... Stay away from Kirk "the pro", he does NOT listen, gives terrible lessons, where he is also sarcastic and condescending. It was a waste of One hour lesson, and a disappointing waste of money as he did NOT give any tips. He answers your questions with questions. I really had to keep my cool as I am a strong male that despises sarcasm. I told him I am a 18 handicap and have trouble hitting the center of the iron. And after telling him some models irons I was interested in (game improvement or cavity back). I assumed that he listened and he was giving me a heel and toe weighted irons for forgiveness, but He brought in a players iron that that has a hollow body with a single tungsten weight in the dead center, this made the irons basically - muscle back irons. I hit a few shots (Not enough to get a real feel for it), and had some good and bad shots, thinking it was me being nervous, I bought them. After playing a few weeks and having a hard time hitting consistent distances, I checked out the club online and saw that he sold me a "players Iron". I'm furious as my handicap went up 4 strokes in my mens league over the next 20 games. And still steaming I wasted $1,100 on irons I can't hit and need to replace them with a set of "game improvements" that I initially requested. My recommendation is: Make an appointment with Pete or any of the others at Pete's, but stay as far away from Kirk as you can. read more

I initially went to Pete's Golf in Mineola to have a swing/club assessment because I am getting older (63) and have improved my handicap substantially since retiring in May of '18. While I believe it's the operator and not necessarily the tool to effectuate improvement, I also realized it had been awhile since I had "new" equipment and if it could be revealed post-assessment that "new" equipment would help me achieve my goals, then I would consider new equipment. Working with Pete we found that my driver would be better one full inch shorter and that my irons one inch longer. Pete was thorough; knowledgeable; helpful and observant. Given the opportunity to "borrow" a 7 iron to check out the Ping G410 irons I took it to Sunken Meadow for my scheduled tee time the next day following the scheduled swing assessment. On the 3rd hole of the Blue course; Par 3, 150 yard slightly uphill; I used the 7 iron. The strike was absolutely beautiful; the feedback; and flight of the ball was unprecedented (for me). The shot flew the green. I didn't care. I chipped on and scored par for the hole. But more importantly I was trying to find excuses to hit my 7 iron for the rest of the round not only for the "normal" 7 iron shots for me; but for any reason at all. Yes, I'm gushing. The energy that was transferred from clubhead to ball was amazing. I've had to dial it back a little bit to familiarize myself with outcomes to shots. These irons are great. The Driver has resulted with long powerful drives that I couldn't achieve with my TaylorMade RocketBallz driver. The Hybrid has been ideal for my long elevated green approaches. I purchased the Ping G410 Driver; Ping 4-22Degree hybrid; 5 through U wedge Ping G410 irons; Ping Glide 3.0 Sand wedge. My handicap is 13.7 down from 16.7 earlier this year. There was no sales pressure here. I went in looking for answers about where I stood "technically" with my sticks. At 63, how likely am I going to purchase yet another full set of clubs? Yes, I'm retired. I'm not reckless with money. But I enjoy golf immensely and this purchase was well worth the assessment and subsequent golf purchase. In another observation, the staff at Pete's Golf was all very helpful. I will be returning for further tweaking if necessary and if you're considering a golf shop to seek out wisdom - see Pete at Pete's Golf in Mineola. Worked with Pete for my iron fitting. His insight into explaining the analytics from the data was easy to understand. Each change of club head or shaft brought positive results with my shot making. No pressure at all. The data was right there in front of me, showing straighter longer shots at the end of the hour. We discussed booking another fitting down the road for my woods, but he was leading me to stay with what I have based on the results that I've been getting with them on the course. No pressure at all to make any purchase. With that being said I gladly gave him a deposit and pulled the trigger on a beautiful set of Taylor Made M6 irons along with wedges. The fitter was very knowledgeable about diagnosing the proposing the proper shaft stiffness to accommodate a very high swing speed. However, once it came to purchase, delivery and a club that broke down in less that 3 weeks, the customer service left a lot to be desired. read more

I just did a wood fitting with Pete Makowski in Long Island and it wasn't a very good experience and not worth the cost. He was very friendly but he just didn't serve me well. - He called me up at 2:10pm (10 mins behind schedule) because he went 10 mins over his last fitting. - Before we started I told Pete that I haven't started my season because of back injury so he can expect that I'd be very inconsistent. He said it should be fine as we can focus on just the good shots. Also told him upfront that I'm looking to get Taylormade M3/M4, but it'll be from somewhere else as I have a discount I can use. - After hitting a mix of fades, slices, bad shots, and a few straight shots, he suggested that I should just stick with my current driver. Based on the measurements he took before we started, he suggested to cut it down 3/4 inch and replace the grip with a smaller one (together should change the swing weight from the original D6 measurement). I agreed so he stepped away for about 10 mins to do the repair. - Then we did a number of test shots again with my shortened driver and I was now hitting some straights, draws and also a few hooks. 25 mins after we started, which included the 10 mins it took him to repair the club, he was just basically telling me to not buy a new one and give my driver another chance. Note that at this point I've only hit my own driver. - At this point I wasn't very happy but I kept a polite face and showed no displeasure. But I paid for an hour of fitting so I asked to try an M4 or M3. He was hesitant but he got one. He brought back an M4 that had a stiff shaft, with a slightly longer shaft (the shortest shaft he could find) than my shortened club. It was a combo he could find but not the combo that he thought was the best for my swing. After a few swings he was back again at convincing me to keep my driver. - He also suggested me a certain shaft profile in case I go ahead and buy a new driver, without me ever testing/hitting that specific shaft. - Without seeing me hit my 3W and hybrid, he also offered to cut them down and replace the grip, which I still agreed with as it made sense. He again went away for another 10 mins to repair the clubs. - Before 2:50pm, or less than 40 mins since we started, with about 20 mins of those he spent away repairing my club, we were done with what was supposed to be an hour of club fitting and I ended up with extra charges for the new grips and club repairs. I understand it might not have been the best time for me to do the fitting since I haven't played this season but at the same time I was expecting to be able to try different combos of shafts and heads (or M3 and M4 at the minimum) and get suggestions on what shaft/head combo to get based on swing data. I already have an appointment with Kirk for a swing analysis in June but don't think I'd like to go back there so I'll be cancelling that. Also planned to do iron fitting later but that is also not happening anymore. read more

Came in with one of my favorite drivers (which is a few years old and in need of repair) had problems with sleeve/hosel area. I was quoted $50 at a chain golf store, Petes took care of it for $5 dollars. They let me know the $50 piece would eventually break too because the driver is structurally damaged. Hoping to get fitted soon when I have time. This place is the real deal, don't bother with the chain stores. Update: had a driver and iron fitting, very thorough. Woody is VERY knowledgeable and was able to get me woods that work very very well for me. Still waiting on the irons but I'm sure it'll be more of the same (perfectly fitted golf clubs). I scheduled a woods fitting with Pete. He checked my clubs, driver, 3 wood and hybrid . He checked my swing with the launch monitor and determined my grips were too small and my clubs too short. He " tuned " them up and now they feel completely different (in a good way). He could have sold me new clubs, but he was honest and said I just needed an adjustment. Wonderful experience at Pete's. He is knowledgeable on all aspects of club fitting and really teaches you about what metrics to look at and how to personalize the experience. It is different than the experiences at Golfsmith hitting into a screen. Pete tests the shaft, launch angles of the irons or woods and really shows you the optimal club that will get you hitting straighter and longer. You can also customize your irons as I decided to go with the 3-4 iron in one model and the 5-PW in another model. HIghly recommended to anyone that is buying clubs. When you are planning to spend $800-$1,000 for a purchase that should last 3-4 years at a minimum, then you might as well spend an additional 10% to have it personalized to your swing mechanics.
