I called to find out my broker had been changed. (ok it would have been nice to know, but whatever right?) It wasnt a great experiance. Between the insurance company trying to jerk me around and my new broker having a I could care less attitude I felt very abandoned to figure out everything on my own. After that I swore when I got a new vehicle I would not be with the same insurance, but that I was gonna stick to my broker.
I bought a new car, and (because I dont live in Medicine Hat anymore) gave them a call and left a message with my broker that I needed to change my insurance. No return call, (I waited a week, and every time I called I was directed to leave another voice mail message) so I decided that was enough, why am I payin for a broker who will not get back to me.
I changed my broker to one in my city, and proceeded to call my Broker at Cowan to cancel my insurance... now this gets frusterating and messy.
Thursday - Phoned my broker, who returned my call 5 hours later, when I was busy, so I returned the call and was prompted to leave another message.
Friday - At noon, again called and left a message with my broker (as I had not recieved a call back since the second message I left). 3 hours later I got a call back, and explained that I needed to cancel my policys (home and auto). I was told I would be getting an email with a document to sign and that it was on the way.
Monday - At 2pm I still had not recieved the email documents to sign so I called, this time I was actually able to talk to my broker without leaving a message and I was told my email wasnt entered correctly and that it was being resent as we talked. At 4:58 I recieved the email with the documents which I signed and sent back.
Tuesday - I had not heard that my email was recieved, or that my insurance was going to be cancelled, so Tuesday night I sent a second email asking for confrimation the email was recieved and my policy would be cancelled.
Wednesday - I STILL had not heard, so wednesday night I send ANOTHER email asking for confirmation my email had been recieved and my policy was cancelled.
Thursday - I STILL had not heard. I called the office and explained my situation with having my broker get back to me. The receptionist was snappy and told me I could leave a message, which I did (and I wont lie it wasnt a perticularily polite message). I didnt get a phone call, I didnt get an email nothing. So in utter despiration I asked my dad (who lives in Medicine Hat) if he could stop in and find out whats going on and why no one will get back to me. My broker proceeded to LIE to my dad, telling him we had been talking via email and everything was resolved, and that my policy was cancelled on Friday (again I had not heard ANYTHING since the email with the document on Monday). My dad let me know that he stopped in and everything was all good, and of corse I told him no I havent gotten a email, I havent been talking to my broker, I have no heard anything. Now Im kinda really pissed (and now my dad is to, how dare you lie) I was just getting out of a course and planned to call when I arrived home and demand an explanation. On the way home I recieved a email, and seconds later a phone call from my broker. My dad called, to call my broker out on his lie and that is what FINALLY prompted a return email, and call. The explanation I was FINALLY given as cancellations are mailed out, and that it was cancelled Monday (why different then my dad was told, which was Friday? Likely because we were both lied to and given the run around, because Friday I had not yet signed any cancellation documents.
PLEASE think twice before going here, unless you are ALWAYS able to go IN to the office, you will likely end up left hanging with no returned calls or emails.
