So few make authentic Paczki and driving to Hamtramck isn't convenient. Pete's is making them as close to actual Paczki as possible. When Farmer Jack's was still around, theirs was as good as the ones made in the Hamtramck bakeries. It's been years since moving away and Farmer Jack's being gone, we had to settle on the overpriced, regular doughnuts being passed off as the real deal. So glad we found Pete's, haven't been disappointed yet. One day I'll go there and they will have the pecan rolls there. Last place I had them was at a bakery in Inkster. They moved to another location, just like many other businesses there. We did try the paczki from Srodek's on Mound Rd. Big disappointment, dry, very little filling. Get there early if you want their fried cake donuts because they go fast. I used to get them (ordered ahead) for work and most of my coworkers said to buy just the fried cakes and skip the fancy ones. The fried cake donuts are crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. For a real treat get them when they are warm. I just got my mouth watering but now I have to wait until Monday. read more

I love this place but was conflicted about sharing, since it's Waterford's best kept secret. Their donuts are simply the best, hands down. Not in a trendy, flashy way - no bacon butterscotch triple decker donuts here!! Just crispy classic donuts done to the highest standard. You see this donut in my picture? I found Pete's on Yelp after trying to go to Avon Donuts (my absolute favorite ever) but finding they were out of doughnuts before 10:00 on a Saturday morning. First, it's hard to find; it's right off of Dixie highway, but it's on an unassuming little street leading to a neighborhood. I went during the pandemic, so they were doing an excellent job of staying safe and only allowing one customer in at a time. It was also a beautiful day, so customers gathered in a safe circle and talked while waiting their turn. Pete's seemed to have a good variety of doughnuts. The main problem, though, is that they had absolutely NO SIGNAGE whatsoever to indicate what they offered, and I didn't want to get too close to the young woman behind the counter. I kept trying to ask her what they had, but she was obviously tired or stressed out or something because she wasn't very helpful -- nice, but not very good at the "selling" part. Because of this, I might very well have missed out on some good choices. I did get a dozen. I was disappointed with the peanut doughnuts; that's one of my favorites. The kind I like have only enough sugar to hold the peanuts on, and the whole doughnut is covered with nuts. These had frosting and nuts just on the top. The doughnuts are ok, but their overall flavor is just sweet. I prefer doughnuts with less sweet and more flavor. These are not bad -- and certainly MUCH better than chain places' doughnuts -- but they are not my favorite. read more

I found out about Pete's on Yelp after trying to find an after-brunch spot in Waterford and it looked like Pete's was highly recommended so I decided to take a look. Pete's is on the road behind Ollie's, you can't miss it once you turn down the road. We got a couple of donuts and cinnamon rolls (four in total) and it only came out to be about $3. Everything is so inexpensive here and it's great! The cinnamon rolls are glorified Krispy Kremes with yummy maple and peanut butter icing on top. The donuts are thick cake donuts with plenty of options to choose from. Definitely hit Pete's up for a cheap treat when you're in the area. read more

The customer service here is not the friendliest, but the donuts and pastries more than make up for what they lack in kindness! My husband, son, and I came for a visit on a Saturday morning. There was one woman working behind the counter and she was talking with a man. The woman seemed bothered that we interrupted their conversation. My son (one year old) told the woman "hi" a few times (he just learned the word) and she couldn't be bothered to say "hi" back to him or to even pay him any attention. We ordered just three donuts, but I had intentions of getting more when we went in. I was a bit miffed at how bothered the woman was by us intruding on her conversation and decided it best to just leave with the three donuts. I wish I hadn't because they were good! Next time I'll be sure to order more, even if the same woman is there! read more

BEST PIE I'VE EVER HAD! I ordered the Dutch Apple with a crumb topping, only $13. I ordered it a couple days ahead of time for easy pick up. Definitely homemade goodness, cinnamon deliciousness. Pete's Oven had amazing donuts...in 2000. I recently moved back to the area and stopped in for a donut. Granted, I'm sure the same people aren't working there now, but i expected the donuts to be the same. What a disappointment! These donuts were DISGUSTING! They had a bad flavor, tasted stale, and their frosting is gross. Additionally, this place is badly in need of repair and updates. It looks exactly as it did 40 years ago, only the worse for wear. Don't plan on returning. My dad got there before 7 am, the selection was absolute crap for donuts, didn't even have any filled kinds, and the few kinds we were able to get were poor quality. Pete's is a true gem. When you walk in, it feels like you've gone back to an earlier Waterford, back when Drayton Plains was a place and the Post Office wasn't in a strip mall. Back when you got your hardware from Elden's, your drinks at Victors, and your prescription filled at Pine Knob pharmacy. If the old-school barber shop next door didn't give you a good enough hint, the wood paneling, no-frills decor and pot of black coffee sitting on the burner in the corner will all tell you one thing: this ain't Tim Hortons. You're not going to get some crappy sugar-packed assembly-line pastries here. Just incredible, old fashioned, hand-made donuts and the best damn cup of black coffee you can get in Waterford. It's great to know that in an era in which the mom and pops have to work harder than ever to stand a chance against the big corporations, Pete's hangs in there just fine. I hope that someday, when I have kids of my own, I'll be able to show them where I grew up and, if we're lucky, we can stop in at Pete's for a donut or two (I'm partial to the fritters, myself). read more

Ummm wow. I visited here for the first time around 11:30am and the donut selection was justifiably picked over. I settled on a classic cake glazed donut and a chocolate cake glazed donut. It turns out I was far from settling - I didn't realize it was possible for such a basic donut to be so good. Extremely fresh. Crispy on the outside and moist in the best way on the inside. I used to come here back when I was a really little kid, and their donuts taste just like how I remember them. You have to get here pretty early in the day if you want any kind of selection to be left. I remember when I was young I used to ask my mom to buy those decorated cookies with the icing and designs on them -- they still are basically the same, though I heard they changed owners soMe time ago. I bought a couple of donuts and some bread-end rolls while I was here. Unfortunately the bread-end rolls seemed a little dry and stale. I'm hoping this was just because they were made the day before. Will have to come back earlier in the day next time to see if the fresher selection is as good as I remember from my childhood. It was a real stroll down memory lane to ~45 years ago, since it hasn't really changed inside since then. And that's not a bad thing. I tried to order a birthday cake for my daughter's 50th birthday. I called and was told to order by Wednesday for a Saturday order. I drove 35 miles to order the cake on Monday. I went in to order in person because I wanted to see what specialty cakes they might suggest. After I chose the cake, she asked when I wanted it and I said on Saturday. She said, oh we can't do it for Saturday we are too busy. It certainly would have been nice to have known that before I drove there. Never doing business there again. read more
